I’m giving it three stars because it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea. It’s certainly unique, and you’re right in the heart of Amsterdam, close to everything and literally in the middle of the Red Light District — yes, with a view of the ladies. The atmosphere is unlike anywhere else.

There’s a bar downstairs that feels like something from the Peaky Blinders era, where smoking ban rules don’t seem to apply, so it’s quite an experience to rate. If you want luxury, this is not the place — the rooms are very basic, and not everything is in perfect condition.

But if you’re looking for something different and want to see and feel Amsterdam’s atmosphere right from your window and doorstep, and you’re not too bothered about where you lay your head at night, then it’s perfect. And honestly, next time I’m in Amsterdam, I think I’ll return for the nostalgia and the beauty of its simplicity.

This place is run down, shoddy, loud and dangerous. What a terrible stay. You’ll be lured to book it because its rates are lower but you will regret that as I now do. The stairs are so steep that you could literally fall to your death trying to struggle a heavy suitcase up there. The step treads are barely 6 inches. No doorman to help. The rooms are tiny and broken down. Like the tiny single table in my room that was falling out of the wall.

DO NOT stay here if you want a good night’s SLEEP

On the plus side, the reception/bar staff were friendly. Also a fan was provided in the room.

On the minus side, the room was small, had a shared bathroom and toilet and the promised toiletries amounted to one small bottle of body wash - for my entire three nights. The decor was dated and the shelf inside the wardrobe was stained. The television was minuscule and placed at the head of the bed, making it impossible to view when in bed.

The main problem is the constant noise. I knew the “hotel” was in the Red Light District, so was expecting noise outside, and in fairness the windows blocked out most of it. It was the noise inside the hotel that ensured I did not have one good night’s sleep. The rooms are so crammed together that anyone entering a room is going to disturb neighbouring occupants as there is no way of closing the doors quietly. As a result I was woken throughout the night and every morning at around 07:30 by multiple banging doors. On my final day the cleaning staff appeared to have started at around 08:00 adding to the noise preventing anyone from sleeping in.

The “hotel” is more suited to be a hostel for backpackers. I would not recommend this place to anyone wanting a decent night’s sleep.

I was very, very upset and disappointed in this hotel. It was not an accurate description. It is a hostel, and it's a one star at a Max and definitely not worth it. And it lies it says, there's air conditioning, there's no air conditioning. You open a window, and that's it. The bathrooms and the shower are down. The hall and they're nasty. So needless to say, I wasted a lot of money on a p o.S hotel

The only good thing about this hotel is its convenience, it is in the heart of the Red light district and few minutes walk from the Amsterdam Centraal. The hotel stairways is very steep, not good for 50 years old and above or anyone with some disabilities, its a struggle to go up the stairs and nevermind if you have luggage lol. Our room sink is blocked, informed the gentleman when we arrived and i have been told it will be fixed when the cleaners come in the morning, but did the cleaners actually cleaned our room ? i would say NO , the good thing is we only stayed there two nights just to sleep , we were out all day. When you come out from the hotel you can smell strong disgusting smell of urine, male urinal situated directly in front, there is a thai restaurant underground of the Hotel wanted to eat there but discouraged due to the smell. The room we slept in was warm no fan or air conditioning , you can open the windows but the noise is too loud at night, bars and sex theaters just oposite the hotel so expect drunk and loud party goers. Will never go back to this hotel. And btw its a shared toilet and shower 🙁

It is in a good location but it is quite loud, always smells like urine outside. The stairs are ridiculous. Breakfast is bland and tasteless. It would be fine for <€75 night but it is not. Rooms need fans and modern TVs, they are maybe 300mm ? People smoke in rooms though they are nonsmoking. I would not stay there again if given the option.

In the heart of the redlight!

The place was the best trip to the redlight yet, this hotel is located right in the middle of all the action, you can leave the window open and hear the festive atmosphere all night. Literally next to some of the best windows the district has to offer and right across the canal from Casa Rosso. Bar downstairs in open 24/7. Rooms are what you can expect in the RLD, it's part of the charm. Includes breakfast in the morning. I miss it already.

Walkable to Central Station (850m). Convenient to all kinds of restaurants. Staffs are friendly and approachable. They provide you with advice for visiting Amsterdam. Breakfast is good.

It's hot in the hallway and room, but you can open the window during the night to cool it down a little bit. Shared bathroom and restrooms are really tight. Stairs are steep for big luggage.

Overall, worth the budget for a place you want to visit.

