2.5 Stars at best

This hotel was 2.5 stars at best, the teeny tiny pool was a blessing for a quick cool off after the hot walk back from the beach club, and Lena in the breakfast room was AMAZING.

The highlights of the stay were that the air conditioning worked, towels were refreshed daily, beach towels were available to borrow daily and there was a small fridge in the room which was useful. They were good about letting us know that some airpods were left behind so we could collect them, which was nice.

Not 4 star

The hotel is situated along a large noisy freeway, with a city block length walk either way to a safe crossing for either public beach (left) or private beach club (right) as well as for the tram stops. There is very little in the way of shops or restaurants close by. The hotel bar was only open for a couple of hours in the evening (would have been better from 4 pm instead of 6 pm).

We booked a \"standard double\" room. The room was in desperate need of a refurb and the bathroom needed a thorough bleaching. The mould in the tiny little shower was grim, fittings not well secured and overall just thoroughly worn out.

We didn't have robes or slippers supplied (which were noted in room description), the safe was locked by a key you needed to ask reception for, and you had to remake your bed every night as housekeeping removed your top sheet every single time. The room was not soundproofed at all - you could hear everything in the hallway, stairs and the freeway out the front.

The older staff was very helpful and polite the other staff extort guests by asking for money to save you a parking spot very noisy in the morning with all the construction no real parking you may have to pay staff to hold a parking spot for you if you bring an additional guest they ask for cash if you think your going get a room using a card forget about it 0 stars

Beautiful beach is located right across the street to the right (clear water), easy access to local bus which will take you to downtown or Acropolis about 45min 10-15 minute walk. My 1st time in Greece, I was kind of worried about not being close to a nice beach. The beach was perfect - calm and clear.

property, location and staff great The only drawback for me was noise. very busy street and the bumping of the Disco down the street heard thru double-double pained glass.would ve a very happening place for party goers durring the peak season! That being said It was across the street from the beach and only 15 min away from our departure port. And after a very long travel day no noise bothered me enough to keep me up! would recommend location.

Good location. Clean. Friendly staff. Broken water pipe in bathroom so had to wait an hour for maintenance. Air conditioner is controlled by the front desk. You have to call them to turn it on, off, or adjust the temperature…very annoying! You can’t just go in the pool. You have to have a reservation. Pool is tiny. No instructions for how to operate the room safe. We were told that breakfast goes until 10:30 but the guy was wrong because he was new. Showed up at 10:15 and everything was gone.

Friendly and very helpful staff. Room was clean and housekeeping every day (in spite of their Covid guidelines stating it wouldn’t be available). Room was basic and not a 4* as experienced in U.K./US. Centrally controlled air conditioning was problematic in Athens 32 C however staff were very responsive when called for this and a shower door that had no seal so resulted in a flooded bathroom! Sea views also mean you face the very busy dual carriageway although with double glazing x2 it’s an underlying hum. Very close to bus/tram for travel into the city centre. Also we were told the day before travel the pool was closed due to Covid. Breakfast buffet was varied and plentiful.

Very poor breakfast, rotten products and terrible service. Located very far from the centre. Everything is very far even a greek restaurant is very far away. The beach is across a main street that the pedestrian cross is far away.
Very disappointing to end our trip this way in that hotel.

Comfortable hotel with top service

An excellent hotel in Alimos. The area didn't become a favourite but thanks to the friendly and helpful staff the hotel did.
A breakfast buffet with a good variety was included.
I stayed in a spacious, comfortable suite with amazing panoramic view of the sea.
It's a convenient location close to public transport and several marinas.
What makes this hotel stand out is the very welcoming and professional staff. Everybody I encountered, at the reception, restaurant and maintainance were ever so friendly and helpful.

This is a basic low cost hotel. the staff were very pleasant but all public areas and the pool out of bounds due to COVID. The hotel was very careful in ensuring a safe COVID aware environment. The room was small, slightly tired and the bathroom also basic. You get what you pay for. the sea is over the road (dual carriageway) and so a morning dip easily achieved.

This is a sad side of town that needs a total revamp from it's deteriorating 60s look. The hotel was clean and the room was spacious & overlooked the sea. However, the bed sheets were too small to be able to be tucked in & the TV went out while we were there ( they said because of a storm).The Staff was very friendly and tried to be helpful.

