Great room w/balcony overlooking the sea. Room had great water pressure, hot water and shower drained normally. Nightly bar activities were short but fun. It was winter season so most business were closed, but what was open was fantastic - especially King Yo restaurant just 5 mins away from the hotel.

Cannot fault this hotel. Brilliant staff, friendly helpful, couldn't be more accommodating. Indoor pool super open until 9pm. I was here on my own in December for a pre Christmas holiday in sun and felt totally safe. Walkable along promenade to old town. Would be back again!

Good to share resources and restaurant options with sister hotels on the resort. However the good security systems made it difficult to get to them. Staff were friendly and helpful. The way that food allergies were managed were a little less than perfect although some staff seemed to understand the basics… we had a good break there.

I wasn’t going to write this review initially but so many things went wrong i felt the need to. #1 this is supposed to be a 4-5 star Hotel and they make you buy tokens (5$ per wash) and laundry detergent for your clothes. I didn’t mind buying so i went down to reception and after many failed attempts because of their machine i wasn’t able to pay with card. She then took the tokens back from me and asked me to go grab cash at a grocery store. You also have to pay for Steam room/ Sauna / Jacuzzi. I arrived early and waited till 4:45pm to check in then waited another 45 minutes to actually get into my room at 5:30pm. The tv is super old with no channels. The only thing that’s nice about this hotel is the actual building and location other than that all the hostels I’ve stayed at are better than this “nice” hotel. The workers are trying their best but i can see it’s a management/owner problem they seem greedy.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the Grand Muthu, and it’s somewhere we would come back to. However, it’s important to know what to expect. We would be coming back for the atmosphere, but essentially nothing else.

Positives:
- The pool was the biggest highlight, it was large enough that even when it was packed there was plenty of space. (Just make sure to grab a spot before 9am) It was also very clean.
- Proximity to the beach was great, we were able to end our days with a beach walk, which had beautiful views.
- Excellent air conditioning.
- The location was great. New town was a quick walk, old town was a quick taxi as well as the Albufeira Marina.
- Looked better than surrounding hotels.

Negatives
- This hotel shows its age, a lot of damage and not updated spaces. While it was reasonably cleaned, it still felt old.
- Housekeeping was okay, we came back to a messily made bed, or only one towel instead of two. We ended up buying our own soap because even when requested it was not replaced.
- We did see several cockroaches both outside and inside the hotel. As well as lots of ants inside our room.
- The absolute worst thing was the food. The aquabar had decent food, but the listed partner restaurants were horrible. A lot seemed like microwaved or store bought packaged food.

We did enjoy ourselves but we would not get the food package again, and our expectations would be to relax and enjoy the beautiful pool / beach as well as explore the nearby towns more.

It was not a 5 star property. You had to buy pool towels. While it was described as being on the beach, you had to rent chairs for 20€ to be on the beach. The inclusive restaurants were mediocre at best. The bars had no ginger ale got more than a week. We had to go to local supermarket and purchase our own for use at the bar. There were no frozen cocktails.

Avoid at all costs if you like nice places

Possibly the worst hotel experience I can remember. The neighbourhood is noisy, tatty and rough. The room I was given was dirty and in dire need of refurbishment. There was nothing nice about it. The noise from the nearby “strip” continued until 6am (and this was a Tuesday night) with yobbish shouting and “singing” continuously. While the view to the from of the balcony was a decent sea view, the side view was of a rubbish dump. I checked out after one night (was supposed to stay three). The manager was apologetic and offered me another room but I was just desperate to get well away from there. I was surprised that no refund was offered

This property is not more than a 1 star. Rooms are extremely outdated. Washrooms smell. AC does not work properly. It might have been a 5 star during 1960s but looks like time changed but hotel owner decided to not invest even a single euro after the 1st opening. Please stay away from this place if you coming to enjoy the hotel. The only plus point is the proximity to the strip.

