This property has been undergoing renovation for quite some time without end. In our recent stay we were moved 3 times in a week due to construction and lack of hot water. The new room on the 3rd occasion was really nice however no point having a fancy bath if can’t use it. Leaking kettles, loose taps, never seem to know how many persons are on the room to ensure enough towels or drinking water and always have to chase for service rather than receive. Speaking to the lady staying on same floor as we did said she has been complaining for 6 weeks.We were patrons having come back for the 3rd time in this year, however it will now be the last. Lovely front desk staff however the overall management requires significant improvement.

First night found lamps and safe not working. Next morning woken up by construction directly above at 07:10, complained and apologized and informed wasn’t supposed to start before 08:00. Next morning same thing at 07:14, so were moved. New room woken up by noises in pipes and found our bathroom, bath and shower full of sewerage coming out. Moved again. Next morning banging again directly above us at 07:08?? We normally like to stay at Anew , however this was a terrible experience and moved 3 times in one week. Really thought management would have offered a reduction in rates or some form of refund but not to be, very disappointing and not the normal standard of South African hotel management.

Anew needs to renew!!

There is a horrible stench in the reception area and itgets worse as you walk to the restaurant, The phone in my room did not work. The bathroom handle broke off causing my wife to be locked in the bathroom for a few minutes. The plug points at the desk were faulty and made charging devices difficult. I am very disappointed and cancelled the 2nd night's stay.

A nightmare

Worst experience in a 6 week trip around south africa! I requested a room away from the elevators when I booked but then they put me in a room beside the elevators overlooking the noisy highway below with poor insulation. I went back down to reception to ask for a room facing the quiet courtyard, which they told me they were sold out of. Then at 2am I woke up sweating to a broken air conditioner and a rapidly heating room. Then reception moved me to 4 other rooms in the middle of the night because each one also had broken air conditioners. By the way, 3 of those rooms were facing the quiet courtyard so they had lied previously about them being sold out. Then I was woken up early by housekeeping yelling and constantly slamming doors. I checked out and booked another hotel!

The bathroom door did not close/open with the ease the it should. The shower head in the bathroom was so loose I had to hold it with one hand and shower with the other. The room was generally musty & dusty. The issues are just unacceptable.

Still the best location and value in Centurion

I really like the convenience and location of the hotel and i stay there very often. The biggest issue i have is with the amount of noise i experience at night. For example, all the cupboard doors and regular doors dont have padding or soft close mechanisms and make a loud bang when closed, i wish they would fix this.

The hotel is well located, the staff very friendly, and clean, however there were issues. 1) We got in late in the afternoon 15h00 but could not check-in and sat around for an hour until our rooms were ready. In the early hours of the next morning there was a lot of loud talking, I figured that it maybe came from the room next door, and put a pillow over my head to drown it out, but at 06h00 I opened my door only to find the noise was from people sleeping in sleeping bags in the corridor in front of my room, they were busy packing up, and left all their litter in the corridor. That afternoon I got back to the hotel at 16h00 only to find my room stripped of all bedding - why? The housekeeping staff only rectified this at 17h00. Something else I had an issue with was they offer breakfast at R210 per day which would be R420 for my two day stay for breakfast, needless to say I gave that a miss and ate at the wimpy for R60.
Its issues like this that destroy a hotels reputation, they really need to address their housekeeping and try and get control of the hotel back, you cant have people squatting in the corridors.

Took 3 hours to check in to right room i had requested. A suite with twin beds. The TV reception is poor for a hotel of the status. The supersport channels are there but can hardly view some of the channels. Some stuff were absolutely pleasant but a few not so much.

I Arrived at midnight , reception man insisted my booking is not paid & charged me again.
At checkout in the morning , a nice lady assisted me and sorted out the duplicate payment for refund.
Rooms are nice , but bathrooms need some TLC.
Did not use any other facilities.

