The staff were highly professional and attentive to making our stay enjoyable and worry free, ahead of, during our stay, and as we continued our holiday elsewhere. The combination of an idealistic location and a fitting accommodation to meet the beauty of that picturesque locale overlooking the Douro River and the Dom Luis I bridge. My wife and I loved this hotel, and the busy areas in the daytime became a quiet sanctuary with seemingly private views in the night for our February stay. The hotels style is a perfect blend of rustic aged beauty, with modern touches. Loved!

The location of this hotel is simply incredible! It is right on the river. We had a room facing the river with a wall of windows and the views are breathtaking. We also had lunch and drinks outside at their bar and loved it. The staff was also very helpful and arranged our transportation from and back to the airport.

We loved everything about our stay. The location is unbeatable, and the entire property is spotless. Our one-bedroom suite was huge, immaculate, and filled with natural light — plus it was incredibly quiet, which made it easy to relax. The bed was very comfortable, and we slept so well. Most importantly, the hotel staff couldn’t have been nicer or more helpful — they really went above and beyond to make our visit smooth and enjoyable. The breakfast buffet was another bonus. We’d stay here again in a heartbeat!

The traffic was horrible, parking was far away from the hotel so we had to drag our bags to the hotel. It was not easy to locate. Once there is was beautiful!!! The views from the hotel restaurant are fabulous.

The hotel is so lovely! It’s tucked away in an ancient little alley just off of the river (a little hard to find with GPS; just ask). The room was spacious, well-appointed, and comfortable. There was even a gorgeous skylight directly above the bed! (Think sleeping in a lighthouse) with beautiful stone walls. It’s so convenient and I’d definitely stay again. Warning: however, there is no parking and the closest garage was a bit of a haul (~1-1.5km?) so, I just backpacked it instead of fighting with my luggage. It ended up costing >50€ for overnight-4pm.

From the moment we booked, the Porto River team was incredibly kind and attentive—offering transportation and assistance with our luggage, which is greatly appreciated given the hotel’s privileged (and somewhat hard-to-reach) location right on the Douro River.

Check-in was quick and efficient, and the room… simply one of the best I’ve stayed in anywhere in the world. Overlooking the Douro, the space was impeccably maintained and beautifully modernized. It was spacious and well-designed, with a kitchenette, dining table, comfortable sofa, and four balconies offering breathtaking views. Despite being in a lively area, the reinforced windows kept most of the street noise out, allowing for restful nights.

The staff also provided excellent restaurant recommendations, adding a thoughtful personal touch to our stay. I would return to Porto River Hotel without hesitation—highly recommended for anyone visiting Porto.

It was perfect as it always is - honestly the only downside was a guy called Carlos who works in the restaurant who made me put a tip and then when I gave him a decent tip he started negotiating for a higher tip - tipping is not standard in Portugal or anywhere in Europe and I even gave him a good review on another website after he begged me to. It was a shame then for him to insist I tipped him (fine) and then start bartering with me to give him a higher tip like I’m in a bazaar in Istanbul (not fine).

I had read in some reviews that the rooms had cockroaches. Our room did. Also, because the hotel is right above several restaurants, our room being on the first floor had a very strong fishy smell. Staff were very friendly and helpful though, and the apartment had all the amenities we needed.

Booked the River View Suite which turned out to be one of the best spaces we have ever stayed in. It went from the front of the build all the way to the back, it was on the top floor with its own staircase and skylight. Great views, really clean and even though the weekend was really stormy we were cosy in the room. Staff were really friendly and welcoming. Looking for an excuse to go back!

Fabulous stay

We had an awesome stay at the Porto River Aparthotel. We had a one bedroom unit with a living/kitchen room. It was spacious for the 2 of us. The hotel is right on the riverfront. The breakfast was delicious, partly buffet and also could order eggs or pancakes. There was sparkling wine and fresh juice.


The best thing about the hotel are the staff. They went out of their way to be helpful and accommodating your every need, whether it was for dinner recommendations or reservations. The hotel owner, Manuel Almeda, is a lovely gentleman. He couldn’t speak much English but would always get someone to interpret. He was always asking if we were happy about the hotel and our stay there. They have a wonderful restaurant adjacent to the hotel and we ate a few dinners there (Chez Lapin). Delicious and plentiful as well as reasonable cost for a premium location. The owners daughter, Alexandra oversees the restaurant and helps the staff there. We had a great waiter, Andre. At the front reception Ricardo, Pedro and Ariana were always ready to help us with our questions. The hotel Manager, Andrea, really made our stay special. She made us feel like we were friends. Her motto was, “we don’t have guests, we have friends”. We really couldn’t have had a better place to stay. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone. If you do have physical limitations it would be important to advise the hotel so they could put you in a suitable room as some rooms are only accessible by stairs.

This is the perfect location for your visit to Porto! Very close to all the attractions of the city. But be advised, the street below is very energetic and alive with sounds, so our sound machine at night was helpful. The room was lively and had all that we needed, the breakfast was exceptional. Great location. Be advised I parked at the nearby SABA location suggested by hotel and it cost 63 euros for one night! The staff is friendly and helpful. Many restaurants nearby. I would stay again but make other arrangements for the car.

