Beautiful place by the fjords.
Blessed to see the northern lights both nights that we were there by just stepping outside the hotel restaurant and out at our cabin balcony. Absolutely amazing and hassle free.

Restaurant offered nice meals.

We were 9 traveling together. 6 of us stayed at a beautiful cabin and 3 at the hotel.

Staff very nice and helpful. Manager very kindly offered help to my daughter when my granddaughter needed medical attention. He drove them to the medical facility, waited and drove them back. He was truly a Good Samaritan.
We are forever grateful.

Malangen is beautiful but it is a secluded place. Be prepared. No taxis, other restaurants, supermarkets, pharmacy… just the hotel, cabins and nature to enjoy.

Also you need to be prepared to haul your luggage from the hotel reception to your cabin.

But overall it is worth the visit. Highly recommend it. We went from Tromso in the shuttle buses they offer. A nice 1 1/2 hour ride

We booked here because some family members stayed 9 years ago and loved it, so we weren't as careful with checking reviews as we would normally be.

The resort is very far from 4*. The apartments are tired and basic. The soft furnishings (sofa, cushions and blanket) in the living room are dirty and smelly. The bedrooms are tiny, with just beds and no other furniture, not even a bedside table. The shower cubicles are cheap plastic. The only great thing is the view over the fjord.

If the weather is good then I'm sure it's a fantastic place to see the Northern Lights but if it's cloudy, as it was during our visit, then you won't see anything and you're stuck in one location.

The activities are run by a separate company and the staff are lovely but completely untrained. We booked a trappers experience day, where we were meant to learn about local flora and fauna, and how to make a fire. In reality, it was just a snowshoe hike, which was gorgeous and fun but not what we thought we were getting. Our guide had only been at the resort for a few weeks and had been given minimal training, so didn't know the area very well (not his fault, he was doing his best). We also found out that some of the activities staff live in tiny near the dog yard in extremely basic conditions. There was actually a fire while we were there - likely caused by unsafe electrics (no injuries thankfully).

The sauna was also not working properly.

On the plus side, the hotel staff were friendly.

It’s one of the best places to see the northern lights but is it really worth it? First-don’t book through Hotels.com. They leave out details that matter in winter - hot water is extremely limited (2 showers of 4 minutes each-see water tank picture) and the cabins can be a long walk from the main lodge in -6°C weather. Be prepared to drag your suitcases to your cabin in the snow. There is no assistance with luggage. We booked two reservations: one through Hotels.com and one through a travel agency. The pricing was better with an agent and we were offered full board. The agent caught errors on charges and details that we couldn’t . You need an advocate. They consistently overcharge items and are reluctant to credit items back.
We stayed in a “luxury” water’s-edge cabin. The upstairs had three bedrooms (one large master and two much smaller rooms) accessed by a narrow spiral staircase-bags have to stay in the living room-bathroom also downstairs. The two smaller bedrooms had absolutely no heat. Our children slept the first night in their clothing and hats. We had to move them to another accommodation at our expense for the remaining nights. We also heard similar complaints from other guests, who were heating their cabins by turning on the oven and opening the oven door—our smoke detector was on the coffee table with no battery in it so we didn’t try this.

It was a stay just for a few days to see northern lights. Almost all was meeting expectations. It's clean, well-organized hotel. The only disadvantage was a mediocre breakfast buffet. On the other hand, restaurant dishes were very well.

3bed house was a great choice. Wonderful waterfront views. Parking and charging was very easy and right by the property we had. No wifi but 5g worked fine. Remote, rural location. The restaurant at the property is good but nothing else for miles. We self catered in part.

Outdated property. No wifi, no tv besides 3 Norwegian stations. Temperature in unit was either freezing or 30 degrees Fahrenheit Far from all activies besides premium priced resort activities.Restaurant overpriced with small portions. Rented premium 3 bedroom sea view for 14 days, only stayed 5 and rebooked another hotel in Tromso. Resort would not give refund, blamed tv and wifi on \"owner\" of the cabin.

I would not recommend to anyone. It was a horrible experience with staff smiling at me while they insulted me telling me i should enjoy nature while only having a few hours of daylight, or telling me to learn Norwegian to watch the 3 available channels, and suggesting i should read a book. Didn't even have a smart tv to cast to, though without wifi probably did not matter.

Felt like i was back in the 70's with this outdated property. Do yourself a favor and book elsewhere.