Can’t fault the staff or the facilities and was very week looked after, the location is convenient however is spoilt by the stagnant water that smells awful nearby, unfortunately I also contracted salmonella poisoning from the food which has left me veri I’ll for the week after my visit. Advise not using the restaurant or room service

9-Day stay experience

Pretty sure a smoker occupied the suite before we moved in although we specifically requested a non-smoking suite and we had to leave all windows open for 48 hours to get rid of the constrictive air. Service was top notch but amenities were not up to standard and food well prepared and served. Poor choice to furnish a suite with only one twoseater couch. Guest conversation is compromised sitting next to one another facing awsy from each other. Z
Poor quality pleather covering makes for noisy and sweaty lounging. Airconditioning not up to standand and noisy. Nice add was the basic kitchenette, but the adsence of a dishcloth forces a facetowel to be used to dry utensils and crockery.

An old and not well maintained building

This is an old building. Common areas are clean and nice, but rooms are not good at all. The hotel is in major need of a maintenance and upgrade. They advertise as a 4* hotel, but this could barely qualify as a 3*. Staff ignore do not disturb signs and some rooms are not getting cleaned till 4PM.

Only if you really have to book at this hotel....

Check-in was lovely, thank you Karambo. after that it just went down hill where after requesting non feather bedding we ended up with feather pillows! There was noise early morning for 2 nights next to the second room I had booked but the staff didn't do anything: at least they could have moved the other people or my children, but nothing was done. This is not how I expected a Marriott hotel to deal with this situation. I was not impressed with their service.

Airconditioner in room noisy and blowing directly on you when lying in bed. Basin belongs in the bathroom and not the bedroom. Food absolutely disgusting and inedible. Wifi signal so poor that I gave it up and got a prepaid

Stay Away!! Horrible! Cockroaches in room!

The positives of the hotel:

1. great location
2. friendly staff
3. good wifi

The negatives:
1. the most expensive suite, (room 535) which we stayed in, looks at best, like a 2 star motel. It is extremely outdated. There is no place by the bed to plug your phone in, unless you want to unplug the ruggedy looking bed lamp. Room pics they have posted, are very deceiving. The curtains, which are probably never vacuumed or dry cleaned, are not properly hooked and looks like it is hanging on for dear life.
2. garbage bin had trash in it when we got the room
3. no lock on the interconnecting door between our suite and the one next to ours. we reported it to front desk immediately and asked that they fix it the next day while we were out. we stuck a suitcase in front of the door for the night. the next evening when we got back to our room, the door lock was not fixed.
4. probably the only hotel I have ever been at, that chargers R25 For a toothbrush. if you plan to stay here, don't forget yours.
5. on our second day, there was a nice big cockroach in the room, right by the bed. a few flies also graced us with their presence in the room.

With a toilet constantly leaking into the bathroom; no service at the pooldeck to get coffee, a room-safe that seems as if someone tried to force it open... To name but a few - this hotel should not receive more than two stars - Centurion has much better to offer...

Mediocre. Whilst nothing particularly poor or good, it's not that expensive so allowances must be made. However, the bar had limited beer and for 3 nights they had no stock, still waiting for a delivery. What they did have was not that cold and the service was terribly slow. Breakfast had run out of some hot dishes and it took 20 minutes for replenishment which was too late. Small changes could make a big difference as there is little choice in the area. Typical of the variable standard of Protea hotels.

the hotel was quite basic, we reserved an upgraded room. The room offered the basics and did the job but was a little dated and used. The AC and fridge were noisy. Everything was a bit worn.
Good enough for a day or two stop off but had no local charm.
Convenient for the mall and then airport.

Avoid this place.

Horrible hotel. Dont recommend it to anyone. Has a bad odor to it and the general design and condition are poor at least.

Reception does not have enough checkin cards either.

One of the 2 elevators is faulty and the working one was in its own mission.

The dishes at the attached restaurant were not very clean, had lipstic on my coffee cup and bunch of dirty dishes that appeared half clean from the dishwasher.

The restaurant staff were happy to help.

Will be posting to tripadvisor as well.

Very convenient stay for what I needed to do. Easy access to all main routes, within walking distance of station for the Gautrain that goes to Johannesburg International Airport. Very friendly staff, always willing to help and smiling while helping you. The only let down for the hotel is the access to the parking area. I found this quite tricky as I were not familiar with the area. Very good Value for money.
