A very nice place to stay & relax. The facility is a bit old but well maintained & always clean. I love it because it’s a pet friendly resort. The room we got is the oceanfront room & it’s all worth it. The receptionist Roxy was very nice, accommodating & knowledgeable. Will definitely stay again here. Highly recommended.

The bright lighting would be the only thing I didn’t like. It took away from viewing the stars at night. Everything else was absolutely amazing and beautiful. The fireplace in each room was a romantic bonus. Also the pet friendly makes it a gem!

We had one server in the restaurant for breakfast that needs to be friendlier or even smile a little. Felt almost like we were a bother. Our server for dinner the night before was extremely helpful.

The room was clean, but dated. The curtain liners were dirty, partly due to the wood burning fireplace in the room. The doors need to be painted, but otherwise, the room was clean. The view was fabulous and the restaurant was wonderful.

Oceanfront room on lower floor in corner next to laundry was not as nice as the upper floor rooms and should be priced accordingly. Furniture continues to be old and in need of replacement as do drapes. Pillows weren’t as comfortable nor as many as we recall from times past. Room service dinner was excellent! Hearst beef cheeseburger and fries and fish and chips were delicious! Despite the disappointment in our room, we love this hotel and will continue coming.

I had a great experience at the Cavalier. I stayed for a five nights and the staff were very friendly. The room was very clean, I couldn’t even find one Hair from the previous guests. I got an ocean view which was glorious. And I very much enjoyed ordering room service. Next time I will stay for longer.

This hotel is a real gem and if you can get a room facing the ocean with a fireplace it is a bonus.

If Roxy is at the desk when you check in, you’re in luck. You’ll get the full run down of all amenities and things to see and eat nearby. If someone else checks you in, you’re on your own. Make sure you ask for any perks you are supposed to have, the dude will ignore/“forgot” all of it.

Get the ocean view rooms, the standard rooms are super musty and the carpet is old and stained and in need of replacement. Beds are clean and sheets and towels seem newer.

Half the jets in the hot tub are broken but on the plus side, they let us use it until 9:30pm instead of closing time of 9pm (which is pretty early really). Gym gets cleaned rarely and towels are not restocked. One treadmill was “broken” for two days. I unplugged it and plugged it back in and it worked.

Lobby coffee is the worse coffee I’ve had in my life. Indescribably bad.

Overall, perfectly fine place to stay to be near Hearst Castle and on the water. Not much stretch of beach until you hit cliffs on either side which makes it really quiet and peaceful.

Hope they replace the carpet in the rooms and fix some amenities.

We enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again, the only concern I had was the coffee maker in the room. When adding water in the machine, it was really dirty and was unable to drink it. I did mentioned this concern to the front desk at checkout and they apologized and said they would address this to housekeeping. All staff that I was encountered with was very friendly and welcoming.

Great location and the nicest hotel at San Simeon Beach we have stayed at. Amazing ocean front view , but if the smell of fire pit bothers you , you might want to keep your sliding door shut. Love the on site restaurant! Just an important note to keep in mind. My travel partner got a room next to the lobby which was right next to housekeeping toom so he heard workers at all hours and was hard to sleep. I think it was 102

The only good thing about this hotel is the view. The service was fine checking in. Although the view was great upon entering our room in the kings row building, that was about it for positives. The room reeked like musty smoke. The doors were filthy. We wiped them and the bathroom knobs and handles and our wipes were black when we finished cleaning. A wash cloth was dirty when I went to use it. There were strange, plastic like netted covers on the chairs, I suspect to cover gross chairs. Made us not want to sit on them! We went onto the balcony and it had stains from pets all over the place. Then when it gets dark, the staff light the fire pits outside. The smoke billowed into our room which caused my husband severe allergic reaction, with red and swollen eyes.
We will never stay here again. 3 nights for 950 bucks, is a waste of money. Additionally, guest smoking weed next door was annoying as well.

We were super delighted with our stay here. We got an ocean view and it was just fascinating. We were on the bottom floor and walked out to a patio with tables and chairs just for us facing the ocean and then there was a wonderful grassy area past that and then a walkway down to the sand and then the water. Everything was clean and neat and utterly and manicured in our room. We had a fireplace and too comfy chairs that could be turned either towards the ocean or the fireplace. And there were also fire pits outside, so we stayed out there into the evening and they brought firewood for us! There wasn’t one thing we could complain about. The refrigerator was stocked with things you could purchase from wine to candy bars. We will definitely be back.

We were not informed that none of the room have AC or a regular AC fan. We had to call the desk to find out there is no AC. All they had was portable floor fan that was extremely noisy. We could not use it and the room was hot all night.

Although the rooms may be a bit outdated, they are very clean and well equipped with everything you may need. I booked a room with a balcony and it was great. The entire property sits oceanfront which makes it an enjoyable and quiet getaway. Super dog friendly as well. Roxy at the front desk was helpful as well. I think the rooms could benefit from being floor for easier cleaning especially because of pets. The only thing is its pretty remote so if you want to eat something else other than their restaurant, food is a bit of a drive. Otherwise, great location and stay!

This place is special. Get an ocean front room with fireplace. Amazing. We watched a sea otter playing in the surf in front of our room then watched a spectacular sunset from our patio then warmed up by the fireplace. The restaurant was very good. We ate dinner and breakfast there. The staff was great, especially the very welcoming woman who checked us in and speaks multiple languages! Sorry we dont know her name but she was delightful. We weren't there long enough to use any of the other amenities but everything looked great.

First, the views from our room and the property in general are amazing! With the benches for facing the ocean and the chimnea fires also available to stay warm while enjoying the sunset, it is an ideal place to view the sun setting over the ocean. Super friendly staff to answer any questions! i usually ask lots of questions.
Breakfast is so close that you do not need a car! Also great staff there too!

Made reservations for 2 queen beds for 4 guests got a upgrade offer for a oceanfront paid extra for it but got upgraded to 1 king room for 4 people after complaining they changed us to a room with 1 king plus sofa bed and that sofa bed was the most oldest and the most uncomfortable bed ever and they said it was not their mistake it was our fault for taking an upgrade but couldn’t understand why they would send an upgrade offer for 4 guests with 1 king never I would think that could have been the case all it said upgrade your room to a oceanfront for additional fee. They did not compensate us all they did was send me back to expedia to fight with given the fact that the upgrade offer was from the hotel and not expedia. Rooms were very old very smelly the view and location was amazing cant say anything about that. Other than that it was horrible. Very disappointed paid 350$ for one night of nightmare. They also said they will setup the sofa bed and they did not we went back to front desk they said housekeeping service went home and they gave us stuff for us to open and setup ourself and that pillows and sheets and everything was dirty smelly. I can go on and on but will keep it at this.

For what we paid for a this room is was greatly over priced. Thin walls, could hear and feel neighbors when the kids jumped on the bed and bounced agents the wall. No AC which made the room stuffy. The only good thing is that it is on the ocean and could hear the waves.

This place needs a new makeover. Everything was outdated. The carpet was so dirty and filthy. When you take a shower, the drain is so slow it fills up the tub. The only nice thing is the location and the staff. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I booked a three day stay and left on the second day. 1 star
