Staff pleasant. Room with crumbs on floor. In a state of disrepair: inside bathroom door bottom paint peeling off, plaster hole in wall. Dinner in hardfloored room with hard plastic chairs so talking echoed so that was disappointing although the meal was delicious.

Amazing stay

Stayed here at the end of an explore of Cornwall and it was the best place to stay! Tucked away in a very pretty corner of the world. All the stay were amazing super helpful and polite. Our room was spacious and comfortable with a view of the ocean and lighthouse. When we arrived we were told about a small private cove you could walk down to for a swim in the sea which was a great experience and the hotel even supplied beach towels ! The hotel has two restaurants one for fine dining and a normal one. We tried the normal restaurant and the food was really really good too! All in all amazing would stay again it’s in a lovely place

Be warey.

Be wary of breakfast charges, paid £18.00 for bowl of cereal and a slice of toast! It is not clear at all that anything you have for breakfast is £18.00. Also charged £13.75 per night for my Collie dog but absolutely no dog provisions made, not even a water bowel,. Really poor.
So back to the Polurion Hotel, better in every respect.

It was my first time here, I didn’t like my room as there was very little light in there and just seemed very dark, I didn’t pay for a view but was disappointed as there was no view at all which made the room dark and depressing. I also think that the breakfast should be included in the price. The food was very good and the breakfast was lovely. The staff were very friendly.

Great for healthy living people

This hotel does not have a pool, although it says it does on Hotels.com website
Room pleasant and well equiped with fantastic views, bed comfortable but found pillows so hard I went and bought one!
Staff were very friendly on the whole, except breakfast waiting staff, who were not very approachable. Breakfast choice was OK, although no cereals or white toast available (only muesli, fruit or yoghurt and brown granary toast)- again I went and bought my own. Fried breakfast was nice though.
Not much room for parking, so to avoid a long walk up to the village for parking, (my partner is awaiting a knee replacement so I would have had to drop him off and walk back to hotel on my own - not good at night with uneven surface to lane and little lighting) did not take car out for fear of losing parking space. Although we love the area for the quiet, we don't think we'll stay at this hotel again - mainly because of the lack of a pool, the parking and the breakfast.

Enjoyable weekend away

The Housel Bay hotel is in an amazing location with gorgeous views across the bay. Overall the staff were friendly and the beds comfortable, although there are some areas of the home that look tired. We understand that there is further refurbishment planned to address this. The food was good although the choice was limited and the main restaurant is a tasting menu only.

Amazing views but room could use some TLC

Room was clean and tidy, although carpet was rather worn, and floors very creaky.Bed was comforatable but pillows were very hard, like cardboard! Bathroom needs refurbishment (I caught my foot on a nail protruding from the carpet fitting), but clean. Hotel was nice and quiet, a great place to get away from it all - even in June! Views from the hotel and our room were amazing, and the room was a good size with plenty of storage. Breakfast was OK, but no breakfast cereal or white toast available, and the brown toast available was again, like cardboard. However, we would stay again, as we love the position of the hotel and the views, and the easy walk into Lizard village. This is more important to us than value for money.

Great Location, Amazing Hotel with poor room.

Staff 5* Location 5* Food 5*
lounges/breakfast rooms 5*
Hotel Grounds 5*....
Actual Room was disappointing, felt cheated with the extra cost for a partial Sea View... if you stand in the bath & lean out of the window - it's a great view! If the side cabinet & bedside table wasn't by that particular wall & the bed moved over then you would get a partial Sea view. Walk to the bathroom & watch your shoulder as you will hit the Tv sticking out!
You hear bed springs when you move (12st) head board makes a banging noise when you roll over.
chipboard wallpaper, rough old carpet, just really run down which is Not what the rest of the hotel is about.
Rating is 3* BUT it should be higher if the bedroom was modernized.
Thankfully You Don't Stay in Your Room Much. !

