When we arrived, the staff talked us into taking a room in the adjoining property. They then charged us again for the room. This charge was refunded when questioned during checkout the next morning. The room in the adjoining property was in very bad shape. It was clean, but needed multiple repairs to doors, light fixtures, and other amenities. In my opinion, the room was not suitable for use as a hotel room, much less one for the steep price we paid for it.
Among items needing repair were the door to the patio, the bottom of which was rotted. The chandelier over the bed was not fully functional with bulbs of unequal brightness. The door to the unit was framed in new, unpainted wood. The tub frame had damaged tile. The curtains did not fit the windows being too narrow. Blinds over the tub were broken with missing slats. The toilet was stuck in a room just big enough for the toilet and uncomfortable to use. The room was noisy both from Beach traffic and other guests tromping up the nearby stairs. There was a dresser that was unusable because chairs were in front of it preventing it from being opened.
The bed was nice, but very high off the ground.
Our experience would have been much better if we had stayed in the main building. Staff, on checkout, showed us some of the rooms in the main building and they were much better. A room in the original building would have been a much better overall experience, quieter, and we would consider coming back for such a room.

Loved this hotel, staff super friendly, they have happy hour starting at 4pm where you can sit outside and enjoy a glass of wine with cheese and crackers. They have a fish pond with beautiful coy fish which are probably the biggest coy fish I've seen in a while.
We had room 6 which has a small private patio leading to the pool and main garden. The beach and pier are less than a block away. I highly recommend it.

This is a charming place, but completely uncomfortable and rundown.
This property has no idea about sound proofing. In my room I could hear everything that was happening inside and outside the hotel: people talking, steps, running water, water flushing, people showering, doors closing, doors opening. More over, that was happening throughout all the nights. If you want any night rest, do not choose this place.
The place needs serious fixing. In the room I stayed, the shutters were all broken, the balcony was rusty, even scary to step on.
It has lots of decorations, looks like, they emptied all the flea markets around. The \"antique\" furniture, statues, all over the place. This creates its charm. If only it comfortable and clean.
The good thing about Villa Rosa is the location. It is a walking distance everywhere: train station, downtown, fisherman wharf, harbor, even the Old Mission, if you are for an exercise.

I am 46 years old and travel frequently with my wife. We have stayed in many hotels over the years and rarely experience any issues. Unfortunately, our stay at your hotel was extremely disappointing. expected a much higher level of service and professionalism. On our first night, we went out during the day and returned to find that our room had not been cleaned. We politely spoke with the receptionist, explained that we were supposed to place the door tag outside indicating that we wanted the room cleaned.However, this was never clearly explained to us during check-in. The tag itself has “Do Not Disturb” on one side and “Please Clean the Room” on the other side, but no one informed us about this process. When I originally asked Jonathan if there was anything important we needed to know about the room or hotel procedures, he did not provide any explanation. He appeared unsure and unprepared to assist us.Although we were disappointed, we understood that mistakes can happen. The following day, we made sure to place the tag outside the door indicating that the room needed cleaning. We returned after 5:00 PM and once again found the room untouched and still dirty.We again approached respectfully to ask about the situation, but he seemed uninterested and unable to help. He simply told us we would need to wait for the manager. We also requested fresh towels, which were never delivered. poorly maintained and had visible mold, Overall, terrible horrible Hotel not recommended.

The stay here was unusual. The reviews on Expedia did not match my experience. Let’s start with the parking, it’s practically impossible to find a decent parking spot and the ones in the alley way are less than par. Upon checking in I was asked to write my info on a note pad and was given the keys to my room with no sleeve for them or a pamphlet of the property. My first room was located in a separate building from main one and you can tell that people actually lived there as well. It was super dated, loud neighbors and street noise. Asked to get another room, I ended up in another separate building. The wall mount ac unit didn’t work and the hot tub jets didn’t either. Ran into a housekeeper with zero cleaning supplies or any type of uniform asking if everything was okay. All in all, it was an unpleasant stay. One perk is that you’re near the beach. Save your money and go stay somewhere else.

