We unfortunately only stayed for one night but the property was awesome and staff was super friendly and helpful. They helped us to send our bags to Kyoto since traveling in and out of Hakone is a little difficult with 4 large bags. Overall amazing hotel, room was beautiful/clean and the breakfast and dinner buffet was so good. Absolutely recommend if you’re staying in Hakone.

We specifically booked a room with the private bath located on the 4th floor. We came by car and there's free parking. Valet was very friendly, front desk staff are also friendly with decent English knowledge. The included dinner and breakfast buffet was outstanding. It is absolutely worth coming here for a trip in Hakone, especially if you prefer a private bath.

We were really disappointed with our stay. Since there aren’t many dining options nearby, we ended up eating at the hotel buffet — which cost about $40 per person. Unfortunately, the food quality was poor. I’m not exaggerating when I say that half of it was cold — cold soup, cold pancakes, even the hot dishes weren’t warm. Definitely not worth the price, and it feels like they take advantage of the lack of nearby options.

Our room also had a strong, unpleasant odor that didn’t go away during our stay.

On top of that, the process for booking a private onsen was frustrating. We were told the only available slot was at 10 p.m., which doesn’t work for a family with a baby. Our 10-month-old wasn’t allowed to join my wife, so we couldn’t enjoy it together as a family. None of this was clearly explained before booking, and it made the experience far less relaxing or enjoyable than we expected.

Overall, poor communication and value for the price. Wouldn’t recommend for families or anyone expecting a traditional, comfortable ryokan experience.

We booked the room with in room hot spring. When we walked in the bathroom, the hot spring tub and the wooden flooring was all black. Looks very unappealing and feels dirty and it has a wet wood smell to the entire room. We immediately went to the front desk and paid extra to switched to another room with no hot spring tub. Not worth it to book a room with the hot spring when you can’t even enjoy because of the unkept condition. Better off booking a western style no hot spring room and enjoy the public onsen. Hotel is very dated and we saw cockroaches crawling in the hallways. Staffs are very friendly and helpful!

You need to pay to reserves a ping pong table….. Room was very nice and private onsen was decent. Location is decent. Shuttle bus to train station is not available later at night and requires money. Onsens do a lot of heavy lifting for this rating. Besides the room + onsen not anything re-deeming about hotel.

The private onsen in our room was amazing - it was spacious and everything was perfect. The room was so clean and neat. Though we wish there was more to do in the hotel. Also, if there were more shuttles running from the station- that would be great. Overall, we loved our stay.

The hot springs were wonderful. There is a hotel around the corner that Okada shares use of the rooftop hot springs, and that is absolutely worth a visit. It was beautiful up there, albeit a little hard to find off the 8th floor side entrance and you walk up a hill to the other building. If you can spring for the room with the hot spring tub in it, def do that. We did this for our 2nd night there, and it was a big bonus to the experience. The rooms are great and the quintessential Japanese experience (at least it seemed so to us). The buffet food was great, but the price is very high per person. That was our most expensive meal of the entire 10-day trip. If we were to do it again, we’d have done the buffet once for convenience, but gone to a local restaurant instead for the 2nd night. Heads-up - even if you buy a beer from the vending machine in the hallway outside the buffet…you can’t drink it inside. We bought one from the machine and tried to drink it but got scolded like criminals even though we bought in the hallway. Maybe the restaurant is separately run, but just a heads-up. Don’t make the same mistake. They have a convenient shuttle bus that goes straight to the train station/center of town where you can get the Romance Car back to Shinjuku or a trains onto the Hakone Cable Car / Ropeway. We’d stay here again for sure.

The hotel staff is amazing and the amenities are nice for what we are paying. It’s very family friendly - in the buffet restaurant they have cute dinnerware sets and bibs for kids and actual high chairs (the ones people use at home) and baby wipes warmed in small buckets of warm water. Love the option of private bath (additional 1500¥) and free massage chair use.

Hotel Okada is slightly further from the Station so recommend arranging Taxi services ahead of time if necessary.

Location is an older location but very well maintained. Appreciated the breakfast's buffet variety and available facilities.

We were there for a single overnight stay but definitely is worthy of a 2 or 3 night stay to relax.

Line for the shuttle can get long with all the hotels that are serviced.

Tatami room was definitely spacious and provided ample room for a small family if needed.

