We had an amazing 3 nights and couldn’t be happier with our time and beautiful new memories we have made as a family.
Biggest stand out is the staff - nothing was too much trouble. Restaurant staff were amazing, happy to improvise our breakfast requests and make us feel welcomed.

Swimming with the turtles was breathtaking & will remain a memorable experience for all of us.

I’d like to add - before our arrival we had read so many reviews & some of them negative towards the day trippers, so we weren’t quite sure what to expect - but aside from it being busy around the cafe, bar and other eating areas, overall it really wasn’t that bad. By 4pm when the last lot of day trippers had left, you had the whole island to guests only. It really was something special and I highly recommend a stay if you are thinking about it.

This was a dream come true stay for the one day we stayed. (We were evacuated our second day due to cyclone). The staff went above and beyond. The room was great. You get a lot of extra amenities included like the transfer to and from the island, snorkeling and the glass bottom boat tour. The best part was after 430 the day tourists left and we had the whole island to ourselves with only 29 guests staying over night. Overall it was the best day of vacation I ever had.

first of all, the staff have been very accommodating and helpful. however i noticed the rooms are outdated with rusts and the pool noticeably unclean. the beach though is amazing, the glass bottom boat tour is highly recommended.

Wonderful, unique island, great staff, friendly. Reef suites are a classic design and spotlessly clean and spacious. Terrific snorkelling off beach beside pier, on the fringe and outer reef. The various reefs ARE in great shape with healthy coral and myriad fish. Dive shop team led by the extraordinary Craig, are outstanding. Emerald Restaurant's current food offering is expensive and virtually inedible. This was our 5th, five night stay on Green Island. Everything, except the restaurant met our high expectations. Resort is not viable unless the restaurant and food offering on the island are dramatically upgraded to competitive global standards.

The resort is small and has a feel of luxury. The room was large and the woodwork in the room was gorgeous. The bathroom was well appointed and the veranda backed on to rainforest. The room felt very private and you are not overlooked by other guests. The pool area was very relaxing and the staff were very friendly. It felt like a private island after the day guests left at 4.30. Highly recommended, you would not be disappointed.

If you are in cairns just for the Great Barrier Reef, then maybe you are better off just staying in a nice resort and going by boat and checking out the reef and coming back. The green island resort is definitely eco-touristy in the sense that it is on the island but the number of tourists that come during daytime is insane during peak periods and you feel like u r in a Disney theme resort. It was nice that we could come back from our snorkel tour, take shower and immediately take a nap vs. wait for the afternoon boat tour to go back to Cairns. Just not sure if it was worth the nearly 450 dollars or so a night for the room. The food was extra and the dinner choices were not that great, don’t order the naan eggplant. Oyesters had gone bad. We enjoyed the Salmon and the risotto. The breakfast choices were good and the kids enjoyed it. The dive shop snorkel tour was very convenient and extra price. Clarissa was a marine biologist and we did the glass bottom tour with her and she almost salvaged our trip.

If I were to do this again// would stay at a better hotel for that price in Cairns/ book all trips thru the main land.

You also need lots of bug spray if you want to enjoy the national park and want to walk thru it. It’s a paved path and I am glad they are preserving it.

In terms of the GBR itself — definitely nothing like it in terms of the biodiversity. I have been to Galapagos and Roatan, and am glad I had the privilege to see this as well.

We had a wonderful stay at The Mantra. We booked the spa onsite for a massage and it was amazing. We had a connecting room with the kids and the rooms were so spacious with a wonderful view. Internet was dicey, but we did not care. We asked for 3rd floor even after reading the reviews but we loved it. Staff are wonderful too. The walk to the affiliated restaurant for breakfast was alot in the muggy weather but so good. One of the best buffets we have had and we also had lunch one day there. Fantastic.

One of my favourite places to visit - the scenery is stunning - you literally can’t take a bad photo. Daily snorkelling and walks along the beach or through the rainforest. The staff are delightful and don’t miss daily fish feeding followed by sunset drinks after the day trippers leave. Already planning my next stay!

Beautiful island but incredibly overpriced for what it is. The rooms are tired, without basics like a couple of champagne glasses or a wine knife, We had electrical items that didn’t work. $38 for a buffet breakfast which was really basic and fairly tasteless and you could not order a proper coffee with breakfast.. A budget coffee machine that can’t make a flat white and no decaf coffee anywhere on the island. We were directed to the instant coffee sachets. You can have black coffee, black coffee and black coffee from the self service machine that looks like it was made in the 80’s, even though there is a barista coffee machine behind the bar, it was refused. Who doesn’t want a good coffee on the morning?
Absolute bonuses- sunset drinks on the jetty, great dive instructor, beach and location, quiet and ambient evening once everyone goes home. Staff were welcoming and friendly and dinner was off the hook amazing. Must have the barramundi spring rolls and kangaroo. Our dinner was absolutely worth every cent!
All in all a great stay but just overpriced for the stay and breakfast. .

