This property was in a great location! It is right off the Amstel River and the street on the opposite block has a tram, great restaurants, shops, a market, everything you need. Metro is a short walk. It is right off the canal and felt like a home for us. Had everything we needed, including laundry and a second half bath in our space. Would stay here again

If you want to experience what it is like to live in Amsterdam this is the perfect place to stay. It’s more of an apartment than hotel style. So much room and loved the small kitchen area. So much better than the typical hotel stay. Close to all attractions with everything in easy walking distance but in a very quiet neighborhood. I would definitely stay here again. The only thing to consider is that it has every narrow stairs so suitcases can be a challenge but this would not stop me from staying again. We loved every minute and felt like we were at home.

We had a few issues with this property as we initially searched and booked because king bed was listed on the property details we booked. It had a queen and when I texted the hotel, they said all their rooms have queen beds despite the listing saying otherwise. Other issues we had - the bathroom had a terrible mold smell, likely from all the mold growing along the walls in the shower - not ideal. We had to keep the door shut all the time to prevent the whole place from smelling like mold. There were stains on the bath and bedroom curtains, no trash bag, stains on the walls in the bedroom. Communication with the staff was great otherwise but for the price, I certainly expected better.

Location was great, easy to walk everywhere and access shops, metro, trams, etc. Great food and bars nearby.

The check-in process was incredibly disorganized and frustrating from the start. I received an email instructing us to meet at the Canal Suites at address 818. After taking an Uber from the airport, we arrived late at night in the freezing cold and dark—only to find no one there. We knocked on multiple doors with no response.

When I called the number in the confirmation email, I was told we first needed to go to a separate hotel location to pick up the keys, then return to the apartment. This required a 10-minute walk in freezing rain while carrying five pieces of luggage. No transportation was offered, and after finally getting the keys, we had to Uber back and wait outside again. The email communication was misleading, as it clearly directed us to check in at the apartment rather than the hotel. This process needs to be much better organized. If this continues to be the process, they should offer transportation between the sites.

Once inside, the apartment itself was nice, clean, and well-equipped. The location was also great and easy to navigate, which made us hopeful the rest of our stay would be enjoyable. Unfortunately, two days later, we had a much more serious issue.

After a long day out, we returned to the apartment around 9:30 PM and were unable to get in because both key cards stopped working (door battery was dead). We called the hotel and were told to come to the office, forcing us to walk again in freezing rain and hail.

Great location, nice to have a kitchen and laundry in suite! Check-in was strange, check in ans ant a different site and the website and booking confirmation said there was a free ride/taxi/shuttle but was told that that wasn’t the case upon arrival. Thankfully, they honoured what was written and did provide us with a taxi. Not a big deal but something to keep in mind. Appliances are not the best and felt like we had to fight with them. The laundry machine worked fine (as Canadians we had to get used to how many hours it took and the fact that it’s one machine!) but the microwave/oven and dishwasher was very frustrating to figure out how to use it. Some sort of guide would be helpful for those of us who don’t have the same very unique machines. The room was nice and mostly clean except the bathroom which seemed to have some serious moisture issues with some mold and water damage very clearly visible. We also had a dirty shower curtain when we arrived and had to email/call to get it replaced. Super prompt and friendly! The tub/shower has a draining issue and we had to pull up the metal stopper and set it to the side to allow it to drain. Otherwise this was a great spot to stay super central, close to transit and grocery stores, and some iconic locations and art. We just wish it was amazing and not just good!

Mostly everything needed to live, some things that were missing was stuff like a kitchen towel, cupboard for storing food. Sofa looks good but wasnt that comfortable. There were a few smaller faults, like some electrical socets not being attached properly and some knifes were missing. But after contacting the hotel, they came by and had a look and fixed what they could and also gave me a complementary bottle of cava.
All in all, nice place in a nice area that makes it feel like you're almost a local.

DO NOT STAY HERE. My family was robbed by the hotel cleaning staff on the third of nine nights staying at their suite located in a very nice neighborhood. We filed a police report and suspiciously they say their cameras were stolen the day of the theft at 6:10pm. However, on the day of the theft I showed the police the functional cameras at 10:35pm when they arrived to take a statement and file a report. I would stay clear from this hotel and all its properties. The hotel staff only refunded 3 nights to what they say is a courtesy and did NOTHING about the $6000 worth of jewelry and electronics stolen.