Our overall experience was good.
The staff were welcoming and friendly.
Hotel was looking a little tired and could do with a spruce up but it was clean.
Our first day by the pool was ruined by a bunch of rowdy men shouting and swearing, hence we went to the beach and never went back to the pool.
We were all inclusive and the food was excellent though the bbq grill at the muthu garden was absolutely terrible. Firstly they argued we had not booked but i could quite cleary see my name on the list. The staff didnt seem to know what they were doing! Our food was served an hour after we were seated!
All the other customers were not happy either.
We did not return to the muthu garden to try the other restaurants!
All the other restaurants were good though.
But apart from that one experience we had a very good holiday and
the strip was two minutes up the road with plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from.

MGM has to shut this place down for a winter and do a full remodel.The staff was great but suffered under the heavy burden of poor upkeep and outdated infrastructure. Neither of my TVs worked in either room and I never called to fix them as I saw the staff struggling with water issues and rooms not ready. I am in the customer service industry as an owner and it seems to me the ownership here just does the minimum to suck cash out of their investment. They could do a lot better if they updated this place.

I would like to draw the attention of everyone who intends to book this hotel. I booked 6 nights for me and my 10 year old son. I didn’t expect a super experience but I at least wanted some sort of comfort (it’s 5* after all!!). Some reviews were quite alarming but the fact that it is indeed 5 stars made me bite the bullet and made this booking.

I have stayed in many MANY hotels in my life. This was the worst. I don’t want to bore anyone with the same details that were shared already by previous reviewers. It’s all true, dirty, smelly, old, bathtub leaking, you pay for dirty towels etc etc etc… Oh and the noise!! We haven’t slept one bit in those horrible two nights that we managed to stay there. Out of 6. We run away to another hotel and my god the relief!! I was honestly almost in tears when I saw my clean room, nice bathroom and we could sleep!!!

The only positive out of all the things put together was the receptionist called Anabel. She was lovely, professional and actually helpful.

Having read so many reviews of deeply dissatisfied tourists and having experienced the hotel in all its glory myself I wonder if a proper investigation should be done. Not the usual: you write a review and the hotel tells you ‘thank you, we will try to improve’. It looks like it’s all a lie. They don’t want to improve. They don’t care. And it’s very sad and disgusting. Things should be done differently.

Hotel is jaded and needs updating. I booked 2 double bedrooms which in the photo looked like they had been recently renovated but got 2 apartments which were outdated. However due to all the extra space decided to stay in apartments.
Staff in restaurant do not have tables ready at breakfast or lunch so people are walking around looking for knives, forks, etc.
No holiday or good atmosphere in the building. The only ‘life’ is by the pool, which was heated with diving area and slides for children. Recommend the pool.
Special themed restaurants are also boring .. no atmosphere and again tables not laid or ready for customers. These are booked in advance so there is no excuse for lack of preparation. Location of restaurants Muthu Garden is cheap and low class

The property lacked basic amenities such as sugar tea and coffee sachets we were not notified that there was a 100 euros deposit so that came as a surprise. I think for the price there are better options available other there would not recommend. The property is walking distance from the strip and the beach but otherwise would not recommend.

By NO measure is this a 5-star hotel.

It's billed as a 5-star hotel. It's barely a 2-star dump. There is no soap by the sink. When I asked the front desk, they said to use the soap dispenser in the shower. No coffee provided for the coffee maker. When I asked the front desk I was told yes, there is no coffee in the rooms. Same with bottled water. Plus the hallways are furniture are dirty.

Thank you Grand Muchu Oura View Club. For a pleasant stay and enjoyable holiday.

I got in contact with the hotel prior to arriving as our flight arrived in Faro early in the morning. This was excellently acknowledged and our early check into the hotel was fully accomodated. My travelling party needed the extra support and this was honoured by the reception team.

Communication with the hotel upon arrival and throughout our stay was very pleasant.
Even when we had issues with the light in the room, it was promptly dealt with.

Ok, food options were slightly limited but we had 5 different restaurant options which meant we were not bored.

The location is fab and met our needs. Cleaning was on point and staff were very accomodating.

I would definitely stay here again. Thanks again. 😊

* We cannot fault the reception staff, they were all so helpful & friendly. Exactly what you would hope for.

* The restaurants offsite just near the beach are great!