The best thing about this property is the location! So close to the beach, the wharf, State street shopping and restaurants. We walked everywhere. The hotel itself is older, not recently updated, but we loved its funky antique charm. Our room was dated but it fit with the charm of the rest of the property. No air conditioning but it wasn’t necessary. We had a cool ocean breeze every night through the window. The room was as clean as it could be considering the age of the building… and the beds were not top of the line but still comfortable. If you’re not super picky, you will enjoy the charm of this place. We will definitely come back!

This property is exquisite. My room was on the first floor, at my request. In most cases, my room at best faces a parking lot. In this case my room faced a couple of pools. I got to see a child and its mother in the larger pool, a German Shepard type dog exploring a smaller pool or spa, and its owners sitting nearly talking a having breakfast. And the area was filled with plants and statures. Instead of feeling lonely, I was part of a community of people, plants and artwork.

Spectacular! In every way. Our check in was easy, the staff was helpful and informative. Our room was large with comfortable beds and a sitting area. We were on floor 2 with a balcony and a view of the ocean. Villa Rosa is an easy walk to the wharf and State Street. There is a complimentary wine and cheese offering in the afternoon and breakfast in the morning. We didn't swim but did have wine in the courtyard. Villa Rosa is a beautiful boutique hotel!

this hotel is our favorite for Santa Barbara weekend getaways! a half a block from the beach = walking distance to the pier and several great restaurants... and it's super cute. pool and hottub area are nice and quiet... lots of statues and plants throughout. staff is friendly and helpful, although front desk isn't manned 24hrs, they are responsive. it's an old building and the decor is antique-ish, but comfortable. definitely recommend!

I booked two nights and was not able to arrive for the first night. I called the hotel and left a message asking them to call me to confirm that they would keep the second night. I also said I was fine with nor refund for the second night. I messaged them the same through Expedia and their website and sent them an e-mail. I received a phone call after midnight on the first day of check in and spent 45 minutes for them to confirm they would keep the second night active. I stay there every year when I go out to see my Retina Specialist and have always had a nice experience, but there is a major gap there with communication. That is why I gave them a 3, although this experience was a 1.

Perfect location steps from beach. 3 minute walk to Amtrak station, restaurants, bars, museums, State St, shopping. Pool, spa, continental breakfast and evening wine and hors douvres, no resort feee or parking fees. So while this is an older hotel, given that we only used it for sleeping and the room was clean, we think this was great value for money compared with other hotels in the same vicinity.

Pros: Location is excellent and beautiful, walking distance from the beach and restaurants. Room was very spacious, super clean, equipped kitchen, bery impressed, staff was friendly and helpful.
Cons: breakfast is very light continental and was okay but no meats such as eggs or sausages, carbs only but maybe because of kitchen in room. The front desk only has 1 computer so it was slow check in and staff walks away or missing or busy. During check out nobody was there and said back in 20 minutes but we had to leave.

The line to check in was very long, and rooms weren’t ready even though it was after 3:00 because apparently a housekeeper went home sick. The hotel was very understaffed. It seemed that there were only two people on site, and the desk clerk had to leave the desk to take people to their rooms. After 5:00, it seemed that there was only one person on site who was trying to work the desk and take needed items to rooms causing long waits at the desk. We never got the extra towel we requested. The desk clerk was very nice and trying to be helpful but was just overwhelmed. Off street parking is very limited and on-street parking is limited to 90 minutes during business hours. This property could be a true gem but needs some serious love and better staffing.

There is something quaint and magical about the Villa Rosa Inn with an ineffable quality. If you love Rome, Italy, and if you love fountains, have an appreciation of Koi fish, with a passion for spotlessly clean swimming pool that looks like it was updated and rebuilt, and a hot tub spa that really works well, then you will love the Villa Rosa Inn. There is no such thing as perfection, and Villa Rosa is not perfect (the mattress was not comfortable in my room and neither were the pillows but the room was spotlessly CLEAN!!!); the whole complex lives and breathes character from another time and place. The fountains throughout are not to be believed. The lovely Spanish tiled \"Casa\" within and throughout is filled with history, art, and you can tell that every crevice, fountain, statue, painting, and potted plant has a story. I would insist on a room with a better mattress, but if I were to ask myself: Would I return Villa Rosa Inn to stay again? INDEED, I would!!! It was so peaceful and quiet, and it's just a block from the ocean, with some rooms facing the ocean.