Unfortunately a very noisy air conditioner in the suite could only be controlled by reception staff. A temperature adjustment needed a phone call. Main road noise was also very bad. Staff were very helpful and did the best they could but we did not get any sleep due to the very hot nights, loud aircon and very noisy road.

I booked this hotel based on written info on hotel page in Expedia but unfortunately the pool not working that said it is seasonal \"not mention for that on hotel page\" the beds instead of double in executive suit it is 2 joining single beds that's made me disappointed.. But to be fair the view for front rooms (not side rooms) is very wonderful but try to stay at third or forth floor to enjoy the view clearly... The breakfast is good by the way

Nice hotel close to the bay with bay view.

Overall it was a good experience, great location! Rooms are small but they keep them very clean. Some of the staff could have been friendlier, however, there was one younger girl and a younger guy that was amazing. They went above and beyond to help us find nearby restaurants and even printed out directions for us. Restaurant staff was great and very friendly and food was excellent.

Upon arriving, we were greeted very warmly by the receptionist. We had driven a long way to get there and were a bit tired, but he was very patient. The hotel staff was gracious enough to cancel our reservation the night before due to our travel plans changing at the last minute and we needed more time to get to Athens than expected. (I canceled our one-night booking but then booked 2 more nights for the rest of our stay in Athens.) The front desk staff who greeted could not have been nicer, but it was literally his last day there. Wherever he is going is gaining a very hospitable staff member. We were there offseason so we did not take advantage of the swimming pool or the proximity to the sea (except to have dinner). Overall, a great value and good experience. One thing to hotel can't control, except with sound-proof windows, is travel noise.

Beds are short and very hard with mold in the bathroom. The property is not on the beach but across the major highway to the center of Athens with traffic 24 hrs daily.

Rooms are quite small with a balcony so tiny you cannot even sit to look out on the highway.

From the pictures I was expecting something a little different.. more beachy. The room was very outdated. The telephone was in the bathroom, the mini bar required a key from the front desk and there was a window in the shower. This hotel is also right next to a strip club.. like next door neighbors. It is a short walking distance to the bus stops that go to the airport and trains. The breakfast was amazing. There was lots of variety and fresh baked baklava, and greek traditional foods.

The person checking us in had a major attitude, the room door squeaked extremely loudly, which made it difficult not to wake up my partner, the room blackout shade is only half the window size so the sun will wake you up anyway and you can't mount the shower head to the wall.. the mattresses are super hard, but surprisingly, we've had a decent night of sleep. The view was nice, but the road next to the hotel so busy we couldn't comfortably sit on the balcony. The breakfast was decent and restaurant staff nice.

The moment we walked into this hotel, we were welcomed by the most warm and friendly staff, Alexandria. She was extremely helpful with some tips, and places to visit. Such a sweet girl, even let us borrow her phone charger for a few hours since we did not have a european converter.

The room was very clean and comfortable. Loved the breakfast, with variety of options.

Finally, the location was perfect. It was not in the center, which we originally wanted to avoid the crowds. However, 2 minute walk to the bus/trams that take you pretty much anywhere in Athens. There's also a very lovely beach, and some very cool bars and a night club (which was less than a 3 minute walk).

Luxury without the price tag.

Fantastic stay. A small hotel with the the luxuries of a higher end one. Great buffet breakfast, the pool area was great but didn't use as the beach was across the street. The bed was super comfortable, the room well laid out with great storage and the bathroom clean and with a rain shower head with body jets. The staff were very courteous, friendly and very helpful. A wonderful stay with wonderful view of mountains and ocean.

We had a good stay at the tropical hotel. The staff are kind and helpful. We had a bottle of champaign in our room for the new year eve. The morning buffet food is good. Only small issues we had was there was not much of a menu choice for eating in the hotel restaurant and the surrounding area and shops were mostly deserted. But that's probably because we visited Alimos during winter period which is off season.

The gentleman at the front desk was lovely. Unfortunately the hotel is on a main thoroughfare, the photos online look like its a breezy city hotel on a beach. The traffic is very noisy and goes most of the night. Breakfast was very nice with lots of options hot and cold. We tried to have a Peter dinner onsite but there were only a few things actually available on the entire menu.

easy to get to from airport, just one bus and just one train to get to the city. super easy and the stops are right next to hotel. employees were super nice the whole time and really helpful specially with directions and they even provided a converter since i had left mine at home. breakfast was delicious and had a nice lounge area and pool and room with balcony, super great. but yeah beds were rock solid and carpet a weird color but not much of it so it didn't matter. still not the worst hotel experience I've had, one of the nicer ones actually specially for the price, it was great.