Ordered steak and fries but there’s no fries, instead you’ll have THREE potatoes wedges.
No induction of the property.
Located 1 hour and 20 min from airport by car.
Nearest shop is at 2 hours walking distance or 10 min by car.
No option for take away items from the bar restaurant to your room.
No help with luggage.
Sent a message to the reception prior arrival mentioning my partners birthday and asked to organizing something special and never received a response, had to ask the waiter for a celebration plate after the meal in front of my partner.
Asked to cancel an excursion booked less than 2 hours before due to sickness and been denied as would charged me anyway.
No shop inside the resort.
Overpriced for what offers.

Incredible pace in a spectacular natural setting, about 1.25 hours from Tromso. Our fjord front cabin was spectacular- each day and night we woke to breathtaking views ( traveled in winter.). We saw the northern lights from our multiple balconies and the large windows in our unit. Everything was beautifully appointed. It is, however in a remote area tucked amidst mountains and fjords.! If you go, note there are no stores or on premise food purchase options except the restaurant. Also, it is not possible by Norwegian ABC laws to have a social or class of wine outside of the main hotel. BYOB, snacks and other provisions from Tromso ior elsewhere! It is a perfect and magical getaway! Thank you to the resort staff for making our stay truly memorable!

The views were 5 star but the Premium Cabin was not. As each cabin is privately owned the furnishings and extras are not uniform. We had basic cheap furniture, one pillow each, only 3 basic tv channels all in Norwegian and no Netflix or subscription channels. No board games, books or even a pack of cards. As the weather was terrible we literally had nothing to do. All our booked activities were cancelled. Which is not the resort's fault. But the lack of any alternate activities was not good enough. The resort did not provide us with anything to do. They did not answer the phone and only communicated by email. I don't think the cabin we were given deserves a Premium tag. Breakfast was also average given the price. We were very disappointed and left a day early. We are still trying to get Expedia to reply to our requests for a partial refund. We flew from Australia for what we thought would be an amazing resort but were quite underwhelmed. We know the weather is beyond anyone's control but to be sitting in a 3 star cabin after paying top dollar for a premium cabin and with absolutely nothing to do was just so disappointing.

It was a nice resort, sadly the weather wasn’t great so we couldn’t explore like we planned. It was quite difficult to walk around due to icy and slippery paths and roads, we would have hoped these would have been gritted to make it more safe. Limited menu to choose from for dinner although the food was very nice.

The location, the hotel, and most especially the staff are awesome. I had dinner at the hotel’s restaurant ( Oct. 19th) and there 2 ladies and a gentleman who seems genuinely happy with what they do and they made me feel at home. The same goes for the front desk the next day when I checked out. It is rare for me to leave reviews but I am glad I made the decision to drive and stay with Malangen Resort.

Plus, Auora Borealis gave me 2 separate shows on top of that.

Beautiful views. Restaurant food was only ok and there are no other restaurants within 1.5 hrs. Front office staff is mediocre and inconsistent depending on who was there. There are no phones in the cabins so there is no way to communicate with the front desk except by email or walk the 100-150 yards in the snow to get to the front desk. No internet except in the lobby areas. Transportation option to/from Tromso is also very limited and expensive. Taxi each way is $180-220 US.

I stayed at The Malangen Resort for 10 days, and I really enjoyed my time staying at the resort. The staff is amazing, friendly, and always willing to help out with suggestions should I need any.

The room I stayed in did not have a clock nor a television set which was a welcome surprise for me as I found other things to do such as visit Camp Nikka to photograph the Northern Lights, or drive to the other side of the fjord to go hiking.

The restaurant serves above average food and amazing locally-brewed beer. Thank you for having the Mark Pilsner on tap!

The bed took a little getting used to, and the bathroom was fantastic.

If there was one aspect I would like to see addressed is the checking out process. I wanted to leave before 7 in the morning, but I was unsure of the checkout process. So I waited until 7 am for someone to check me out. There has to be a better way in my opinion.

I would not return to this apartment, again.

The resort is very outdated. The equipment in the apartment is very old. In such a cold weather, guests will still need to wait for the water heater to be heated up as advised by the personnel between 30 - 60 minutes after each shower. The apartment can hold 3-4 guests, can you imagine how much time is needed to shower?

The internet speed in this location is horrendously slow but it is good as people should be focusing on the awesome view.

The heating solution within the room is also old and may not be in working condition. I personally feel that this resort is over-rated. I would love to see more resort in the area that is much more dated and welcoming to overseas guests.

Be aware that the hotel organised bus to airport is at fixed times and meant we had 4 hours at the airport which is currently being extended and the international flights are form a big temporary structure. A thoroughly unpleasant experience which the Hotel staff should have warned us about.

