I took time to write this review as I was very annoyed at this stay experience and thus took time for emotions to settle down and take time to forget specific names as I did not want people to get affected on individual basis. Definitely not worth the hype created, the vastness and terrain of property makes it difficult to manage despite some effort by staff. The diesel buggies are very inconvenient and bad smelling.
The staff at reception was inattentive and caused enormous delay at checkout time as they could not sort issues with travel partner on payments despite request on day 1 ( the issue was in both sides I.e. Expedia as well as hotel) and in the end caused a lot of delay in return due to bad timing.

The approach road is terrible..do understand it got washed out last monsoon but still last few kilometers of the road to Taj needs to be improved if you want folks to come visit again…especially from overseas

Fabulous Taj property set in the hills outside of Madikeri town. The rooms (bungalows) are well designed and have been sympathetically built to blend in with the natural surroundings as much as possible.

The facilities are fantastic - from the spectacular lobby, modern gym, indoor and outdoor pools to the spa and grounds. Staff are very friendly and try to be helpful although some lacked good English language skills which led to some amusing exchanges! The restaurants on site are good which is necessary as the property is a slow drive to the nearest town - Madikeri.

The property is set in the beautiful hills of Coorg! and the resort is built to encompass the beauty of the location. The villas are private and all the facilities are accessible via buggies. The staff are friendly, helpful and efficient. The restaurants had excellent food choices both local and international. The resort offers many activites and has something for everyone.

Best location in Coorg - I suppose this is the only reason why hotel deserves the price they charge, the view is absolutely stunning and magical

The best thing about the property is the location; overlooking a valley and with clouds coming to greet everytime one is out on the terrace. Lush green forest with native flora and fauna flourishing make the stay very relaxing.

Service, cleanliness and other essentials are par excellence.

Enough and more activities for guests; Infinity pool, sauna, jacuzzy, pool table, foosball, kayaking, treks, zip line and more.

Food while high in quality, taste wise didn't really hit off with me though my family seemed very satisfied.

On the whole very nice experience!

What a fantastic place to stay. From the check-in to the spa everything was fantastic. Would go back in a heartbeat. Highly recommend seeing the sites nearby and eating local Coorg cuisine in town. The SPA is amazing worth indulging in. The gym was clean and had a ton of good equipment for working out.

Go For the Views & the Hospitality !

Gorgeous property, amazing views of the natural surroundings from the main lobby, the coffee shop (Ferntree), and most of the common areas. Cottages are spaced out really well - foliage around the cottages gives you privacy.
Food was really good; only complaint here would be that the portion sizes were too big!
Lots of activities - just dependant on the weather.
Amazing service at the Jiva Spa.
Most importantly- all the Taj people (everyone from the Duty Manager to Restaurant Staff, Buggy Driver and Housekeeping) - super helpful and extremely accommodating.

Beautiful property but the details were not great

The lobby of the property is amazing as is the infinity pool. The grounds are extensive and the services was friendly. However, a few small things added up to make it only ok 1. While the property grounds are extensive there are no nice walking trails only the main pathways that are shared with vehicular traffic. 2. There are fireplace rooms in each room but the wood burning fireplaces required a call to reception and did not last very long 3. The food at the restaurants was ok but not great 4. There was no bar by the pool 5. The activity center did not have much in way of activities for kids.

India is synonymous to hospitality and Taj Vivanta Madikeri is synonymous to that Indian hospitality. One of my finest 5 star experiences anywhere in the world. The staff have been helpful and have added meaningful value to our stay.
1. Megha for getting us an extra room at the last minute.
2. Ananth for proactively letting us know that the tyre was flat.
3. Nithin for being the excellent Naturalist.
4. Andrews for giving us some excellent meals at the restaurant. His pick on the private dining has won us over as we let him decide it.

Loved the cottage in the midst of the forest making the experience very rustic. Staff and service was very good. Rainforest Walk, Nishani Trek is a must-do. Swimming pool and review is excellent.

One thing that potentially could be improved is to have more frequent bus service to Madikeri town for people who like to dabble in local town culture. We enquired about the taxi service and the rates were prohibitively expensive.

Great spacious rooms and beautiful view from the room. The swimming pool was lovely and the restaurants are simply awesome. Breakfast was grand and pleasing. Although insecticides were being sprayed for mosquito, the honey from the property was said to be organic. How is the organic if insecticides are being sprayed? I am sure this also affects the flora and fauna in the located at the beautiful property.

