Wonderful stay. Z2 hotel is lovely and we had access to everything in Z1. I travel a lot and this was my favorite resort stay I’ve ever had. The staff members are WONDERFUL and I felt so lucky to get to know them. Sam, Raheema, Nora, and Abdullah are just a few of the wonderful staff members that made me feel like I was at home.

Room was excellent. We had the third floor pool view at the z2. We found the z2 to be a newer more modern building compared to the z. So even though it wasn’t direct water access, we liked staying the z2 better and using the z during the day. Amazing breakfast buffet. We loved our stay. Gym at the z was excellent also. Had lots of options. Finally location was great. Near by walking distance to all restaurants. We prefer this beach over kendwa as well if had to pick.

We stayed at Z2. Beautiful room (penthouse suite!) Complimentary water everyday. Free WIFI which was very solid. The Marigold restaurant was excellent for Indian food and the breakfast was plentiful and enjoyable. The pool was lovely and often had it on our own.

The Z hotel is a short walk from Z2 but always has plenty of sunbeds and two further restaurants.

Would absolutely stay there again.

Room was always clean and comfortable. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful, especially Aysher. Onsite restaurants, bar service and gym were all great. Front desk also arranged cabs to and from Stone Town and the airport (roughly 1-1/2 hour, $60 trip). A great spot for a beach/pool relaxing vacation. Hot water for showers was an issue, but perhaps common for the Zanzibar region?

Pros: Rooms are very clean and A/C keeps room very cool. Very good spot, close to most thing in town. Pools are really nice. Cons: Long stairs, no elevators. My “pool view balcony” overlooked an ugly rooftop of the restaurant. The restaurant staff was extremely slow, I had to get up and bring things myself after asking multiple times. Access to the beach requires walking out of the hotel and going into a long tight driveway where taxi drivers drove way too fast in and we had to squeeze ourselves between trees. The spa staff was pretty much just sitting around on the couch when we entered but they said they were too busy to take us. Although the security did a good job keeping loitering away from guests, it was very annoying sitting by or going to the beach. Shower is too small for the bathroom, needs to be either bigger or a door needs to be added, since every time we took a shower half of the bathroom floor got wet.

Pros: gym facility, free breakfast, reasonable hotel restaurants and room service. House keeping is excellent, okay wifi, decent AC unit, the beach is beautiful, but VERY BUSY AND NOISY.

Cons: the power went out maybe 5x a day, morning and night. The beach isn't private, so there will be A LOT of sellers walking up to you and unfortunately you will be harassed constantly. I made friends with one of the Masai beach boys, but that doesn't stop others from walking up to you every few minutes. The security does their best, but sometimes the beach boys even sneak into the hotel grounds at night.

This hotel had absolutely everything I could ask for! My only comment would be to make the distinction between Z and Z2 a bit clearer so travelers know exactly what they’re booking. Otherwise, everything was perfect. The staff were outstanding—friendly, professional, and always eager to help. The private beach with access to the public beach offered the best of both worlds, and the on-site restaurants were amazing with delicious menus. Breakfast was convenient and definitely worth it, though you can also order from a menu if you’d like something different. The rooms were spacious, spotless, and beautifully maintained. The entire property is truly out of this world. 10/10 highly recommend!

We stayed in the Z-Suite and it was absolutely amazing. I think it was the nicest hotel we have ever stayed at. The gym was better equipped than any hotel gym I've seen, the spa treatments were lovely and reasonably priced, and we enjoyed all 3 restaurants. It is centrally located in Nungwi and there is lots to explore in the area (note that this is about 1.5 hour drive from airport). Whoever decorated this hotel should get an award, as the attention to detail from the lamps to the artwork to the wallpaper was impeccable.

The two standouts of the Z Hotel were the friendly and gracious staff (shout out to Emiliana and Latifa), and the superb seafood restaurant Sexy Fish. I ate there twice and on both occasions the recommendations were spot on. The free breakfast buffet was also excellent.

Very cool interior design, with liberal use of tropical themed wallpaper mixed with African fabrics in common areas and guest rooms. Very nice infinity pool overlooking the beach. There are lounge chairs by the pool and on the
beach for hotel guests.

