Swimming pool is great but they let too many people in one of the days u couldn't swim it was so packed.
Good selection for breakfast but my kids not so happy that both mornings the pancake machine was out of order.

Average hotel at best. Definitely not a 4 star as rated. Repairs needed to round seating area at front, skirting in breakfast dining room needing replaced vadly and flaking paint in room. On hotels. com receipt, stated check-in was 3pm but told when we got to hotel it was 4pm and our room was not ready. Staff friendly enough.

Great location to monaghan town we stayed start of November and the only issue we had was the room was uncomfortably cold with no way to control the temperature we made several requests to front desk to rectify . Would not stay here again in the winter months

Very Disappointing
We booked the honeymoon suite to start off our first few days as husband and wife and were bitterly disappointed. There was mould on the wall and throughout the night the lights kept coming on. There were alot of children running around our floor and the floor was shaking everytime they passed the door. The shower kept cutting off (lack of pressure) and when i mentioned the issues at checkout it was completely dismissed.

We had an amazing stay at the Hillgrove, we were 2 couples and got 2 rooms beside each other which was handy. We got a meal in the bar on the Saturday night goujons and chicken burger was over cooked i got the duck with noodles which i couldn't find one fault with it was amazing. Unfortunately our service wasn't great had to ask twice were our drinks were we must have waited 15mins on them...then breakfast the next morning we ordered 4 full fry,s and had our frys nearly ate before we received our toast other than that there was nothing else i could complain about....had a great overnight stay but probably wouldn't go back till the entertainment starts back up in the hotel.

Hotel is ok rooms are a bit tired disappointed we were not informed that use of the spa was not included with our stay. We used the leisure facilities which were extremely busy with young families and went to the spa the next morning. The Spa was not as clean as I would expect but we did have treatments which were excellent.

All I can say why would a Hotel place a single business traveller in a room where direct below is a children’s playground, I love the sound of children playing and as a father of 4 , I really don’t mind.
However !! when the children are allowed to play in the playground until 11.20pm
I made the reception aware at 9.35pm of the noise and it continued until 11.20pm I just find it totally unacceptable not just for me but for other guests who are trying to sleep.
For the amount of money I paid for one night £125.00 all I expected was a room where I could rest and sleep without being disturbed, I was also told as I left the Hotel this morning the management would call me as of 17.30pm I am still waiting for a call.
This was my 3rd and final stay at this hotel

Booked this for our kids and it didn’t disappoint. Had a bouncy castle indoors in the morning which was fab because he weather wasn’t great. Lovely outdoor play area, pool and the family room was a good size. Enjoyed our stay.

My experience at the Hilgrove Hotel included a number of experiences, all of which would lead me to never recommend this hotel to friends, family, or any other travelers for that matter.
Pluses to this hotel: Front desk staff was helpful; Room was simple and clean
Negatives to this hotel: Unexpected breakfast charges after being told it was included; no air conditioning on 30 degree days (leading to no sleep & at the request of a room change, a small cheap fan that did not cool the room sufficiently) but don't worry, the hallways are air conditioned?; and finally, rude spa/pool/bar staff. I am not certain this locale understands customer service because it seemed the staff was there to collect a pay cheque but not be inconvenienced.
This being my first visit to Ireland, overall I found the people friendly, pleasant, and I was extremely grateful for an overall good experience. This hotel did not contribute.

Bar prices in function room are a rip off
Bar prices in the function room are higher than in the bar. Staff initially refused a receipt and when one was insisted on the receipt was for less than I had been asked to pay. This was not an isolated incident at the event and when I raised it with hotel management their response was less than satisfactory advising us if we wanted to pursue the issue to raise it with the police. Tell your guests to buy their drink I. The bar and bring it into the function room or insist on a receipt.

went for a relaxing few days at Easter but was over-run with children; children were in the bar at 11.30pm at night and the foyer was like a race track; went to our room at 12.30am and children still running around.

We really enjoyed our stay it was very relaxing and great to get a night free from kids. The only reason I wouldn't recommend to anyone is the price we paid €170 at reception they told me it was €190! We paid that for a basic room and an average breakfast and I think that is very expensive for a bed and a fry. Staff were very friendly and accommodating though and I loved the decor it's very different but really cool.

Hotel is fine, nice friendly staff, clean and comfortable rooms. BUT be prepared to be woken up every time some one shuts a door in the hotel. the door closers are so strong every door in to hotel \"BANGS SHUT\". shaking the room.

Nice hotel, my favourite in Monaghan, the staff are helpful and friendly and make for a pleasant stay. The room was comfortable and quite with free Wi-Fi but not all my on-line services would work as they do in other hotels e.g. could not stream Sky TV from my account using my ipad

Was there for a wedding. The guest beside me was vegetarian.. When her dinner was set down it was a plate of onions peppers done in a watery tomato coloured liquid in I thought was a bit of bread turned out to be a soggy unedible lump of filo pastry and a pile of lettuce and a roast potato!!!! As a 4 star hotel the chef should be able to produce something more appetising that that!! She didnt complain not wanting to make a fuss at a wedding but I thought it was shocking!!! I wish now Id taken a picture!!

This was my first visit to The Hillgrove Hotel on the occasion of my niece's Wedding 28th October. From check in to check out we had a lovely time. The Wedding Meal was delicious and the Staff and service were great!
