The castle is fantastic and the rooms are too. Be very careful with pricing. The manager clearly rips people off. Pay double for your food, be lied to about a \"free\" tour and the excuse will be, \"oh it's an issue with Wotif and language dirrerences. I'll need to sort that.\" And be aware you may be charged for your room twice. We were. Don't trust them.

great experience

A lovely and recommended place. it was a great experience. We enjoyed walking around the corridors of the castle and discovering the special rooms with weapons and armor. We took part in a tour \"Sophie's Cave\" - we really enjoyed it, but the downside is that the tour is in German, altow you can try to get an explanation from the guides separately. After the tour we attended a wonderful dinner at the castle.

If you are staying on property you drive down to the gate. Buzz the front desk and they will let you through to unload your bags. You will then park above the gate in the parking lot. We drove into town to eat dinner and pick up a couple of bottles of wine. Rooms were huge, clean, well kept.

The property is amazing and the room was very comfortable. English is spoken but we had a miscommunication with the staff (not quite enough detail) about the location of the on-site concert, which led to us missing about half of it before we finally found it. Dinner in the hotel restaurant was good but very drawn out. After three hours, our 11-year-old was pretty antsy. Breakfast was good.

Staff were friendly and very helpful. Breakfast was fine. the room was comfortable. Parking is easy but a bit of a walk and the signs to the hotel could be improved. I found it confusing to find the entrance during a heavy downpour. But the hotel met my needs very nicely and I do commend the staff who are wonderful.

We decided to stay at Burg Rabenstein for one evening in a trip around Germany, and it was well worth the stop. The castle and its grounds were beautiful. There is a local cave and falconry on-site; however, they were both closed for the winter (we visited in December). Even so, we were able to take advantage of the local hiking trails around the castle, which we thoroughly enjoyed. A free tour of the castle is included with your reservation booking, which was informative and enjoyable. The tour is in German. Hotel staff were incredibly welcoming and made our visit very enjoyable.

The room was very large, clean, and offered a huge soaking tub. The room was a bit noisy - you could hear everything in the hallways and rooms above/below. However, that wouldn't deter us from visiting again.

Breakfast was free and included a nice spread of meats, cheeses, granola, yogurt, various coffees, and eggs made to order. There was a dinner murder-mystery performance the night we stayed; however, it was already booked up. The concierge suggested two local restaurants, one of which was right down the road and had amazing food.

Overall, we loved our visit and look forward to staying here again on our next trip to Germany.

I loved staying here. It is not far off the A9 and is stiuated in a beautiful location in the Franconian mountains. The property is very well maintained and the kitchen is excellent. They also have an outbuilding and beirgarten which was quite relaxing. Will definitely visit again!

Burg Rabenstein is a Medieval Castle Hotel in a idyllic setting overlooking a beautiful ravine in rural Franconia. There are beautiful hiking trails, a nice beer garden and a falconry, which puts on daily shows. The WiFi is poor in terms of connection strength and unless you ask for multiple login codes, you will only receive access for a single device. The hotel in not air conditioned and many of the windows do not have screens. So, the rooms can be stuffy in warm weather, or alternatively you’ll get eaten up by bugs. The rooms are dark even with the lights on. The main desk is only staffed from 8 am until 9 pm. There is no bell service, so you will need to carry your bags up stairs yourself. There is an elevator, but it is located at the back of the dining room and does not reach all rooms. The food at dinner is good, but service can be slow. The Continental breakfast was good and starts at 8 am. The Burg would be a fun getaway for a family looking to unplug for a few days, step back in time and enjoy the outdoors in a beautiful place. It perhaps lacks too many of the creature comforts and service which would be ideal for a couples getaway.

It's a castle from the 13th Century!

The setting is amazing. The rooms find a comfortable balance between preserving the old and providing the comfort of new. There are many walking trails and a a place that has different species of bird that have shows which sound interesting.

Great castle experience

The castle was an awesome setting with beautiful and spacious guest room with king bed as well as stunning common areas such as lobby with fireplace and dining room and chapel. We were traveling the castle road across Germany and came across this hotel. Quiet and relaxing. We had a delicious dinner in the restaurant as well as a terrific breakfast buffet in the morning. We took a tour of Sophie's Cave located on the grounds. Highly recommend this hotel.