Parking is a challenge, which was unexpected, but it did NOT cost extra. It's not easy to get a parking spot.

Yet, because of how quaint, quirky, and unique in quality Villa Rosa was, when I return to Santa Barbara, I will indeed make my way back to this Inn with pleasure.

The Villa Rosa Inn is a very European feeling inn. Would feel like it belongs on the French or Italian Riviera! A perfect Vibe for Santa barbara! You can say Charming warm- French country even shabby chic for descriptive terms I will definitely return it makes it truly a memorable stay in Santa Barbara my only criticism and this is my third stay is the front desk seems somewhat unorganized and they're often missing. Another caveat is this hotel as an additional fee on top of the hotels.com reservation price but the very clear and open about it. Yes I will come back and stay again! Soon!

We stayed in a room for 4–6 people and overall it was a great option for a group. The room was spacious, had a partial ocean view, a full kitchen, easy check-in, and the location was very convenient and close to everything.

One downside was the hidden fees. The price shown is not the final price, and although the total was still affordable, you don’t know the final amount until after checkout when they bill you, which we didn’t love.

As you can see in the pictures, this is not a 5-star hotel. The furniture and fixtures aren’t new, but they were nice enough, well organized, clean, and comfortable for a group stay.

We didn’t use the other amenities or go to breakfast, but the breakfast area (like the waffle makers) looked old and didn’t seem very hygienic. The interior of the hotel feels a bit like an antique store, so keep in mind it’s not going to feel modern or spotless.

The Villa Rosa Inn canceled my reservation because they said the price I got it at was too low (as if that were my fault) and that they were trying to update their Expedia account to increase the price for one night. Can you imagine the mess if all hotels acted this way whenever we booked a room at a good discount that the hotel itself advertised? Just insane.

The hotel was located in a great place but that’s the best part of this review.
Unfortunately, when we arrived at 3pm (as directed) the hotel was under staff with only one person and a line ten groups deep. Rooms were not ready and not enough staff to service the line of guests. The reception area was cluttered with so much random stuff that there wasn’t much seating or standing area. There was an aquarium with dead fish and a lot eclectic furniture. The interior is dark and dingy with reflections of the haunted mansion. The staffing did their best to check everyone in, be we didn’t get our room till 6:30pm. The room was clean but not really comfortable. There so much that needs be updated just to bring the hotel into the 2000s. I couldn’t recommend this unless you are in a pinch. It was definitely a disappointment.

I was extremely disappointed with my stay at this Inn. The rooms felt very neglected and poorly maintained, and the property overall looks old and worn. The bathroom had visible mold on the walls, which is unacceptable and concerning from a health standpoint.

Noise was a constant issue. There was very loud noise coming from neighboring rooms and from above, especially whenever someone used the shower. The pipes made an extremely loud noise for the entire duration of the water running, making it difficult to rest or sleep.

Front desk service was also lacking. After 6 PM, there was no staff available—only a note instructing guests to call a number. I tried calling and left messages, but no one ever answered or returned the calls.

Although the Inn advertises free breakfast, the quality was very poor. The food selection was bad, and on one occasion there was so much smoke coming from the waffle station that it felt like a fire was about to start, which was alarming.
I stayed for three nights, and during that time there was no room service at all. Trash was never collected, and the room was not attended to in any way.

Overall, this stay did not come close to justifying the amount of money charged. The lack of maintenance, service, cleanliness, and responsiveness made this a very disappointing experience. I would not recommend this Inn based on my stay.

We weren’t able to check in until 6:30. The room wasn’t available and the poor staff was unsupported. There was only one person available to check everyone in at 3pm when we were told to come. There was a line 10 people deep.
The hotel has the most eclectic and weirdest interiors. There isn’t enough parking for guests, and rental bikes as listed in on site. Have low expectations and it’s a place to lay your head, then you’re fine. The location is great but I can’t say much more.

The hotel is great unique and with an antique Spanish flair however they could probably think about better use of space because it’s too cluttered. The rooms are clean it’s just that the sheets are a bit smelly and scratchy. Parking is limited too but considering the area it is a good option.