We stayed at Green Island Resort for 2 nights (family of 4, 2 kids aged 8 and 10). Things we loved: Hotel staff was helpful and friendly , Dive Shop was great in getting us snorkeling gear, Snorkeling was fantastic, both on the beach side and the jetty side. Things we disliked: Room was old, plaster on ceiling in bathroom was cracked and crumbling, whole room smelled very musty. Food situation is not ideal. We were not prepared for the exorbitant prices for basic food. For example, a tray of chips costs $15. Dinners in the $50 range equivalent to what you would get in Cairns for $25. So, basically, assume you will pay about double for food, and you have no choice, no other food options. I am not blaming the resort for this, it is a remote location where it is much more expensive to deliver the food, limited number of customers, etc, but just be prepared for it. Finally, a few of the things we had hoped to enjoy were not available to us, specifically the glass bottom boat, and the kayaks. The glass bottom boat was all booked up for the times we tried to get, and since we were only there 2 nights, we werent as flexible either. Again, not the resorts fault, but I would suggest booking a time as soon as you arrive to be sure to get on. Kayaks not available the whole time we were there, we were told the tide was too low, which makes sense, but it was just a bummer. Overall we enjoyed our visit though.

Delightful 1 night stay. Id go back. Not sure for more than 1 night. But perfect for a night.

Dinner was splendid. Far better than we expected. Delicious for an islans restaurant. Breakfast satisfactory and hotel manager very empathetic with a bit of an issue we encountered with work at home - and did whatever she could to help us resolve it.

This property is ideal for a day trip but therein lies its downfall. We didn't expect it to be full of day trippers we expected (at the price point of >£400/night) more of a tranquil and relaxing environment.
It is sell sell sell from the moment the ferry departs to when it arrives at the island.
Because of the volume of day trippers the food outlets can't cope so there is extensive wait times, again not what is expected.
The accommodation is okay but slightly dated and in need of repairing some areas.
All in all not a good experience for us, so much so we returned to the mainland after only one night cutting our stay short, the staff dealt with this very well it has to be said.

Beautiful island, decidedly average hotel

Amazing island. Could be incredible hotel too with real eco credentials but felt more like a commercial enterprise that had lost its way.

Hotel average. Pub standard food. Signature dish (seafood platter) came with no bread or sauces - for $125 this is poorly thought out and showed little thought for the customer.

Hotel oversells itself and facilities -eg ‘sumptuous dining’ and no windsurfing at all (due to insurance issues) despite still advertising on the website.

Most staff transient and not sure of how things worked despite trying their hardest.

Honestly I think the hotel has struggled to re-start post lockdowns and presumably trying to make money back with minimal expenditure. Sorry to not be more positive but this is honest. Should really still be on a re-start deal as not fully functioning at the level promised.

We enjoyed our stay on the resort. It’s very touristy during the day but worth it when the crowds leave for the evening. We booked during the wet season so it wasn’t as worth the price due to weather. Be careful walking around when it’s wet as all the walkways and stairs get very slippery. My husband and I both fell while walking around the resort since the wood walkways and stairs have no grip to them.

We had a great stay at Green Island and the location, hotel and staff were all fantastic.

Some reviewers feel that the influx of day trippers was a detraction, but our experience was that there were plenty of places to enjoy lying on the beach during the day that were almost deserted and so were quiet and peaceful. Also the sunset drinks was an excellent way to celebrate the departure of the masses and regain the tranquillity of the island for those lucky enough to be staying at the resort. Wandering along the jetty with a glass of bubbles in hand spotting turtles, stingrays and shovel nosed rays while watching the sun set was a real pleasure.

The snorkelling near the jetty and off the patrolled beach, while certainly not pristine environments, was varied and interesting, and being able to get there via a short walk was exactly what we were looking for. We went to one or both every day during our six day stay and it never got boring as there was always something new to see. Watching a large turtle complacently grazing as we swam past never ceased to amaze.

We took two trips on the snorkelling boat at the island and the coral was really wonderful at both sites we visited. We also took an outer reef trip, and whilst it was sad to see the extent of damage from bleaching, there were lots of fish (including a reef shark or two) and areas of beautiful coral so it's definitely worth doing.

