The highlight of our entire trip to Ireland. We needed a place to stop for the night during our travel from
Northern into Southern Ireland. We wished we would have stayed longer here. This bnb is an absolute delight! John, the host and Karen were incredibly welcoming and hospitable. We stayed in the carriage house with beautiful garden view, great to stroll through. The views surrounding the property were beautiful. The rooms were clean and the bed was comfy. The breakfast Karen made was delicious…our first try at black and white pudding which were yummy. Thanks to John and Karen, they provided us with recommendations for other sites to see along our trip. We will always remember this stay!

We stayed in the coach house room built in 1600’s, so quaint and so much character. The gardens are stunning, even though it was raining, took a quick walk to appreciate them. Lots of breakfast choices cooked to your liking. John (the owner) was lovely and took the time to explain the property to us.

What a delightful stay in a well styled Manor. All the rooms are tastefully appointed & in keeping with the era which gives a warm homely feeling to your stay.
Delightful staff eager to help, made our stay even more homely.
The showers are difficult to use & perhaps a queen bed to replace the double size would be our only positive criticism.
Despite these small criticisms the stay was just delightful.

We loved our stay at the Woodhill house. The host was amazing. We enjoyed a late dinner, drink, and conversation in the cozy bar/lounge the night of our arrival. Breakfast the following morning was delicious and the staff was very attentive. The property is older and needs some TLC, but still charming and well worth the money and drive.

There wasn’t much we liked about it. The welcome was lukewarm. The pictures are not a bit accurate; sooo outdated and the “gardens” have not been looked after for decades it seems. The shower was a trickle of lukewarm water. The food was not great. The so-called bar was not a welcoming gathering area. We were excited to leave.

A hidden gem in Ardara —peaceful, charming, and relaxing.

I stayed with my family at Woodhill House in Ardara for one night during our recent trip to Ireland, and it was easily one of the most memorable stays of our holiday. The house is nestled in a secluded, bucolic setting surrounded by beautiful gardens, mature trees, and stone work that add to its peaceful charm. The atmosphere was incredibly serene, a true retreat from the hustle and bustle.

The house itself felt more like a warm, welcoming home compared to any other place we stayed. It’s full of character, with personal touches, family photos, antiques, and heirlooms that give it a rich sense of history and comfort. The bar and dining areas are equally inviting. The dining room is elegant without being stuffy, and the bar/den is cozy and full of charm.

John, the owner, was friendly and very accommodating, and all the staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome. They were kind, attentive, and genuinely interested in us and our trip, which made the experience feel even more special.

The included traditional Irish breakfast was one of the best I had during my entire two-week trip. It was generous, absolutely delicious, and beautifully prepared.

Ardara is truly a special place. I can't recommend \"Triona - Donegal Tweed Visitor Centre\" enough! I would highly recommend staying here, and I’d return in a heartbeat. A truly special place that feels like stepping into a peaceful, well-loved corner of Ireland.

This is a super cute bed and breakfast. We stayed in the outer building in a family room. It was absolutely beautiful with a little balcony overlooking the cutest little garden. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was excellent. My only complaints were the Wi-Fi did not work great in the outer building and there was zero pressure in the shower head but we just took a bath instead and that was great.

John and his staff were excellent. We got just a wee bit of the story of how he’d been the owner for the past four decades. The place is charming to the hilt. Breakfast was wonderful and the staff fun and engaging as well. The area out front of the manor house is gorgeous. You are in the heart of the Irish countryside with sheep bleating in the distance. The drive from the road up to the house is charming too. A few cobwebs here and there and some big spiders are natural in a place that was built as long ago, and the gardens- while beautiful- are being seen about a bit slowly. That said, we absolutely loved our stay and greatly appreciated the hospitality. I don’t think it could be beat, and I’d highly recommend staying here. Great for couples and small families.

Overall everything was acceptable except for the so called restaurant Choice of menu was limited & the prices were much too high: small chicken pie, lettuce leaves & 3 slices of tomato 22 euro: 4 small pieces of wheaten bread,3.50 euro & worst of all a cup of hot water 3.50 euro!
Breakfast was good & the staff were lovely
The decor was rather dated but probably in keeping with the age of the property

Feels like this used to be a very nice establishment but it has somehow had the stuffing knocked out of it. Felt a bit sad there, really.
Property probably very nice in years gone by but badly faded.
Decor old style, with no updating. Everything very tired.
Check in quite odd - sort of a hello, shown to room, that was about it.
Cleanliness underwhelming.
Staff undertrained or just not that good.
Atmosphere - none really, including in bar.
Breakfast very good although service completely haphazard and amusing in a sad sort of way.

Very very cool spot with great views right from your room. Or just taking a walk around to really feel the nature.

