What a darling place! Located among apple trees with walking trails headed through the woods the owners have thought of a dozen ways to make your stay perfect. Lights in the back with hammocks for your comfort, a firepit, swings and soccer for the kids. The room was cozy and warm. Cesis was wonderful, but Karlamuiza makes you want to just stay and be in the beautiful countryside of the hotel.

Wonderfully isolated cottage (Annmarie)

It’s away from the main building (700 m walk along the road, but there’s a shortcut) in a beautiful area.
We enjoyed our stay, except for the couch. When we both sat on it, it automatically turned into a pull-out bed. Worked well when only one person sat on it.
There’s no shower, but a tub with a handheld shower head. The tub itself was very comfortable.

We had the luck of staying the weekend when a nearby town, Cesis, was celebrating its 819th birthday. We went to the festival and had a lot of fun. This inn is conveniently located on a trip from Tallin, Estonia to Riga, Latvia.

We had an amazing stay at Karlamuiza, our room was spacious and had very nice views, the bed was very comfortable. The surrounding property is gorgeous. The staff and hosts were friendly and incredibly helpful and accommodating. The dinner was amazing, not to be missed. It might seem pricey but we discovered that it was well worth it, Baiba is an amazing chef, she uses local fresh ingredients in a very creative way. We did the Sauna Ritual offered through the hotel, it was an incredible experience that was nothing like anything we’ve ever done. It opens the senses and connects one to nature and felt like we were experiencing an integral part of ancient Latvian culture. It was rainy that day so it was perfect to have the opportunity to slow down and relax. Overall I highly recommend Karlmuiza as not only a nice place to stay but a wonderful experience.

A lovely place with friendly service. I think we had the smallest room but it was still large, with a kitchenette, including a fridge and stove. We had a lovely breakfast on the terrace with coffee and tea provided by the host (we had our own breakfast with us).

Perfect start and finish for your Amata hiking!

We stayed for two nights at the Elisabeth room - loved waking up to storks flying and birds singing in the yet unblown apple trees was fantastic, nevermind the rain :)
The service was friendly and the food was good! Best carrot cake I had ever had and my partner loved the freshly caught trouts! Comfort was good, we both would have preferred a harder bed and softer chairs by the table, but these things are personal preferences, not criticism. Everything was clean and it was a very pleasant stay overall. We would return there and if you are thinking of walking the nature trails, I would not know a better location to start off from and a better room and atmosphere to wish for! We most certainly do recommend this place!

Beautiful summer manor of baron Zeverts once, now a perfect hideaway,especially in Covid era. Spacious, beautifully restored, nice surroundings, near to all avid zemes attractions - Cesis, Araisi, Gauja National park, Ligatne, Zvartas iezis,Super three choices for breakfast, served to you room, coffee machine in your room, you can order 3 course meal of superior quality just for 20 eur a person. This was our second stay here and I really appreciate high standards of service, friendly staff. Thank you for giving us Home away from Home.

Lovely hotel, amazing experience

We had a lovely stay in this family hotel. The location is nice, in a remote place in the national park so you definitely need a car to reach it although we were told in the summer you can reach Cesis in two hours. The ladies running the hotel were really friendly and even let us use the sauna at 10.30 pm because we spent the evening in Cesis. Overall, I really recommend the hotel and wouldn't definitely return there if ever in Latvia again.

It was a short drive from the Cesis Castle. The room is beautifully decorated, clean, tidy and spacious. There's a small kitchen where you can have light meal arranged by yourself. There's also a small washing machine which is good for small scale laundry. The hotel is located the national park which is a bit rural, so we have pre-booked dinner with the hotel. There's a small pond in front of the hotel and the environment is nice and beautiful. We took a short walk around the field and nearby the hotel for pictures. The night we arrived was my wife's birthday and we had the dinner at the hotel. The host was so nice to have prepared a candle in the mousse cake for our celebration. Will certainly recommend it.

Nice country retreat.

A nice country hotel, easy check in, room was good and everything worked. As this is situated miles from anywhere you really want to eat there. Food was good but not exceptional. Same applies for breakfast. Overall a stunning location, very quiet, accessed via a longish dirt road.

I would recommend this hotel everything about it was great. We had dinner here and although it is a set meal it was very good and the staff friendly and helpful, breakfast is also good but no hot food. As it is located off the beaten track the only drawback is that the road is not paved so for about two and a half kilometers it is a dusty and bumpy drive but well worth it.

Retreat in the countryside

This is a lovely retreat in the countryside. The room itself was large but not particularly well appointed. We were there for two nights but no maid service. However, the staff were lovely. There are extensive walking trails. We had dinner one night out on the patio which was exceptionally good. You need to advise them in advance if you want dinner. It is a bit difficult to find as it is off the main road along a dirt road. And it is a long way from Cesis which showed on our confirmation. Our GPS was not helpful. We had a local fellow go 10 km out of his way to take us there. So get directions in advance.

Nice location, within acceptable distance from Cecis. Good walking trails in vicinity. Host couple very informative, cosy atmosphere. Breakfast and dinner good value. Our room \"Karl\" had a bedroom a living room and very large bathroom. Only drawback and quite irritating was size of the shower space. Recommended but you need a car.

Countryside Quiet

What a lovely country house! The proprietoress went above and beyond to make our stay pleasant. My husband and I had to catch a train the morning after our stay and she drove us to the station herself instead of calling us a cab. Good buffet breakfast and most rooms have a wonderful view into the gardens and orchard. It's definitely outside of Cesis proper, so best if you have your own car or are prepared to take a taxi. Would stay here again if ever in the area.