Excellent place in a great location. My only complaint was difficulty finding it on a rainy day. Ubers and taxis can’t access the road in front so you have to lug your luggage a block or 2 and find the entrance in the alley. This all adds to the charm once you are settled but frustrating with luggage. Absolutely worth it for the river views and neighborhood.

Overall a good hotel. We had a couple of issues. The first room had a skylight which leaked dripping on the bed. We brought it to their attention and they switched us to another room right away. I guess they forgot to enter this into their system so in the middle of the night the night manager came into our room and seeing us there went straight out. This woke us up and we were a bit startled. The next morning they called to apologize and explained the mistake and told us that the breakfast would be on the house for the entire stay. Mistakes can happen but how a company reacts to it is important. They did well.

Excellent stay at the Porto River. The only mistake we made is NOT having them organize our taxi ride from the train. We took a taxi, but he wouldn't take us down to the river and we had to walk down the hill to the hotel. The hotel had offered, but we didn't think it was a big deal to have them order the taxi but it WAS. We had them order the taxi BACK to the station and it can come down to the entrance of the hotel so you don't have to lug your luggage!!! Otherwise, everything was great. Good breakfast, great restaurant, very clean and neat and in a lively area.

Clean, comfortable hotel with amazing views.

This hotel is in a block of frontline properties that overlook the Douro river to Gaia and all the restaurants, market stalls and buskers on the riverbank below. Fabulous location and amazing views from river view rooms. Always something happening on the river so plenty to watch. All staff, without exception, were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was great with a wide selection of fresh food available. Very happy with our room choice. It was big enough for 2, bright, airy and clean. Bathroom was down a few steps into a long room with the shower at one end and window overlooking the river at the other end. Any users of the toilet during the night need to be mindful of the steps. It is always busy outside, so light sleepers beware. Air conditioning worked fine. Hotel has a nice bar area (also where breakfast is served) that spills into the outdoor overlooking the river and all the activity below. People watchers paradise! Going into Porto centre involves heading uphill from the river so be prepared for hills, steps and cobblestones and ensure comfortable footwear - that’s Porto! All in all we had a fabulous stay here and would happily recommend as best hotel in this area. Hope to return some day. Thank you Hotel Porto River.

Amazing Stay 10/10

We visited Porto River Hotel during our honeymoon and had an absolutely amazing stay. From the moment we walked in the staff was very welcoming and we stayed in a room with a River view which was well worth it. The location could not have been better with the hotel being above one of the main river walk areas with plenty of restaurants and street performers that made it fun to be staying near all of the action. It was a cozy but updated room that felt like home and we had a delicious breakfast with a beautiful view as well. The staff left a handwritten note and bottle of sparkling wine for the occasion which made it so special!

Great location, right in the heart of historic Porto. There is no parking, if you rented a car there’s a garage nearby that was about 100 euro for 2 nights. The hotel doesn’t validate parking or anything. Staff is friendly, there are many places to eat and grab a drink. Lots of sights to see very close to this hotel. Overall, good choice.

A Hard Place to Find

It was extremely difficult to find this place. Conflicting addresses, and in a very busy place that taxis could not find, nor enter because it is business district. The hotel could do a much better place of describing how to find the entrance to the hotel.

My air conditioning didn’t work in my apartment, they moved me to another room which was smaller and the ac worked there. Next day they moved me again to my original apartamento and the ac only worked during the day in the living room. At night the ac stopped working again, I didn’t even bother to let them know again since it was 11 pm. Basically didn’t sleep well for 2 nights. I wouldn’t stay here again they never resolved my issue

We liked this property very much, but it was difficult to find it. The taxi couldn't come down to drop us close to the property because of activity near the hotel by the river. It was kind of \"hidden\" next to a restaurant owned by the hotel. Other than that the place was excellent and I would recommend it.

We really enjoyed our stay! The building has a lot of charm yet the studio unit had a modern kitchen and bath. The room was quite large and right on the river with floor to ceiling doors opening up for a spectacular view. The staff were very helpful both in advance of our stay and while we were there. They have an arrangement with a quaint restaurant next door,
Chez Lapin, which we visited while awaiting our 3pm check in time. Note that is a strict time, no early check in. Would recommend highly and would stay here again.

Loved the view, being right on the promenade, watching the buskers, boats and people right from our windows. We had 3 big windows that opened and another two in the hall way. The room was bright an airy and just perfect for us. What a fantastic start to our trip !!

Location right in front the door river. The rooms are great, spacious and contemporary design. It got everything you need. Kitchenette, coffee machine, kettle , etc. Vinicius kindly gave us an upgrade. The only issue we had was the air-con. It has many issues . The second night we were sweating all night and no one could help out until 9am the next day cause there is no staff at front desk but a security overnight.

We loved our accommodations in Porto! The location was excellent and right on the river. The room was very large and clean. The staff was very helpful and kind. If you are driving, you will have to park in a garage nearby. The cost was around 30 euros per day, just so you are aware. Everything was wonderful and we would definitely stay again! Shout out to Pedro for helping us with our room key!

This was a really cute hotel with alot of character. Our room had an excellent view of the river and the rest of the city. You will hear the singers in the street throughout the day and into the evening, but we loved this. The staff were very helpful and welcoming throughout our stay.
