Clean spacious room and bathroom.
Bed very firm but comfortable.
Staff are absolute diamonds - very mannerly and obliging.
Round 3-pin plugs still in use at the bedside. We had to trail an extesion lead across the room from a square 3-pin socket for medical equipment.
Unfortunately our view was of a glass rooftop.
The main dining area with the grand piano was not in use so we were disappointed as we had seen the sample menu.

I went on a bank holiday weekend and the staff were amazing! There were lots of staff that were calm and accommodating to our needs (one just needed a wheelchair which they provided for use in the hotel). The food was very good for all our meals. Also, the singers in the bar were excellent in the evening. My only complaint was that the changing rooms at the gym/pool were quite smelly!

Two nights in Slieve Russell

All was very good but no proper shampoo and conditioner in the rooms. I requested a rope for going to the spa but didn’t arrive on time. Should have been in the room.

Tradesmen not tidying up after themselves found a screw on the carpet which cleaners should have been around after they were finished.
Found a broken glass under a radiator in the club house. Cleaners need to be advised to look everywhere when cleaning.

No bananas on display at breakfast.

Everything else was Excellent. Loved the food in the evenings and bar. Setanta was closed on our visit.

Staff were great and building looked great. Look the new look of the interior.

Enjoyed the staff who were most helpful at all times in the reception and dining areas. The road works outside the hotel was a horrible experience as we had to drive on narrow country roads for almost an hour from the main roads. Local people were so helpful when we got lost on a couple of occasions.

Staff were faultless-very nice. But the bar food wasn't great. Well below par for a place like this. I didn't pay for my meal because it was far from a Carbonara. Just tasted like a catering mix- it certainly wasn't freshly made. Breakfast was better.
The bed in our room was very rickety, so we had to sleep in seperate beds in the end (when one of us rolled over, it woke the other up).
No air con/ climate control in the room despite a control panel for it!?

This was the first time we had ever stayed at the Slieve Russel Hotel but it will definitely not be our last. The hotel was fantastic from start to finish staff were all so friendly and couldn’t do enough for you. We ate in the restaurant and the bar and the food was amazing, rooms were clean and everyone followed the Covid rules and procedures. Thank you Slieve Russell we had a ball ☺️

A lovely weekend break location.

Really enjoyed our stay in the Slieve Russell, The food was the highlight it was of a very good standard, service was also very good. We availed of the walking path around the golf course which has some lovely scenery. The only downside was that the room decor was a little tired, but overall we had a great time.

Nice grounds- garden and walk which skirts part of the golf course. Really nice communal areas with comfy and different types of seating areas which would suit groups or if you wanted some quiet alone time. Sanitisers everywhere. On each floor place to top up water bottles - really good idea. Bar area very nice and staff pleasant. Depending on where you are sitting can be cold due to AC overhead. Cocktails a little pricey at E12 especially as most of them have only one spirit. Public toilets very clean. Bed comfy, complimentary water which is excellent. Cleaning staff really helpful. Need to book pool if you are going to use. Strongly recommend booking restaurant meals as well as breakfast times in advance as they get booked up quickly. Meal in Summit restaurant very good - large portions especially the starters so can be shared. Wasn't able for a dessert unfortunately as stuffed with starter and main meal. Staff very pleasant. We had left a gift voucher at reception instead of credit card and there was an issue with payment as it hadn't been registered so that had to be resolved which put a small damper on the evening. Breakfasts adequate - social distancing in place with seating and getting food. Meal in Setanta restaurant - starters pricey. Be very careful with bill as price shown on menu different to that charged on bill. Overcharged for a starter by E1. 45 and a bottle of wine for E1 which is not acceptable. Overall food nice - chicken a bit dry and skin not crispy.

Great stay and great service!

Stayed for a night to celebrate my Fiancé and I engagement. Room was ready on time and even got a room upgrade as a congratulations. Nice bottle of champagne and chocolates waiting for us. Room was stunning with lovely views over the 18th hole. Food was good and was nice to see the hotel done everything it could to stay and stop Covid making things strange. Will definitely be back. Had a lovely trip here with friends. Staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was spotless and really comfortable. As regards current circumstances it all felt well spaced out and safe in public areas. The hotel was clean and had plenty sanitisation points as well as signs to point people around in a safe direction. It was busy when we were there but it never felt crowded. The outdoors area is well kept and great to wander about. It was a great base to chill out at and just relax. The food was tasty and there were no delays with it. Breakfast was good and despite a minor problem it was still enjoyable. Will be back again!

