Fine for passing through briefly.

The hotel itself is nice enough - a bit grandiose - but the decor is dated (gold, marble, crystal etc). I had no major problems with the hotel or the staff once I was there - but in the lead up to my arrival - they did not reply to any of my emails. And the description says there is a free round trip airport shuttle, but when I called them, they said this doesn't exist, but then when I arrived, it seemed it does exist - but I could not book it because it has to be done in advance (it's still not clear to me if it exists). If they replied to my emails at all, I could have arranged things in time. The room was large but could use some extra seats - when we ordered room service there was just one chair to use to eat at the desk... not great. However, the food quality of the room service was good. The bed was extremely large, so, some people may life that too. Overall, the stay was a good overall value (since the cost was low, and I just needed one night) - but the service was pretty poor since I could not reach anyone by emailing them through hotel.com and when I called the communication was difficult. The hotel may have been impressive 20 years ago but now is just kind of an old formerly high class hotel. It's fine if you want somewhere near PVG for 1-2 nights.

I liked everything the only issue at times was the lack of English speaking staff. You must remember that you are in China. I have stayed at this hotel many times and the number of English speaking staff is improving.

Amazing, but...

It is amazing hotel. Everything is just amazing. Very Spacious Room, Comfort and Clean Bed, Nice Airconditioner, Tasty Breakfast, Even motorized curtain and screen. Only two things I feel sorry are water pressure is weak for shower. and Shower booth is too small. Bathroom is big, so they have a nice bath tub, but shower booth is very small. :)

Language barrier a big problem

I was a little disappointed that only one employee could understand English. Everytime I had needed assistance, the employee would have to find the one employee that spoke and understood English. I was also double charged for a meal purchased in the on-site restaurant and it took 6 employees to figure out the error. Other than that, the hotel is beautiful and clean. If you arrive late, do not expect to find any restaurants open close within walking distance of the hotel.

Comfortable stay

My room was clean and comfortable, so I enjoyed my stay while on a business trip recently. The staff at the hotel was also nice, some were even very friendly - and they could speak basic English, which helped me quite a bit. My only problem was getting a taxi back to the hotel after a business dinner late at night - because it is a relatively new hotel, not many drivers know the location. Overall, I had a good experience.

If you don't like big crowds and enjoy a quiet sleep, this hotel is for you. Hotel is new and clean, no funny smells, room is spacious. Takes a few minutes to walk to the nearest metro station. Shuttle to and from the airport and Disney park is available but you need to call 24 hrs ahead to make a reservation, and they only run limited schedules. However, you can line up for a taxi from the airport, which cost you about 80RMB.

Great hotel, ok service

Hotel itself is amazing, huge rooms, very clean and everything you need for a business trip (i.e. USB chargers, laptop size safe and sockets for UK appliances). As long as you don't need anything else and you're only there for the stay and a good breakfast, then this is perfect. But if you have any questions and you don't speak Chinese then nobody will be able to help as I found only 2 people amongst there whole staff who speaks a little bit English. Also the Executive lounge is now closed and you can order a dish in the lobby lounge instead, which is not the same as the lounge used to be. Also the metro only runs until 10pm and it's very difficult to get a taxi unless you are able to use a Chinese taxi app.

Nicest Room in Shanghai

This is an amazing property. 2 city blocks from train that takes you anywhere yet close to airport (90 cyn or $7usd). The breakfast bufffet was decent if not good but in contrast to the elegant room it could be improved. I only mention this because the SAWW BOutique Hotel near the Bund is smaller and not as fancy and they had a superior breakfast and location.

Hotel is very close to metro line 2 what links direct to main downtown area \"bund\" but also to the airport.
The spa offers good relaxing massages for reasonable prices.

it's ok for a suburban hotel

I arrived at 11pm and was expecting a hassle-free check in, however was presented with a reception packed with only one member of staff attending. I was also expecting the staff at check-in would speak English but this wasn't the case. Room was spacious but smelled like it had been closed for a long time. Water wasn't hot enough so couldn't shower/bath properly. I was also supposed to have a welcome drink that never happened. So overall wouldn't stay here again.

Very good hotel about 20 minutes from airport. Staff great.

I've scored it low because the hotel at this time of year switches the air conditioning off centrally for all rooms to save money. The room was too hot and made sleeping difficult. 5 star hotels shouldn't cut cost corners.

If taking the metro to the hotel, you need to walk of around 10 -12 minutes from the metro called Tangzhen to the destination, so you should figure out the approachability of the metro. Of coz, the overall environment is very good. The breakfast is paid separately.

