Our stay at Villa Maria Tayrona was absolutely perfect. We had the deluxe double room that had a stunning all around sea and jungle view. The food was great, the staff was incredibly accommodating and so very friendly. The beach is at a 7min walk on a beautifully adorned and paved walkway. If you are looking for a quiet place in the middle of nature with a jungle feel but close to the sea I definitely recommend this place. We came during the holiday season for our beach wedding our stay made this special week even more magical. We will definitely be back!

We really enjoyed our stay for 3 nights. Perfect relaxing place. Cesar at the desk and Ricardo the Porter were very friendly and helpful. We took the bus 5 minutes to the park entrance and it was very easy. We also took the bus up the other way to the walk/hike to the Enchanted Pools. They organized a good and reasonably price taxi to Cartagena at the end. The beach is also a short walk and you can pay a few dollars for chairs under an umbrella and theres waves but nice to swim there. The hotel can help organize some excursions and we should have done one but were too lazy to decide on one and commit to a time.

Other the hotel there aren’t many other places to eat, we did try the cafe at the end of the road (Raíz Cafe) and it had good ice coffee and vegetarian sandwiches.

My only recommendation is that the hotel have a few more vegan/vegetarian options with protein for dinner (like even beans, rice, avocado and plátanos would be perfect). And add yogurt for breakfast.

My partner and I stayed two nights at the property. We 100 would go back. The property grounds are stunning, your transformed to a jungle oasis and the morning sunrises kept amazing us each day. The staff were what made this place, they use WhatsApp so you can always text any questions and can arrange pick up and drop off to Tyrona park. Like I said would stay again

Highly recommended!

I visited Villa Maria in 2023 by myself on business and was absolutely stunned with the entire stay. Enough so, I brought my fiance back with me just recently to experience all Villa Maria had to offer. The jungle location, the short beautiful walk to the ocean, comfortable and clean accomodations, to the super friendly management, grounds staff, restaurant staff, and wonderful food and drink, Villa Maria is a great and beautiful experience. The descriptions were inaccurate. I paid for a luxury bungalow which is supposed to have a complete ocean view, however it was jungle view only. We also had no running water!! It was simply not as described.

The hotel is located in a beautiful place very close to the Tayrona National Park, surrounded by astonishing tropical vegetation! The cabins are well-made, comfortable, they have a great bath and shower, and they offer incredible views from their balconies (in our case, of the vegetation and mountains). The personnel, in general, are accommodating and efficient (although not totally trained in local tourism).The location is great since it is 15 minutes away by car or bus to the Tayrona National Park and to the beaches of Mendihuaca / Costeño Beach (the best beaches nearby, besides the ones from the park). It is also 40 minutes away from the beaches of Palomino.

Now, let’s talk about some disappointments:

1. This hotel doesn’t offer a good getaway to the beach. The 10 minutes path to the beach from the reception of the hotel is nice (you walk through a tropical garden) until you get to an open sewage drainage and walk alongside this drainage. After this unpleasant section, you get to a small and public beach that has a local bar and restaurant.

2. The hotel’s restaurant is kind of pricey for the quality and quantity of the food. The menu is not small but doesn’t offer many healthy, vegetarian and varied options. The food also tends to be salty.

3. The pool is nice and meets its purpose, but is a small pool for the size of the hotel.

4. The staff is not trained to offer consistent suggestions and orientations about local destinations and activities.

The pool area has plentiful seating and shade, and the water temperature is perfect. The staff is friendly and attentive, and the restaurant food is good. Room didn’t have hot water, took them hours to fix. Bed was full of dirt and sand, we had to clean ourselves before we got into it. No screen door on the patio. No internet or potable water in rooms. No coffee machine and they tried to charge me for coffee in morning at restaurant in spite of included breakfast. No phones in room, no room service, anything you want you have to walk to the restaurant, and they’re quite slow. All in all, this place is poorly managed and waaaaay overpriced.