Resort is lovely! Food at restaurant was a real surprise, beautifully presented and delicious. Island gets pretty overrun during the day with day-trippers - but the early mornings and evenings are so nice and peaceful. Only thing we didn't like about our room were the fact that there were two double beds, rather than one queen or king - for a tall couple the bed is a bit small (we ended up pushing them together!)

The smell of the bird droppings around the island is terrible. the only place you can get dinner the food is only ok. The options are limited as the menu doesn't change. If it rains there is literally nothing else to do. The island and the wildlife are beautiful.

Everything is so good!

Stayed one night in green island. The island itself is quite small and the most beautiful part of the island is once all the day visitor left the park. We saw 4 turtles, 1 shark and lots of fishes!! Love every single bit of the island and recommend others to stay!

Shabby, Disappointing, Overrated Resort

If you are thinking of visiting the Great Barrier Reef, which is a very special place, then give Green Island a wide berth. We stayed there for two nights and very much wished we hadn't. Hoards of tourists overrun the island during the day: up to 1,000 people on an island that takes little more than 20 minutes to walk around. The central touristic area is awash with nasty food options to cater for the crowds. After extensive queueing, we received simply disgusting food.
At 4.30 pm the last boat departs and peace descends on the island, which is lovely. However, there is only one restaurant left open for resort guests that is expensive, badly run and dirty (watch out for bird poo). We had an argument regarding a significant wait for food on our first night and were completely mismanaged by staff. After that we ordered room service. A better option (despite being the same kitchen) but it closes around 10.00pm rather than the stated 10.30pm with no other food/drink options after this time.
From twilight, the resort is overrun with large rats - a nasty experience walking around. Many items within the resort are broken - washing machines, remote controls. There is an overall air of neglect. Our issues were extensive but there isn't the space here to mention them all. The managing companies are banking on people's desire to visit the reef with no care or thought to the actual experience. Sort it out Quicksilver and Reef Adventures. Take note Tourism Queensland.

Beautiful Island getaway

This resort was such a great experience! Even getting to spend just one night here was so memorable! We were so happy we opted to spend the night instead of just having a day trip here. The price included the boat ride there and back which was convenient. The sunset drinks on the beach were lovely. The room was spacious and clean. We loved to snorkel off the beach and felt like VIP walking up and getting equipment handed to us with no problem or charge as a resort guest. Overall, lovely stay!

Getting close to nature in style

We loved our stay overnight on the Island. Truly beautiful surrounds, scenery, prolific marine life. Plenty of activities included in the tariff. Superb transfer to and from the island in a modern and fast catamaran. The birdlife and rainforest aspect was fantastic. Once the day trippers had left, the experience really lifts up another level, and you feel very privileged to be enjoying this amazing place. Could not fault the staff, they were all friendly and helpful. The room was beautifully appointed and very comfortable. The outdoor decked area was right beside the rainforest edge. The whole experience felt like an adventure with a luxury feel. The restaurant was excellent and the menu enticing. Will definitely return to this little paradise on the Great Barrier Reef.

What a great experience, the resort was well cared for on a pristine Australian island. We were treated to evening complimentary drinks, snorkel, beach use and an amazing 5 star restaurant on the world famous great barrier reef.

I would like to thank the resort for all their effort including a room upgrade, having stayed 3 nights, I could definately have stayed 5!

From 9am - 430pm you do share the island with the day trippers but this can also make for quite a sporty day of 'people watching'.

Certainly recommend a couple of nights stay in a lovely resort in a very special part of the world.

Coral reef paradise

This is an absolute paradise for snorkeling - there are beautiful corals and abundance of sea life. No experience of snorkeling needed to be totally impressed the corals start from the very footsteps of the bungalows.

The second thing remarkable about this place is a surprisingly good restaurant of high cuisine. The prices are just a small fraction of what could be expected for such a quality in a capital cities.

The accommodations are clean and comfortable and the staff is helpful.

On the down side is that the island is quite busy between 10am and 4pm because of all those day visitors but between those hours a few \"house guests\" feel like having a private island all by themselves.

The island is beautiful, a real tropical paradise in the middle of the ocean sorrounded by clear beaches.

The staff was great, really helpful and polite, specially Kris at the Emerald Restaurant who made our dinners outstanding.

During the day it does get pretty crowded by all the tour people, but there is enough beach space for everyone.

We booked a package so the tour to the outer reef was included and it was a wonderful exprecience, really well organized. I definetly recommend taking this tour.

Extra activities like walking tours, star gazing, turtle watching and crocodile feeding are a good plus.

The food is OK but it is not one of the hotels strong points.

