Secret spot for a perfect stay in central Madrid

I don't love sharing this place, as it's so great I'm afraid it'll be full every time I write to reserve a room (I've been a regular guest here since 1998). this place is small, inexpensive, and located in the very center of Madrid (Sol). The folks here are friendly and the rooms clean. Stay here, then help me keep it a secret!!

Very nice 3 day stay, after 1st night there was a problem with water dripping from my bathroom to the one below but they quickly fixed and offered me another room if I wanted to change but I stayed and everything was great. All places eventually have problems when are in historical buildings but the staff handled it perfectly. Great location steps from center of Madrid, highly recommend!

The room was very small. No air conditioning. The windows had sealed shutters so absolutely NO DAYLIGHT.
The bed was clean enough but the shower sealant was mouldy and pokey.
I tried to change the room but the staff didn’t speak English.
Good job I was on my own, if there were two in there it would have been unbearable. It was claustrophobic as it was.
In fairness I was shown another room on my departure and that was five times better.
I’d recommend paying the extra to get a better room. Good location, very central.

Beware room 226....!

My room faced on to a courtyard. The first night the room was very hot, I had the window open. At around 2am a dog started barking then someone started shouting this happened again an hour later. The next night the people on the third floor, continued having a discussion around 1.45am for over two hours....On the next night I could not sleep as there were a variety of sounds eg moving furniture etc
I phoned reception each night and although they sounded sympathetic I was not offered a quieter room.
As I was not able to sleep my stay was ruined, I was exhausted all the time!
When I checked in I specified I wanted a quiet rooom!

Great value, but serious drawbacks.

Very economically priced accommodations for such a central location - right at Plaza Del Sol.
Unfortunately you have to be buzzed in both at the main entrance and again at your floor level in order to access your room. In addition there are many stairs to climb, so not for anyone with mobility issues.

Perfect location, room looks like pics!

My stay good, this place is in the center of everything!
Plaza Mayor, Gran Vía, metros and Palace were all walking distance away. The room was clean just like the pics, we were on the 5th floor near a window which I know I requested because I wanted to see the street but next time I would ask for a room more indoors. It did get loud on the weekend and a concert on puerta del sol didn’t make it better for us. Overall I’m satisfied with our stay you get your money’s worth and basic necessities.

For me the small room was ok because I am a solo traveler plus I have my own private bathroom and the bed was confortable and not to small. My room was very quiet because it was in the back (407).
Location was perfect, close to the main site. I did walk to every place. Also is a lot of restaurants and tapas. My complaints about the Hostel Victoria is that there wete people smoking the stupid electric cigarettes inside the floor And I am very allergic to that quimic and I was caught all the time, plus my neighbors were very noisy and I can hear everything. Beside that I had a wonderful time in Madrid. If I return, probably I will stay again in Hostel Victoria.

It is downtown. It is a little bit noisy but if you dont want any noise at all, then stay in a vineyard. Here it is fine, eventhough there was a big party outside i was able to sleep after closing the window. Location is perfect everything is walking or subway distance. I'd stay again here for sure.

Best place for a solo traveler on budget. Less than a minute walk from Sol station. The staff was super helpful. Make sure to know that you will have to check in at Hostal Victoria #1 and you will have ring the bell every time you want to be let in. I'd go back here in Madrid. This place can get loud at night due do its location in the center but I have no complaint. Cozy and clean room.

I wanted a clean place centrally located. The room and bathroom were immaculate. It’s just a few meters from the exact center Madrid, Puerta del Sol. The staff was pleasant and efficient. My room was small if that matters to you, but it was comfortable with a safe, refrigerator and TV.

Room 409. I'm average size. CLEAN. SMALL ROOM, I got used to it.. Tall people over 5'9\"may have issues. SMELLS humid/ moldy, I believe due to lack of ventilation in bathroom...I got used to it. Keep window open during the day. BATHROOM was like 5x6 feet- super small. Mini half sized bathtub that probably isn't supposed to be used as tub, but good for soaking feet. HOT WATER works-long showers :) . BED comfortable enough for me to sleep (I'm a light sleeper) YET a weird long pillow that is for two people. FRIDGE is small and works. VIEW of side street/federal building, Little balcony, you could see the Main square and excitement (noisy tourists) WIFI works great, bring your own outlet transformer the one they gave me didn't seem to work well/ Or something weird with electricity, my phone would charge for awhile, the thing got hot and stopped then turned on again. TV small but only Novelas on anyways. WALLS i guess thin cuz we could hear neighbor shower. HEATER works, nice and warm (it was cold outside). PEOPLE partied big time outside so I slept with eye mask and ear plugs. Pizza down stairs, Express mini mart up the street (get your water and snacks there). Expensive shopping area like Apple store/ MAC cosmetics. Walking distance to Palace. Be careful with Taxi drivers I got ripped off once (aside from the Airport taxis)

No internet for 12 hours?

