It feels like the hotel has slipped past its best days. Most of the staff were very young, the sort of first job atmosphere you notice straight away. There were a few experienced people trying to steady things, but it was clear they need more investment in training and a few more seasoned hands, especially at the bar. The cocktail list is long, and the team behind it were clearly overworked and not confident enough to handle the pace or the volume.

If you are on a golf trip, you will probably be fine. For couples looking for a more polished experience, it misses the mark.

The part that really took the shine off our stay was the spa. We emailed ahead to ask if our booking included any treatments and they replied that it did. We later learned this was their mistake, which they admitted, yet they still tried to charge us. What made it worse was the language used by the spa manager, saying things like “both sides to blame” and “I would pay it if it were me” even after acknowledging the error. It felt manipulative and unfair.

The spa itself was lovely, which makes it all the more disappointing. The way the situation was handled ended up overshadowing what should have been a relaxing stay.

Beautiful building. Spa and thermal suite was lovely .gym well equipped, great that you can use all after check out. Reception and breakfast staff were amazing but let down on Bar staff and some staff in Cedars restaurant. Waiting about 30 mins to get serviced a drink, if you go up to the drink you're totally ignored. Many people at other tables had the same experience. Restaurant staff and Bar staff very slow, Service was a little chaotic.Rooms are very spacious and comfortable. Food was nice with very tasty Desserts. Breakfast is self service with lots of options with some made to order items.

Have been here several times now and always find the hotel and facilities to be excellent. This time we were staying in an accessible room and I found the bed to be very firm. Pillows also firm. Uncomfortable two nights sleep. Pillows would need to be renewed and a nice pillow - top mattress topper would would be ideal. For an accessible room, comfort is a priority. There also needs to be a low towel rail fitted in the bathroom. Will not put me off going back to the property as everything else is excellent. Would recommend for a quiet break away.

Delighted we were given a complimentary room upgrade at check-in. All the staff we encountered were exceptional including check-in & out ,bars ,breakfast room & Cedars Steakhouse. George the groundsman was super friendly and gave advice on the walks & estate facilities.
Food in Cedars was exceptional and breakfast was first class.
Our daughter & son-in-law were so impressed by what we told them they have booked 2 nts in Farnham later in October also.

cons first- For the price you pay for somewhere as beautiful as Farnham you expect upkeep to be better. The spa looks a little run down. Big scrapes on the wall. Bare nails and hooks. It was also really cold. We weren’t the only couple with this complaint. Everyone was lying with dressing gowns and towels wrapped around them. The cedar restaurant was also too cold. I don’t like the heat at all but when you’re wearing a full coat for dinner maybe it’s time to turn the heating on. We spent nearly €200 on dinner and left asap to go warm up.

Now the pros- the staff are so lovely. Breakfast is delicious. Actually all of our food was yummy. Despite it being cold the cedar restaurants food was ridiculously good. That steak was unreal.
Everywhere was lovely and clean. You know when the toilets are nice and clean you have nothing to worry about.
We booked a massage and it was really relaxing. The gardens are just a treat.
The amenities in the room was really great. Bed was so comfortable. The girls who cleaned the rooms done a great job. They worked so hard and were lovely.

Lovely one night trip, used the spa which was quite busy but we were still able to spend a few hours there. Particularly loved the amethyst salt bath, I could have sat in there for hours. Had a casual meal in the bar which was really nice, and the service was great. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast really nice as well, lots of options and again lovely service. One slight gripe was that the bedroom was very warm and didn’t have air con, I believe they are introducing this to the hotel bit by bit, but with the recent heatwave weather the room felt pretty warm.

This is our second time staying at Farnham Estate. We pick this hotel to celebrate our wedding anniversary, even thou we book standard king room it was massive and first class. We booked the Cedar Steakhouse for our meal and it was delicious. I also ask hotel to organise flowers for my wife and they did an excellent job. They left chocolates and card on room. Breakfast in this hotel , very good choices and huge selection and was delicious. Staff were very helpful.

