We stayed at the Shambala for 5 days. The staff was very helpful and assisted us whenever we needed help. Rooms were cleaned daily! We ate many meals here( breakfast daily) and felt food was safe for an American stomach. Very respectful staff, always bowed with a Namaste every time we encountered them! Yes we recommend!!

We stayed here for almost two weeks. I have an allergy to Gluten and the chefs went out of their way to make me special food for the entire trip. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel like this was our second home. We will be going back and staying at Hotel Shambala! Thank you so much to everyone. We have travelled all over the world, and have never felt so welcome and taken care of. The staff was fabulous. Our room was always cleaned, and when we needed anything, it was there. Thank you for the amazing experience!

The staff was friendly, helpful. My wife and I caught a cold and the hotel staff called a doctor, and when the prescription order was received, went and bought the medicines and brought them to our room, and continuously checked up on us. The hotel restaurant had a good selection on its menu of local and western foods, all tasty. The buffet breakfast was superb

Fabulous rooftop terrace/infinity pool to relax after sightseeing/hiking. Staff were all very friendly and helpful - when I needed to leave at 6am for an early flight, they not only booked me a taxi using an app with local discount applied, but also opened the entire hot and cold breakfast buffet an hour early, just for me. Amazing service

Solid property. Good value for money. I didn’t have a chance to try out the spa. Breakfast was very respectable with a nice omelet station and plenty of fruit and options. Rooftop bar had a nice pianist one night and the view of the mountains is gorgeous. You need a sweater up there and the water is freezing so you won’t be lingering. Location: about 35 min from airport and reasonable to go seeing local attractions like Boudanath and others. Overall pleased with it.

We had the pleasure of staying one night at Hotel Shambula. After a very long and stressful journey to Nepal we arrived at noon and checked in. But unfortunately, our airline misplaced our baggage so we had a long day of waiting ahead of us. The hotel staff were so incredibly helpful and supportive from the beginning, checking with the airport for us on the status of where are bags were and what not. The hotel operations manager himself even escorted/drove us back to the airport to collect our bags when they finally arrived in Nepal late in the evening!

The hotel itself was lovely, clean and had beautiful decor. The overall vibe really helped calm us in our hours of feeling very unsettled, given our situation that we were in all day. The roof bar and pool had absolutely amazing views and had a great selection of drinks and some nice things to eat and the restaurant downstairs had a good selection of local and international dishes to cater to all tastes with a lovely outside terrace, full of beautiful flowers to sit in and have drinks after dinner. We have a few more days back in Katmandu in a week or so, and hope to stay again!

We really can’t thank you enough for your smiles and kindness. Highly recommend staying here!

The hotel could not have been more welcoming. From manager to desk staff, restaurant staff to cleaners this hotel had the most efficient and friendly staff I have ever encountered. Superb facilities including a lovely roof top swimming pool. Food was delicious and location very good. Highly recommended.

This was my first visit to Nepal & Kathmandu. After traveling over 38-hrs from the United States & being solo, this was the perfect hotel for me to arrive at, relax & have a meal on the rooftop & get a massage. It was my home base for my first 3 nts in Nepal until my other American colleagues arrived & we all traveled together to different cities. I loved this hotel & would be highly likely I will stay there again upon arrival to this city on my next trip to Kathmandu, Nepal. Thank you!

Nice & comfortable boutique hotel for a great price. Down the street from US Embassy and embassy district. They provide a free shuttle to Thamel but you need to book a day in advance. We were disappointed that they didn't tell us we had to book ahead so we didn't actually get to take advantage of this. Read the fine print!!!! Restaurant served decent food. Breakfast buffet is just OK, nothing special. But lunch & dinner options were good. The infinity pool is indeed spectacular especially on a clear day. They do not provide free airport pickup. A regular Taxi ride to/from airport is about $6.

This is a great place to stay in Kathmandu. It is clean and comfortable, the staff is very friendly and helpful, and the dinner was exceptional. We will be staying here on our return to Kathmandu before our international flight out.

Hotel Shambala is an oasis as a traveller. It’s too far to the Thamel market place but it has everything one needs to an infusion of comfort between adventures.

