Stayed for 1 night while passing through and chose this hotel so that we could relax in the pool. Unfortunately. The pool was closed for maintenence (for 3 months!) This was disappointing. However, the room was big and spacious and 2e had a bath over shpwer. Water qas lukewarm (at best) but generally cold which wasnt ideal. Had a kettle in the room but no tea, coffee / coffeemate so was unable to use this

Big clean room, excellent housekeeping, spacious balcony, comfortable bed, tiny ants, but it is an old building not much you can do about it. More wifi would be nice. I will be back.

The place is run down to a point of poor safety. This place should be close for serious maintenance. They should not be able to advertise on Expedia with pics that has nothing to do with the current condition of the hotel. I booked the Honey Moon Suit and is was a jock. This bad is on you Expedia!!!!

Front desk person could be a little more help upon check in.
Negative - Room furnishings & bathroom are a little dated, linen (bath towels) need to be updated as I think the colour was meant to be white not a shade of tan.
Positive - room was very clean, Swimming pool was great, breakfast very filling, restaurant staff were helpful.

Largest Hotel in Town

I only stayed one night here. Spacious rooms with a comfortable bed, For a tourist hotel it was too business like for me as a retired solo traveller. The hotel was near empty so I asked if I could have a room facing the pool and forest but request was quickly shut down so I stayed in a room in front of the main road listening to the traffic all night. The hotel is situated on the outskirts of town so if you have no car a hotel near the lake and night market is preferable

Very unconfortable. A small bathroom, dirty towels. I do not know why it is consider as a resort. The sauna was closed and the pool is small and could not served for swimming. The hotel is about 2 miles from the city and they have shuttle only 6 time in 24 hours.

Peaceful surroundings shattered by a noisy wedding

We have stayed here twice before this time and liked it enough to return. But this visit was disappointing. Thecleaning staff either forgot to leave any water in the rooms or forgot to leave fresh towels.
We had two rooms but unfortunately my room took the full force of loud music.
We stayed 3 nights and have decided not to stay here again.
The dining room is attractive but western food is so limited that we had ham and cheese sandwiches.
Very disappointing this time.

First impressions give a grand impression.

The hotel is a way out of town in a pretty setting just off the main road (but no hint of road noise). There is a free shuttle bus but with somewhat odd running times almost as if the hotel wanted you to eat there rather than in town ;) Thankfully 17:30 proved ideal after busy days exploring with the next available return from town being 19:40.
The beds are typically Thai, rock hard but perhaps with a hint of give. Probably the least hard we encountered.

Given the hotel was nigh on empty, what on earth possessed them to stick guests in consecutive rooms. Our next door neighbours proved quiet but even so , stupid policy on the hotels part.

Carrier pigeon would be faster than the hotel's WiFi. Have a good 4g sim, or patience .. A lot of patience!

The staff were, except for reception, excellent. The hotel is sadly far, far larger than the number of guests and during checkout, reception showed they were probably bored. As the saying goes, want something doing, give it to a busy man. Reception weren't busy!

Overall, we liked it but it's flawed. If the price was perhaps 20% lower then it would be forgiven but for the price in that area, it's not quite good enough for a 5 star review.

the acid test: next time we're in Mae Hong Son would we stay here again, yes.

Reservation made thru Hotels.com and check in was a breeze. The room was spotless and the bed was like a cloud, not too hard or too soft. I wish they would have had coffee available in the room. A nice buffet breakfast had a good selection of foods. Check out was easy as check in, no problems.

Quiet location, beautiful and spacious

Beautiful setting with very spacious room and public areas. Rooms have a big balcony and having one facing the grounds and swimming pool would be animus. The grounds are pleasantly set among lovely trees. Because it's located just outside the city centre, it was fairly quiet and peaceful.

We stayed here 10 years ago and we do not think a penny has been spent on maintaining the property.
Pity because the setting is lovely with a great swimming pool.
The description of the hotel facilities is inaccurate. There are no tea making facilities, no hairdryer in room and no bathrobes provided. These are usually provided as standard in a hotel of this rating.
Breakfast was acceptable, but not a good enough western choice.
They seem to cater for their Asian guests.
There is a complimentary minibus into the town. The advertised times are not really convenient however after inquiring we were told they will take you into the town any time for 50 baht per person.
We suggested this should be advertised on the information board, but no one listened.
In any case it should run once an hour up until 10pm.
At the present time you can go early morning late afternoon.
The town is only 3km along a main road so in the heat it is a long way to walk.
Although we might add we have walked it in the past.
Tuk tuk 100 bahts if you can find one.
Better places to stay in the town, for half the price.
We found a lovely little guesthouse near the lake. Little bungalows.
Also think hotel could be a fire hazard.
They allow smoking and it is almost entirely a wooden construction, hence there is a fire extinguisher in the room.