Great location but a mixed experience

We had a mixed time at the Farnham . Room was great . Hotel was lovely . Staff were mostly great . Food was fantastic . But Spa was very busy on both days . Also on the afternoon it was difficult to get table for food / coffee . We were left for over an hour on second day as waitress twice forgot to put our drinks order through and other people around us were getting served so much quicker and also the waitress totally forgot to put our food order through having to ask twice but after one hour and minutes we had to tell the person to cancel our order as order hadn’t been put through this was very disappointing as we were not eating again until later that evening and had to arrange to have dinner a lot earlier than we wanted too because of the afternoon incident . Would like to visit again on maybe a quieter time ..

Just back from our 2nd stay at Farnham for anniversary/birthday celebrations. Amazing as ways!

Staff are so nice and nothing is too much trouble. Food in Cedar, Maxwells & the bar was great and their is always multiple vegetarian options.

Hotel & grounds are spotless, staff always smiling!

The spa is great for the price and there is a decent enough gym. Our favourite place and we look forward to our next visit!

Farnham 50th birthday stay

Entered building and reception are was full with wedding guests taking photos , we had to battle are way through to get to desk. A few simple bollards with rope to separate the area would help. Found the hotel to be a little dated and dirty, especially seating in the cellar bar and Cedars. Meal in Cedars was such a disappointment, young staff who didn’t have a clue. The manager seemed more interested in hurrying everyone up so they could close the tills. Didn’t come to top up wines, refill water. A young male waiter delivered our main course and basically flung it on table. Food was not worth the money and I’m pretty sure my Turbot was not fresh and was over cooked , I overheard waiters talking and one said they haven’t had their starters yet which made me think our mains were made too early and left sitting. The steak at 48 euro was definitely not worth it and to be served with a plate of tobacco onions that you could buy in a shop and make yourself was just not high end. Not once were we asked was everything ok or did we need anything else. When the waitress came with the bill and card machine she finally asked and we said well actually not really. I don’t like complaining but we were both so annoyed with the meal and the cost of it expected great things. She signalled to the male manager who came over and asked what was wrong I started to explain and he said ok let me see what I can do. Two mins later he came back and said he took wine off bill. Didn’t seem interested.

A great place to relax and get away from it all. We love the outdoor infinity pool, the hubby loves the steam room, dry sauna and the other facilities in the thermal suite. I have had spa treatments in the past, but didn't partake this time. Only draw back - robes and slippers are not for the larger person - XL robe is about a UK size 14, slippers not over size 8 - but knowing this, we bring our own.

Only wished we could have stayed longer

We only stayed one night as part of our tour of Ireland and wished it could have been for longer. Room was wonderful, very spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious with excellent variety/ quality available to choose from. Grounds were absolutely stunning. Took advantage of one of the walking trails available in the extensive grounds. Could have spent all day in the peaceful and beautiful surroundings but unfortunately we had to get off on our next leg of our trip. If ever find ourselves in the area in the future, we would not hesitate to return to Farnham Estate.

Couple’s spa night at Farnham Estate, Cavan

We wanted a relaxing day/night away and that’s what we got! Our room was ready two hours early, we were allowed to use the spa area as much as we liked, even after check-out, food and service great! Loads of different relaxation areas in the spa, very relaxed, no need to book. Loved that we could go to spa even after we had checked out the following day. Grounds and hotel are lovely. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Room cleanliness is just average but aside from a bit of dust and the patio area is a bit unkept but still the place is worth a visit and we would definitely be back.
We stayed in a room close to reception which seemed good but the music from the cellar bar area was far too noisy so we would advise requesting a room a bit further away, especially fri and sat nights!

This place has be top of the list of spa stays . The thermal suite is a great experience . Outdoor and indoor pools , saunas , jacuzzis, were really good . The bedroom was spacious and bed comfortable , the food in the lobby bar and maxwells restaurant was first class .

We went for one night as a Christmas present. Was really looking forward to using the spa. A bit disappointed as we could hardly find a spot to put our robes & towel as it was packed. Not the hotels fault though as I think a few guests were staying as they had no electricity or water, due the extreme storm we had. Couldn’t use the outdoor pool or go on a walk in the grounds because of this. Will just have to come back, hopefully. Staff are all lovely and so was the food.

My stay at Farnham Estate was so relaxing & very enjoyable experience. The Spa was especially nice with a great range of facilities. The service in the Cedars Restaurant was excellent & the dinner was delicious.
My only negative comment was that our room 249 was extremely hot therefore not providing us with a good sleep!