I have mixed feelings about our stay. The staff was very nice. They made us feel welcome and safe as two females traveling alone. The street noise was very loyd until around 3 am nightly. Saturday night was particularly bad. However, this is to be expected in this area. The room wasn't posh or luxury by any means and could probably use a deep clean/paint job. There was no noise from within the hotel. We really appreciated the breakfast as it was one meal we didn’t have to worry about in the day. Overall the stat got the job done for a quick European jaunt. Id recommend to a night or two stay and for those that are looking for a party in the red light district. If you are looking for luxury and comfort this is not the place for you. Thank you to the kind and friendly staff!

If location is everything then this places THE place to stay. 24 hour bar renter /front desk. Not fancy, bare basics with a bathroom/toilet that’s shared with one of the rooms.Hot showers and an old classic look of a pub that rents out basic clean rooms. Very clean,Well Managed and very secure.I would like to stay here again .

Quick stay in central AMS.

Central location, easy to get to. 10 minute walk from AMS Central station. There is also Nieuwmarkt Subway about 3-4 min walk that can take you to AMS Central or AMS Airport. There are plenty of restaurants and stores nearby. There is also a supermarket, Albert Heijn, which has the best prices for food and drinks on the next street over. Hotel wise, it is not the best, the plumbing had slight issues in the room, in-room sink would make a noise and drain slowly. Showers and bathrooms are shared and were clean. They are for men.women. The stairs are like all AMS hotels, they are steep, not recommended if you carry large luggage. We do fine as we only carry one bag/light. They have free breakfast, not fantastic, but great since everything costs money in AMS. Bar is open with beer and liquor. Plenty of people stop by for drinks and to chat with, very entertaining to people watch. Room has heater. Room was stuffy, but opening windows helped. This stay was for getting rest and ending our trip to catch a flight. Place felt safe, staff checks who enters hotel. We saw single women, couples stay at hotel. Most were ok with their stay. Staff were good to talk to and gave local info/transportation help. It was great location to have access to bathroom near the city center.

Well the review should be in 2.
One for the personnel, they were great, fantastic, always open to help you.
Now the property, well is in the middle of the red light Distric (depending what you coming for; could be convenient or not), that implies noises, people going around late, etc. It’s not a place for families; that’s for sure!
The place is not the Caesar, the reception it’s in the bar downstairs; and I am not criticizing, I am describing literal how it is.
Like I said, this is Europe, and it’s different.
I travel solo, and I have been in different places, some worst, some better.
One thing that they should work on is in change the pillows, beds, and bedsheets.
Like I said before… depends what you are looking for.

Discomforts and Inadequacies Abound

Very basic rooms in a fun location in the heart of the red light district. While I knew the rooms would be basic before I arrived, I had no idea how indifferent management was to basic bathroom design (overflowing drains, shower curtains stapled to stay up, mold due to total non ventilation). Beside the bartenders on the ground level, there was no one in charge. The room got major afternoon sun and only one broken fan was available to circulate air.

This is not a hotel. This is a hostel. We booked this based on the 10/10 reviews which are RIDICULOUS. We checked into a bar and climbed very steep stairs to the attic where I couldn’t stand. The twin beds were very uncomfortable, the carpet had vomit stains and there wasn’t a bathroom in the room, only on the next floor down, shared with 5 other rooms. We spoke to the bartender who said we could leave now and get a refund on half of the nights (2) but we had to pay for the first two nights. $300 for nothing. I understand that he lost a booking but this place was really bad and we booked another hotel (Rho hotel) for the same price and it was SO MUCH BETTER. Do not stay here unless you’re in college and want a crash pad.

This was my first trip to the Netherlands, I travel a lot for business and pleasure (I work for an airline), so I am used to nice hotels but occasionally do stay at hostels so I see a wide range. My issue is that this \"hotel\" did not make it clear that it did not have a private, in-room bathroom and shower. I paid around 90 euro not expecting to have to share a bathroom/shower. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the room was clean and adequate (good wifi, ease of after hour entry, security, etc.) but it was basically a private bedroom hostel. I believe I could have stayed in several hostels (shared bath) for around 25-30 euro.

You should know that this hotel is in the heart of the Red Light district- which is definitely not for everyone! The Red Light district was the worst neighborhood that I visited in Amsterdam and would never go back there. The rest of Amsterdam was amazing! This hotel was more like a hostel. Shared bathrooms. You enter through a bar. The spiral staircase was very narrow and steep, which might be hard for some people. The bed was very very uncomfortable, it was hard and the linens were very stiff and rough. The room was the most basic of basic and wasn’t particularly clean. Also the walls were very thin, we could hear everything from the room next to us, and with it being the Red light district, it was SO loud outside in the streets until about 3-4 am.
The good: the service at check-in was fabulous, and the breakfast was good!

This place is okay for you If you are okay living with a shared bathroom ( which they did not mention while i booked it ) , super crowdy and noisy , with no elevators/lifts and narrow staircase ( super hard to go up with any luggage ) + narrow streets ( specially in night u won’t be able to move with your luggage easily as its red light district and touristy place). I don’t feel comfortable at all living in the red light area as i was a solo girl though its safe but not a place for me.