Overall the stay was comfortable, however the location is quite poor, there is not much food accessibility. (hotel restaurant was very expensive) Airport shuttle has no connection to the hotel, despite their description stating a hotel-airport shuttle available for a fee.. this is a city shuttle bus half a mile down the road, and the staff were not overly helpful with this at all. AS well the Wifi left something to be desired, poor connection, and not functional enough to do basic things, would have expected more for the price of the stay. Comfort and cleanliness wise the hotel is lovely, however that would be all I would credit them with.

We stayed in a junior suite that had a big terrace facing the sea. View was very nice and we really liked the terrace.Room was equipped with a jacuzzi from where you also had a sea view. In front of the hotel is a street with quite heavy traffic noise but it didn't bother us. Hotel is located by the sea and with good connections to everywhere. I would come back anytime!

Overrated, but not terrible.

I believe the hotel description was misleading on many levels. The hotel is not bad, however it did not meet the ratings and listed accommodations. A couple examples where the hotel fell short were room cleanliness, airport transport, and nearby restaurants.
The beds had long strands of hotel staff hair in the sheets, the faux hardwood flooring was buckling and a tripping hazard in the middle of floor, and the breakfast food was left out over night and stale in the morning and I watch hotel staff layout food by hand, without gloves and continue to wipe their nose.
A primary reason for selecting the hotel was due to the convenience of airport transport listed as an amenity, however this was not true. Hotel staff said there was a bus line up the street.
Lastly, the hotel is not located to many local restaurants, for lunch hours at least. We were displeased in general with the hotel and decided to take a cab away from the area and back to central Athens for food and fun.
I admit, it may have been our mistake to select a hotel away from downtown Athens or not being as resourceful as other may be with finding things to do around the hotel. Overall, I would not recommend the hotel based on our experiences and believe it to be overrated.

Nice hotel close to beach

Overall, not a bad stay. The hotel is close to the beach (you have to cross the four lane highway, but there are crosswalks). Room is nice with a balcony and it is cleaned everyday. Hotel is quiet for the most part. There was some noise you could hear from the restaurant on the first floor; I was on the third floor. The only negatives were the fact that there were virtually no restaurants close by without having to take the tram. There's a kebab restaurant close which I ate at a few times due to convenience and was actually very good. Other than that, to get a decent meal at a decent price, your best bet would be to eat in the city center before coming back at night to the hotel. There is a restaurant in the hotel, but they only serve a few items from their menu and everything is 12 euro. I only ate there for breakfast since it was included in my room rate. The other negative was the hotel staff. For the price of the hotel and the fact that it is a four star, you would expect that the staff would be friendly and accommodating; this was not the case. They had the appearance that they did not like tourists and whenever you asked a question a brief and hurried answer would be provided with a sullen look on their face. When I checked out early in the morning as well, I had to wake one of the staff members who had fallen asleep.

Okay hotel

A generally okay hotel. Stayed in April 2015. Unfortunately, the beach opposite the hotel is more of a pebble beach which was quite disappointing for us. However, a couple of stops away on the tram, there is a beautiful sandy beach.

Some of the staff were very helpful, however, others, less so. We wanted to book a 3 Islands in One Day cruise through the hotel (they had the leaflets on display and assured us this was something they could do). We were told on 3 separate occasions to \"come back later\". It was getting closer and closer to the day when we wanted go on the cruise and we ended up booking the cruise ourselves online, for fear that when we came back later, they would just delay us again.

While there isn't much to do around the hotel, there's a tram stop close by which takes you to the beach and the centre of Athens. Also, about a 25-minute walk there are a couple of nice restaurants.

Was also useful to have the airport express bus stop right outside the hotel.

Tropical is like a slightly upmarket Travelodge - the staff were very welcoming - room clean & comfortable - double glazing cut out any outside noise - b/fast very good choice - 1/4 of the price of London, with a balcony & sea view - wish you got this value in the UK - well done to the staff at the Tropical Hotel in Alimos!!!!!

The view was terrific!!

The staff was helpful as well.

The only down side was not much was within walking distance of the hotel so we had to taxi into town for restaurants, shopping and activities.