The location of the property was great with all sorts of amenities and entertainment within walking distance. The check-in was a less than memorable process. During the check in the cleck took a call, which sounded like a personal call, and just left us standing. Then she asked if I wanted to set up my credit information for the property deposit and I said yes. She barely started the process and then decided to dismiss us and said we could do it later when the suite was ready for checking. Minutes later she emailed me the credit deposit form to complete. It felt like she just wasn't interested in doing it. When got to the suite we discovered bugs in the bath tub, towels that smelled mildewy, dishwasher had a very off putting, and hair dryer was so sticky we were unable to clean it off. House keeping is every 3 days which is fine. However we were told of we needed any extra things dropped off to either call or email the reception. I called and asked that house keeping leave extra coffee when they came as we only had 6 when we arrived and ran out because they actually did not come until the 4th day. When they did come they left 4 pods 2 less than what we initially started with. If house keeping comes every 3 days, supposedly, and 2 people are staying in the suite you would need a minimum of 6 pods for each person to have one cup of coffee a day. We gave up and bought instant coffee instead only to discover the kettle provided in the suite was in a unusable state.

I loved the neighborhood surrounding Amsterdam Canal Suites. It was right on a canal, quiet, and dining and museums were a walkable distance. We fell in love with Bistro Bonjeur located just down the street. The suite was clean and comfortable. Service was spotty. They didn’t take the dirty towels and one day only brought one clean bathtowel and no fresh hand towels. There were no dish towels or potholders in the kitchen and the freezer compartment was full of ice that had melted together, rendering the compartment unusable. I appreciated the laundry center with detailed instructions in English for use. I would have appreciated the same for the dishwasher. We ran it twice and the soap never released.

But there were a few omissions that made the catering a little more tricky, such as a shortage of glasses and mugs, no toaster. We had power cut and a flood that were dealt with quickly by the owner. overall we just felt there were a few homely touches missing that would have made it 5 stars...

The Amsterdam Canal suites are a great way to feel like you have your own apartment in the city. We found the bed and furniture very comfortable. Closing the blinds at night made for peaceful rest as long as the people above you are not walking around. Footsteps and furniture moving on the floor are noticeable from above if you are just trying for silence. We did not hear other sounds. Kitchen has needed equipment for preparing simple meals. TV and Internet were sufficient to downtime entertainment. We had some issues with cleanliness of the suite, but we were able to work with management to address timely. Shower is hot and water pressure good. We were happy with the location and it made for easy exploration of the city. Nearby restaurants, bakeries and grocery shopping were great.

Parking is absolutely horrendous in Amsterdam. As a first time visitor - this cannot be expressed highly enough. Do not rent a car unless absolutely necessary. If you must rent a car - have a parking plan in place before you arrive.

Excellent location: outside the more intensely 'touristy' areas but still a short walk to lots of museums, shops, and dining options. The women at the front desk were friendly and helpful and allowed both myself and my travelling companions to check in a bit early (since we arrived on early flights.) One of them even brought my companions' keys over so they wouldn't have to go back to the hotel to pick them up (note that the hotel, where check-in takes place, and the suites are about a 10-15 minute walk away from each other, but they provide a taxi after check-in, so you don't have to haul your baggage any further!) Beds were very comfortable and the kitchens were very well equipped so we didn't have to eat out every meal.

However, I was very disappointed with housekeeping services. We understood that housekeeping is not done everyday for the suites, but we stayed for nine days and housekeeping only came once, and only after we asked for it. They didn't do any cleaning or vacuuming, didn't change the beds (which was requested), didn't remove dirty towels/leave fresh ones (in fact, I found the last stay's dirty towels in my room), and it's clear that some things (the bathtub, cupboard doors, etc.) don't really get cleaned at all (or at least not very often). For the cost, I definitely expected a higher standard of housekeeping.

Canal Suites Amsterdam was even better than we expected. Gorgeous layout of the apartment style suite, comfortable bed, TV equipped with Netflix, functional kitchenette, good wifi, and most importantly a very walkable neighbourhood with everything you need, nice and quiet but just a short walk away from multiple types of public transportation and a bustling bar and club area. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Amsterdam and would come back again.