We enjoyed a lot staying in this hotel, great hotel staff very helpful, room was not very clean compared to the quality of the hotel, not enough air conditioning, I sweat quite a bit with spring weather, hope the hotel could improve it. Other than that great quality hotel, I would definitely recommend this hotel to my friends.

Took a chance and am really happy we did!

Stayed here for 3 weeks - got a lovely room, with an interesting view. Hotel sorted any problems very quickly and effectively, and overall it's just a really nice place to stay, with the added bonus of it being more in the area I needed for work vs. staying \"downtown\". Would definitely stay here again!

not happy about this stay

I picked this hotel because it was close to Pudong Airport. The staff does not speak English fluently even though the \"try\" their best . Food is not the most friendly for western travelers. The worst think was the air conditioner in the room which was a heater more than A/C . We checked in late al night so changing rooms after you were in bed was not appealing . There was no window to open either . Very bad night ...

Hotel facilities are excellent but staff have difficulty with English. Plus side free airport transfers but only run at certain times otherwise its a taxi. Taxi journey is 20 mins. nearest subway is 10 mins walk away on line 2 which means you can pick up the Maglev

I'd not stay for a layover

I stayed here for an overnight layover because it looked like it's close to the airport and offers an airport shuttle. DO NOT RELY ON AIRPORT SHUTTLE. I should've read more reviews. They had couple shuttles per day including 6am and 9am shuttle to the airport, and 8pm pick up from the airport. Everything needs to be arranged prior to arrival. I also found out that no one accepts Visa here, so you have to exchange at the airport. Thankfully this hotel had an exchange machine, so I was able to exchange some cash to take a taxi to the airport. It was about 10 dollars and took solid 30minutes without traffic.

Room was spacious and clean.

I think this hotel is a 5 star hotel at 3 star prices. It is fairly new and the area isn’t completely developed. I am pretty sure the prices will rise once it is. Free airport transportation. Fitness center is amazing. It is one of the best in Shanghai.

Nice hotel in Pudong area

I stayed in this hotel for 7 nights on a business trip. It´s a 20 minutes drive Pudong airport and a 15 minutes drive to Shanghai Expo Center. It´s far away from downtown and main tourist attractions but that wasn´t important because my trip was for business purposes and taxi service is not expensive. It´s also a very good rate compared to very high price hotels near the Bund. The hotel is very luxurious and well decorated. Lots of space, high technology and amenities in the room. The universal plug-in were awesome so no need for adapter to connect cel phone, tablet or laptop. The breakfast was delicious and has both Chinese and International food variety. The staff was very kind but few of them spoke good English so that would be something to improve. Despite of that they tried their best to help. Very convenient free shuttle to Pudong Airport.

30min cab ride from Pudong Airport, cost 126 RMB. Hotel has a free shuttle but limited to certain times, confirm ahead. Hotel is connected to a Will's gym within basement so equipment is quite good. Japanese restaurant within hotel below average. Staff are nice but food not great. Wifi internet was slow but besides that, room was clean, spacious and comfortable. Enjoyed stay, will come back.

Nice hotel for short layover.

The hotel is about 25 minute ride from pudong airport. Negotiating taxi rate is a process. The hotel airport shuttle is basically non existant. It's a joke so just plan to arrange your own transport to/from. The air condition did not work in the room, so very warm and uncomfortable. The breakfast was ok, not great. The room was spacious and the hotel is beautiful.

I took a black taxi to the hotel and lost my phone inside. The staff went above an beyond to help me recover my phone. Bed was good, room was great, breakfast buffet was outstanding. Age dinner there twice it was good. I am going back in 3 weeks.

This was my second time to check in this hotel. Hotel is located outside of town area, which it requires to walk 15mins to the nearest Metro station. The checkin lady at the reception was not too friendly, with no smile through out the check in process. She gives me a room 1205 which we were previously in and the room air condition is out of order (only hot air not cold air), we refused to take it and she was then given another room 1020. She also didn't give us the welcome drink coupon which we need to ask her to provide them.

The room at 1020 is smaller than the one we previously stayed (1205), but we didn't bother to call and ask for an exchange as we were all too tired after the Disneyland. And the same problem for this room which the air condition isn't functioning. I rang for a fan but been told it is not available.

very spacious room. Staff service is very good. The happy hour at 530 is a good deal but the food at least the western menu is not very good. Have not checked the Japanese or chinese restaurant or outside facility. Quite neighborhood. hotel gives shuttle to and fro airport and pay taxi if shuttle cannot be arranged. Beware of taxi gauging price. It should cost no more than 100 RBM. A 15 mn drive to airport.