I missed my flight home and had to find a hotel at the last minute. Yes price was an issue because this was an 'added cost' to my journey. The girl at the counter was helpful but there was no internet from the time I checked in at 9pm until I left at 7am. Therefore I could not connect with anyone and more importantly confirm my new flight. A hotel in this day and age that cannot offer reliable internet is not worth staying at because we all need to be connected and I was totally disconnected.

The hostel is over two buildings, so don't be surprised is you check in and then be directed back onto the street to an adjoining building. That's no big deal, but good to know. The nearby Puerta del Sol is a great reference point for all visitors to Madrid, which is a wonderful city. You might also bring ear plugs, as some rooms face on to the street.

Great location, but very small room.

The hotel is located in the historical district right off of Calle Mayor (the main street) and right next to the Sol metro station. The parking that is offered for a fee is in a parking garage about a 7 minute walk away. The reception desk is located in Hotel Victoria I (a few doors down), which was confusing, but the staff person spoke decent English. The room (and bathroom) was very small, but it was clean and sufficient for one night.

Being woken with water dripping through the light fitting in the ceiling onto the bed on the first morning was not good. The staff were reluctant to provide an alternative room even though the light fitting was potentially dangerous and the room was unusable.

Organising the move was slow. The cleaner was put under unnecessary stress because of this but she coped admirably and I couldn't thank her enough.

However, the adage you get what you pay for comes to mind ... !

The free wifi did not work properly - as the router did not seem to have been rebooted for a while - and the TV in the second room only functioned with about four (of 30-plus) channels.

Paying a little more another time could bring disproportionate benefits!

Adequate budget option with no frills

Good budget option in the centre of town. Room is basic but adequate. If rooms at the back of the building are taken you don't have a noise issue but there is no view.
Bathroom was tiny and mouldy. They could not give us an iron across the 4 days we stayed there saying they weren't aware which guest had it so poor service on their part for this. Other than that rest of the stay was fine.

Hotel Victoria II near the Puerta del Sol, Madrid

Pros: In a good area with lots of stores and subway station nearby. Good daily housekeeping service.

Cons: Very noisy at night since it is near a major square. To register you need to go to the Victoria I Hotel (about 2 buildings over) first which is on the second floor what looks more like an apartment house than a hotel. Elevators in both Victoria I & Victoria II Hotels are small. Good for 2-3 people with 1 luggage per person. I was on the 4th floor but had to go to the 5th floor to reach my room with a very narrow hall and lots of twists and turns... not mentioning walking down 2 steps to reach the 4th floor from the 5th floor. The hallways had a switch for the lights (not motion sensitive)but they sometimes turned off before reaching another switch to turn the lights on again to see where you are walking. The card key to the room fail to work a few times for opening the door. Wi-Fi signal was weak or none at times. Bathroom very small... about the width of a double size bed. No cable TV channels and the channels that they had were all in Spanish.

Took a day trip from Barcelona with my mother and stayed for one night. Hotel was clean, quaint, and awesome location! Steps away from Puerta del Sol (and Metro station) in the middle of Madrid. Walking distance from many tourist attractions and great restaurants. Hotel staff were friendly, helpful, and spoke English. Would definitely stay again.

Superb location, basic hotel

The best thing about this hostale is the perfect location - literally in the centre of the city map of my guide book. You're approximately a 30 second walk from the nearest underground stop while most of the city's attractions are a within a 10-15 minute radius walk away. The hostale itself is very basis - and it's confusing trying to find the reception - there's no clues given on the sign itself, you need to buzz yourself in and then walk to the second floor. You don't get a key to the front door so you need to buzz in every time you want to enter - luckily there is someone on the desk 24 hours a day. The room itself was basic, we had 3 beds (2 singles and 1 double) between two of us though so plenty of room. Air conditioning is good, and the included fridge is useful. The bathroom was clean and functional although we did have a broken shower head meaning that you had to hold it above your head when you wanted to use it. Beds and towels were changed daily, while the room's safe meant I had no qualms about leaving my valuables in the room. There is inbuilt wi-fi but it's very flaky and would work sometimes and not others - don't rely on it. Overall would definitely recommend this hotel if you're looking for something to just crash in of a night that is clean, cheap and above all central.

The location is right in the heart of Madrid, the metro station is a 5-minute walk away. That's the only good thing I can say.
They didn't give me the room in the photos, I stayed in a room facing the back.
The room had a heating problem, it was too hot. When I wanted to open the window, I could smell the bad food from the pizza place downstairs.
The bed was not comfortable at all and even the conversations of the people in the next room sounded like they were in the same room.
Although I paid an expensive price, I couldn't find the same service.
I don't recommend it.