I loved that it was in the jungle and that they had a friendly parrot that hung out there regularly. The beach is a 5 min walk and unsafe for swimming. The restaurant has a lot of fried food and not as many colombian options as one would hope. The shower pressure was inadequate to wash anything but a crewcut. The staff was very very nice but unfortunately the front staff did not let us know Tayrona park tickets must be purchased the day BEFORE online (and internet connection was poor so didn't try purchasing till the day we went) so waited 1.5hrs in line which was easily preventable. I do not recommend the family room - looked beautiful in online photo (two floors) but very ding and above the restaurant (loud)...we got moved to a one bedroom that was quite snug for four people but at least a little quieter (you hear your neighbours below you of course).

Awesome property with small bungalows for your stay. Fun place to be if you're looking to go into Tayrona each day. Comfortable beds and killer views. I'd definitely stay there again.

Keep in mind, if you have mobility issues, this place is not for you. The pictures don't show the stairs, the suspension bridge and all the walkways connecting the bungalows. You're immersed in the trees which means you're doing small hikes to and from the restaurant.

Hot water was finicky but it's hot and humid out so it's not too big of a deal.

All the wifi reviews are accurate...there isn't much in the way of connectivity and there aren't tvs si be prepared to escape it all.

Food was good for where you are. Better than you'll get otherwise in the middle of nowhere. Just realize that service is very slow. But remember, it's like an isolated d escape, so relax and sit back.

The hotel was great! We stayed in a room with a sea view and it was great and very clean! Although the hotel is on the main road, the rooms are quite far from there so it requires a long walk with the bags.

Beautiful property, great service

We arrived and were promptly checked in and given information about the hotel and visiting Tayrona. We stayed in room 26 for 3 nights and it was just perfect. We had an amazing view of the sea, and sleeping surrounded by nature was surreal.

Breakfast options are limited but completely sufficient if you're staying a couple of days. We had dinner here all three nights too. The food and service are good and pricing is super affordable.

The beach is around a 10 minute walk away on a well identified pathway. The water was too rough for us, but good enough to dip your feet in. The beach bar is manned by a really nice gentleman. The service is excellent! We had lunch one day on the beach and it was good.

The nice gentleman at the front desk helped us book Tayrona tickets online and printed them for us. They provide a free shuttle service twice in the morning and twice in the afternoon to/from the park. The park is gorgeous and there are several beaches you can stop at during the walk. I have to say I was a little disappointed that we didn't spot much wildlife, but not surprising with the amount of people there.

We spent a couple of late afternoons by the pool, sipping on cocktails. It was super peaceful.

Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to have a beautiful and peaceful time away from it all, yet with the right amenities for a comfortable stay.

Beautiful accommodations in an isolated area. Only place to get food/drinks (including water) is at the hotel restaurant. However, food was very good. Hotel located on a beautiful beach where there are very few people. People should not swim in ocean due to strong current and huge waves.

We loved staying in a jungle bungalow! This is a beautiful hotel where you you get to be a bit more remote and in nature. Ocean view room was amazing. The restaurant in site was amazing, everything we had was delicious. It was confusing when we arrived as we took a bus from Santa Marta, got to the Villa Maria gate and started knocking. No one answered, and then a local came over and opened the gate for us. It’s a 5 or so minute walk where we didn’t see anyone, but when we finally got to reception, all was well. Lots of different plant and animal species to explore here. Suspension bridge to our room was fun :) Would definitely go back

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food was average. The room they gave ya was right above the kitchen so not very quiet. The room should have been checked before check in as one of the window seams was broken letting all kinds of little bugs in. We were bitten a lot during our stay. The pool is located on a beautiful hilltop but walking there at night is not lit enough to deter the critters. The turtles are really cute and there is a beautiful path that takes you around the property.

Perfect Tayrona hotel

Perfect staff, peacefull garden full of flowers and hummingbirds.
Tayrona Park entrance is less than 10 minutes free shuttle ride from the hotel.
The pool is really pleasant after a hike day in Tayrona.
The family room above the kitchen can be a little bit noisy in the morning.