Great location, poor experience

The location was perfect, right on the coast itself and far from the madding crowd. The staff were all excellent, as was the bed and pillows

The room was small, and there was only 1 chair. The bathroom was clean, but the toilet was squeezed between the bath and radiator and it was easy to get scalded

The food was attempting to be trendy, but ended up being overpriced and bland

I asked to be upgraded from rear to front, and ended up paying extra for a room with 1 less bed, and a tiny window, through which to appreciate the view

Overall a less than pleasurable stay

Characterful romantic accommodation

A lovely setting for a romantic weekend. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was a little aged but clean and comfy. I would definitely recommend and would consider staying again.

The only thing I would say is that there is not much choice for those on a vegan and gluten-free diet, which I think is fairly easy to accommodate for these days, especially when there is a trained chef available.

Average stay (at best).

Reception staff were friendly and helpful.Room was much smaller than expected. Toilet was particularly tightly positioned between bath and wall. Room could do with a blackout blind to block out the lighthouse light shining in all night. Service was inconsistent, depending on staff. Waitress on thursday and friday was awful - she was slow, wearing a holey top and spent more time chatting than working. She brought our fried breakfast before our drinks and toast, only to take it away and bring it back cold after we had eaten the toast. In the evening, We asked for a cocktail and could hear the waitresses discussing how to make it- they clearly didnt have a clue. For £12, I expected much better - it was awful. The service was much better on Saturday - different staff who worked hard and cared.
Overall, very average at best and we would not recommend it or return.

It’s fair to say that the rooms need updating and I understand this is gradually being done. The bed was extremely comfortable and the room facilities were adequate. The staff in the main were very helpful and polite. Breakfast is excellent, with a wide range of dishes using local produce. Both restaurants provide a good choice and the food served in both is also excellent. The location and views are stunning. The only real downside was the parking provision - it’s tight and you may have to park off-site. That said, I would happily stay again.

beautiful spot- would highly recommend visit to the lizard peninsula and the hotel .
We had a beautiful view from our room and the staff were helpful and friendly. Food was excellent . hotel bedroom was pretty small considering it was the ocean view room but the bed was very comfortable . En suite was also bit tight space wise but shower was good.

As hotel is near the lighthouse we were woken a couple of times during our stay by the fog horn at 4 am .Maybe the rooms at the back of the hotel wouldnt have this issue but then you would miss out on the spectacular view.
Hotel location is great for coastal path walking and trip to kynance cove and we were lucky enough to see plenty seals at lizard point.
Loved our stay!

It was amazing, the most relaxing hotel I’ve ever stayed in!
The room and bathroom etc are in desperate need of modernization (which is made clear on the website) but other than that it was a perfect 3 nights. The parking was restricted due to visitors coming in for food (food delicious!) but they did their best to accommodate us.
Staff were lovely, very helpful and friendly.

Beautiful location, tired hotel.

The views are amazing and the terrace is a lovely place to spend breakfast. Drinks are reasonably priced and I would say the food is probably expensive for what it is, the fish is paired with accompaniments that have strong flavours and both agreed that you couldn't really taste the fish. The accommodation is a let down, as other reviews have said the hotel is tired. The floorboards are uneven, move under foot and are squeak and the walls are vey thin. We were 'lucky' to have neighbours who woke up at 6am and put the TV on which sounded as if it was in our room. It's a nice location as a base with Lizard town just down the road and Lizard point a 2km walk along the coastal path.

Lovely Cornwall Get Away

My boyfriend and I stayed here for a week and had the most wonderful stay! The staff are very friendly and helpful and the food was amazing! We especially loved our dinners at Fallowfields. We have eaten at many high end restaurants in London and it definitely matched London standards - for half the price, which was a massive bonus. The room was clean and comfortable. The decor is a bit dated but we didn't mind that too much as it was still clean. The one thing to watch out for when staying here is the fog horn from the light house, which is extremely loud. We were unaware of this so got woken up early at night from the noise. However, we went and bought some earplugs and then the rest of the week was fine. If we come back to this part of Cornwall we will definitely be staying here again (with our earplugs at the ready!).

A very special location

This Victorian hotel is located in a “to die for location” and the views are fantastic. The Hotel is need of some serious investment to bring it up to the standard that visitors expect today. The owners appear to be trying but our room 21 had a 1970’s feel about it. Small room with an even smaller bathroom. Some interaction from management and the chef would be nice, girls running the restaurant and bar are lovely. Menu’s appear to be very static and nothing changed while we were there.

