I truly appreciate the Lodge and understand that there are probably financial constraints that prevent renovation or remodeling: the National Parks system is AMAZING and the lodges are in beautiful locations and affordable. Peaks of Otter is a lovely, accessible location. But the air conditioner was very old and very loud, and the blinds didn't work because the cords were broken. Aside from that, everything was wonderful: inexpensive dining and lodging in a beautiful location. Thank you!

We love this place. That said this year we arrived during a power outage and had been placed in a pet friendly room (we did not have pets with us). I said it would be okay as they couldn't move us due to power outage. The room was not up to par as it has lots of hair (pet and human?) all over one of the beds. Our porch was also missing both chairs.

That said we love the property. Dinner at the lodge was amazing. As this was our 5th year, we will be back next year and hope this year was just a fluke with the room.

Surprised that for the price they charge, that the rooms had cinderblock walls.. never stayed in a hotel that didn't cover those walls with drywall. Not enough towels for the three of us. LOOOOONG walk to the front desk to correct any thing we needed.

Advisory: One or two flights of stairs to get to room.. no elevator or luggage carts.

Great views and good restaurant though expensive.

Tucked into the mountains and overlooking a small lake, this is a very special place to stay. It's perfect if you want to continue your national park experience overnight, but prefer a very comfy bed over a tent. I can't recall the last time I encountered such warm, welcoming staff. They helped make this a very memorable part of our travels and we hope to return soon.

Building and rooms dated and not well maintained. No phones in rooms. Housekeeping on request only and they don't make your bed. No buffet breakfast everyday, weekdays a la carte and in average more expensive than lunch or dinner. No refrigerator ($20 per day) nor microwave. Restaurant dinner anounced until 9pm , until you find that on Sundays it closes at 8pm (not anounced anywhere). Our bathroom had a broken acrylic window, never fixed even in requested several times. Whole stay very disappointed, except for the exceptional location and views.

We had three nights at Peaks of Otter Lodge. We loved the nostalgic feel to the lodge. Rooms aren't fancy here. But very clean. And the view from every room is stunning. The grounds were well manicured. Such a peaceful place.
The restaurant staff was wonderful. The food was delicious.
We are so glad we chose this beautiful place to celebrate our 45th anniversary.

We liked our stay. The blinds did not go up and because some strings were frayed and there was a bit of mold in the bathroom. They view was wonderful and we saw lots of deer. 1 night stay $183.00. Walked into room and it stunk like mildew, wet carpet, locker room that has never been cleaned. Carpet was old and felt greasy and stringy. First time staying here and it was a bad experience. I will not be back. The lady at the front desk was rude for no reason. Gave me a weird look for no reason. She asked for my ID and I tried handing it to her. She asked for it again and gave me a weird look?? The guy next to her ended up helping me instead. There were poop stains on my toilet. How do they not clean that?? Stains in the room. The property it is on is incredible though. Truly beautiful area. Staff are rude and just that alone I will never be back again.

Peaks of Otter is showing its age. The rooms have a small AC unit that can barely keep up. The WiFi in the rooms is weak, which is a problem since there is no cellular service here. Our door latch did not work because it was missing a screw. I had to move a screw from the patio door.
The check in process was super slow. We waited in line for over 20 minutes. They would not allow anyone to check in before 4pm, even though rooms were ready. So the line was long.
However, the restaurant food was very good and the staff there was excellent. Very friendly and attentive.
And of course the setting on the lake is as beautiful as ever.

We had a very quick overnight stay, and did arrive fairly late. Even though we had contacted the hotel that we were coming, we still had to wait a good 10 minutes for any staff member to check us in. The hotel rooms were dated but clean. The location is BEAUTIFUL. Overall it worked fine for what my family needed for the evening..

Very nice place to stay if you’re looking for a little mountain getaway! The views itself makes this little treasure well worth it. The staff were outstandingly kind and helpful during our stay. The rooms themselves remind me of camping lodges, but that honestly just adds to the outdoorsy feeling. The food was good too. Now the road closures weren’t my favorite so plan accordingly as it took us an extra hour to get there lol. Overall, would totally come back!

We had a fabulous stay at Peaks of Otter Lodge. It’s a great place, but what made it better was the front desk person, Emma. We stayed there during a 7 day Skyline Drive/Blue Ridge Parkway bike ride. She actually called me while I was in the middle of a 12 mile uphill to see if we’d need anything when we arrived. When we met at the desk she was welcoming and gave us local knowledge about roads, trails, etc. and was a delight to talk to. She was able to help us with specific requests which made our travels so much easier. Restaurant and bar service and food really good.