We were here on a 3 night stay to enjoy the resort as well as celebrate my wife's birthday. It was indeed a delightful experience with the staff & the senior management's PR. The GM & F&B managers were really wonderful people.
Loved the breakfast & dinner experience as well. Housekeeping staff were absolutely adorable & all in all combined with buggy & Spa people, they made our stay joyful & memorable!! Views to die for. Nice gym & a Fab infinity pool with a great view.

Fab views ... tranquil rain forest location! Easily one of the best places for R&R in the world. Service is spotty - some staff are outstanding/ The Colonel is a great resource to learn about the area and its people. Awesome family vacation

We loved the 3 nights we spent at this property. Right from the arrival experience with breath-taking views of the valley below; the beautiful rooms; amazing service and great dining options, we loved it all. This was easily the best family vacation we've had so far.
There are so many activities to do within the resort like nature walks, zip-lining, archery, pottery, picking strawberries etc. that we had to do away with some of the local sight-seeing stuff.
Rooms were great. We were in the Deluxe Cottage for 1 night, which was very spacious and cozy for our family of 4. For the other 2 nights we were in the Luxury Pool Villa which was simply awesome. Water in the pool was temperature controlled, housekeeping staff had a wonderful surprise for us and especially kids with balloons and chocolates. We really felt pampered!

Food options are good and for the 3 nights we were there we didn't feel any monotony. We visited all restaurants we could including one for local cuisine and another for barbecue and tandoor stuff by the poolside.

As far as things to look out for are concerned, in the evening or at night if the main door of the room is kept open for a long time, insects may get in.
Also, as the resort is huge, at times the wait times for buggy can be bit longer.

Overall, we loved the experience. We came back with a decision to visit this property again sometime in the near future.

Stunning property and beautiful architecture with clean, gorgeous rooms with friendly staff and all of the amenities. Though luxurious and on a serene piece of land, the stay wasn't quite as restful as I had hoped. You either have to take long, hilly walks between your room and restaurant/lobby/pool or depend on an unpredictable buggy service (who showed up anywhere between 3 and 40 minutes after I called). Staff was friendly and well-spoken, but somewhat overbearing at times (at the breakfast buffet I just want to eat my food and read the paper without interruptions suggesting what other food I might like). These were small issues, but for the sky high price tag should be resolved.

Travelled there with my wife for our honeymoon. Stay was pretty awesome. Nice staff....housekeeper mahesh, Col Muthanna (conservation), sumptuous delicacies and most of all serene environment. It was a off season trip, so pls keep that in mind before planning a trip.

Fabulously relaxing and great fresh food

Had a fabulous 3 night stay at the Taj Madikeri. Bit off the beaten track but fine if you have access to a car or some walking shoes to go and explore. Hotel was beyond picturesque with rolling hills and paddy fields. Room was lovely - had room 418 which for us was a perfect location - walking distance to the main restaurant block and the outside pool / grill and the sports facilities reducing our reliance on buggies to get up the hill. Also had a fire room just a shame it wasn't cold enough to use it!

Food was great - so much produce was grown onsite or sourced nearby - you could taste the freshness especially in the basil and mulberry ice creams! The coorgi restaurant tickled our taste buds and it was also nice that you could order from this menu in the main restaurant during the day when the Coorgi restaurant was closed. All the staff were super friendly and eager to please (although there was one guy who twice said 'no you can't have that' (not outlandish requests - one was for an orange or pineapple juice at breakfast and the other was a fish in banana leaf that I wasn't allowed to have with rice). We think he must have just been having a bad day because after that he was perfectly pleasant - strange!

Went on a mountain biking tour - great bunch of lads running the activities although they were somewhat let down by the bikes they were using although I understood the challenges they were up against with maintenance and inexperienced riders!

This resort/hotel is located in a plush green valley with an enchanting veiw! The staff is extra courteous and made our stay pleasant. The buffet breakfast had a huge spread and was super delicious! The infinity pool was awesome and plus the quality of toiletries provided are very good! Overall an excellent stay however the last few kms of the approach road can be improved. Thanks!

Beautiful locale, beautiful view!!

Wonderful service by the hotel staff...should especially mention the friendliness and service of the housekeeping staff Hanglon in particular...she was the sweetest, friendly and very efficient in her work.

The locale was breathtaking with wonderful weather. They had a lot of inhouse activities couple of swimming pools. THe one below the lobby was beautiful!! Should visit it!

Fantastic property no doubt

Number of buggys are limited restricting the movement within the resort. While all facilities are available, some things like zip line while being awesome becomes painful when the walk back is not so good. The property is world class, beef is not available on the menu. Food was not always hot. Breakfast was awesome and the buffet spread is really good. Rooms are awesome, malabar whistling birds, the woodpecker constantly pecking on the door and some amazing moments are what made the trip worthwhile.