The beach itself is the classic powdered sugar sand and warm aquamarine water, though at times felt a bit congested because of the restaurant projecting out from the hotel on one side of the beach, the small boats anchored in the water, and the traffic of jet skis and horse rides in the water. It's a nice stroll along the beach, but be prepared to deal with locals hawking souvenirs and tours. I found them friendly and not overly aggressive.

If you're looking to buy souvenirs, the hotel is walking distance to a bunch of shops. There are also other restaurants within walking distance if you want to sample food other than what the hotel offers.

A Perfect Solo Getaway

I recently stayed at The Z Hotel Zanzibar as a solo female traveler, and I can’t recommend it enough! From the moment I arrived, I felt completely welcomed and at ease. The staff were incredibly polite, attentive, and genuinely warm, making my stay feel personal.

The food and drinks were delicious—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Whether it was a leisurely breakfast overlooking the ocean or a cocktail at the rooftop bar at sunset, every meal felt like an experience in itself. The variety and quality were impressive, with something to suit every craving.

The facilities were just as great. The pool area was pristine and perfect for unwinding, while the semi-private beach was just steps away, offering stunning turquoise waters and soft white sand. The hotel itself is beautifully designed, with a boutique feel that balances luxury with laid-back island vibes.

Most importantly, I felt completely safe and secure throughout my stay. The staff were attentive without being intrusive, and the overall atmosphere was relaxed yet well-managed. As a solo traveler, this made all the difference—I could fully enjoy my time without any worries.

Whether you're traveling alone, as a couple, or with friends, The Z Hotel is an absolute gem. I left feeling refreshed, grateful, and I am very much looking forward to visiting again.

We were very happy that we chose to stay here on our recent trip. The hotel is right on the beach and all the staff could not be more helpful, accommodating and welcoming. It was very nice also that the General Manager (Julie) personally welcomed us and took an interest throughout our stay in ensuring that we were happy with everything.

We were on a bed and breakfast basis which suited us perfectly, we ate both in the Hotel and local area and can recommend both.

All in all a very nice place to stay in Nungwi.

Understated touch of luxury in superb position

Went here on a friend’s recommendation and was so glad we did. A little above our normal budget but definitely worth the extra -especially in Africa where the attention to detail is not always there.
We found the staff to be a real asset - friendly and available and quick to respond.
The beds were super comfy with down pillows, the shower reliable (a big thing, honestly!) and good attention to detail.
We ate in the restaurant three is the four nights as in the one night we ventured out we were off colour the next day. The menu is varied with excellent fish, of course, and the portions are generous. I would probably take the dinner inclusive option next time.
The infinity pool is well placed to observe the beach and there are beds on a small private section of the sand. Although the whole island has many beach boys I was not really bothered by them whilst sticking to this area and they are all good humoured in any case. The well designed gardens were almost manicured and the paths etc regularly cleaned
We organised a snorkelling/lunch trip on a dhow which was a great experience for $45 for two.
We also took some dictionaries, pencils and a donation for the local school which the hotel helped us with - they were really pleased with thesaurus if you’ve got a few spare kgs in your luggage!

Just to say something \"negative\" the access road to the hotel is not in a very good condition and it doesn't make it very easy to drive in and out specially if you self-drive like we did. Other than that is a fantastic place to stay! Highly recommended!

The Z hotel is a MUST! out of all the hotels we visited in Zanzibar, this is the only one we would return to. Everything was just perfect, rooms were immaculate, attention to detail and decor was out of this world. Thank you to the GM and her team, they were wonderful, helpful and did everything to make our stay as comfortable as possible. The pool area is so relaxing and clean. The beach is great for swims, and security ensures you do not get harassed by beach boys. We will be back

This hotel was in a really nice location. Lots of bars and restaurants close by. The hotel themselves have 2 restaurants although in the SARUCHE one there werent many vegetarian options which i was disappointed about.
the facilities and cleanliness are brilliant and the staff are really friendly. The private beach is too small and unfortunately too much sea weed at the point i stayed there.
i would definitely stay again

We had a great time at The Z. The property is really good and comfortable. The pool is pretty. If there is anything to improve, is the food served at the restaurants and mainly the pizzas served at the pool area. Don’t get that! Other than that, it was really good and I believe it is the best option in Nungwi.