This is a beautiful property and we have stayed here once before.
Overall the staff was very nice and helpful. We were not happy with the check in procedure. The app says 3pm check in. Their actual check in is at 4 pm. As we waited patiently in the lobby for almost an hour we were a little surprised when a couple came in at 3:50 pm and were checked in. No acknowledgment that we were there first or any interaction until we made the effort to get checked in.
Even so , we highly recommend this property!

The room was fine. Bed clean. Only had shampoo and body wash in the bathroom. One towel, no wash cloths or hand soap. Big blue stain in the shower. Checking in was a pain. Tried multiple times but they couldn’t get us in. Had an event at 530 pm so we had to leave and couldn’t check in until 11pm. In the morning we called the front desk 3 different times between 7-830 am. No one answered so we walked over to the office and there were 2 people at the desk. Won’t be back.

We ended up checking out a couple of hours after arrival. The room was clean but needs a serious upgrade. There were a lot of dogs there and we were concerned we would not get any sleep overnight. The restaurant's buffet was empty when we went for dinner and the bar has minimal options. However, the scenery was absolutely beautiful!

Overall cleanliness at the lodge was good. One minor issue when we first checked in.

There does need to be more coordination between the on site staff and the company running the location. It sounded like the front staff did not have the answers for many questions from the people staying.

We love the site and have been staying there most years after spending our honeymoon there 51 years ago. We were joined this year by friends from Texas and they loved it.

Peaks of Otter Lodge was very busy. But that was to be expected given it was peak leaf season. The accommodations were comfortable and clean. The view of the lake was amazing. We dined in the bar. As season closing was coming up shortly, it seemed they were a little short staffed for the number of clients even in midweek. I think the weekends will be packed. The food was absolutely amazing though, so well worth any wait. It was also convenient, being right on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Our stay was less than satisfactory. The room smelled old and musty. There were multiple flies in the room when we checked in . There was one hand towel on the bed and it was damp. There were only tea and decaf coffee keurig cups. We did go to the front desk and were given 2 clean, dry hand towels as well as some caffeinated keurig cups. The restaurant was understaffed. The first day we waited 10 minute before a host even came to the host stand. Then had an hour wait to be seated. The waitress at lunch was wonderful though. Although the skillet cookie and berry crisp were both out of stock. We were told they’d be back for dinner, but they were both out AGAIN. For dinner we ordered out to take back to our room as the wait was 60-90 minutes. The food was cold and although we ordered ice cream with our chocolate torte, neither of us received the ice cream. Breakfast was ok - Holly kept forgetting things (honey for tea, more hot water and coffee). This is all for a one night stay. The property was beautiful but the price was overpriced.

We arrived for check-in ontime. After waiting for at least 30 minutes we were given keys to a room that was not cleaned after the prior guests left. I went back to wait in line, about 20 minutes, to ask for a clean room. While waiting for assistance I noticed the other guests waiting for clean rooms, and they had been waiting 4 hours for their room to be cleaned. I was given new keys to a \"clean\" room. The door to that room was locked with a deadbolt so I could not get in. At this point the front desk clerk offered several folks refunds so I decided to get my reservation refunded. I did not get the full refund and asked the front desk clerk why. She indicated to me that her supervisor had access to the full charges and she did not have that access herself. Her supervisor left her alone to manage the front desk. She promised me she would tell her manager my phone number and email to contact me to discuss a full refund. I have waited 5 days, no contact. Very upset and frustrated with this hotel. I recommend going to the Blue Ridge Mountains but stay in a town nearby not this hotel.

Probably the worst lodging experience I have ever experienced. Discovered upon arriving at the room that they had put us in a Pet Friendly room. I did not ask for a Pet Friendly room because I don’t have a pet, and more importantly because I all allergic to pet dander. When I returned to the front desk to ask about it, it was clear that they knew all along they were placing us in the wrong room. The desk clerk said, “yes, sorry but we can’t move you tonight.” There were no more than 20 cars in the parking lot! This lodge is on the Blue Ridge Parkway, in a very remote location in the mountains of VA. There are no restaurants on the parkway or nearby. We had traveled all day and were starving. Really looking forward to a nice relaxing dinner. We went into the restaurant at the lodge at 8:00. Every website or printed material about the restaurant stated they were open until 9. While waiting to be seated a server said, “we close at 8 on Sunday.” The posted hours said 9, the website said 9, the pamphlets and flyers said 9. The clerk said, “yeah, they should really change that on the website.” We were on top of a mountain with nothing around us at 8:30 on a Sunday night. We had not eaten since 7:00 am and there were no other options. Worse, we checked in at the front desk directly across from the restaurant at 7;00. The desk clerk never said a word about the restaurant closing at 8, And..,,, the coffee bar had no creamer or sugar, the room stayed too warm and stuffy all night

The Peaks of Otter hotel looked nice online, but it had a few flaws. First, the rooms were not very clean. It is not a new hotel and it is tatty, I think. The worst thing, though, was the buffet on Sunday night. This wasn't mentioned in the reviews I read online, as I wouldn't have gone to a buffet. Anyway, there were few choices: Fried chicken was the only main dish. There were green beans that had the oddest flavor, as if there were a rancid ingredient in them. The dessert table was just awful. In all, I wished that I hadn't eaten there. I would never, ever go back to the Peaks of Otter hotel.

