Clean, friendly staff, quiet hotel

Clean, centrally located, yet quiet hotel by the beachside. The building has a delightful architecture with helpful and friendly staff. The mattress could’ve been more comfortable but in the grand scheme of things it wasn’t a big issue. I even got a nice goodie back at my hotel check-in. Would definitely stay again if I’m back in the area.

The staff were very helpful and welcoming ti the property which was a converted dutch house. Rooms were snug but clean and comfortable. Mosquitos were a bit of a problem but they were treating this every day which helped a lot. Good selection of food for breakfast with some hot cooked fresh inclusing masala dosa and eggs (any preferred way). As we had an early flight home they packed us breakfast which was very kind. Use the hotel organksed spa for ayurvedic massage/facials which was great. Location was right in fort kochi so was convenient to walk around the area.

Good stay

This hotel was good—looks nice and rooms are nice. The staff is very helpful and very accommodating—even with our middle-of-the-night checkout/departure. The food menu is somewhat limited but that's not surprising given that it's a small place. Our bathroom had a bad sewage-type odor when we arrived but it seemed to have been fixed after housekeeping. I'd stay again.

Clean and comfortable stay in Fort Cochin

The room was very clean and spacious with a nice separate sitting area. The hotel is located quite close to the waterfront, and not too far from several shops and restaurants. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I enjoyed my stay here and would return again.

Great service

After two weeks of travelling through Tamil Nadu and Kerala, we ended our trip at Amritara, and were so happy we did. Very spacious rooms, comfortable beds and large bathrooms gave us the comfort we needed to wind down and prepare for long journeys home.

The area is quiet and within easy walking distance to busier parts of the town. Breakfast was ok, but service was slow - fortunately we had leisurely morning for this, but it wouldn't work for those with less time.
Service was wonderful from Nancy, who accommodated our late departing flight with a late check-out - being able to shower prior to heading to the airport made all the difference!

heritage hotel

We were expecting a more up market looking place but soon any disappointment faded - the location opposite the sea and next to the old dutch cemetery was easy, the breakfast was generous and good, the hotel staff were very kind and helpful. We had a room upgrade and were allowed a late checkout. I grew to really enjoy our room and verandah in this small heritage hotel. I'd check out the group's hotels in other locations. Thanks to the manager and staff.

Great staff but otherwise disappointing

The hotel was not up to our expectations of a heritage hotel for the money we paid.
The bed was not very comfortable, we thought we would get an inner spring mattress.
You also had to let the shower run for 10mins before any warm water came through . The breakfast was also very average.
The staff however were very friendly and welcoming and helpful with questions.

lovely hotel, warm and friendly

An Oasis, it was lovely, the staff were delightful, warm and friendly, polite and just couldn't do enough for you. I will never forget their warm friendly smiles. we loved the place so much we spent the last day of our travels in the pool garden before our flight home.
we met some fellow travellers here and they ranged from young lone travellers to older couples touring, everybody enjoyed and relaxed.
sitting around the pool was the best place to listen to other travel stories. lovely.

Could have be \"Great\"!

The service staff for the most part was great. Warm, friendly with the exception of some staff at breakfast who clearly did not want to be there serving guests (female individual) and made for a less than good start to the day.

Overall the cost and quality was as expected and again, general service was attentive and friendly. The ONLY very odd item is their \"mandatory eat with us policy for New Year's Eve\" which was wrong for two reasons: 1) It was not on the hotel.com site when we booked in July. 2) No hotel should make this a \"mandatory\" item. We are there on vacation, not at the whim of business requirements. This left a very sour taste in our mouth for the remainder of the trip. Finally, while the amenities were clean, I do no believe they properly sterilize and clean their pool filters. Each morning, I can see from my room that they add water and pick up leaves but no chemicals were measured. tested or added. In India, with water quality as risky as it is, this should be \"mandatory\"

Great heritage property

Terrific sense of history well located to the venues of the Kochi Biennale! The room on the ground floor just looked into a wall with no view and little natural light. The hotel has no liquor license. It's best to request one of the rooms on the upper floor facing the Sea.

Lovely hotel, but standard rooms are tiny.

The building is lovely, but we were in a standard room and they are very small. To get to the bathroom required walking around the end of the bed and to do so required walking sideways, as the gap between the end of the bed and the wall is very narrow.

Nice location, but too expensive compare to what you get, There are several nice guesthouses in the area that will provide the same comfort included breakfast at a much lower rate.