Made a reservation upon arrival for dinner, the table was booked for 8.45pm we were shown to our seats, fifteen minutes later not one member of staff had approached our table to ask if we wanted service which we clearly did as the menus were placed to the side. When we eventually ordered food was very nice. I asked a member of staff to bring us some drinks and again left waiting for a long time. Restaurant was not very busy so can't understand the lack of service.

The Hotel itself and the surrounding grounds are very beautiful. The room was fine. However, the service, food and hotel policy do not complement the brand at all. The breakfast was below average in terms of choice and quality - diluted orange juice, rubbery eggs, stale bread. Frankly not only disappointing but horrifying as a customer we expected much better given we are being charged 4 star price. The evening meal - fish & chips, though the portion was generous. It lacked quality and freshness - frozen fish. We did bring all of the issues to the attention of staff and the manager. THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT!!! This is not the 4 star spa experience we had hoped. To use the pool you are required swimming cap again not told so will have to buy these from the spa at extra cost. We gave examples of other local facilities 4 star which charge same sort of price but with much superior service and food. No flexibility with regards to check in. Especially if you have driven over 100 miles/ 2.5 hr journey please be considerate and welcome your guests- look after your customer. Shocking response from the manager was I am sure you will give us another chance, the reality is we spent over £200 for one night and were disappointed and the issues were not addressed when we told them to you. How would you expect us to come back, when we said give us a reason why we should come back.... there was no response..,

Nostalgic venue to reminisce about the present

Visiting for a wedding at a nearby venue and the stayed here for the apres celebrations. This hotel is nice in particular the grounds but dated internally in terms of overall condition, bedding etc and having stayed in a much newer property the difference was stark, but it very much depends on what you are seeking.

Good golf course in good location.
Room refurbishment good plus new carpets in many of the corridors.
Areas for improvement: entrance to hotel needs to be kept cleaner and furnishings upgraded.
A couple of young lads working in the bar area need to be managed better.
Breakfast service and how it’s organized needs to be improved- long queues for hot food which interfere with diners sitting at adjacent tables; rotary toaster (just one) getting in the way. Not 4 star standard which is what the hotel is.

We spent the weekend here for our 46 th wedding Anniversary. It was our first vist here. The hotel is just beautiful and set in magnificent grounds. The staff are lovely and all the meals we had were delicious. A truely lovely place. We had a great time. The room was huge and looked out over the gardens. We were more than happy and will certainly recommend the Slieve Russell to our friends

Stayed on a Thursday night and it was very quiet. Visited here 20 years agp and it was as if time stood still. Large bar area but once you had your food order taken, the table service was non existent. We had to go to the bar for extra sauce etc and drinks. No background music so was like a morgue. We had a Brie and chicken ciabatta at lunch and it was lovely but a Ceasar salad later was very poor , with dry chicken goujouns.
We went to the pool in the evening but there was a children’s swimming lesson in session with a lady shouting instruction as the top of her voice. We waited for the class to finish to discover that there was another one to follow, so we left. It was a pity no one informed us of the classes while we were signing in.

I have a lot of time for the Sl. Russell. In fairness, it's a great location, beautiful grounds and entrance to the hotel, great golf course.
Management have started to reinvest in the property - new showers, new carpets, painting obvious in some of the corridors. We had a great room and a great view.
Now the areas for improvement:
- breakfast can be improved. On Saturday morning, at 10am it was out the door and clearly not enough staff to meet that level of custom at that time. 1 rotary toaster: really! Either serve the toast to the table along with tea/coffee or put in extra facilities. On Monday morning, it was quieter yet we were left waiting to be seated for 5 minutes. I was looking for cheese/meats which were not replenished and when I asked the waitress was less than enthusiastic.
- the main restaurant needs updating/major overhaul. The curtains, wallpaper, etc are jaded and some painting and attention to detail is required.
- I like the bar and the food is good. However, again some corners of the bar need to be tidied up and some painting on skirting boards is needed.
- the staff were generally good. However, they let dishes build up in one area for far too long and there did not seem interest in clearing that up and keeping it tidy/awareness of importance to give the right appearance.
Overall, an enjoyable and relaxing stay but they need to tighten up in some obvious places.

I feel I was misinformed by expedia. I booked a room with 2 queen beds through expedia to accommodate 4 adults. On arrival the Slieve Russell told me that they charged per person, not per room with the result that even after paying through expedia, I had to pay out another 250 euro. A very disappointing experience
