The rooms are small with no TV, which suited us fine as we were away for a quiet retreat.
The staff are so friendly. Breakfast was freshly made good southern food, with a different item each day.
It is a very old creaky building with so much character, but no sound proofing!
The whole stay had a very tree house, fairy tale vibe. we loved it!

The hotel is in a beautiful area. There isn’t access to the lake from the hotel. There’s absolutely no privacy at all. You can hear everything from the adjacent rooms and bathroom. The bed is very uncomfortable. Squeaky with a hard spring mattress.

We arrived after 7pm, and an envelope was on the reception desk with our name on it and room key in it, just like we were told it would be. The lobby had a fire going in the fireplace and was very welcoming with comfortable chairs and couches. Stayed in the Legend room on the second floor. It was clean with a king size bed and good shower. With the king size bed, room is a little tight moving around but was fine for our two night stay. There are also some great areas outside the rooms with nice comfortable furniture and a wonderful balcony with furniture on the second floor.

This is a 100+ year-old rustic inn and absolutely adorable! Rooms are small but have everything you need. Breakfast is what they are serving that day, not a buffet, and it was a lot of food with some traditional southern favorites. There are little places to tuck away and read a book, and big porches/decks to enjoy the scenery. Lake Rabun is across the street, and there is a boat ramp close to the hotel. There are hiking trails and waterfalls a short drive away.

Fell Short of Expectations

There is no lake view, the room and common areas are clean. The bathrooms off of the lobby stunk all of time. The first room we stay in was right over the kitchen and the smell was horrible, the bed was uncomfortable and the parking lot noise was loud as the staff was leaving for the night. The next morning we moved to a different room. The 2nd room didn’t smell, had a larger bathroom and was quieter. The staff was nice and accommodating. The food was good but nothing special. The food at Max’s across the street is great, large portions. I can say that “I’ve been there, done that” as a historical hotel stay but I wouldn’t necessarily recommend my family or friends. I really wanted to like it but sadly it fell short of my expectations.

We love historical properties and excited to stay at the hotel. Unfortunately, there was an issue with our room and we were moved to the Fish Camp. While the camp is unique, the beds definitely need some upgrades and sadly we had to drive a mile and a half to eat breakfast and dinner at the hotel which made us feel isolated and diminished our experience. Staff were exceptional.

I loved the lodge and all the public spaces. It was lovely. I did not like how small our room was. It was almost impossible to get around each other to get ready. Only one small chair. The bed was super comfortable and we slept great. Wish we had better views of the lake. Overall lovely property.

Our third time staying here. The Rabun room needs some work. Screens fall off. No way to open windows for fresh air. The ceiling fan looked and sounded like it was going to fall off on us so we couldn’t use. Stuffy without fresh air and fan. The first floor water baskets in bathrooms needed to be emptied. The restaurant was great for dinner. Slow service at breakfast.

This was a small but beautiful room. It created a nice romantic get away for my husband birthday. The small town near by had plently of options for dining and shoping, but our main reason for coming to the area was hiking in the state park. It was about a 10 minute drive to the trails.
The staff were wonderful and did everything possible to answer questions and meet any need we had. Breakfast service was quick, the meal was filling and a great way to start a day of hiking.

We enjoyed our stay and loved this historic hotel. The food was very good and the servers were so friendly and accommodating. The only issue was the bed. Though the mattresses was plenty soft you sunk down so far it was like being in a bowl. That was very painful for my back.

This charming inn really had a way of welcoming and inviting it’s guests into the historical context of the area. This stay was the most comforting & breathtaking one I’ve had yet. Our experience overall was fantastic! The entire staff is super friendly and professional. Oh, and the dining here? WOW! The ONLY critique we have is the limited parking. They really ought to consider marking a reserved spot for guests of the hotel. When we returned on an early Saturday evening, the restaurant customers took up 90% of the spots and we wound up in the gravel overflow.
Hotel guests should have preferential treatment for parking.

We enjoyed our stay. The staff was very nice. There were some cobwebs in the room, especially in the windows, but the bathroom and linens were clean. The restaurant across the street was amazing. Be careful in the lobby; the flooring isn't level. Overall, a great place for a good price.

This little hotel is a rare find. It is cozy and rustic, and when you walk through the front door, you feel as if you have stepped back in time. The rooms are quaint and nice and the beds are So comfortable you won't want to get out of bed. The restaurant is incredible and we enjoyed an amazing dinner. The staff are more than friendly.