Very cute space in an excellent location, well-appointed with fully functional kitchen. That said, there were a bunch of small issues that made this a four-star review and not a five. Flat instead of fitted sheet on the mattress meant my side kept coming untucked every night, and I'd find I was sleeping on the mattress pad. Air circulation isn't great, and the free-standing AC unit blows cold out the front and hot out the back, meaning if the kitchen is cool, the living room is hot. Better to use the windows and the fan setting. No instructions for guests on how to use the oven/micro or the dishwasher so you're left to puzzle it out on your own. Had to call more than once to get coffee supply refills - the machine in the room used different size pods than what we could get in the grocery. Being off site from main property means no on-site staff, so if anything is needed after hours (including a lock-out assist) you need to go to the main hotel several blocks away, since the solo staffer can't leave the property.
Anyhow, all of these add up to minor annoyances in what was a great stay. They say location, location, location, and being able to look out the front window of a first-floor walkup onto the canal, the boats, the bridge, and the Amstel, as well as the H*ART museum and opera house on the other side was priceless, as was being able to hit Bakkerij Verhagen for pastry, bread, and coffee/OJ in the mornings (just at the other end of the block!).

Pictures presented online looked nothing like the unit itself, we were stuck in a basement level room that was dingy and needing maintenance. The carpets were filthy, the AC didn’t work, there is mold in the bathroom, and when I reached out about the A/C and to mention the room looked nothing like the expectations that were set, the man literally told me “I don’t know what you want me to do about it”. Told me to email the property. Management never returned my email about these issues. Housekeeping just drops off towels. The location is great, but I would have got a hotel had I known the condition of the place. I feel like I got bait and switched.

The Good:
1) Great location !! 4 tram stops from Centraal Station ! Suite is right on the canal system ! Wonderful old home with lots of history, I'm sure. Great restaurants & supermarkets near by. Great bakery at the corner up the street.
2) Very attentive staff. Any issues, they were on top of it. You can contact them any hour of the day.
3) Quiet neighborhood at night. You can hear the early morning birds as you wake in the morning. Feels like Heaven on earth.
4) The Dutch are very kind & classy people.

The Not So Good:
1) Stairs, stairs & more stairs. Because the homes in Amsterdam are narrow & very tall , there are a lot of stairs. This suite is definitely not for older people , or any people with mobility issues.
2) Upkeep in the suite could be better. The frying pan supplied in the kitchen was worn & heavily stained. There was a nasty clog in the shower/ bathtub. Drained very, very slowly. Kitchen cabinet door almost caas I am not a person that dwells on the imperfections.

Overall a very good experience ! Would do it again in a heart beat.

So glad we ended up here! We visited Amsterdam for the first time to celebrate our 25th anniversary. After reading guide books, watching travel videos, and comparing properties, we finally settled on this one and it turned out to be a great decision. Amsterdam is a super busy city. The city center (Dam Square) is always flowing with so many bicycles, tourists, street trolleys, and boat tours. This property is about a 15 minute walk or 5 minute trolley ride away but is still in the heart of the canals. The particular canal it is on is very quiet but is completely beautiful. There are bakeries, restaurants and a trolley stop 100 yards away but it is still peaceful compared to the rest of the city. The buildings in Amsterdam are narrow and tall. We stayed in apartment 6 which is on the top floor. It does requires three flights of narrow, steep steps but that's the way most buildings are in the Netherlands. We LOVED coming back to the room every evening. It had tall vaulted ceilings, a cool european style bathroom, a tiny clothes washer/dryer, and a functional kitchenette. But the view! There is a sitting room with a double window that looks out of the canal and nearby river. Every night, we opened the window and enjoyed the fresh air and amazing scene below. Seriously, I don't think you'd find a better spot if you're wanting something convenient, comfortable, quiet and scenic. If you're OK with a few steps to climb, I think you'll dig this place.

Wonderful stay in AMS

The building and unit are lovely with a pretty view. The staff was outstanding and very responsive and welcoming. They addressed our questions very quickly. We reserved a 9 night stay and it was nice to have cleaning service every 3 days. Unfortunately we had to cut our stay short by 2 nights due to a family emergency and there was no available credit. The location was great. They should probably list that there are 47 steps to reach the flat. The only suggestion I have is that it would be nice if the kitchen was equipped with towels, pot holder and a washcloth. Also, easy instructions, like they have for the washer/dryer, for the oven, in English, would have been helpful.