Lovely stay - beautiful views, rooms very comfortable. Our room was slightly dated but we understand they are in the process of slowly refurbishing the rooms and it was still very comfortable with a good shower. Food was great especially the breakfast! Really nice downstairs space with nice snug area to sit in the evening. Only drawback was the lighthouse foghorn at night but that isn't really the hotel's fault.

Disappointed

Hotel had fantastic view of the sea, even though our room only have you a small sue view of it. Wallpaper pealing off the walls, carpet desperately needed to be replaced. Taps in the bathroom were dreadful. They were placed so far back in the sink you couldn’t even place one hand under it. To get served breakfast took at least 30 mins, far to long!!!

Strong Smell of Sick

The overall stay was okay, the hotel boasted amazing views from the on-site restaurant and our ocean view room. However, our ocean-view room was cut short as we noticed a strong smell of sick coming from our room almost straight away as we entered our room. We have the hotel the benefit of the doubt and opened the window. Over night this smell got gradually worse and the next day we told reception about this. Originally we were told there were no other rooms we could change to and that they would have a look. After a couple of hours we returned to the hotel and they said that a cleaner had spent two hours in the room but we entered the room again and the only thing that appeared to have been done was an open window and a made up bed. This was extremely disappointing, we eventually managed to change rooms but were only offered a refund of £50 due to our new room not having an ocean-view room.

Hotel with stunning view

I travel a lot around Europe including winter holidays mainly in 4* star hotels. To be honest this was my first experience in the UK hotel. If I think this hotel is slightly overpriced compare to same standard hotels elsewhere in the UK or Europe but I guess these are Cornish prices. :-) Rooms are old fashioned style but they are kept clean and very quiet. When we asked the manager told us it’s summer and we cannot turn the heating on even if it’s cold! Finally. He gave us an electric heater reluctantly.

The staff were lovely but the hotel was a little shabby and unkempt in places and the sound proofing between rooms was not good. The shower was over the bath but there were no handles for anyone with disability restrictions getting in and out easily. As a coeliac I found the menu very reduced and the fact that although they use gluten free batter for their fried options it is fried in the same oil fryer as normal batter therefore contaminating the food so should not be labelled gluten free. I completely sympathise with all the issues covid has given the hospitality industry but it still doesn’t excuse a lack of knowledge amongst the staff making and serving food to clients who May become ill through mistakes. All said I did enjoy my stay as the location is amazing but I’m not sure I would re book to stay there again .

Amazing views, needs a bit of TLC

The location of Housel Bay Hotel is incredible. Sat out on their terrace with a drink, looking over the sea and at the lighthouse is amazing. The staff are lovely. Our room needed a bit of TLC, and it felt like the team were very busy during breakfast and dinner in the Terrace restaurant. The Fallowfields restaurant is brilliant, and they have clearly spent time doing this up. The food was delicious.

Incredible location

Felt like a traditional British hotel experience. They handled the COVID19 regulations very well and didn't feel restrictive. The location is the selling point. 5mins walk to the village and beaches, plus a unique beach cove nearby. The Witchball Pub in the village is a great alternative to eating in the hotel.
The room was as you'd expect at this price point and no complaints. There is use of the garden which overlooks the sea, amazing!

Spring break

Small friendly hotel with beautiful views over the coast and many walks along the clifftops where we could see seals playing.
Delicious food
Remote but within reasonable driving distance of some main attractions - probably not a hotel for families but don't rule it out.

Relaxing Short Break

The hotel's location is the biggest attraction. The view over the bay is breath taking and this can be enjoyed from the terrace restaurant. The outdoor terrace is also a place to take most advantage of the view although during our stay the weather didn't allow this. The coastal path is accessible from the hotel and there is an easy walk into Lizard village.
The breakfast and evening meal in the Terrace restaurant were very good, fresh local produce and the staff attentive.
We had a country view room which was small but very clean with a comfortable bed. The only down side because the hotel is well over 100 years old the floors were creaky and the water pressure in the over bath shower was low. Ample amount of very hot water.

Overall we had a very enjoyable and relaxing stay. We would go again.