An Oasis in the park \n

Villa Maria has a lovely spot, high in the hills, surrounded by lush vegetation. BUT, there are things to know. The walkways are steep and without railings in most places, so if you have mobility issues this might not be for you.
Staff is very nice and try to be helpful. Rooms are large, WiFi is iffy in rooms, AC and bathrooms are ok. Some rooms have large balconies to enjoy the view, others, cramped.
Food is generally good, though boring after awhile. Love the pool. Nice walk to hotel's beach access. Sea can be rough and dangerous.

Let Down Hotel

Sadly villa Maria Tayrona is a let down. It is in a very good location but the hotel is very shabby and food is not at all up to standard - even the house salad was inedible. Beds are uncomfortable. Bedding all old. Towels in bathroom well used and mildew in shower. Generally the place needs an uplift. The pool area has a mismatch of uncomfortable loungers, no towels unless you are told or remember to collect from reception which is some way away. Built to give you the least view of the area. Even the beach was not enticing, the 'beach bar' was very shabby and scruffy. No attempt to clean up the area has been made and the sun loungers as well as being incredibly uncomfortable are also ugly with strange blue tents over them. We found we neither wanted to sit by the pool nor the beach.
Of course there are varying hotel levels but we were lead to believe by a reputable travel agent that this was the best hotel in the area, but if you are used to staying in good hotels, this hotel comes as a bit of shock. One of my main gripes however was actually that there was construction of new hotel huts happening right by the pool, and no attempt by the hotel to warn us before arrival, which I would expect from any hotel in the world. Had we known there was construction happening next to the pool we would never have chosen the hotel. The staff - who are very nice - were patient with my complaints but nothing could be done to stop the angle grinding going on next to us!

We were impressed by this hotel and its surroundings. Food was great and room was modern and spotless. The views were spectacular from the room. Staff was courteous and efficient. The administrator and his wife were extremely kind and helpful, taking time to chat with us and give us a tour. I could not have chosen a better place to stay. I highly recommend it.

A gem on the Caribbean

There is nothing we did not like about our stay. If we could have rearranged our travels after seeing how wonderful the location and the service were we would have stayed longer. The beach was the nicest we saw on the Caribbean, and we had it almost to ourselves. The hotel offered a free shuttle to Tayrona Park and the pool was wonderful to return to after a full day at the Park.

The rooms were much nicer than any other options I noticed near Tayrona park. The free morning breakfast is made to order (short list of options, but very good). The location grounds are great and quiet. The pool is very nice. Excellent 5 minute walk to the beach where Jorge helps serve the Tayrona bar at the beach.

Loved this hotel!

We absolutely loved our visit at Villa Maria! Every member of the staff was so friendly and willing to help with any questions or requests. The rooms were just what we needed - a wonderful, modern bathroom, a big bed, and a nice balcony with views of the ocean. The hotel is very close to an entrance of Tayrona National Park (which we hiked), and also went tubing down a nearby river, per the suggestion of the staff. The place is very hilly with lots of stairs so I wouldn't recommend for someone with difficulty walking up hills, but otherwise, I would ABSOLUTELY recommend this hotel! Also, the beach at the hotel is great.

Amazing hotel to relax and do nothing!!!

A great one night stay here after completing the lost city trek. This was our wee treat. It's pretty remote but the grounds and rooms are amazing. We had deluxe rooms and it was worth every penny. There is wi fi but it can be a bit tempramental. The food is good and there is a happy hour between 4-6. 2 4 1 cocktails!!! Well worth a visit.

A bit of a disappointment

Hotel is beautifully located but there is not much to do in the evening. The WiFi wasn't working and the shower was constantly changing from super hot to super cold. It was virtually not possible to take a shower. When we mentioned that to the staff they seemed to know about the problems with shower and promised to fixed it but they didn't during our stay.