No hot water and misleading claims from hotel staf

I had little to no got water both mornings of my stay. I traveled with a friend and we had two rooms, upon check-in we were told that we could split the bill and pay with two separate card on the morning we check out; however, on checkout they wouldn't split the bill for the two rooms and claimed there was nothing they could do. The wifi is also terrible and didn't work in My room or my friends room. It's a cool old castle and worth a visit to just check out, but I wouldn't recommend staying there.

It's a real castle... What's not to love! Genuinely the most memorable stay in 3 weeks we have had from countless hotels. Dinner was special, the lounge with the open fire you could sit in all night. And super breakfast too. Do yourself a favour and don't miss the caves and falconry next door too!

Terrific Castle in Great Location

Very comfortable castle, great room (suite) with views over the valley. Room was comfortable and well furnished though shame not to have a kettle to make ourselves drinks. No TV which was fine, and very patchy WiFi which we were ok with but others may find irritating.

Public rooms fantastic and a roof terrace too. Fires in the evening even in August. Not many staff and very discrete service - you can ask for anything and it is delivered with charm, but you need to ask. This suited us but this is not like a luxury US Hotel.

Situation is fantastic. Beautiful countryside, great hiking trails and small villages to visit. Not far to Bamberg and we stayed here while attending the Bayreuth Festival just 20 mins drive away.

Breakfast is great, evening restaurant ok - menu limited and poor for vegetarians (you could eat there once) but reasonable.

Fairy tale castle.

An amazing castle to stay in, sited on a spectacular crag. The evening meals and breakfasts were excellent and all the staff helpful and welcoming. It was wonderful to be able to wander the corridors on a evening and sit in an atmospheric lounge area with log fire. Staff were always on hand to provide drinks etc. Will definitely return.

Fun to stay in a medieval castle

The castle is beautifully appointed as a hotel. It seems mostly patronized by Germans. I was the only non-German in the place, which is a good sign of its appeal to locals. I was there for one of their special meals, 4 courses and a fire show. The food was excellent and the show entertaining. My room had a lovely view. The bathrooms are a little worn, but clean and functional. I was not too happy with the small room I was initially given (a single, which was fine, but no character). They immediately moved me to another room, which was lovely. I would recommend booking a larger room, even if travelling on your own, so you get the nicer decor. The common rooms (dining, lounge) are lovely. Breakfast was excellent. I stayed here for one night on the way from Bayreuth to Munich. It is a little off the beaten track, but worth the extra effort.

Best stay of my life

The location is perfect, its out of the way from the noise of city and traffic, in the beautiful countryside. The castle looks amazing as you drive up to it, and when you enter it is just as beautiful, if not more, on the inside. The rooms are immaculate and the staff is extremely helpful and accommodating. I had an amazing stay, the food was the best ive ever eaten in all of germany, and i will definately be coming back!

This may be off the beaten track, but it was so worthwhile. Excellent staff, very helpful. Room was a suite, couldn't ask for more. Only thing missing was air con, it was over 30 degrees during our stop, so very close. Maybe a portable unit would work. But the setting was top-notch.

Our stay here was incredible. Every amenity was thought of and everyone was friendly and helpful. The rooms were more than comfortable and quite beautiful. The reception staff greeted us at the grand wooden castle door. We arrived late, (we got lost) and they held a late dinner reservation for us. The food was not only delicious, but a work of art to look at. The waitress claimed her English was catastrophic (her description, not ours) but she was fabulous and truly spoke english quite well.

Das Zimmer war einfach klasse. Ein richtiges Erlebnis. Das Frühstück war reichlich und es gab eine tolle Auswahl, das Personal war super freundlich und ich kann die Burgführung (die für Hotelgäste kostenlos ist gegen Voranmeldung) sehr empfehlen.
In der Umgebung gibt es die Falknerei, die definitiv auch einen Besuch wert ist und die Schlossschenke hatte auch sehr leckere Sachen im Angebot, wobei hier die Öffnungszeiten beachtet werden sollten, wenn man Abends dort essen möchte.
Der Parkplatz ist ein kleines Stück vom Hotel entfernt, man kann aber auch vorfahren, wobei wir das kurze Stück gut zu Fuß gehen konnten. Man sollte lediglich beachten, dass es im Hotel nicht in jedem Stockwerk einen Aufzug gibt. Falls das also wichtig ist, empfehle ich, dort vor einer Zimmerbuchung anzurufen und zu fragen, welche Zimmer per Aufzug erreicht werden können.