Amazing stay at the Z Hotel

We had the most wonderful time at the Z Hotel. After trekking Kilimanjaro and then doing a camping safari, our stay here was exactly what we needed for some rest and relaxation. The hotel itself is perfect, from the decor to the pool, the extensive and delicious breakfast buffet, the spa, and the rooftop deck for sundowners. Nungwi is a great spot to base yourself on the island, the beach is one of the best I've ever been to and it's not affected by the tides as in other spots on the island. I loved that this hotel didn't feel like a big chain, it's small and boutique and the best part about it is the staff, by far. I hope I can one day return to this idyllic spot!

Disappointing!

We booked to stay at the Z Hotel for a few days of luxury after climbing Kilimanjaro. However it was not luxury and it is hugely overpriced. To be fair, it is a nice hotel with good staff but there are a lot of things that let it down. The main disappointment on arrival is how incredibly small the rooms are. Then we discovered the bed was broken, air con kept breaking down, main ceiling light wasn't working and the toilet stopped flushing on the last day. Housekeeping would have been aware of these issues but nothing was done about them before we arrived. The only issue that we reported was the air con because it was painfully hot. Management didn't seem to care. I should say that the food was excellent in all the restaurants and by far the best in the area. So full credit to the head chef and her team.

Single Female-Felt Safe

As a single female traveler I felt very safe at this hotel. The room had a nice balcony with ocean view and decent cushioned furniture. The pool area had a good atmosphere with nice loungers and attentive bar/food service. Drink and food prices at the pool were less expensive than I expected from a resort. Everyone was very friendly. I also got a massage and they were very accommodating and the spa looked clean. No one went swimming in the ocean in front of the hotel. They no longer have a dive center on site, but have an agreement with one at the hotel next door. You can walk along the beach and go to other hotel restaurants, and there are 2 small mini-marts along the beach to stock up on water, candy, chips, simple toiletries, etc. I liked that the hotel wasn't huge but felt personal and quaint while still being a resort with a lot of amenities. The cocktail happy hour for sunset was superb. I could also view the sunset from my room. Wifi worked everywhere, from my room, the pool, breakfast restaurant, to the roof top. I'd definitely stay there again.

Hotel was great, the food at the hotel was nice, and the view from the roof was amazing! Great cocktails too. The drive from the airport was a little crazy and the road isn't paved at the end, but neither are a big deal. Once you are there, it is great. Loved eating dinner on the beach!

Perfect Holiday

This was my first time to Zanzibar. We showed up in the middle of the night due to flight delays and were greeted with a beverage and a fresh cold towel. The room was exactly as expected. We woke up to a beautiful view and the hotel is right on the beach. Simply beautiful. The infinity pool is to die for. We spent an entire day there. For my birthday, we have dinner on the beach and the staff sang to me. The food was delicious. Really loved my stay. I would go here again for sure.

Absolute heaven.

The Z Hotel is an incredible experience.
The beach is absolutely gorgeous. The infinity pool overlooking the beach is unreal. You never want to leave. We stayed in the Cottage which was hands down the most beautiful room with the most spectacular view.
The staff are beyond lovely and accommodating. I even really appreciate the restaurants offered gluten free and vegetarian options which was lovely. If you are looking at this hotel, go book now.

Fantastic place!

We spent 5 nights here on our honeymoon. We had a great time. The hotel is just next to the beach and has a great pool as well. The beach in front of the hotel is pretty nice, and still \"functions\" on very high or low tide (I noticed some other hotels were left with no beach when on high tide). The restaurants and spa were pretty good, and there were many other alternatives available just a short walk away.

Absolute perfection!

My wife and I came to the Z Hotel for our 1st wedding anniversary, and The Z Hotel was perfect! It is beautifully designed, the pool and all of the ground are just gorgeous! the staff were so kind and accommodating, and all of the restaurants served the best food. Can't think of anything wrong with this place! I highly highly recommend. Absolutely gorgeous and perfect location.

Beautiful location overlooking the sunset at the beach. Romantic retreat for all ages. A gem hidden in Zanzibar. The cuisine is exquisite with a fusion of flavors of the cultural history of Zanzibar. I can't; wait to return to the Z Hotel.

Beautiful hotel on the beach.

The room wasn't sea facing but it didn't matter at all as the hotel is on the beach. It was a lovely hotel. The staff are really helpful and friendly. The facilities are excellent. It is well run and I would recommend it!