The staff are very helpful and deserve the best. Great food for breakfast as well. They have turf burning by the bar to keep guests warm (remember, this is a super old building so be nice about that. This is their only heat source for the main lobby and bar area.)

The room is very comfortable and gives you everything you'd want as a traveler.

The one down side is if youre not driving and carrying luggage. It's about a 10 minute walk from the bus stop but a bit uphill. And it becomes very low light at night which is a bit spooky. But very safe area so nothing to fear!

The building where our room was is somewhat rundown and there was an odd smell when we entered. Our room had a patio overlooking a walled garden that was once lovely but needs to be tended to. There is a pedestrian pathway nearby that goes all the way into town, which was a nice surprise. The breakfast was very good!

The pictures of the property on Expedia appear to be older pictures as the property was not as in good condition as appears in the photos. The room was clean. Sitting in the garden was lovely. Staff was helpful. Breakfast was served between 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. However, they didn't start preparing the breakfast until 8:00 a.m. So, if you are like us and had an excursion booked you will need to let the staff know that you are on a timetable.

We had a lovely stay at Woodhill House. The room was spacious and we selected the room with the garden which was lovely to sit in and walkabout. We had dinner at the restaurant both nights and the food was delicious, definitely recommend dinning here if you are in Ardara. We really enjoyed having a drink after dinner at the adorable bar too. Place needs an overhaul everything is so old. Faded, you can keep the antiques but get the rugs and Upholstry updated. Wasn’t sure the last time the place had the carpets or furniture professionally cleaned. Charming in many ways, great location, mattress sunk in the middle. The bathrooms were ok. This manor house and walled garden is in a very picturesque setting and within easy walking distance to the village of Ardara. Generously sized room, with comfortable bed, and fresh linens and towels and beautiful outlook on to walled-garden. However, the property and grounds were in a general state of disrepair and could do with a major refresh. Carpets and furniture very worn and dated; noticeable damp and mildew in common rooms and guest room; flower containers around property were either empty or filled with weeds.

A Home from Home

Woodhill House is a very old property with some bedrooms dating back to 1660. It has a homely feel to it.
The owner is a charming gentleman and my wife and I have stayed there on several occasions over many years.
The food is excellent and the staff friendly.

It is only a short walk from Ardara.

Excellent stay at Woodhill House. Ran by John and his staff who were absolutely fantastic and friendly throughout. The room we were in was huge and had plenty of space for my son to play in, and also plenty of space outside around the gardens. Breakfast served everyday in the main house was lovely and with the decor and background music it felt like going back in time to less hectic days. Put your phones etc away and relax. Just under a 10 min walk to town, you couldn't beat it. Would love to return someday!

My favorite stay in Ireland

I found this quaint inn by accident and, based on the reviews, decided to change my plans and stay a night here. It was outstanding - one of my favorite stays. The staff were excellent hosts, the breakfast was delicious, the rooms were comfortable, and the atmosphere could not have been better. If you want the most modern setting with huge flat screen TV and plenty of concrete in the car park - don't stay here. If you want a great experience with comfortable surroundings, do yourself a favor and book a night or two here.

Our host, John was charming, helpful and informative regarding our drive to the cliffs of Slieve League and other area attractions, and regarding the [olitical and economic issues facing Ireland at this point in its history. He arranged a wonderful horseback ride to a nearby beach for a lovely gallop. The staff are delightful, and Woodhill House is a wonderful place to stay - very comfortable and beautifully decorated. The food is excellent. There are walls on the property dating back to the 17th century, and lovely gardens. We will certainly return to Woodhill house on our next visit to County Donegal.

We had the large ground floor family room and it was plenty large with ensuite bathroom. The pics on the website are a little dark -- the room is nicer than the pics make it look. The beds were very comfortable. The full Irish Breakfast was generous and the lady was very nice and attentive. This property is in a small quaint town. We chose to leave our car & walk to the town for dinner and there are a couple of great places there (Nancy's was great!). This property has an elegant dinner as well but we were with children and chose not to do the full course menu but the menu looked lovely.

There is a cosy bar and restaurant (we didn't eat here) and John the owner was friendly and inviting. Will hope to visit again.

Beautiful gardens to stroll through. The garden rooms are lovely with a private terrace where we dined in the rose garden. Lovely warm service and extra efforts to fulfill our requests. Great time.

Lovely grounds, comfortable room, delicious breakfast and most importantly friendly and knowledgeable host. He gave us sightseeing advice that was excellent!

Beautiful woodland hillside setting. House is very old and if you like exposed beams and stone walls you will love it. Breakfast outstanding. Eve8ng restaraunt onsite. Not very modern facilites ie tv .