Einzigartiges Ambiente in 800 Jahre alter Burg auf Felsvorsprung mit tollem Essen und tollem Service vom Personal. Leider ist die Ausstattung und die Anmutung unser Zimmers deutlich in die Jahre gekommen - unser Preisniveau lag bei der Rabenstein Suite immerhin auf 5-Sterne Ebene - da reicht dann Ambiente allein nicht mehr und es muss mehr geliefert werden wie zB sicheres und leistungsstarkes WLAN (gerade wenn kein TV), Minibar im Zimmer (oder zumindest Kaffee/Teezubereitungsmöglichkeit) sowie eine hoch- und neuwertige Ausstattung mit voller Funktion

Burgfeeling mit kleinen Abstrichen

Der Check-in an der Rezeption war etwas hektisch und holprig. Wir wurden mehfach darauf hingewiesen, dass wir gleich zum Empfangs-Cocktail in den 1. Stock kommen sollten. Als wir dorthin kamen und unser Getränk wählte, wollte man 13 € dafür. Als wir sagten, dass wir gerade angekommene Gäste des Hauses sind und dass ein Willkommens-Cocktail normalerweise kostenlos ist, wurden wir mit unverständlichen Blicken abgeschaut. Das Getränk, das wir nicht zahlen wollten, wurde daraufhin hin zurückgegossen.... Kein schöner Start!
... und das an unserem Silberhochzeitstag.
Die Luxus-Suite war zwar groß, aber mit einer recht zusammengewürfelten Einrichtung. Die Dusche in der Badewanne – ohne eine seitliche Abdeckung - ist nicht so gut. Eine Minibar oder ein Kühlschrank suchten wir in der Suite vergeblich. Lange Wege mit dem Gepäck bis zur Suite (kein Kofferwagen / mitten durch den Speisesaal) sind nicht schön.
Das sollte man wissen: es gibt weder ein Radio noch ein TV in der Suite. So lupenrein mittelalterlich ist das Gebäude nicht, dass man es als Grund anführt, bewusst keine TV Geräte zu haben. In unserem Zimmer war auch noch der Internetempfang schlecht und instabil.
Was wirklich gut war und den Aufenthalt angenehm gestaltete war ein sehr gutes Frühstück und die freundliche Bedienung.

ein sehr besonderer Ort zum Übernachten. 800 Jahre alt, aber sehr gut erhalten und mit dem entsprechenden Flair. Sehr nettes Personal, gutes Frühstück und ein toller Blick ins Tal aus dem Fenster.
Sehr empfehlenswert für einen Ausstieg aus dem Alltag.

Dirty place, bad service, find another stay.

Har rejst over hele verden, men aldrig oplevet noget så ekstremt dårligt som dette. Det mest lumre og beskidte værelse uden mulighed for udluftning. Jeg fik hovedpine af at være der og valgte at sove i bilen, min hustru blev i værelset. Hen på natten skulle hun på toilettet, blev lukket inde her da håndtaget faldt af døren. Hun var lukket inde i et rum uden vindue eller anden mulighed for at komme ud. Personalet på stedet syntes alt var ok og der ikke var nogen problemer i forhold til det bestilte. Vi kunne heller ikke finde oplevelsen af et ophold på en gammel borg, som billeder viste, ved ophold ser man kun et hjørne af bagsiden af borgen, da resten ligger ud mod ufremkommelige klipper. Hold jer væk fra dette sted, det er en dyr og virkelig dårlig oplevelse.
PS har forsøgt at uploade billeder af hvor beskidt der er på værelset, men uden succes.

We booked a room where we can bring our bulldog - we naturally paid the requested der of €20 pr night, but we were both placed on the top floor, without lift, sonwe had to carry her up and Down, as the steps are high and feel, no water bowl offered, we do carry our own, but would have been an expected service.
We paid the fee and the surroundings are perfekt to bring your dog, but they are not welcome, only the fee you pay.
English is not spoken.