Stayed in one of the premium cabins which was great, had everything you could need and the views across the fjord were to die for. Was our second visit to Malangen, having stayed in a regular cabin before - which are equally as nice. The restaurant is very good and not crazy expensive given the location and what they could charge. Good food choices and quality was excellent though did feel guilty eating reindeer steak just before Christmas. If you want somewhere to go to escape everything, enjoy fabulous views, relax and just maybe get to see the northern lights then this is the place for you.

We had an excellent 3-night stay at Malagen Resort in the end of Feb, 2019.

The resort is located in a beautiful area and we were able to see the Northern Lights 2 nights in a row, both from the main building and also from the balcony of our cottage.

Overall, I do recommend the stay and would not think twice to return to the property in a future opportunity.

Staff is ok, not that warm or friendly, but will help you with your demands and requests.

Very good restaurant, but (as most restaurants in Tromso) you need to make reservations, which is quite annoying when you are on vacations trying to get rid of tight schedules.

However, our biggest let down was related to the Aurora Tour, one of the most expensive amongst all tours offered. We were taken to the other side of the road, having to walk for about 20min in a very cold weather. Indeed, we could see the Northern Lights quite clearly from our cottage, so we did not understand the purpose of charging guests to walk to a not so lighted area, part of hotel property.

Other than that, it must be clear to the guests that this is not a full service hotel. Seems the cottages are privately owned and rented out by the management to other guests in periods they are not being used by the owners. So, forget about room service, daily amenities, and other regular governance services.

Overall, a 7.5 out of 10.

Modern hotel - great location!

We have just returned from 2 nights at Malangen Brygger. The hotel is very new and modern, located right on a fjord. We stayed in a superior room in the hotel, although there are a range of lodge and cabin accommodation options. We were initially checked into a standard \"accessibility room\" by mistake and we were a little disappointed by it, but this was soon realised and corrected. The rooms all have large windows and overlook the fjords - really stunning views to wake up to particularly with the bed facing the window. The superior rooms are slightly larger and have a sitting area, and the design is modern and clean. There was no in room safe or minibar, but otherwise a lovely room with great facilities.

The only reason I haven`t given a 5 star rating is because the hotel was very quiet during our stay, with only 2 other groups we saw at breakfast and dinner. As such, the hotel generally only had 1 staff member on who would both wait on, serve at the bar and run reception, so generally they were fairly stretched. The staff were all very friendly, but could have been more attentive if just having 1 job to do. Sometimes you would turn around to order a glass of wine, and no one would appear for a while. The selection at breakfast was also very limited, again I suspect due to the few number of guests staying.

Amazing place for northern light spotting

I loved this hotel, the rooms are beautiful and large with a fantastic view over the water (the first night we had a clear night which was stunning), the shower is also amazing. We were lucky enough to see the northern lights from the room, however as we were in the hotel part our room didn't have a balcony we had to run outside to see them better.

I didn't realise how far out of Tromso it was when I booked, but this actually turned out to be a plus for this hotel, out of the light pollution it was much easier to see the northern lights, the hotel also has snow suits and everything else you need to survive the cold temperatures.

We arrived late as we stopped to watch the northern lights on our way from the airport and the restaurant in the hotel was closed when we arrived, there is nothing else around the resort, no shop, no restaurant or anywhere to buy food but the receptionist was kind enough to make us some sandwiches so we didn't starve, if you are arriving late stop at the supermarket just outside of Tromso to get something to eat before driving to the hotel.

The only minuses of the hotel is that the breakfast selection was a little basic and the toiletries provided were a bit cheap looking, and I couldn't see a way adjust the temperature in our room (it was too hot, especially when trying to sleep with the blankets on) if these minor things were fixed this hotel would be 5 star in my opinion.

I Love NORWAY!

Loved it! The room was exactly what was shown the view was amazing! To wake up to a beautiful sunrise over snow capped mountains was awesome!We did seem to spend a lot somehow but we expected that much. The only difficulty we had was the transportation to and from the hotel. You need to make sure that you notify the hotel if you require to travel to town or the airport at least a day before. Takes about 2 1/2 hours to get to the airport or town they are very close.

