The services was pathetic. Most of the area was booked for private parties so we couldn't go anywhere. It was like staying in a hotel and not resort. Also, during checkout they took more amount from us. When I checked it, and asked for a refund, they said they have initiated the refund. But I never got it back. They are just thiefs who show you the correct bill. But in final bill which they don't show you they add many bills twice.

DO NOT BOOK THIS PROPERTY - NOT EVEN MATCH 2 star STANDARD.
Recently stayed here with family for 2 days. To start with no staff to help in checkin process or luggage, have to ask multiple times. Then, room allocated was a pathetic dirty room with no view -- unless they consider teenshade as a view. Nothing, happened even after complaint, just the false promise to get the room changed next day (I already arrived in evening, then to pack luggage next morning doesnt make sense at all). Cherry on the cake was -- TV not working, kettle not working, for room service u have to wait for hours for just getting water refill. Bathroom drains were blocked. And, best part they serve in room food in disposable like pizza delivery which though was just coming from one floor below but was served cold with very high price.

I have stayed in other Sterling properties during same trip as well in past, they are good but this property definetly has some issue so pls refrain from booking this unless u want to spoil ur holiday.

Location is good. Relationship manger started with his sales pitch even before I had checked in. Despite requesting to take this up later as I was tired, he continued to keep pitching.
Cleanliness wasn't great and despite having a Premium suite the room had no view. Overall no value for money

Access road is really bad, Hot water is not available for the second person, need to wait 25 minutes to get enough hot water for the next person. All glasses for drinking water had a faint smell of kerosene.
Great location, superb views, excellent breakfast and dinner buffet.

The choice of room provided to us was very average for the pricing. After spending 10k for a night we expect a balcony at the least. The room was big though. The view from the room was not that great. The kitchen closes at 3 pm with limited food options, taste wasn't great either.

A mixed bag of good, bad and ugly

The stay was a mixed bag really. While the location of the resort is excellent, the roads leading up to the resort are terrible. The same goes for the staff, a mixed bag. Some staff members were very kind and courteous while others were not. There were 3 of us staying in your privilege suite and I called in to request an additional duvet 3 times. The duvet was not provided and the Housekeeping, as well as the front desk, stopped answering calls from my room. Now, this behaviour will ensure that I do not ever come back despite a few good people working in your resort who were very kind and helpful throughout our stay.

Access road to the property was horrible and similar was the parking situation. It took more than 45 minutes to get my car out.
Room charges were exorbitant. The mattress was 'spring type' and hurt the back. Floor boards were squeaky.
Staff was very helpful, especially the duty manager Mr. Arun. Food quality was great with a lot of variety.

The stay was not comfortable at all.
1. The rooms given to us didn't had a tea kettle and the room service didn't delivery tea as they were short of staff.
2. Got the TV working after multiple complaints.
3. Request for room heater was fulfilled after full 24 hrs of request
4. And to make the things ever more terrible, the security guard opened the side door of the room and came into our room at 11pm without even knocking or informing us. Ridiculous.. and to top it all answer given was that they were just checking the door lock

Crowded Ooty

Ooty town and the surrounding slopes (other than tea gardens) are littered with plastic and garbage. Nightmare traffic, poor road maintenance, and surging crowds - not what you expect at a getaway hill destination.

Fern Hill resort was mixed - crowded, little noisy. The facility is clean, but needs better maintenance. The plumbing needs an upgrade, the TV didn't work, the window stays were broken. The espresso machine was not working for many days.

Average Hotel Experience

A very average stay to sum it up.

Property - A very nice property far removed from the bustle of the city. Just about the only plus I must say.

Rooms - Rooms are of decent size with good views. But upon checking-in I was told that the Hotel does not provide any toiletries. When I requested for Soaps, Shampoos etc., I was told to use the Shower gel instead. They finally provided me with the items after a lot of haggling. Also, special mention is to be made regarding the soiled and dirty linen/towels that they provided even after repeated complaints.

Dining & Restaurant - The quality of food is below par. The breakfast buffet is barely passable and there aren't a lot of options to go A la carte even at dinner time. The dishes are inconsistent. Stayed there for a week and I ordered mutton dishes(Indian) on most of the days and at times I was served a different dish on different days even though I ordered the exact same Mutton Masala. It was also amusing to be told by different waiters that mutton was unavailable on some occasions. They would somehow oblige to check with the chef after I inform them that I did have mutton the previous day. Then there are the live counters that have people apologizing that they would try to make a dosa when you ask for one. Wonder why inexperienced chefs are preparing food that they aren't comfortable with. Service was commendable though and a few of the waiters like Radhakrishnan, Ramesh provided excellent service.

I would have been happy to give a 5 star!

An excellent property and I think it is one of the best locations in Ooty. Hotel staff are courteous. I would have been very happy to give a 5 start to this hotel. But, they need to improve in their house keeping and check the room appliances throughly before allotting it to the guest. The toilet flush went bad twice, the room heater stopped working on the first day. Yes, the staff attended to those complaints. But, on holiday, who would like to register complaints early in the morning that the flush stopped working, that too twice within a period of 4 days!? In spite of this, I liked the place very much, its location, serene beauty of wide valley that one can enjoy from the window also.