Negatives:
* On the first few days despite paying for all inclusive no food was being served at the hotel. We had to walk to another hotel nearby, I booked all inclusive for convenience and so we could pop down for something to eat when we fancied it.
* The buffet was horrendous. None of it seemed to go together to make a meal, I ended up with chips and bread. I did get some chicken wings to go with it, but they were not very nice.
* We we’re excited for the speciality restaurants. One night it was raining terribly and the man seeing us in basically told us off being late, was very rude and then proceeded to just put food on the table and walk off without speaking to us. The speciality restaurants were all in the Mexican and out of the same kitchen. You do not choose a meal, you just get given random things on a plate for each course. Eg a starter we were given was Tuna Mayo, mashed potato and potato skins?!! The food was all very bland and not speciality restaurant quality at all.
* Due to the inconvenience of food not being available in the hotel and the food not being an enjoyable quality, we paid to eat out twice every day and ordered in groceries to make our own breakfast. So a total waste of money paying for all inclusive.
* The place is very run down, but could be beautiful.

I’m not sure what scale that this property is using to justify its 5 stars, perhaps it’s 5/100. It is extremely misleading, considering that I could have stayed somewhere far nicer for the same price. Everything is run down and old. The gym equipment is mostly broken in one way or another and the “spa” is worse than my local gym “spa”, certainly not one expected at a 5 or even 3 star resort. This hotel is 2 stars at best. Granted the rooms are spacious enough, so you can probably squeeze a bunch of people in there, they are bland and stale like old bread. Somewhere 30-40 years when this place was presumably built it was probably ok. They just forgot that we’re now in 2024…

Pool was large and area clean. Only there for a long weekend, but we had good weather in between minor drops of rain. Look forward to staying there again

Overall impression of hotel was not good.

Only 1 lift working, décor was tatty & dated, rooms very old fashioned, beds very uncomfortable, pool too small for hotel capacity, noise from rooms above very loud, the cleaners don’t clean kitchen items, location is close to lively part with nightclubs/bars, pool/beach towels available but you have to pay to rent them & leave a deposit (most 4/5* hotels give you a card to exchange for a towel). Negative points wouldn’t be an issue if the hotel wasn’t listed as 5*

Room was very old & unpleasant to stay in. We decided to stay in a villa after one night here, so we asked reception to cancel cleaners, we put the “do not disturb” sign on our door, and left for 4 nights, intending to return on our last night before departure. We never told anyone at the hotel that we were leaving. We arrived back at our room a few days later, there were other guests in it. We were told at reception that we checked out, and said we were going back to England, we did not. The receptionist was so rude, I couldn’t believe how I was being spoken to. I asked her to contact the employee who said we left or a manager. She phoned someone & then said they had another room for us, I asked what had happened, & she snapped “I’ve told you what happened, I don’t know who is lying but do you want this new room or not?” I asked for my deposit back for the beach towels and gave her the receipt showing we were owed £40, she tried to give me €40, maybe a mistake.

So I book this as it stated 5 star, I would say at best it’s a 3 star property, the place is run down especially the rooms, the room I had was totally in need of a renovation, I think it’s totally wrong to advertise this hotel as 5 star as it really is not, also the dinning area for breakfast need insector gadgets and the food needs to be undercover as there was so many flies in the place. On the plus side the staff were very nice and helpful.

Slightly underwhelming, but the breakfast was quite decent, the service attentive and the pool quite nice. Downsides are the rooms (outdated, slow wifi), the overall facilities and most of all the sky bar - not the make or break on a trip like this, but it looked more like a student bar. I’d still go back - but on a much more stringent budget.

The hotel location and grounds were fabulous with all amenities at the doorstep and breakfast was fab. It is not a 4 star hotel. It is a combination hotel / apartment hotel. The building and the furniture are dated, but well maintained. The fitness center is closed (Covid). The hotel is close to the beach. The pool is nice. It is a 1.4 mile walk from the hotel to the escalators that take you down to old town where the bars and restaurants are. It is a clean and acceptable place to stay, but clearly not a luxury hotel. The staff is very friendly and quick to solve any issue.

