We've just returned from a 2 night stay at the Grandhotel Giessbach and wow, what a place! The hotel is certainly grand and is located in the most beautiful location I've ever seen, overlooking Lake Brienz with the Giessbach falls only metres away! The staff were all very pleasant, the breakfast was great, the bar was lovely, the Les Cascades restaurant was lovely, the surrounding park and trails were truly beautiful!

However, my only complaint is that we had to pay 15CHF per night for parking. I think for the price you pay to stay at the hotel, parking should be included for that price

The best way to describe this hotel is: straight out of a fairytale! The view from literally anywhere you look are absolutely spectacular. The hotel is 150 years old but they have done an outstanding job at conserving it authentic and classic look but with some modern and classic touches for comfort. You feel like you are transported in a time-capsule machine to a classic, glamorous and beautiful place. Certainly an experience that I would highly recommend

Beautiful, well thought out rooms. Very clean and comfortable rooms. Loved the coffee/tea bar located on the third floor. The breakfast was fabulous- Huge selection of choices and very tasty. Enjoyed the outdoors restaurant- food very good and the outdoors areas were stunning. Wish food service in the outside garden went into the evening as it suited all age groups.

The buffet breakfast was amazing and included in the room rate. We had beautiful weather and took the ferry ride to Interlaken which we highly recommend doing.
The walk to the falls is a must. Altogether a wonderful experience in this historic luxury hotel.

The property has great views of the lake and is convenient to get to if you have a car. If not you have to take the boat to get to the hotel. The only problem we had during our stay was the limited options of food available as there are no restaurants nearby besides the hotel restaurant.

I would definitely recommend staying here. Be sure to book early to get a room and a great rate. I had a double room with the half board inclusive. You will not pay more for food but you will pay for drinks.

The Grandhotel Gießbach is an amazing place. It is right in a nature park with gorgeous views of waterfall and lake Brienz. The historic funicular is a short walk away. It will take you right to the boating dock on lake Brienz. The hotel is so classic and grand. Excellent breakfast with musicians playing violin and piano in the background. Totally blow me away

The situation is impressive and so are the hotel's grand salons. The view from our large room was beautiful and in general the food and service were very good. Disappointingly, CNN was the only available English-speaking channel on the room TV. Also, since Covid is again on the increase, it was surprising that more measures weren't in place (e.g., the same buffet utensils were used by all guests, few guests appeared to use hand sanitizer when entering the dining areas, and very few staff or guests wore masks).

The property is in the middle of an amazing natural park with view on the beautiful Brienz Lake and the Waterfalls.
I love the atmosphere of the hotel it is like travelling in time (don’t expect AC which would spoil the architecture and design of the place). This is very charming and very peaceful to stay here. There is a funiculare to access the lake.

Location was beautiful. Enjoyed the view of the lake and the waterfall hike. Service was great. Parking cost me 10 francs though. Given that this hotel is almost 150 years, I heard cracks in the floor when I walked around in my room. The bathroom appears to newly renovated. WiFi was great given its isolated location. The breakfast buffet was amazing and is definitely a must have.

Lovely hotel in desperate need of a renovation

The pros: Incredible location, fantastic views, stunning setting and easy access to great walks and hikes. Warm and professional service. Delicious breakfast and impressive dinner menus.
The cons: Hardware is really old. Bedrooms are clean but in desperate need of a refresh. The beds are hard as rocks, bathrooms are extremely old. Heating cannot be manually controlled and hence rooms are terribly hot in summer. No blackout curtains in rooms, plumbing can be heard from room to room.

All I can say about the views are WOW. Located directly next to the waterfall, and overlooking the lake, we saw the most unbelievable sunset in a gorgeous setting. The pool is really unique too - fed by fresh water, which I loved. The hotel is great for exploring and reading about the history was really fun. My only note was on comfort - the bed itself wasn't the most comfortable. I understand the hotel wants to maintain the integrity of the history, but mattresses can still be updated. Otherwise, highly recommend!

It is alittle secluded so rent a car or expect to pay for ferry's and buses. The free breakfast is the best a full line of everything. There is a restaurant for dinner but a bit pricey. AMAZING!

All around an exceptional experience, and we cannot wait to come back with the rest of our family! The hotel workers that assisted us during check-in and check-out were very kind and helpful. The rooms are clean and large, and turndown service is offered.

The hiking trails from the hotel are unmatched! We hiked up the Axalp trail from the hotel (about 2 hours 40 minutes up) and it turned out to be our favorite hike in Switzerland. Strikingly beautiful. If you are unable to hike, or just want to go on a short walk/hike, you have a beautiful view of the waterfall from the hotel, and can take an easy trail behind it, as well as get a wonderful view of the hotel and lake. You can also take their funicular (trolley thing) down to the lake, or use the walking path that takes about 15-20 minutes.

Dinner at the restaurant downstairs was a wonderful experience. Our wait staff was exceptional with their service and recommendations. We had the Geissbach red wine, the Enterecote Cafe de Paris steak plate, and their Duet of Swiss pork fillet/ belly slow-cooked for 48 hours. In addition to the world class wait staff, you have a beautiful view of the waterfall.

The breakfast in the morning was the best included buffet that we had the entire trip. Everything you can think of and more with a waterfall view.

Note: We opted for train and bus travel around the area and it is about a 2/3 mi walk from the bus station, and also a little walk from the parking lot.

Phenomenal Hotel.

What a stunning hotel! The location overlooking the lake is breathtaking. I saw it on Band of Brothers and the reality is even better. Several hiking trails, a large waterfall, a natural pool adorn the landscape. The restaurant had stellar food. The service was fantastic. The hotel offers a free funicular to the lakes edge and you can catch a steam boat to tour the lake. It was an idyllic setting. I was blown away.

Very charming historic hotel, in an amazing, unique setting. Swimming pool, hiking/biking trails, waterfall, the funicular ride from the hotel to the ferry, and of course the mountains and lake views are all spectacular. The only reason we did not rate it a \"5\" is because the dinner restaurant and bar were understaffed, resulting in slow service. The breakfast buffet was incredible.

1) a bit of noise from old fashion facilities (doors, timber floor, etc)

Unique 19th Century Fairy Tale Setting

For anyone needing an unforgettable retreat into the alpine forests in the luxury of a well preserved genuine 19th century grand hotel, this is the real deal. High on the steep side of an emerald green lake, it is best approached with the steam ships from Brienz, via the original funicular at the hotel, or by the van shuttle from hotel x4 per day.
It is situated next to the enormous falls of Giessbach, and right at the center of the hiking/biking trails.
You can get to Interlaken by the ships, and this is a delightful, cosmopolitan tourist center with customer hang-gliding, tours to the very visible Jungfrau, etc.
The original steam-powered mountain cog railway takes you to the peak of Rothorn, with a magnificent Alpine vista.
People should first check at the Visitors Center in Brienz, where bargain group pricing is available for many attractions, such as ship rides, the mountain railroad, etc.

Had a very good three days in this hotel. Not easy to find, but the Sat Nav got us there by road. The bedroom was at the back of the hotel, and the window view was not great, better views at the front, but at more cost. Venicular rail trip from the hotel down to the lake very good - first trip ticket provided. Good boat trips across the lakes (not cheap but worth doing). Very nice hotel lounge area, with piano musicician in the evening. Great breakfast choices available. We would definatly use this hotel again if the opportunity arises.

When arriving at the hotel you have to drag your luggage up the stairs to the lobby.
Only there were we told that there was an elevator, but there was no signs pointing towards it and neither did the waiter who was working near the staircase advice us about it.
There is no aircon in the rooms, so on a hot day its very warm inside.