We were in Ooty for three nights and four days. Wanted to stay at the Sterling close to race course, but booked Fern Hill by mistake. But there was not much to regret. In fact it worked out great. We were able to take the cabs (arranged by Sterling) to the city as well as stay away from the pollution of Ooty at night. This place is more suited for families with kids/small children. We went during christmas 2015 and the noise of the kids kept us awake for longer than we wanted. Definitely recommend for family with kids.
Not recommended for business travelers (no wifi in the room and distance from the city); not recommended for couples without kids.

Hell of a road to get to heaven

I thoroughly enjoyed the hotel but had a bad time reaching the hotel. Firstly it is hard to find the hotel then had a hard time getting to it through the worst roads in ooty. Finally when you reach the hotel, its like reaching heaven, broad roads, ample parking, lovely staff, beautiful rooms n view, good food n an overall lovely experience.

Fernhill is a nice hotel, enjoyed my stay there. Couple of points:
1. NO lifts: there are no lifts in the hotel. If you specific requirements plan accordingly.
2. Breakfast in Fern restaurant is quite good, but keep an eye on your table. You may find somebody else sitting there, once you came back from buffet.
3. Staff is quite friendly and very helpful.

Overall, I had a very pleasant stay there.

Fern Hill - a Night Mare

Among other Sterling properties - Fern hill stay is a night mare and i had a terrible experience. The property, Landscaping, Infrastructure are good but the main thing hospitality is missing. From the day of check in i had to fight for each and every item. The reception executives not even know the room they allocated are good to check in and the itenary shown in the website are not present in the room. You have call house keeping and they will say very politely that they will address your concern but they will never turn. There time to respond is minimum 3 hrs and to provide all the itenary as per my booking took 2 days for them. Even after i taken up with their head housekeeping and facility. I did repeated complaints on the poor service i got, but no body seems to be bothered. If you really feel hospitality and service is important. Then Fern hill is not the right fit. I will never visit again - same I mentioned clearly in my feedback form.

The place is under renovation. I was allocated a room on 2nd flr with an infant(10mnth). The building has no elevators. The food is just average however the price is not so. Rooms are decent. Good staff but service is a bit slow.

Overall it can be avoided if you have alternates. At least till it is completely renovated.

I visited the club Mahindra after staying here and it was a much better experience there.

On reaching we found that the room has no view and overlooks a courtyard. When I asked for a room with a view, the clerk (I'm not giving her name) very curtly (bordering on the rude) said that they never promised a view and flatly refused. The bell boy was helpful, but the other room was a duplex and would take an hour to be ready. We settled for the courtyard view. There was a big noisy group all over the restaurant at night and singing Karaoke at the loudest (some good singing and much off-key singing). Food took an hour to come. But the view from the restaurant in the morning and the reasonable Breakfast half made up for the cold reception, but I'd say, too expensive for what we got.

Good option, Great scenic view warm hospitablity.

If u r looking 4a decent stay option....fern hill is the right choice.the rooms promises a beautiful view of the city.....the comfort level is great....the staff is warm and hospitable.
The only negative is the proximity from the main city......around 8kms....but if u plan to drive down in ur own vehicle....,then shouldn't b an issue.
To sum up it is the value 4 money deal.

Our stay was largely pleasant except for minor hiccups -the key/card given to us did not work and we were on the 2nd floor (there is no lift yet in the resort) -so that made coming up/down tedious. The staff was courteous and well-behaved. The view is fantastic from the resort -the food (a la carte) was much better than the buffet.

Best Property in OOTY to enjoy :)

The place is slightly off road, especially if you are reaching there using Google navigation. The resort is on a hill with excellent scenic view and lot of greenery. Stay was made very comfortable by their staff. Great food options. Variety of dishes was available.

Overall the Resort was one of the best parts of our stay, and we will like to return there soon.

Fern Hill is undoubtedly the best Property in OOTY to enjoy.

My Overall Experience was great.

Bad Experience

Had booked 4 junior suites - was allotted 4 rooms, each of a different category. While two rooms were good, two others were shabby and uninhabitable. Had to wait for 3 hrs before being allotted rooms. Reception staff was rude and un-co-operative. The hotel sufferred from continuous power outages and most of the evening was spent sitting in the open, in darkness. Entertainment facilities were unavailable, food was average.

Excellent food. Good location and a nice hotel. Service was very good and very courteous staff. Good housekeeping. Two things to bear in mind...the approach (last 0.5 kms) is very bad...very narrow broken road. There is an issue of power cuts with no backup....atleast in our suite there was no power backup.

it took them more than 15 hours to fix reported problems.

worst of all... i ordered the same dish two time on different days and surprisingly the preparation was totally different from what i was served earlier.. leave the taste even the color of the dish was different . when i asked they arrogantly told me that the chef was different.

wont go there again and would not even recommend others to visit this place.

Great location but...

The hotel can be amazing. I guess the management realizes that and hence the renovation. Lots of open space and nice view of the hills. We were put up in an older room for the first night and we were extremely disappointed. On request, we were shifted to a renovated one the next morning and it was up to expectations. Service takes time but the staff is courteous. Breakfast was great. Overall a nice stay.
