Great experience- unique hotel - staff was excellent for service and provided great area tourist info. The location is great- in a small town, but parking is inside the hotel boundaries. We really enjoyed the terrace with a great view of the Danube- great place to sip and watch the river boats float by. Breakfast was very good as well- made to order items along with buffet items. Although this is a more expensive hotel, it was worth it.

A beautiful castle to stay......

We enjoyed our stay very much, ,most of the staff are very accommodating, especially Peter from the restaurant and Leona from the Reception.

The Schloss is a beautiful castle built on an amazing position, of course it being an old building there are always little problems here and there, but nothing that can spoil such a special locale.

It is worth the splurge.

It is a very good hotel with history, very nice view from hotel terrace and the outdoor pool is very lovely. However, there is service improvement needed. We have had our breakfast, but the waitress didn’t inform us that there is also warm order to kitchen available. But otherwise, we loved this place, there is lot small things have been taking care very well for little traveler like our 8 years boy ...

Manager raised his voice and argued with me

We stayed here for 3 nights at the end of a 3 week 40th anniversary trip. On the last night of our trip we returned to the hotel having eaten elsewhere and asked for a table on the terrace where we might enjoy a bottle of wine. There were many other diners and we were seated at a clothed table among them. We were not offered water, napkins, or a menu. After more than 45 minutes of trying to get the attention of the sommelier or manager (Christina Thiery, son of the palace owners) while others around us were being served, we finally waved our arms to get Mr. Thiery's attention and asked for a wine menu. More than 20 minutes more passed after he brought the menu -- my husband was angry and left for our room. 20 minutes passed and I finally said Excuse me! in a louder than usual voice and got the attention of the sommelier. I explained why we were unhappy and left then went by reception to register my complaint. I met Thiery at our room and he loudly demanded to know why we left. When I told him he accused me of lying - said we had only been there 10 minutes and wanted to know WHY WE HADN'T LET ANYONE KNOW WE WERE READY TO ORDER. Mind you, our every need had been tended to throughout our stay including other nights in the dining room. Mr. Thiery raised his voice throughout our conversation then stormed off. We paid close to $2K US for this abuse & still don't know why it happened. Was it because we are Americans? Or is Mr. Thiery just in the wrong line of work? Unforgivable.

Relais and Chateau as it was supposed to be

We travel extensively around the world and when we are in Europe, we frequent stay in boutique hotel belonging to Relais and Chateaux.
Schloss Dürnstein was a superb example how it was in the past and how physical plant of the 5 star old world hotel and service should be.
Unfortunately, in the last 5-10 years most of the French and Italian 5 star properties were bought by corporations, that run it to the ground. The reason is simple: tourism is exploded and supply is smaller then demand. For this reason, a lot of properties are run down and do not cater to their guest as it was in the past.
Not in Schloss Dürnstein.
It is still privately own and they have tremendous pride in keeping it with all traditions of luxury of 5 star property.
Rooms are updated, 2 well kept pools, breakfast is superb and service is excellent.there is nothing you will ask them that they will not try to help you with.
What a breath of fresh air in such uncertain times.
My compliments to the owner Christian and his sister.
Definitely will return and spread the word.

Very nice hotel in a cute village. The staff was very friendly and professional. The breakfast was top-notch. And the hotel restaurant has a great terrace overlooking the Danube (and nice piano music when we were there).

If you stay here, make sure to hike up to the ruined castle for great views of the valley. Takes about 30 minutes to get up there.

Stunning hotel, amazing village

This hotel was truly stunning with views out our window of the Danube. The staff at Reception was warm and accommodating, making us feel comfortable and cared for. BUT the restaurant staff, though attentive, were cold and off-putting. Also we were rather disturbed on our 2nd day to realize that a floor lamp was removed from our room. When we asked about it, we received no reason as to why or when this occurred. It made us feel somewhat insecure about our safety and privacy.
The town and location made up for any negatives, though for the cost I think they could have been a bit more friendly in the restaurant, terrace and breakfast areas.