Great Location

Great Location, very close to beach, hardly 100 meters. Hotel room & bathroom were good. The hotel was not a luxury hotel but its value for money. Staff was also very supportive.

very disappointing

Service was terrible. We had no hot water on first night or following morning. Staff offered no solution or recompense for this. We had to continue to insist it was fixed otherwise they would have done nothing about it. On our final night and morning of departure, again we had no hot water.
They advertise room service but do not tell you the phone number to contact them. They say there is tea making facilites in the room but there were not (and we were upgraded!).

The restaurant is supposed to be open all day but there are no staff present so you can sit for a long time waiting for service with no way to contact them.

We used their laundry service and clothes came back stained and dirtier than when put in. When we complained, staff tried to suggest that the stains had been there when the laundry was put in, which was not true. At least they did not charge us for that.

When we arrived out bedroom floor was very dirty, but this was resolved the following morning by house keeping.

Close to the sights and sea-breezes!

Really enjoyed my stay at the Poovath Heritage Hotel. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Lovely dining room and balcony facing the sea. Nice swimming pool too.

Hotel Not Recomended For a Long Stay. Over-Priced.

Attention-Reservation Manager.

I Felt the Hotel was Over Priced for the amenities it Provides.
There was No Coffee/Tea Maker in the Room. All Modern hotels have it,for that Price.
Shower was too Complicated to Operate.
The Bath Tub should have been Fixed to the Wall and Cemented
to the Ground,Also the Bath Tub should have had a Shower Curtain.
As a Result Water fell on the ground. 'No Hot water'.
There was Nothing to See around the Hotel, Except the Beach which was
Crowded and with Pebbles, so No chance to Swim in Fort Kochi.
There should be a Big Table for Guest to Write Or Check the internet, But instead a Small
Table where Two Plates & a Pot of Coffee for Two Could Not Properly Fit, in the Room.
I Didnt see anyone Visiting the Restaurant for Diner in Poovath Hotel Compared to Oceanic.
Staff were Nice & Friendly, No doubt.
Overall the Hotel should Not Cost more then 70$.

This is perfect location, away from Crowds, and close to beach. Rooms could be a little cleaner,but this is India after all. They let me check in earlyon two occasions, and have full time security., Big rooms, loads of hot water and easy office staff,

The service of the reception - high standard. The hotel sits by the Dutch cemetery may not be trivial to everyone (like me) and should be noted before check-in , One should make sure the view from the room is ok. Breakfast - variety as well as service needs to be improved.

Great Hotel close to all the sights

There are cheaper hotels with the same rating as this one, but overall it is a good hotel. Clean and friendly staff. A little pricey for Cochin, but for comfort and no hassels, it is perfect. My only complaint was th einternet connection while free was weak. They need to upgrade their Wifi.

An enjoyable three days

The 160 year old building is in a fascinating location, at the end of the land once occupied by the original Portuguese fort, adjoining the old Dutch cemetary on one side, and a large private house dating to a similar period on the other, and fronting onto an area of open space that has the small and well used public beach, and the well travelled public sea front walk to the Chinese fishing nets . The small walled garden, shaded by an enormous rain tree and with a pleasant swimming pool, is green and quiet. I took the advice of other reviewers and took a room at the front upstairs with the sea view which was delightful - everything worked, the glassed-in porch with its day bed was great for watching beach life and the walkers on the sea front, and the breakfast area and outside balcony also pleasant for sitting enjoying the sound of the waves and watching the boats and ships coming in and out. I ate several meals at the hotel, all freshly and attractively prepared, and the hotel staff also arranged taxi rides to and from the airport with good drivers. There were a number of other heritage hotels within walking distance with good dining facilities for variety.

Lovely hotel, great location, nice people, great room. I only stayed here one night but it was really good value. I spoke to another guy who paid 2/3 what I paid in a nearby hotel and his place was no where near as good. The interior is really nice and it is very close to the sea.

Beautiful colonial building with simple decoration such as Dutch planters chairs. As our room was downstairs, it was nicely quiet. For two of us, big enough room with high ceilings, two big twin beds and a large bathroom. We had the terrace and pool to ourselves as there were very few guests that weekend. Location is nice but view on the sea is limited while the large, old building & the Dutch cemetary next door are impressive. Friendly staff. Breakfast was perfectly fine but we went out for other meals as it was too empty.. Overall a good experience but the place is missing something very unique like a warm host or more decoration.

staff not very friendly infact quite miserable not making much effort to meet our needs.No incentive to eat in the restaurant as no interest in us as guests,Did lend us an umbrella to go out in the rain.Swimming Pool area not attended to which is a surprise given there were plenty of staff not doing much else.Breakfast was very poor.
