Great little unit, comfy beds, access to an over in the campsite kitchen, but there’s a stove, microwave, kettle and toaster with a full set of dishes in the room. Pool was so much. For the kids, and the hot pools were great. We’ll be back!

The hot tub was wonderfully therapeutic. The grounds were clean and well maintained. Star gazing was premium with minimal light interference. Would be nice if they turned off the exterior cabin lights or use diffuse lightfound light Iat night for better star gazing ! Lovely place will stay again. Very spacious slots!

Really unimpressed with this property. In need of a deep clean and renovation. Also disappointed in the staff’s interaction with us upon check-in. We had a miscommunication in reserving their private pool, and despite it still being available, would not allow us to reserve it without paying the fee again (thus double paying). Just not the kind of hospitality we were expecting.

The place was overall great quality and as advertised. We had access to good shower/toilet bathrooms next door. The only problems were the stove top only worked at full temp so we had to use the communal kitchen, and the tree scraping on the side of the building (cabin 7) kept us awake all 3 nights - the storm was on night 3 so we left incredibly tired. The boys loved the pool and doing manu's with the local lads.

Had a kitchenette cabin, was nearly put off booking by needing to bring bedding, however once we arrived the pools were amazing which outweighed all else.
Also paid extra for our family to use the private pool, such a great space.
Will be back with golf clubs and walking shoes for the waterfall track is open.
Loved it all, but will be upgrading to a motel unit in the hope the double bed is better as we had some serious roll together 😆

reception lady was so unpleasant didn’t smile no warm welcome so slow at checking us in reasonably rude explaining our shortened spa time due to being late of our own accord but could have been more friendly just because. Ignored us when we spoke asking questions staring at the computer instead…. hadn’t answered oh when we were calling to advise our lateness. a just responded NO abruptly to request for late check out on mother’s day …. very unpleasant i’d not return because of her service but found the place nice an would want to bring kids back just not to be checked in by her

Was much nicer than we were expecting . The unit had been renovated ( only the shower to go) . Great new deck with table and chairs , to relax on with a quite drink . Beds were great . We fully enjoyed our 2 nights stay, so quiet an the view is worth seeing, staff in office are welcoming an friendly, property were tidy an clean daily an amenities were closeby an clean, toilets an showers were clean an tidy an easy parking, walking distance too the hot & cold pools, beautiful gardens, kitchen cabins needs a upgrade abit outdated, double bed was small, mattress was hard an you could feel the springs when you lie on bed, Rm 7 ranchslider wouldnt slide across, you had too lift the door upwards too slide across an too lock door, kitchenette was small bench space an fan in the room had a rattle when turned on, so it was noisey an annoying but we adapted an loved our stay, we will definately reccomend in coming back again

Opal Hot Springs is affordable but the facilities are not very nice. The bathroom was quite dirty with many bugs. Showers were quite dark at night. The room itself had a mildew musk and did not have any air conditioning.

Great setting and very peaceful. Kids loved the pools.
Unfortunately the units are tired and the beds kept us awake all night with the squeaky uncomfortable spring mattresses.
Complimentary tea and coffee would have been nice as would a table outside on the deck.

My whanau and i enjoyed our night in the family motel rooms. Definately the better option for families and much quierer then the bunk cabins. Staff were amazing and the pools were just wow. Make sure u get in a good soak while you're there,you will feel brand new lol. Thanknyou opal hot springs we will be back again soon.

No WiFi (you cannot even use your own data as they clearly have a blocker) except if you pay their extortionate WiFi rates for minimal data. Not a good look this day & age. We were trying to organise funeral, so we had to go off-site to do this, pointless staying here, as we were looking for time out to clear our heads and make further arrangements. Don't recommend at all.

We booked the family room and mistakingly put 2 people down. Owner argued that we could only have 2 people - no compassion as we had travelled to Waharoa for a tangihanga (funeral) - owner demanded we pay extra despite paying over $300 - we told owner we would never have booked a family room for 2 people only. It was a genuine mistake - owner showed no compassion or understanding of our situation. We had travelled over 6 hours to get to the tangihanga. Totally unhelpful especially when we were already stessed and sad.

we were definitely happy to stay in warm room with an 8mo and a 2yo, but the water through the kitchen tap ran brown for a while until it turned clear, this is not good for a baby which needs clean and safe water to drink (yes i was boiling the water). the shower took a good 5 - 10 minutes before it ran warm to hot, i do understand that if no one stayed in the room for a while this can happen but staff should have been checking this before having guests stay.

I found the whole properties facilities being good and not hard to access, I would say put something more in place for the cars up at the cabins as some had more vehicles than suppose to and also have a system that better makes other guests know to stop being noisy and also the cabin I was in the door kept jamming which made it hard to lock. I didn't like there were cobwebs and spiders on the roof an no vacuum or broom offered if your there for longer than 3 days. Plus beds were dusty on the top bunks. Suggest to have a better airflow for condensation.

We never got there as the function got cancelled through illness and our money wasn't refunded as we hadn't cancelled by the 10th February 2024 which is terrible as other accommodations offer a much better cancelation time frame I will never look to book there again and will tell people. Its time Opal Springs moved with the times .I gave 24hr notice of my cancelation so they were able to sell it on.

Cental to Rail Trail. The owners seem to have done alot of work on the grounds and working their way up the list of priorites & improvements for an older establishment.
Although the rooms are tired but they are clean, and tidy & contain all of the necessities. Good linen, comfortable beds & pillows & all the cutlery crockery expected.

Great service at check-in. Cabins were clean and in a tidy condition. Beds had pillows and bottom sheets. And with the summer heat, we didn't really need the extra bedding we had brought.

Loved that 3 pools (1 large one with cool water, lanes and a slide and 2 smaller hot pools) were free for guests to use. Stayed here after doing the Tongariro Crossing and it was perfect for our family of 2 adults and 2 teenagers. We used the pools in the evening and the next morning as well.