The Best Breakfast and the restaurant! You MUST go to the restaurant while you are staying in the hotel , you will love the food and the service.
We would love to stay in this hotel again and will recommend the most beautiful hotel to our friend.

Old world charm, if a little aged.

On the whole, we had a lovely stay and might even choose to visit this hotel again if we were to return to the area. The hotel could use some updates however. It's a nice, old European hotel. Very good service and staff.

2nd Visit - need we say more

Excellent hotel, fantastic location, well worth the drive from the UK, visiting France, Belgium, Germany & Austria but Schloss Durnstein was the highlight of our trip and the weather was excellent, allowing us to have dinner on the terrace, overlooking the Danube, watching the sun go down - heaven.

The room was beautiful. We especially liked the shower and toilet in the wardrobe. We were greeted with a nice letter from the family and a plate of fruit. Then we enjoyed the wellness swimming pool and sauna with its beautiful architecture. We also enjoyed the lounge with schnaps and live piano playing after a nice dinner on the hotel terrace.

Beautiful hotel in a wonderful and scenic location. The staff were all courteous and helpful. We were there 2 nights and wish we had stayed 3.
Our room was charming and the furnishings throughout the hotel created a lovely ambience. We enjoyed sitting on the terrace overlooking the Danube, as well as the hike up to the fortress ruins. Highly recommended.

Wonderful, magical hotel

We were driving from Vienna to Prague and wanted to stop at a quaint village for an overnight stay. Durnstein fit the bill perfectly, and Hotel Schloss Durnstein was an amazing choice! It's purely magical - the location, stately structure, history, and amenities all made it a wonderful choice. One of our favorite features was the indoor pool. We went in the spring, so it was rather cool outside. You wouldn't know it though, because you were transported to a Grecian seaside village once we entered the underground space. All in all, it was a wonderful stay!

True 5 star accommodations

The restaurant and staff were superb....especially Helga. A little hard for road novices to get to, but once there, I was glad I made the effort. We had a terrific view of the Danube and the picture postcard town across the river. Plenty of comfortable public space to lounge in for coffee or drinks. Private no cost parking was also a plus. Since we were without our golden retriever Molly, we enjoyed the house dog, who I nicknamed Joe.

A beautiful and romantic hotel

Visited the hotel on our honeymoon and we wished that we could stay longer. The hotel is very nice, with excellent accommodations and a great restaurant on the terrace overlooking the Daube river. It is located in the old part of the tiny village of Durnstein, which is well worth the visit. A very relaxing and romantic place.

you must see austria from Durnstein at this hotel

fabulous hotel and surroundings with great outdoor pool and a Roman type indoor pool that made me feel like a queen. The breakfast included with the room was extraordinary and we enjoyed the views, library, and private pianist in the lobby area. It was quit the effort to get their, but well worth the trip to this part of Austria and this fine hotel.

Schloss Durnstein was fine, though I didn't feel that anything apart from the building itself set it apart from anywhere else we stayed on our holiday. The service was fine and the restaurant was good, if unremarkable for the price. The room was lovely, though the carpet looked old and a bit shabby. We would have taken advantage of the pool, but the hours were so circumscribed as to make it inconvenient for those who are out doing things during the day.

The hotel seems to aim for holiday makers who get situated and then pay for salon services, arranged outings, etc. We're more independent than that and perhaps not the best fit for this place.

schöne Zimmer mit tollem Blick auf die Donau

eigener Charme als altes Schloß, in diesem Charme sind auch die Zimmer eingerichtet. Schöner Blick auf die Donau von der Terrasse aus. Frühstück ist super. Zimmer mit Klimaanlage was mir wichtig gewesen ist bei hochsommerlichen Temperaturen.
Fitnessraum ist ein Witz... Dunkel, stickig muffig....