Playing 80's Rock in the dining room is totally inappropriate for that lakeside setting ( and I like music but it's terrible the ambiance desired at the Peals ding room. Soft music or something like mountain dulcimer would be fitting). Waited 20 min for fresh chicken- 3 old wings were all that was available. Rolls were hard from sitting a long time. Experience could be so much more and cost creating that heightened experience would be recovered from increased business volume. Badly need visionary management team.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Peaks of Otter Lodge. The lodge may feel a little dated, but it is very clean and well looked after. Our room was comfortable, with a good bed and beautiful views of the lake and mountains.

Dinner and breakfast at the lodge restaurant were both very tasty, with fresh food and generous portions. The staff were attentive and friendly, which made the experience even better.

It’s a unique and peaceful place to stay — especially if you want to enjoy the scenery of the Blue Ridge Parkway.

The Lodge offers simple rooms with comfortable beds and an awesome view of Abbott Lake and nearby mountains. Staff is friendly and helpful. Restaurant was quite good and super convenient. Don’t miss the walk around the lake, which is paved and accessible. It’s a great pre- or post-dinner stroll and we enjoyed it. Excellent stop while taking in the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway! The lodge is older, but very clean with nice beds and linens. I do miss a fridge and microwave in the rooms, but the restaurant staff were very accommodating to provide hot water for my tea. The beauty surrounding the lodge is unbeatable. Love the chairs outside to sit and enjoy the quiet beauty of the lake and Sharp Top. Such a peaceful place! We enjoyed hiking on the many trails right here. Hope to come back!!

For the price, I felt that the breakfast buffet options were not much better, if not similar to the standard free complimentary fare one finds at hotels along the Interstate. Watery eggs, paper thin bacon, greasy sausage, cold pancakes, etc.. The Brunswick Stew was cold when served, my BLT was greasy, and the waffle fries were dry and over cooked. The room was indeed clean, with the exception of the dirty and stained wine glass, torn paper towel roll, and dirty paper cups found in the chest of drawers in one of the only drawers that could be opened.

The accommodations appeared clean but I question the carpet from the 70's as it did not feel like it was clean. It just gave me a feeling a very uncomfortable feeling due to how much it could hide. Also, as we left, I noticed our room was marked \"No Pets\" and we had a dog. This could be a serious problem for someone who is allergic. The rooms really need updating badly. I felt like I was camping in a cabin. I haven't stayed in a lodge or hotel with an outer screen door. The caulk around the tub was coming off and the grout was either missing or moldy. It was hard to tell. I can't say that I have ever seen a slot to put your razors in the tile, which didn't seem to have a way to empty if you did use it.

The property is beautiful and the staff are friendly. Being as secluded as it is, I wish there were more dining choices other than buffet or a better to go selection in case you arrive after the dining room is closed. I have a hard time believing this is a 3 star hotel. I have stayed in 2 star ones that have had more amenities. I do like that they are pet friendly and the atmosphere is warm and friendly. It is just the rooms that I had a problem with.

Just off of the Blue Ridge Parkway, this nugget offers a tranquil view of peaks and lake. Pleasant easy walk path around the lake also takes you the lodge and dining.

The Lodge is amazing but our experience at the lodge restaurant was not that great. Food and drinks took forever and there was a mix up with my food and the quality was not good

I have never had such an awful experience at a hotel in my life. The Peaks of Otter Hotel was completely unacceptable. Our room was infested with bed bugs AND fleas – an absolute health hazard. We woke up with multiple bites, and upon closer inspection, we saw the bugs crawling on the mattress and headboard. It was beyond disgusting.

When we reported the issue, the response from staff was shockingly inadequate. There was no urgency, no real apology, and no offer to compensate us for the horrible situation. To make matters worse, the staff was rude and awful to us when we asked about a refund, which is completely unacceptable given the circumstances. This level of negligence is inexcusable, especially for a property that charges these rates and claims to provide a quality experience.

For your own health and safety, avoid this hotel at all costs. I will be contacting the local health department to file a formal complaint because this is a serious sanitation problem. Do not risk bringing bed bugs or fleas home from this place.