AND most impressively, when i departed I paid and unbeknownst to me i left my credit card behind. Gave my new address to the lobby assistant and called a cab. Was settling into my new hotel when someone knocked on my door:

THE MAN FROM THE LOBBY HAD DELIVERED MY CREDIT CARD TO MY NEW HOTEL. I was so impressed, surprised, and thankful!

This was my second trip to Nepal and had such a nice stay at the hotel my last visit that I returned. The entire staff are so nice and hospitable! Binita (at the concierge) is absolutely wonderful; she went above and beyond to make sure that I was taken care of and happy. I had come back to KTM earlier than expected (I trekked EBC) and did not have a set reservation at the hotel for those nights--Binita swiftly helped sort everything out! I can not recommend Hotel Shambala enough!

We had dinner in the dining room with friends. The food was fine and the liquor was a little pricey. They had a wonderful breakfast there. The rooms are extremely comfortable. I was thrilled with the bed! We all loved it and we occupied two rooms for four people.

We had an amazing time at Shambala. The room was very comfortable and clean and we had everything we needed. The staff was extremely friendly and did everything they could to make things perfect for us. The pool area is nice, but it's a little small and not many seats. However, it didn't bother us too much as it was a little too cold to swim anyway.
Breakfast was very good and a great variety.

The only downside was the location for us. It is about a 15 minute drive to get to Thamel and its away from most sites as well. We managed to take a local bus to safe some money, but involves a bit more time and walking. If you don't care spending a bit extra on taxis, the location is still great.

We visited Kathmandu with our 3 children and stayed at Shambala for 5 days (taking day trips). The staff were extremely courteous, kind and helpful. They advised me on all the can’t-miss places and they were spot on. Rooms weren’t huge, but clean, comfortable with good showers and excellent internet.The Asian portion of menu was good and breakfast was perfect. Highly recommend.

Hotel Shambala was a really lovely place to stay and their service was amazing. We visited Kathmandu for just a few days and felt very cared for here. One thing to note is that it was a little ways away from Thamel or city center but acquiring a taxi into the area was rather easy.

Overall, Hotel Shambala is a nice hotel with a roof top infinity pool. Staff was polite and pleasing. Room was clean and as pictured. For American Tourists, this hotel is located in close proximity to the American Embassy.

I have only 2 concerns with this hotel.

1. My room door didn't close with ease and needed extra effort to close. I came back to my room after a days outing and although the door appeared closed, I was able to gently push the door open. Essentially the latch didn't release into the door jam.

2. When arranging my transport to the airport, I was informed there was a $20 cost. I showed them my paperwork that transport was included and they agreed. So beware of your hotel plans and bring documentation with you.

Home away from home

Loved Shambala. They saved me while volunteering in Nepal for three weeks. Kathmandu is really a dirty dusty place where it's nice to come back to a nice place like this. Shambala had excellent service, lovely staff, very helpful, comfy bed, consistent WIFI which is a plus in Nepal, nice bar upstairs, decent restaurant. They helped me with travel when i had my days off and they helped negotiate taxis for me too when i didn't feel like it. If i had a complaint it's just that I got so sick of the buffet breakfast after a while. It's always the same and a lot of it is not that hot. But that would be the only complaint. This place is not that close to the main tourist district if that is what you're looking for. For me the location was perfect but it's by far a perfect location. it's just off the main ring road though.

Hotel Shambala is a lovely, comfortable hotel. The staff are friendly and attentive. There is a restaurant and a spa in the lobby. The eighth floor has a small, but nice, infinity pool and a poolside cafe. The rooms are very nice. The only disadvantage to this hotel in my opinion is the location - far from the center of town and the Thamel area. It is close to the American embassy.

We loved this hotel!

After returning from a 10 day Mount Everest base camp trek this hotel was like heaven! The spa was excellent (we had the \"Trekkers paradise\", which was inexpensive and wonderful). The food and the rooftop pool was terrific as well. The hotel is a little outside of the center of the city so be ready to take cabs (which are very inexpensive) to any attractions you want to visit.