The Wi Fi is terrible, as you would probably think it would be being 30km away from mainland. The hotel shouldn't list it as one of its feature as it practically doesn't work.

Also the hotel doesn't contact you to explain how to get to the island, you have to investigate through its website. The transport is included in the rate.

Overall we had a really great experience and relaxing experience and would definetly consider coming back.

The hotel itself is okay, but the beach and pool are very crowded and pretty compact. The hotel could use more privacy for it's guests (maybe a private part of the beach).
The food options were terrible, and there was no vending machine or healthy snack option at the whole hotel.
We felt the hotel was overpriced for what we paid, even when including the free ferry to and from the hotel.
That said, the staff is very nice and the hotel offers high-quality talks over nature walks, fish feeding, and star gazing and free snorkeling gear.

What you are paying for are the few magical hours after the last tour boat leaves when you have the island almost to yourself. Staying there for one night might be worth it if you were planning on visiting Green Island anyways, and if you bring your own picnic food.

Memorable family stay

We stayed in a family room with our 2 daughters aged 6 and 8, with the main purpose being for them to learn to snorkel on the GBR by walking straight off the beach, and every expectation was surpassed. We caught the 10.30am ferry from Cairns so we could spend a full day, and even though our reservation did clearly state that our room check-in wouldn't be until 2pm, it was ready early so we could get changed. All snorkeling gear was included in the price of the room as was life vests for the kids. There were a lot of day visitors between 10 and 4pm, however resort guests can escape to their own pool for some peace if they want. After the last boat has gone, the resort was incredibly peaceful. The kids loved the 5pm fish feeding and we loved the 5.15pm cocktails on the beach! The star gazing was informative too. Our meal at Emeralds restaurant was superb, and the kid options were really good too. We caught the 2.30pm ferry back to Cairns the next day, giving us a full morning to do the glass bottom boat trip and some more snorkeling.
A great family experience and will be back.

Great, secluded hotel

We really enjoyed our stay on green island at the resort. The hotel facilities are very nice and the room is very comfortable. We enjoyed the complimentary activities such as the nature walk, fish feeding, glass bottom boat tour, and the welcome drinks. Although the island is busy during the day from visitors on tours, after 4:30 when they leave it is once again becomes a secluded haven.

Green Island Resort

We loved this resort. It was wonderful having our own little island. While many people came over for the day, the resort took on a completely different feel once all the tourists left. Our nature walks, fish feeding and star gazing , all provided free from the hotel were an added bonus. The staff was so friendly and accommodating. We will be happy to share this with all our friends.

The guest accom was private and peaceful.

Staff went all out to help our 25th anniversary special, even organised a beautiful table on the beach. The seafood hot and cold was delicious. Staff even organised for our luggage to be taken back to Cairns on our last day whilst we went to the reef. The reef was beautiful and we had the best day snorkeling. The onboard reef staff were excellent also. We suggest if you are a wine drinker, to take your favourite with you, as there isn't a large selection of wine. Though you could call beforehand and ask what wines they have. The guest area is very peaceful considering there are day trip visitors until 4.30pm. Then the island is very quiet. There are lots of activities if you want, we suggest you give yourself an extra few days to see the Cairns sights eg., sky rail, so we want to go back to Cairns one day. Ive fallen in love with north qld. If you are a southerner, pack cotton clothes as shiny or synthetic make you feel hotter. The main areas are airconditioned well though, incl. Our room. Such a pretty island. Lots of photo opportunities.

Beautiful island with lovely beaches and spacious comfortable suites. Very efficient transfers from Cairns are included. Biggest disappointment was the restaurant service which was very slow and not at all attentive. The food was all right but nothing special.

great area for snorkeling

we arrived for a quick 2 day experience. after checking in we went right to the beach to snorkel because it was low tide. we had a great time and got some great videos. fed the fish, had dinner and went back out the next morning. then left on the noon ferry to cairns.

others had said and i will agree that the daytripper chinese kind of take over the place until they all leave at 4pm so it is a great area before and after they get there.

Great location for family

The rooms were comfortable and quiet. Although busy during the day, after 4pm the resort emptied of tourists and the island was peaceful and very relaxing. There were complimentary drinks and fish feeding each evening - a perfect time to see Green Turtles swimming under the jetty. We saw Minky and Humpback Whales from the beach. The snorkelling was good. The dinner staff were very good with our two year old. They brought her food out very quickly to keep her occupied while we ordered and relaxed. Breakfast was fantastic. Overall I would rate the stay as very relaxing, comfortable and a little bit different. I would recommend to others and we would return. It works very well with children.