DO NOT STAY! FALSE ADVERTISEMENT

The staff here is rude and inconsiderate. I e-mailed them (4 times) more than a week before my arrival to request an airport pick up. However, the Expedia site says free shuttle from airport to hotel. What you don't see is the \"request\" that needs to be made, which I did. However, they did not reply back and even Expedia called them a week before my flight, and they took the information down. When I arrived, I called them and they let me know there would be a shuttle, in over an hour (wait time). The they said, you pay for a taxi, and we will pay later. When I told the taxi driver that the hotel would pay, he called, and the hotel staff said I could not take that \"type of taxi\".. After two hours, I finally took the right kind, and when I requested that I would just take the shuttle (since so much time had passed), they negated my request and said, \"NO\" MORE SHUTTLE\". Then they laughed at my frustration. Very rude. I finally made it to the hotel, and the staff and hotel manager said that shuttle would take me to the airport in the morning at 9:00. This never happened. It is false advertisement!! Rude staff and really crappy area. My room faced a demolished building... looked like Shanghai was crumbling. I would not stay here again.

Same hotel would cost you a lot more in downtown Shanghai. Everything at Royal Centuty is nice, and the room was big. Complementary breakfast was tasty, with lots of choices. The only problem is the shuttle bus runs too few times from the hotel to the airport. There's no shuttles between 7am-10am. Between Pudong Airport and the hotel, taxi will cost you about RMB80. (US$1 = RMB6.9.) From hotel to Pudong, taxis want RMB100. To downtown Shanghai from hotel, taxi will set you back about RMB120 each way.

Great Place But Make Sure To Arrange for Transport

I would have given this hotel an excellent rating but with the problems with the so called \"shuttle service\" it did not happen. The hotel was indeed spacious and well maintained, but the receptionist failed to see that if you post something on your hotel site, you need to make good of it and not just \"laugh\" about it. The man hotel manager understood this and was very professional, so what I am saying is that if transportation is not a deal breaker, please select this hotel, if it is a deal breaker, find another one.

This is where I'll stay whenever in Shanghai

Very pleased with this hotel. Didn't realize they also have another property The Royal International Hotel which I also happen to like and where I've stayed often. This hotel is a little further from Pudong but that's not really a big issue - both properties are fairly conveniently located near to the airport. I'll definitely stay here again as I pass through Shanghai pretty frequently. Have also informed my overseas customers about this hotel so they should also be staying there when in Shanghai.

Rude check in, paid for 2 breakfast with room had to argue every morning with desk because they would only mark one.

Room was just slightly cooler than the surface of the sun, even with tstat set to 16, never go under 28.

Breakfast was not good, selection was good, just the food was bland

Gym doesn't open until like 8:00am? Really? I will say by far, the nicest gym I have ever used in a hotel.

good hotel. clean. soft bed. breakfast buffet is medium (not hot. many food insufficient cooking. buffet good for Chinese local, but not for foreigner . can be 5 star if they add a little more choice. .., all staff is very good and helpful. To improve: to few shuttle to airport (delay of 3h between departure is not acceptable for \"international \" hotel.) we must take taxi.

Good Hotel - Convenient location

In general, I was pleased with the hotel and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. Reasonable rates, clean, and well located. My only complaints are that the TV had bad static which made watching CNN or the movie channel next to impossible. My room was a smoking room, which I didn't want. The smoke smell wasn't too bad but it wasn't ideal. If I was staying more than one night I would have requested a different room. But overall, I was satisfied and would stay there again.

Great food and convenient shuttle to airport

This is definitely a very nice hotel, room is big though design is just so so. I love the buffet breakfast it has a lot of choices and all the food are fresh and taste great. The hotel also provide free shuttle to Pudong airport which is a big plus.

Nice Hotel Close to the Shanghai Pudong Airport

The hotel is nice with big rooms and reason price. I stayed here for a night to catch the flight next afternoon. The airport says it has shuttle service but this is misleading as the shuttle only had limited times, 6am, 7am and 10am. Our flight to Singapore was at 2.30pm, so we caught a taxi which cost 100 RMB. I would stay here again as I had a pleasant stay.

The hotel staff and breakfast buffet are excellent! My room was big and comfortable. Not close to Pudong airport and Metro closes by 10pm. Early arrival and departure can get hotel shuttle.

Very luxurious hotel but...

There is no ATM that could use visa in the hotel. Breakfast food is overpriced and frankly low quality, suitable for 2 star hotel. Hotel description said in-room massage, but would not provide that service.