Right in red light district so bery old and authentic dutch style. Very steep stairs lead to room area. The most comfortable beds ive ever slept in. Not luxury by any means. Very clean. Very secure. Never made it down to breakfast. From our room vould open window into alley and see everything including “ lady in window”. Not a place for quiet as streets are alwAys bustling. Was a few block walk from bus stop after leaving Amsterdam Centraal. Hosts very nice and oresent 24 hrs a day.

The room was cleaner than expected.
The stairs to reach the room are very narrow and its hard to reach the room, especially if you have a big luggage.
The area is quite busy so there was some noise coming from outside, but nothing unbearable.
Kind of annoying that each time you get back to the hotel you have to ask at the reception to open the door but I guess is to prevent random people to go upstairs since the hotel reception is also a sort of pub.

Great location in the centre of Amsterdam, so pretty close to everything. (But that’s probably about all!!)
The rooms are situated above a bar, (unfortunately our room looked down onto a red light street!!) so was pretty noisy until around 5.30am!
They were very basic, ours consisted of three single beds, (clean & very comfortable) a sink & a wardrobe. (It could have done with a lick of paint as the decor was a little shabby, & the light shade above the sink was broken)
The toilets/shower were shared, (but clean) and located at the top of the landing, and the continental breakfast was a little sparse..
The smell outside the bar/hotel was pretty bad, & hit us hard when we went in/out, (maybe because of the hot weather?) but this was due to a urinal situated right outside the front door on the pavement!!
Definitely wasn’t worth €140 p/n but I guess you’re paying for the location..

You will meet the hotel staff with their quite brusque, no-nonsense external attitude when you walk through the door, but that's a cultural thing as they are all amazing people excellent and efficient at what they do. Just mind yourself and don't treat them as there to take care of you. Amsterdam is not for adolescents.
The room I stayed in was an example of Dutch style-- to the point, absolutely no concerns about safety (they will eyeball you before they buzz you into the room hall, and you show them your key), and it was very private. Above the Red Light streets, of course you will not fall asleep in silence, but that's why you are here. \"Shared\" bathrooms and showers, but they can be used one person at a time (no American dormitory games) and were impeccably clean.
Great people with a great gem of a hotel.

Great spot and amazing welcome by the female employees however slightly tainted by a very rude and obnoxious ginger guy with a beard behind the bar ! No wonder it was empty on his shift x

Great location in the heart of the Red Light District. Very loud at night, but it's in the middle of the fun area, so that's expected. The friendly and helpful staff was the highlight of my hotel stay! The check-in is in the bar on the main level and was quick and seamless. My room was on the 3rd floor, up very typically steep AMS stairs. (Wouldn't have worked for my elderly parents.) Shared bathroom was slight inconvenience, but always clean, and not that busy even though hotel was fully occupied. The hallways and doors leading to the bathroom were creaky, so you could hear each time someone walked through. There are a lot of restaurants and bars within walking distance, and Centraal Station was also walkable in 10-15 mins. Safe to be out walking around at night. After midnight, my room was stuffy, so I had to decide to open window and listen to street noise (talking, shouting, basic revelers, and mopeds) or close the window and be very warm. I chose open window for fresh air and wore ear plugs. Noisy until about 2am. Grocery store (Albert Hein) was one block away. Breakfast was mediocre at best, but it was free. Breakfast staff wasn't friendly, but there wasn't much interaction (again, it was FREE). Wi-Fi worked good. Sometimes spotty in the room, but reliable in hallways and in bar.

Not far from the Central Station and shops. In the Red light district area..but nothing to be afraid off. Very steep steps to the rooms. The Restaurant are next door to the Hotel with good food and 10% discount for Hotel guests. I did enjoy my stay.

It was fine, noisy on the street. Sadly I found bug bites on my arm and legs about 3 hours after check out. I believe the pattern of bites indicated they have bed bugs in the bed nearest the in room sink.

Hotel lives up to description

The hotel was exactly what it said it was, private rooms with shared bathrooms. And it was nice. GREAT location. And the staff was the best of any of the dozens of places I’ve ever stayed.

Great hotel

Great hotel close to everything. Easy to find. Staff are friendly and accommodating. With a 24hr bar for guests and breakfast. Exellent price . I would definitely stay here agian when in Amsterdam central

Red light hotel

Right in the heart of the Red Light District this hotel is the perfect location and is nice and clean with an excellent breakfast as well. My tv remote control did not work but that was the only complaint if any!

My biggest complain is there wasn't any soap in the toilets or the shared shower, i came in late and left early so it was annoying
