The shower drain wasn't working properly, we stayed 4 nights and they never cleaned the room, nor changed the towels, the bed sheets were so stained they weren't white anymore. The only pleasant thing was the theatrics of the receptionist lady.

Towels and wash rags were stained and dirty looking, and the main highway is literally 50 feet from your door..so traffic noise is pretty loud...the heater did not work well either.
Then check out is 10 30 a.m. , so it was just ok..but not a great stay.

Cute little motel. Most motels are pretty sketchy, but this was a cute little building that my wife and I loved. I took off one star from the clean writing because the first night there was dog hair or something on our comforter on the bed and on the first layer of sheets under that but once we notified them they took care of it immediately.

Quiet, Quaint, Clean & Comfortable!

We stay here every year and sometimes twice a year and we love it! It’s always a great experience. Although it is a small, no frills roadside motel, that is just fine, it’s quiet, quaint, clean, comfortable, very reasonably priced and the owners and staff are always very nice and accommodating! It fit us perfect and we enjoy our stay every time! Highly recommended!

The motel was very clean and fresh. It looked like it had been newly remodeled. There was a refrigerator in microwave and coffee maker. Had a nice safety bar to step in and out of the shower. Bed was very comfortable. There was a nice table and two chairs.

The room was too dim to even read in, sheets had stains on them, no wifi, tv was small and the picture was not sharp, the mattress was uncomfortable and when you lay down in it there was a distinct slant to where your head was significantly lower than your feet (I actually had to sleep with my feet towards the headboard).

You checked in at a walk up window. The room had an intense fragrance. It was overpowering. The road noise was loud. The next day my clothes all still smelled off that awful room!

Moving to the area / one night stay

We are in the process of moving to the area from Indiana. I was taking a load to the new house from Indiana and was heading back home. I need some place to stay the night, because new house is not ready. Murphy Motel was quick and easy from it's location. The motel is older, but well taken care of. The best value for the area! The room was clean and quiet. It had a hot shower, a good heater, good bed, supplied coffee, and a TV. Probably, the only negative, the towels and bedding had been cleaned so many times, they were rough and needed to be replaced. Other than that, I would definitely go back!

They were accommodating but I booked a smoking room and it's all non-smoking which was an inconvenience. The bathroom light kept flickering on and off. I never got the wifi password the whole time I was there which effected a few things. It was clean and quiet which was very nice.

The bed was VERY comfortable. The room was in need of a good cleaning...dust all over back of door (I wiped the doors, counters and sink off before using). Very easy to find, but there is nothing close by...we were starving and it was a 20 min or so trip back the way we came to find something to eat. All rooms were nonsmoking which was nice, but smoking was allowed outside right in fron of the room so you could smell smoke. For the room I felt I overpaid.

The room was clean. It had a mini fridge, microwave and individual coffee maker.
If you have a bad back, though, it’s not the best choice because the beds are very soft … too soft to provide support. If you love soft, cozy mattresses that you sink down into, it would be perfect for you.

Good stay in Murphy

This is a nice and quiet stay with a perfect location. Very close to the Nantahala Forest. For the price it can't be beat! Some minor cosmetic repairs are needed, but nothing serious at all, and you can tell they are being worked on. The cleanliness more than makes up for it. I've stayed in chain hotels that are more expensive, but aren't anywhere near as clean as Murphy Motel is. The manager is friendly and kind, and went out of his way to make sure I had a pleasant stay! The best part of my stay was sitting outside my room at night (they have chairs!) and talking with my motel room neighbors. This has become my go-to stay for Murphy!

I have stayed at Murphy Hotel before and it wasn’t so bad. But I guess you get what you pay for. The temperature couldn’t get regulated, either too hot or too cool. There were bugs in the room. A centipede crawled out from the sink, a roach walking around on the bathroom counter. There was no reception even with Wi-Fi to make calls. No plugs near the bed to charge the phone or other electronics.

Room was clean but bathroom had roaches crawling on floor during our 2 day stay. Our bed was not made up when we came back in room and neither were extra towels left for us to use and dirty towels were still there. My guess is that they don't provide this service and you have to ask for it. I believe we can get better service at another hotel for the price we paid for this one.

I can not speak for all of the rooms in the motel. But, the room that I was given was clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly and courteous. The motel is an older motel, but from my experience, it has been maintained very well. I would stay at this motel again, if I ever need to travel to Murphy again.

I've stayed here Mutiple times. Most things were top notch as usual but this time the not in your face stuff was dirty. The back side of doors where you touch to shut, nothing in the room to make notes on. The stay was quite, very comfortable. good refrigerator to freeze my ice packs and chill my water. The chairs outside each room is a nice touch.

Wow! (In the worst of ways...)

Where do I begin? I usually don't write reviews but will for exceptional service, or in this case, the worst. From the time we were checking in, I was suspect of the motel. They hand you, and make you sign, a small cardstock type card which reads (I'm paraphrasing), \"You agree to no unlawful activities inside your room and swear that the person you're staying with is your girlfriend/boyfriend or spouse.\" When we entered our room, there were bugs all over the sink, stuck in the cobwebs in the corners of the room, and mold covered the bathroom walls. Even then, we had had a long day and inspected the bed/mattress to see if it was \"doable\" for the night. The mattress was covered, and I mean covered with stains. I'll let you decide from what - but they did not appear to be simple sweat stains. We literally spent 5 minutes using the restroom, inspected the room and decided against staying. We drove back to Asheville and got a room. Absolutely the most disgusting room I've ever walked into in my 42 years... We actually joked on the way to Asheville, \"How much money would it take for you to stay in that room?\" Needless to say, the number got high. Stay away.

Our vacation ended, and our cabin rental was used up. But we didn't want to leave Murphy so we got a room at this motel to stay an extra day. It was very affordable, very clean, bed was comfortable. It was close to the street but was not loud with traffic. For the price, we were very satisfied.

Stained sheets, no facial tissue, no clock, no hair dryer, no water cups, no breakfast. Room was hot and humid upon arrival due to A/C being off. No outlet near table for computer, so had to move table to other side of room to be near outlet.

Man in office at arrival was helpful and friendly. Room had tile floor, so no dirty carpet like so many motels. Room was clean except for stained sheets. Room was quiet except for when cars went by, as motel was right on the road. Coffee maker in room.

Overall, good country motel at a fair price.

My daughter and I came to Murphy for a one night stay to visit the casino and celebrate my 65th Birthday. Couldn’t have asked for a more comfortable stay. Our room was very very clean and our bed was super comfortable. I would recommend anyone on a limited budget to choose this motel for your trip

‘50’s to 60’s basic motel. Simple,spare room, fridge, microwave worked, mattress comfortable. No daily housekeeping, but can get clean towels on request.
Biggest drawback is proximity to the highway and attendant road noise, though given small town NC, traffic drops off after about 11pm.