This is an old, 70's built holiday club. I would say it is a time-share that is used as a hotel to fill in the days. It was mainly Portuguese families that come for their summer holidays. It is very run down. Our room was old, with cracked tiles and mold in the bathroom, old and worn out furniture, an air conditioner that was leaking into the room. They did fix the AC. We were out to the beach most of the time and didn't worry about the run down condition of the room. But THIS IS NOT A HOTEL. Only got cleaning every other day. Sheets changed once a week. You have to \"rent\" beach towels at 10 euros each with 5 euro deposit. Even though on hotels.com website there mentions many amenities, there is NO FUNCTIONING RESTAURANT, NO BAR, NO SPA, NO HEALTH CLUB, NO ROOM SERVICE, etc. The pros: location, big pool, view to beach and ocean, kitchen available (since no restaurant on site). But don't come with high expectations, as you will be very disappointed like we were. Since we pre-paid, we didn't think about trying to move. We just spent most of the time out of the hotel. But this place needs a complete overhall and it needs to be reclassed as apartments. BTW I don't think many of these shortcomings can be blamed on COVID as the facilities appear to be in disrepair for a long time.

We loved everything about this hotel ! Beautiful place to stay in . The views from our apartment was breathtaking! Definitely will be booking this hotel when we visit Portugal again !

The rooms are very spacious and clean. There is a tv in the living room & the kitchen had everything you need. The shower was ok, not the strongest and the temperature varied. Nice balcony & small clothes line to dry clothes.
The beds were uncomfortable but had extra pillows and blankets which was nice. As the rooms are very big and so are the corridors, noise travels a bit and can be noisey at night.
The outdoor pool is very cold & needed cleaned. There was slides so would be good for kids although the water is relatively deep in areas. Nice path straight through to the beach and restaurants.
The spa area was nice but you have to pay to use the gym. The gym is good but the C2 rowing machine was broken & old. The spa facilities are good.
There is a nice shop to get food, drink & holiday items.

Excellent location, everything ran smoothly. Very good breakfast buffet.

The Oura beach club ticked all our boxes: 2 bed apartment, resort with pool and near a beach. The apartment was huge with great sea views but the decor was tired, showers in need of repair, bed and sofa uncomfortable. The kitchen was missing quite a few utensils (ie only 3 bowls, no colander for draining pasta) and the oven too small to make pizza. It was mostly quite despite its proximity to the stip but we were disturbed by noise from a club on a couple of nights and could hear everything from the apartment above. One night the gentleman in the apartment above mistook what floor her was on and was able to gain access to our apartment with his key fob, which caused us quite a lot of alarm. (ESP as we were watching the McCann documentary at the time!) The night porter didn’t speak enough English to be able to tell us how that happened or what the hotel were doing about it. However the reception staff on another evening were very helpful when I needed to see an emergency dentist. The pool area was great but 2 of the 3 pools were too deep for our 6 year olds and as there is no life guard so you have to have your wits about you, as bigger kids think nothing of diving in despite signs saying not too.
Over all the hotel is good but not up to the 5 star standard as advertised. They are doing some refurb Which should bring everything up to a high standard.

The hotel needs updating. It is not obvious where to drive into for check in. The front lane way is full of potholes and needs to be replaced. Parking area is dirty and disorganized. Does not leave a good first impression. Lobby is clean and well appointed. Room we stayed in was an ocean front deluxe studio. It was clean, spacious and serviced daily even though they said it would only be serviced every other day. Bed was way too firm. Shower was poor. Need to install a curved rod and a shower curtain that actually stops water from soaking the floor each time. Pool area was nice and spacious. Not a problem getting a lounge chair as long as you’re there by 11AM. It gets very crowded in the afternoon, but that’s no different than most resorts. Our main disappointment was the area behind the property which is called the strip. If you’re in your late teens and looking to party hard every night , you’ll love the strip. But depending on where your room is in this property you might hear the party all night long (literally till sunrise). In our first room at the front of the hotel the noise was not an issue. Then we had to move to the back due to space limitations and the experience was completely different. Overall, the property is a good 3 star property, but unfortunately priced well above a 3-star property.

This property is not by any means 5 stars hotel. It's an old, updated smelly property.
The pool, pool area are very nice but you only have the chairs, not towels.
The beach is beautiful but that's it. There is not beach service or towels or anything. if you want a chair is a 7.50 euros per person.
Thanks to Margarhida in the front desk for all the help in changing my room. Really nice person.

The hotel is excellent. It would have been easy to simply stick a hotel in the location (more later) and then allow it to deteriorate. But they really haven't done that.