Chaise is by far one of the best bartenders I have ever had the pleasure of meeting , Taelor was such a funny and a ball of pure entertainment and the chef Pete made myself an amazing bison burger. Keygan was also so so funny and definitely made the experience here worthwhile. And last but not least kadence was also making the experience here extremely funny and enjoyable. I would 10/10 recommend coming here.

We had to attend funeral and once we did, we played to make it a positive trip. Lamb was superb. Breakfast was just right and eggs were made to order. This place is well worth the money we paid to stay. We chose the Appalachian Room which had a cabin feel, wood floors and rustic finishes added to the room's decor. Even a sound machine for sleep was in our room. King bed and bedding were great. Decor for the room and common areas had a very charming, old world feel.
Fully accommodating coffee/tea station on both floors. Beautiful landscaping with waterfall and Koi Pond, stone walkways added to beauty of this hotel. Staff were very helpful and personable. Max's restaurant across the street was convenient, good food and priced well.

Poor Staffing, Teeny Tiny Rooms, But Charming

I will say, it's an adorable historic rustic little lodge on Lake Rabun. But \"historic\" means tiny rooms where you have no place to put your luggage, you constantly bang your shins and toes on the feet of the bed, and you can't turn around in the bathroom. We apparently stayed in the tiniest room of them all: The Moonshine room.
They do serve breakfast, which is a plus, but at least when we were there on a Monday through Wednesday, there were no servers. You walked in and helped yourself to juice and coffee just sitting on a table and a small fruit spread on the bar. As you sit, they ask you how you like your eggs (excuse me: egg). You get one. Then they just bring you a small plate of what they're serving that day, including your egg how you told them you wanted it. No menu or buffet to choose from. The food was decent, but the \"server\" was also manning the front desk of the hotel, so I felt like a bother trying to track someone down when I needed to ask for staples like ketchup or butter.
The front desk closes up for the night at about 7pm (maybe 8?), apparently, and doesn't open back up until 7:30am, so you're on your own at night, just don't need anything. And the nearest grocery store or gas station is 15 minutes away in Clayton.
In some ways, I guess I get it. It's a very small, probably family-owned place tucked away from any real civilization. So, the service is lacking for sure, but it does have some charm.

The area is quite beautiful and easy access to several enjoyable hiking trails near the hotel. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The age of the hotel is apparent and the \"Creature Comforts\" are lacking as a result. If you are looking for a 5 star hotel, look elsewhere. If you are looking for a clean and Vintage experience, then this is a great place for that experience.

I want to begin by saying it was a great weekend. We definitely recommend coming here. The atmosphere is cozy. The staff are friendly. It was definitely an “unplug” weekend. No in room television. There is WiFi. I do wish there was a little more space in our room and bathroom. It was a little snug. Granted, we didn’t really spend much time there. We went to the park to see the waterfalls. The hotel set up our horseback rides for us at a local stable. My wife got a massage at the hotel. We had a great dinner at the hotel restaurant. It is worth the trip.

My major problem was with Expedia booking which was unacceptable due to their total failure to keep me informed. The date of arrival was changed and I was NOT informed. Only thru my last minute inquirer did I learn of the change and I then adjusted my travel. Complete Expedia failure!!! Not a property issue.

Minor Property issue: The facial tissue was near empty in the room. I asked front desk for another box but they had none. They said they would inform housekeeping but I never heard anything again. I think it highly unusual for front desk not to have these simple products, facial tissue, TP, etc, available for their guests upon special request.

Quaint and lovely for a nice 2 day escape.
We \"splurged\" for a room on the 3rd floor (we were told it was nicer) after peeking in on a 2nd floor room we realized it was the same.
Loved everything about the hotel and grounds, the food was amazing both at dinner and breakfast.
The coffee bar on each floor is a nice touch.
Plenty of decks and verandas for sitting and enjoying a glass of wine in the evening or coffee in the morning.
We will definitely be back :)

Very enjoyable stay at this historic hotel in the mountains. The property was nice and reminded me of a bed and breakfast type of stay. The restaurant was nice, and the hotel was only 10 minutes from the Tallulah Falls Gorge/State Park. I enjoyed my stay and the hike to the gorge floor/sliding rock.

The Hotel has a really beautiful vintage Lodge look and feel. The property is so eclectic and interesting inside and out. The furnishings are spot on for the whole timeless Lodge look and feel.

There are little to no lake views due to the location and the tree line.

The A/C was great and our room had a ceiling fan.

The restaurant atmosphere, food and service was very good and very $$$ but worth the price. The included breakfast was also delicious.

Not Lake Front, Can’t even see the Lake, let alone walk to it or around it. Located on busy country road so you can’t walk anywhere- All private property. Have to drive pretty far to take a walk.