Amazing location but poor service and hot room

Beautiful hotel with amazing views however the service was poor with very confused staff on reception who struggled to find our booking, then booked us into the wrong room (a standard when we had booked a superior room) and they also tried to charge us for the room when we checked out when we had already paid in advance on hotels.com. The rooms did not have air conditioning or any heating controls so we were in an unbearably hot room with the radiator blasting out more heat and the window only opened about 2 inches so we had no way of fixing this. The food was also limited and variable. It is a shame as the location is amazing and the hotel is decorated beautifully with very comfortable, designer rooms.

Notre second row cabin était idéalement située en face de la mer avec une belle vue dégagée sur les fjords et pour voir les aurores boréales ! Il faut savoir que sur ce type de cabine c'est considéré comme une location et donc faire la vaisselle (machine à laver la vaisselle sur place), nettoyer les tables et plans de travail et amener toutes les poubelles aux containers de l'hôtel. (Pas loin). Les chemins pour accéder au bâtiment central de l'hôtel sont très verglacés à certains moments, pas top pour le faire à pied surtout dans les descentes.... Pas de sèche cheveux il faut le demander. Autrement l'emplacement est juste exceptionnel. Les cabines sont des petits chalets très agréables avec de grandes baies vitrées : top pour la vue. Le personnel est très agréable et répond à toutes les demandes. Le petit déjeuner n'est pas top par contre le restaurant très bon.

The double bed wasn't a double bed at all; it was two single beds side by side, and it wasn't comfortable at all. The pillows were awful, and there was only one duvet on the double bed, and it was a single-sized one. Everything else was great.

Hotellet er klassifisert som fire stjernes og er ganske så dyrt. Vi leide leilighet med 2 soverom og synes det mildt sagt er overpriset. Mye
bærer preg av lite vedlikehold og er slitent. Alt for dårlige møbler i leiligheten samt på balkongen. Lekkasje i varmtvannsbereder bl.a.

Virker heller ikke innbydende fra utsiden. Ikke en blomst å se noen plasser. Stort forbedringspotensiale. Frokosten var grei.

Hotelli oli todella kauniilla paikalla lumihuippuisten vuorten ympäröimänä vuonon rannalla. Hotellihuoneen suurista, koko seinän leveydellä olevista ikkunoista oli mahtavaa seurata juhannuksen valoisaa yötöntä yötä. Näimme ikkunasta myös vuonossa uivia delfiinejä.

Kylpyläpalvelut olivat pettymys, kun ulkoporeamme olisi pitänyt vuokrata yksityiskäyttöön, ja hinta kahdelle halvimmillaan 170 €. Saunaan ja poreisiin ei ollut yleisiä vuoroja ollenkaan. Ravintola oli Norjan hintoja ajatellen keskihintainen. Aamiainen oli runsas ja hyvä.

Fikk en fantastisk fint rom, men vi hadde gledet oss å spise i restauranten. Når vi sjekket inn fikk vi vite at på grunn av en bryllupsfeiring kunne vi kun spise inne i puben med en bregrenset meny, pizza burger eller laks. Når plan va å spise reinsdyr og kreps så blir det en stor nedtur å få burger😕 hadde vi bare fått beskjed om det på forhånd så hadde det vært greit. Flere gjester klagde også.

Top Zimmer mit direkter Sicht auf den Fjord. Schöne große Zimmer mit großem Bad. Frühstück gut. Abendessen eher Durchschnitt. Schöne Umgebung zum Wandern.

Hienot näkymät huoneesta

Huoneessa oli +33c lämmin kun saavuimme. Yöllä huoneen lämpö laski +27c parhaimmillaan. Muissakin hotelleissa oli samalla reissulla lämmin, ei noin lämmin kuitenkaan. Ilmanvaihto oli täysin riittämätön, jos ikkunaa ei olisi pitänyt yönkin ajan auki. Huonekohtainen ilmastointi olisi kesällä suotavaa. Huone itsessään todella hieno ja mahtavalla näkymällä. Toivoisi toki että ikkunat olisivat kohtuullisen puhtaat kun maisemahuone kyseessä. Vedenkeitin oli todella törkyinen. Palvelu oli kuitenkin hyvää ja hotellissa saa auton parkkeerata ilmaiseksi hotellin eteen. Hyvät ruuat hotellin baarissa ja aamupala oli maistuva. Vieraillaan todennäköisesti uudelleenkin, jos tuolla seudulla käydään.

Bel hôtel avec une vue magnifique sur le fjord
Les chambres ont d’immenses baies vitrées pour admirer le fjord.
Style très moderne des chambres
Climatisation un peu bruyante
Personnel de l hôtel et réception très sympathique
Petit déjeuner léger et pas à la hauteur d un 4 étoiles