Good stay at Amsterdam Canal hotel

The location was excellent.
The size of the room big which suit my need.
The bed is so comfortable
My flight took 7 hours to arrive to Amsterdam and after this long time, the check in was in different area than the hotel which made me feel so tired.
The cleaning service should be daily not every three days.
The boiler was so dirty from inside.

Loved the location! So close to Rembrandt square and food shopping, dining etc. the building was great. Beds comfortable but the cleaning was definitely lacking! The floor was very dirty and no way to clean it. No broom or any cleaning supplies were there. Had to buy my own paper towels and dish soap. They did come with new towels and picked up the kitchen but you would think they would clean the floors while there especially when there is a pile of dirt that I swept up with a paper into a pile but they didn’t. I would stay there again but would ask for a thorough cleaning. Also there is No where to put your clothes. Only one small wardrobe with one tiny shelf and 4 hangers on it. It was fine, we just lived out of our suitcase but the dirty dusty floor was definitely kinda gross. Everything else was good.

Fabulous apartment. I am a long term single traveler. So good there is washing machine which I can clean my clothes for my next destination before finishing Amsterdam. Also, I can cook myself breakfast and lunch to save some cost of eating out. Albert Heijn (supermarket) is 5 mins from the apartment which make it very convenience for grocery shopping. There is a flower shop at the corner as well. I can buy some flowers for the apartment as I stayed there for 9 nights and always good to have some fresh flowers in the house especially when I was in Amsterdam.

Down side:
- construction site next building. Do not expect to wake up late from Monday to Friday
- close to the canal which provide fantastic scenery (so romantic both day and night) but also give you flies and mosquito

The property is well situated on Keisersgracht near to the Amstel river. It is spacious, especially the main living room, and well equipped. The main room has French windows which look out over a shared square of gardens to the rear which is a very pleasant and quiet outlook. The beds are extremely comfortable and the bathroom very well equipped with a good combined bath and overhead shower. The kitchen has adequate glasses and crockery etc for 4 people. The stairs up to this first floor apartment are steep but bound to be so: that is the nature of canal houses in Amsterdam. The internal stairs up to the bedrooms are also steep, in this case a spiral staircase so this is not a good property for anyone with mobility issues. The furniture in the living room is comfortable and stylish. We found the staff to be extremely responsive and helpful both before and during our stay. The location of the property is wonderful: given the size of Amsterdam all places of interest are in easy walking distance. the trams and metro are excellent if needed.

The Apartments have steep stairs. There is no hotel staff to carry your luggage. We specially had requested help to carry our luggage. After lot of begging the hotel staff came to help. The whole attitude of the staff was disappointing. Else, the location is good. The rooms are spacious.

Stayed 4 nights at the end of April in the Rooftop Apartment on the 2nd floor.

Let's start with the positives:
- Great location. Everything, including Dam Square is a short walk or a short metro ride away. The Metro station (Waterlooplein) is also a 4 min walk from the apartment. De Pijp and other hip neighborhoods are also close by.
- Room/ Apartment - The Size is great. In Amsterdam, where hotel rooms are tiny and expensive, this is a great alternative. The apartment was about 500 sq ft.
- Furniture/ Set up - Overall the Furniture/ set up was pretty nice

The Negatives:
- It's on the 2nd floor and the building doesn't have an elevator. So if you're travelling with a lot of luggage, you're going to have to lug it up yourself.
- Check-in: The check in happens at a different location (Canal hotel) which is owned by the same group. It's about 0.5 miles from the Suites. The hotel will provide you a cab though to get to the Suites after check in.
- Deposit: They charge you a 500 Euro deposit while checking in. Note that this is not a *hold* on your credit card but an actual charge. They will refund it but depending on how the FX situation works, you will have to cough up the transaction fees and any negative changes in Conversion rates.
- Construction next door - The Construction start at around 9 am on weekdays. So, if you wanted to sleep in, that's mostly out of the question.
- Other minor details - the apartment has a washing machine but no detergent.

Construction noise ruins the charm.

Great location, canal views, spacious room, but the construction noise make impossible to enjoy it.
Waking up by several workers hammering behind the wall is not a good start of vacation. For folks, who are out all day, it is irrelevant. I like to read a book on a rainy day after a museum visit, but hammering, drilling, etc. ruined my stay. The construction in the adjoining house started in summer and will go for many months.