From fantastic staff at reception, as well as in the restaurant to the cleaning team which were constantly keeping things clean and tidy.

The location is to be commented on. Less than two minutes from the beach and less than five from the Albufeira strip. Plenty of restaurants and bars are well within reach without the need for any transport.

We read the reviews before going and were not expecting a 5 star hotel by any stretch of the imagination, especially considering the price. However, we were pleasantly surprised. On pulling up, I will admit the hotel looks a bit dated and it's absolutely huge (around 700 rooms). The annoying thing for us is the late check in. We had an early flight so we arrived at the hotel at 11:30am. We had tried in the weeks before to call/email the hotel about early check in (we were prepared to pay), however when we got there we couldn't check in until 4pm. I think this late check in is a bit cheeky considering the 10am check out time, though they let us check out at 11am. The rooms are definitely dated, but they are clean and spacious, and again for what you pay, they are pretty good value. We asked for an upgrade and the hotel gave us one the next day for no extra money which was nice. By far the best thing about this hotel is the pool. It is absolutely huge, refreshing, clean, lots of slides and a cool diving board. We loved sitting around the pool everyday. You can also buy snacks and drinks from the shop onsite to avoid the high prices of the bar. Vivaldo's was reasonable and nice, we particularly liked the other hotel restaurant for the evening meal. I think any more than a week here might have got a little bit boring as we were not interested in going to the strip full of hen and stag dos. The old town was marginally better but still pretty much a brits abroard place!

When you checkin on a 5-star , you have minimum expectations when it comes to amenities , services , rooms condition and also cleanness specially you are paying a high rate price to get better quality.

I am person who stayed more than 1500 nights in hotels ,I have to say that was one of the worst ever hotels I have ever stayed at , below are the details:

The checkin process was OK, the receptionist explained all details and location of everything but you start getting the shock when she starts telling you that swimming pool is closed on Sundays , Beach towels must be rented with extra money, room safe must be rented with extra charge , house keeping id done once every two days , no life guards and the list continues...

You head to the room , and you get more surprises

1- you open the door and suddenly the door hits floor because the door is not aligned with the flooring which stops the door at certain level
2- dust on the tables which must be cleaned
3- the most shocking was the amount of hair on the beds covers, come on did someone ever clean those rooms!!!
4 - finally , I decided to make coffee using their coffee machine when I was shocked with old coffee filter and coffee in the machine since more than months rotted , so disgusting.

Manager did not even care to meet and discuss that over the phone or face to face , thinking that reimbursement of breakfast will cover the issue !!!

My husband and I have been coming to this hotel for many years when it had previous owners and again now with the new owners. We will continue to return but our reasons are mainly sentimental and we do not feel that we could recommend or endorse a visit here. To start it is billed as a five star hotel on the Expedia site. There is no way that it could be classed above a 3 star. The only aspect of the property that is 5 star is the location and magnificent sea views.
The rest of the property is now becoming very tired snd needs a massive upgrade to bring it back to its former glory. A further decline in amenities is the introduction of half board meaning breakfast and lunch only. Something that very few would consider HB. So at 5.30 the restaurant closes followed at 6.30pm by the pool bar. After this time the only place on site that serves refreshments is small bar inside the hotel at the side of reception.
The staff at the hotel are, without exeception, wonderful and friendly and will do all they can to welcome you. This includes everyone from the pool staff, gardeners, waiters and maids.
As I say, my husband and I will undoubtedly return but can only advise anyone wishing to travel here to do so with their expectations not too high.

The location of the hotel is great, minutes from the beach and strip and only a 20-30min walk to the old town. We had an excellent room on the 7th floor with a great view of the pool and sea the room had recently been partially renovated but the bathroom and kitchen areas still required work as there were cracked tiles and damaged surfaces. What I found strange for a 5 star hotel was the fact that you could not have an evening meal as the restaurant closed at 5 pm.

The location of the hotel is superb. The suite we were assigned was not acceptable to us for a 28 day stay. It was not the view on the web. We paid to upgrade to a beautiful suite with a great view. The service was not 5 star in North America. We loved the view but the bed was also not 5 star by North American standards. Loved Portugal and this 25 yr old property was ideally situated for view and “ the strip”