Pleasant stay

Though I want to keep it a secret, Mae Hong Song has to be one of the most beautiful little towns in Thailand. I loved it because it was quiet, few tourists, fewer signs in English with fewer people able to speak it. This place is great to relax or as a base to visit surrounding attractions. With very light traffic, it's a great place to either get around by scooter or bike. Locals are very friendly and helpful.

Creeky floorboards ,hot water for shower didn't last long, for a bath it did last to full tub. The pool was work in progress the 5 days i was there. The staff were absolutely marvellous the food to die for & the ambiance tranquil a healing place.

I wasn't expecting much from this hotel but it is still quite expensive for what it was. I was given a cottage in the grounds (near the restaurant block) with a adjoining door to the room next door through which I could hear every single word. Worst of all was the overpowering smell of mould which, despite leaving the windows open with a fan blowing to get as much of the air circulating is possible, I was unable to dispel. Dinner at the hotel was okay if not particularly tasty. There is free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel which seems to work well and my TV had several English-language channels on it. The bed and pillows were as hard as a rock & the sound insulation from the room next door was abysmal and I could hear their television throughout the night. The shower had plentiful hot water but the pressure reduced the hotter the water became. Breakfast was better-than-expected with an egg station, croissants and rolls as well as a little bit of fruit as well as fresh strawberry juice which was delicious.

Imperial in Mae Hong Son - Best in the city... but

The resort is a 3-star resort in a 'backwater' tourist area that is more at home servicing campers then city trendsetters. If you come here with those expectations, you will be pleasantly surprised by a great looking rural hotel that is nested inside a great-looking surrounding forest. The patio has an absolutely unbelievable view over a small man-made creek, and was built into the side of a steep hill with 100+ year old trees left intact.

Without a doubt the best in Mae Hong Son. So why only three stars?

Location is the main problem: it's far outside the city, which has little enough to do at night. The main night market and restaurant area is 2 KM away form the hotel. That would be fine in a city, but in Mae Hong Son's case, you are effectively walking outside the city limits. I would not want to do it alone! For almost an entire kilometer, you will be walking alone with zero local pedestrian traffic, and weak country highway street lights. They try to make up for this with a shuttle service (17:30, 19:30, 21:00 and 22:00), but as you can see, the times are few and missing one results in a long wait in a small downtown.

The other is the technological age of the hotel. While the wood furnishings are timeless and mimic classic Thai bamboo styles, you will find early 90's era big-box TVs, single line phones from the 80's, air conditioning units that rumble like a truck engine going uphill, and a lack of things we take for granted now (such as radios, alarm clocks, iPod connections etc). At least they offer wireless!

All this said, it's a lovely little hotel in the countryside that lets you enjoy rural life without giving up too much of your city comforts. You'll have your own bathroom with turndown service. There are nice, clean hardwood floors. And very key: no mosquitoes in your room here! I'm very glad I came here.

Grand Old Dame badly in need of a makeover

Locality is good and layout is nice.Grand Old Dame looking worn out. Musty smell pervading corridors. Bathroom wet all the time because of poor construction of the bathtub. Faucets need replacement badly. Breakfast has poor variety and only porridge and fried rice as Thai food, what a shame!!!! Is the hotel catering to westerners only....I wonder.More for cheap tour groups from the West!

Comfortable Hotel, Beautiful Location, Indifferent Staff

While quite luxurious for Mae Hong Son and with a beautiful setting overlooking the river and mountains, the staff at this Hotel are at best indifferent and at worst quite unfriendly. As the Hotel is about 4 km from the town centre, you will need transport (although the Hotel does run a rather infrequent shuttle service). They seemed reluctant to call me a tuk tuk so I had to hire a motor bike in town to solve the problem.

I attempted to book a day tour of the surrounding region, but their booking agent initially quoted me over 2 times the going rate, so I simply walked away and took off for the mountains on my bike. To top it off, when I checked out, the reception staff attempted to charge me a second time, even though I had pre-paid on-line. While obviously a simple mistake, no apologies or explanation was forthcoming from the staff. They just shrugged their shoulders, walked away and left me standing at the counter, bill in hand!