What a great stay staff were lovely and helpful. Our room was standard double...really big clean and well furnished.
Breakfast was a good choice...couldn't fault anything and would book again.
Transport very near by and straightforward.

Not as good as expected

This hotel deserves at best 2 or 2.5 stars; not sure how they show up as 4 stars here.

Small hotel room, uncomfortable beds. Wifi is slow and only works about 70% of the time. The pool is a really bad joke - small, ice cold, and full of sand and leaves. Breakfast is acceptable, but not more than that; restaurant has a limited selection of dishes on the menu, and only 3-4 of them were available anyway (no pizza for instance, which the kids weren't happy about). The staff were nice and did their best to help us, but their abilities were limited - couldn't tell us where to buy bus/tram tickets or where the stop for the airport bus was, so we had to figure it out ourselves.

The area (Glyfada) is nice for lying on the beach, but there are very few restaurants or anything else there. Next time, I'll pay a bit more to stay at a good hotel in Athens proper.

Nice hotel, friendly staff

The Tropical Hotel sits close to the sea, it was clean with very friendly and helpful staff.
public transport to the middle of Athens was available and plentiful and we enjoyed our stay in this hotel.
The only things we found wrong were that the patio doors didn't lock (could be a danger for children) and of course security, our only other complaint was that the beds were uncomfortably hard.

Athens is great, hotel can be better.

Amazing city with great people, great food and amazing culture. The nightlife scene is very alive and happening, not just 1 type of crowd hanging out and exploring. People of all ages converge and explore the city and it's attributes, everyone should and must explore downtown Athens especially Syntagma Square and the corresponding markets that surround it. The beaches are a must to visit and explore, take a trip down to Alimos, Atticos it wont ruin your experience, it'll only make it better. The music, the food, the people, the atmosphere is nothing but fun, fun, fun. Their is literally an inflate-able water park in the ocean. Their is so much to do and see, the ease of access to the tram, train and bus. is another huge plus. Food can be a bit pricey if you are on a tight budget, but worth it in some establishments, the grocery store/market is your friend if you have time to stop and shop. The restaurants differ depending on your personal taste and preferences.Real Greek food will taste great and delicious no matter the price point so don't be afraid to eat all over. Try everywhere you can it's a different experience for everyone.

Very little staff but who tried to do their best bar kept shutting If u needed a drink u had to find someone to serve u ,also kept running out of drinks , breakfast very poor ,orange squash cold food most of the time , beds very hard Bedding poor quality ,had to descale bath taps so we could run bath a bit quicker , lock on patio door broken lock for fridge broken over all would not recomend this hotel to anyone

Nice and close to beach

Staff were very friendly and helpfull, the cleanliness of the hotel was very good. Only problem was single beds were much to small. Found myself on the edge a few times Could do with an extra few inches added on to the widths. Overall though good.

Good location for beach, tram & buses

The hotel is very comfortable and well presented, the breakfast was very good, plenty of choice and the meals in the evening were very tasty although not as much choice. The location is very good in that it is close to a beach and you can easily catch a bus or the tram to visit Athens itself or along the coast, but, the hotel is right next to a six lane (3 each way) very busy road, all day and all night so it is not relaxing to sit on your balcony as it is very noisy, also the walls are very thin so in our room we could hear doors slamming, drawers closing, people talking loudly and bodily functions. Apart from a couple of people I felt the staff were not very friendly or helpful, but taking everything into account I would still recommend this hotel. One other thing I would recommend would be to buy the 5 day weekly ticket for the tram/buses and metro (it does not cover transport to and from the airport) for ten euros, you can buy it at the tram stop in Syntagma Square, we used it every day.

Great for exploring, close to beach & transport

We didn't spend much time at the hotel as we were so busy out on the town or using the tram (across the road) to venture out. The staff were friendly and helpful, and gave great tips on using public transport to get where we wanted to go - saving us a fortune had we booked excursions (one trip alone saved us about 70 Euros). It's about an hour to the centre of Athens by tram, you can also get to Pireaus Port in one direction, and Voulas in the other. A short bus trip from Voulas takes you to Vougliamenis beach, which is really worth the trip.
We only had breakfast on one morning, as we were making the most of the coffee shops and tavernas, but the day we did eat at the hotel it was good - buffet style with lots of options, plus coffee and fruit juice. Great value hotel in a good location. Only downside is that the main road at the front was loud, but we wore ourselves out enough to sleep through it!