Unique experience at a bargain price

True country location with short or long hiking trails in the woods of the national park starting at the hotel. Hiking poles, canoes, bicycles all available. Not upscale but certainly comfortable and spotlessly clean--and the price we paid for dinner, room and breakfast was little more than we paid for dinner alone at our Helsinki hotel. It’s easy to find either from Cesis or Segulda (the two big tourist sites) with signs to Karli on both main roads (either off P20 or E77/A2), but these are right at the intersection of what is a small, local road, so be alert.

Peaceful and scenic

Wish we had stayed here more nights! This was such a relaxing and lovely setting after the hustle and bustle of the larger cities! The meals (breakfast and dinner) were delicious and healthy! Our room, the Elizabeth suite, was very spacious and had a wonderful view. We enjoyed sitting out back and having a glass of wine, and loved our visit to nearby Cesis Castle.

Rural alternative to main cities

This property is situated on a gravel road in the countryside. Do not let this put you off as it is a beautiful setting with a lovely host. Dinner and breakfast onsite recommended but book ahead particularly if in the shoulder seasons. Great walking tracks on your doorstep and historic towns nearby. Rooms spacious and well appointed.

Beautiful backwoods mansion!

This beautiful small mansion near Karli and just south of Cesis was a delightful surprise. Tastefully renovated, very clean, welcoming, helpful hosts who speak English, very good breakfast, plus quiet, delightful grounds. They will also provide dinner and you can experience a pirts (Latvian sauna) if you book ahead. Great experience!

Pros: Quiet, comfortable and great for nature lovers. Good value. Hosts were very helpful with transportation.

Cons: Food prices are a bit steep compared to other parts of Latvia (E18 dinner and E7 for breakfast buffet. That said, it was a 3 course dinner and excellent.

This is a modest but lovely small country inn. The proprietors are helpful and dedicated. The food is adequate though basic. The grounds are beautiful. We enjoyed our visit but our stay was marred by the fact that the termperature was unusually high for the region and our upper floor room was stifflingly hot with windows that opened only a crack and no fan.

Loved staying in this country manor house!

I'm really glad I stayed here instead of in the city center of Cesis... it was well worth the short drive to stay in an old (but completely modernized and spotlessly clean) stone manor house with lovely grounds. I had a big, comfortable room with views of blooming apple trees and I appreciated the friendly reception and free wifi. If I ever return to Cesis, I will definitely stay here again.

Great hotel. Stayed in the Elisabete room which was huge with own balcony overlooking the gardens. Room was furnished/decorated quite sparsely but was very clean. The hotel is in the middle of beautiful countryside. You can borrow bikes to explore the local area and we made good use of their croquet set! The host was very friendly and welcoming and went out of her way to help us. Food was good and reasonably priced. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful and relaxing stay.

Un jardin superbe, une rivière pas loin, de nombreuses balades à faire et des cigognes !

De belles chambres bien équipées et un petit déjeuner buffet fourni avec beaucoup de produits frais (ça change).

Si vous voulez dîner, pensez à commander avant 16h car tout est fait à la demande manifestement. Et pas de restaurant à proximité.
L’hôtel nous a dépanné gracieusement avec des desserts vu notre heure tardive d’arrivée (nous n’avions pas commandé)

Schöne Unterkunft, alles wie auf den Fotos, Höhepunkt ist das Abendessen, es gibt für alle das gleiche 3-Gang-Menü mit Gemüse aus eigenem Anbau, bei schönem Wetter wird im Garten serviert, Menü kostet 35€ ( nicht 29€ wie in der Mail der Unterkunft angegeben), ist aber auch 35€ wert. Einziger Mangel: Duschtür war defekt, so hatte man während des Duschens plötzlich die Tür in der Hand. Gem. Info der Eigentümer sei der Mangel bekannt, eine vorherige Info oder eine nachträgliche Entschuldigung wären hier hilfreich gewesen, daher Punktabzug

Environnement magique en pleine nature entouré d'une pommeraie. L' expérience du sauna dans une petite cabane en bois avec rafraîchissement dans l'étang est unique.
Petit déjeuner superbe avec jus de pomme et confitures maison ainsi qu'une belle sélection de produits salés.

Nettes Hotel in schöner Lage

Sehr schönes kleines Hotel mit familiärer Atmosphäre, das zudem noch sehr zentral für Tagesausflüge in den Gauja Nationalpark liegt. Wir wohnten im Dreibettzimmer James, das gemütlich und stilvoll eingerichtet ist. Lediglich die Küchenecke war mit drei Tassen, Tellern, Wassergläsern, Müsli-Schalen, einer kleinen Pfanne und einen kleinen Topf sowie Besteck etwas spartanisch ausgestattet. Einen Topf, indem man Nudeln kochen kann, Bier und Weingläser fehlten. Uns hat es nicht gestört, da wir nicht vorhatten zu kochen. Die sehr gut gepflegte Gartenablage mit vielen Sitzgelegenheiten und gemütlichen Hängematten lädt bei gutem Wetter zum Verweilen ein. Wer das Auto ruhen lassen möchte, kann direkt vom dort aus über gepflegte Wanderwege in das Tal der Amata starten. Jeden Abend gab es ein abwechslungsreiches, schmackhaftes, gewählt kombiniertes drei Gänge Menü aus regionaltypischen frischen Zutaten. Auch in den 9 Tagen in denen wir dort waren hat sich nichts wiederholt. Das Frühstücksbuffet war reichhaltig; der frisch gepressten Apfelsaft aus den Äpfeln der hauseigenen Streuobstanlage soll nicht unerwähnt bleiben. Insgesamt haben wir uns sehr wohlgefühlt.