We stayed at the hotel Okada for two nights and one day. We had a private onsen and it was beautiful and relaxing. The service was exemplary. The amenities were amazing. The staff was incredibly kind and helpful. They made sure we got to our departure train on time, even though taxis weren’t running and the onsen/ryokan shuttle that runs through Hakone also hadn’t started yet. The buffet is expensive and while there are some standout items, I’m not sure it was worth it. But very convenient and nice to see everyone in their yukatas (provided by the hotel).

A traditional hotel with an abundance of old-world charm. We were so impressed by how well-maintained and clean this hotel was, as well as the warm friendly greetings we regularly received from staff who were positioned throughout the front lobby. Service and hospitality were top class. Buffet breakfast and dinner were great – a wide variety of choices were available. Family members with dietary requirements were generally able to find something that suited them and food was well-labelled. Visited Hakone for the woodwork (Yosegi Zaiku) rather than the hot springs so unfortunately cannot comment on the onsens. The walk from Hakone-Yumoto Station to the hotel can easily be done in around 20-30 minutes depending on how quickly you go. It is a very pleasant walk especially along the Sukumo River. However, if you are carrying a lot of luggage, a taxi would be the better option. Overall, this was a beautiful, well-run establishment and we really enjoyed our stay here.

Hotel Okada has an agreement with the hotspring spa next door. This was wonderful and unexpected. There is a convenient shuttle that goes to town for a very reasonable price. But there was no air-conditioning, so be careful going there if it is a hot season.

I miss Hotel Okada so much! Wish we had stayed 3 nights instead of 2. Or even more! 20 min walk into town if you can't catch a cab. Older hotel, but still very clean and comfortable. The onsen was such an incredible experience for us. THE BUFFET!!! Oh my lord, all you can eat sashimi and more! Different, traditional, Japanese food than what we are used to in North America. Grateful to be able to experience such an array of amazing food. 20/10 would recommend this place to stay. The service was lovely. There's even a little candy machine in the lobby for kids and the staff gave us tokens when we arrived for it, so the kids were thrilled. Koi fish swimming just outside. Wonderful gift shop. Do it. Book it.

Wow! This was by far my family’s favourite hotel we stayed at on our trip to Japan. Right from booking, the staff at Hotel Okada were amazing. They were always quick to respond to my questions, and when we arrived at the hotel they were welcoming and very helpful. We loved the buffet so much. So many options to choose from, we had two dinners and two breakfasts and my partner said he could have eaten there for a week. Of course our favourite part was our room. Both my partner and I are pretty heavily tattooed, so we booked a room with a private open air onsen and it was like heaven. So relaxing after the hustle and bustle of Tokyo, and our room overlooked the mountain and river. My daughter asked if we could just stay there for the rest of the trip. The western/traditional style room was soo cool, and perfectly equipped as well as clean. The cherry on top of it all were the traditional pjs and yakuta that each of got to wear. I honestly can’t speak highly enough of this hotel. Yes it is older, but it had everything I imagined when dreaming about one day going to a ryokan hotel.

I like the large room and breakfast buffet is way better than American continental. Foot bath and public onsen is also good experience. The only inconvenient part is that hotel is 25 min walk uphill. The suttle is limited with earliest 9:20 and latest 4:45. Otherwise you can take the taxi from the station for about 900 yen around probably before 6pm. We couldn’t reserve taxi around 8:30am but walk downhill with luggage is not bad vs walk uphill.

Customer service is topnotch! They explained everything about the hotel (dining, onsen, room, shuttle bus). The breakfast buffet was great! Lots of choices even with the drinks. They have free foot spa, and then the onsen was the best. So relaxing after a whole tiring day. Also, there is a free hot/cold variety of teas near the foot spa area which was really good. The room is clean, lots of freebies in the bathroom. There are also slippers with different sizes, and pajama which was really cool. There was a fantastic view of the mountain and the river in our room. All in all, we enjoyed our stay and will highly recommend this hotel. If given the chance to travel to Hakone again, I will choose this hotel again for sure.

The staff were very friendly but had a hard time explaining some things. Taxis take 30 min to come to the hotel to pick you up, plan way ahead. Train station is not close with bags, walking without is easy. Also all restaurants nearby close very early and not many.

Stayed for one night while in Hakone. The hotel was fine, and just fine. It was very dated and could do with a bit of investment. The room stank of smoke which was the worst bit. Beware, the hotel is about 20mins walk from the train station, which is fine and a lovely walk. The breakfast was good, lots of options both Japanese and western. The onsens were good and spacious. Overall, this was the most expensive hotel I stayed at in Japan and I would say the worst hotel - I’m sure there are better in the area.
