The rooms are not large but they are clean and atmospheric. The amenities were good, we used the hot tub and ate at the bar which was more family friendly cuisine (and prices) than the restaurant. Breakfast was fantastic. The hotel staff were extremely helpful and assisted us when we had a flight cancellation.

We had dinner at the restaurant and it was delicious, I would definitely recommend the splurge!! The hot tubs were a welcome addition to the end of a busy sightseeing day. But the absolute best part of this hotel was that we had a room that looked out over the car park, doesn’t sound like a win but it had a door which I stepped out of every ten minutes when I thought the lights might be coming and then when they did we were near the room which had the door to the other side of the building so I literally ran between one side of the building and the other in about a minute and got to enjoy the best northern light show ever. We did specifically pick the hotel for the telescopes though and I am not sure if they are actually used them that frequently due to clouds

Loved the extra amenities like the hot tubs, pool table and observation tower. Such a nice bonus that they do an Aurora wake up call so you don't miss the Northern Lights. The staff was friendly. Hótel ranga seems to be incredible for the northern lights but we stayed 2 nights and didn’t see them at all due to cloud cover. I think if you don’t see the northern lights then the hotel is ok but if the clouds are there, it loses all its USPs as we didn’t even get to go to the observatory. Feels like we spent so much on this hotel and didn’t really get to enjoy it as a result of the northern lights not appearing :( hot tubs were nice, hotel could create more of a community vibe eg hosting a kareoke night or making the guests interact more in organised events. The hotel is in the middle of nowhere so you kind of want there to be more on offer to do activities wise :) snowmobiling - which we booked through hotel - was cool and don’t regret it but it was absolutely extortionate and probably wouldn’t do it again in Iceland as a result

The hotel was very nice but I made arrangements to get all the way out there with private transportation for their Christmas dinner and telescope experience that was recommended to me. I was told we didn’t need to book the dinner in advance and then when we arrived, we found out they were no longer serving it on Dec 14? It’s still Christmas season :( It was cloudy so no northern lights and you can’t go to the observatory if the astronomer is not there... also very disappointing. The breakfast and dinner were still excellent and the hotel is beautiful, but I was not able to enjoy the experiences I went out there for. it was expensive for me to get out there for a night without my own car and had I known I would have booked a different night.

This hotel was so great. The staff, bartender, restaurant all 5 stars and amazing. While the accommodations are not modern (think Viking cozy cabin feel), it is a great experience and tip top service. They have the Aurora wake up call and luckily we got to see the light show @ 4am. Don't think twice book a room here, you won't regret it. They even have a cute service where they will send 1 postcard anywhere in the world.

One word: Spectacular! This hotel is mot 5 stars it is 10stars. The property is beautiful, the rooms are spotless, front desk the best and the restaurant is exquisite. The property offers stargazing with an astronomer and I had the opportunity to learn about the Northern Lights and see Jupiter thru the telescope. This stay was perfect!!

Hotel Ranga is advertised as a luxury property It is not Luxory property It is an old and tired property that is expensive and is terrible nreed of am update. There rooms are hot and stuffy with no screens and windows that can’t be opened due to the fly and midge problem. You have to dangerously climb into a jacuzzi to shower and there are no shower curtains. Their linens are standard cheap hotel linens. I do have one compliment we had a good dinner. I wouldn’t stay expecting anything close to luxury

Stayed two nights a the Hotel Ranga and so glad that my wife and I added the extra day. The restaurant was all that we expected and more and a great place to spend a cold windy night in the South. It’s also only an hour or so from Reykjavik so well worth the drive for the high quality authentic Icelandic cuisine. Rooms are very comfortable and many have access to one of two outdoor hot tubs. Location also very convenient to main attractions.

Did not get to see the Northern Lights but the Hotel made sure everything else was perfect. From booking the perfect tours and providing the best meals in there first class restaurant, it was absolutely worth it, the staff was at a different level, they were the best. The most wonderful place we stayed on our Iceland trip. A very unique and magical hotel. The hotel is like a gigantic log cabin, impeccably maintained. The service team at the front desk was so incredibly friendly and helpful. The restaurant was quite good, although prices for food are so high in Iceland you never feel like you're getting comparable value for your money. We stayed in a family suite that was perhaps the most unique and character-full room we've ever enjoyed. This place is a gem.

This is a marvellous hotel. My wife and I spent 4 nights here, and my only regret is that the stay wasn’t longer. It is a very beautiful, restful place, ideally situated on the south coast. It is a very personally run hotel, with excellent staff and great attention to detail. The restaurant had a small selection of dishes, all of which were excellent.

This is a beautiful hotel, very cozy and clean with a modern rustic feel. Though very nice, it's still VERY pricey for what you get. But the options in this area of Iceland are pretty limited, so that's why I decided to splurge (like, really splurge) on this hotel. But it's gorgeous, loved the hot tubs outside with beautiful views. Nice breakfast included.

Lovely setting, very welcoming staff, service. Unfortunately our room faced the parking lot and light from the parking lot disturbed my sleep. Also there was something wrong with our Tv/remote and it kept going on all night even though we hand never turned it on! Staff was very accommodating and apologetic about this. Room was spacious but bathroom was very small and not very smart.
Food in restaurant was okay nothing special. Service was very good and friendly. Prices are in ISK but at check out you are shown a bill in Euros! I asked to see the bills in both currencies and noticed that we had paid full price for our happy hour drinks and we had been charged 500 Euro too much for the room. When this was finally remedied there was no apology just a “well spotted” . I thought this hotel was expensive for what it offered. We booked it in the hope of seeing the Northern lights, unfortunately it rained the whole time we were there.
Would I stay here again? Probably not as there are better alternatives in the middle of nowhere. eg. Torfhus retreat where we had spent a couple of nights earlier on in our trip.
