Do not deal with this lodge. We originally booked 2 nights. Due to terrible circumstances in Sri Lanka, we couldn’t make it on the first night due to flooding and access to the lodge. The next day, the lodge told us again not to go there as it was still not clear and unsafe. Therefore, I requested a refund like the day before because it wasn’t our choice not to visit, but the lodge. Since this, there has been no reply to emails or refund requests to explain.
Terrible.

We enjoyed our stay in this tea estate. The nature is beautiful, good offer of tours and spa, staff always friendly and welcoming. The colonial reception is somewhat unique, definitely a great place. And the view from the room is to die for!!
With that said we found the property not up to the standards they claim to have: we had the honeymoon suite, that despite the high price tag came with a tent full of holes and poorly mended. When we checked in there was moldy food in the fridge (again, it happens but for that price it shouldn’t), and there were hair in the shower. We flagged both, they immediately sent cleaning over which removed the moldy food (but didn’t clean the fridge which was dirty) and for the shower the receptionist told us the cleaning staff didn’t find anything (we showed her the picture, so probably they didn’t even bothered to clean the shower). Again, these things shouldn’t happen in a room that goes for 300 USD a night. Restaurant and breakfast is average. Again, given the beauty of the place maybe we had higher expectations.

It's very difficult to get to the property- Infact the over driver left us 5 kms short refusing to take a'dirt road'
We had to do last 5 kms by tuk tuk
Wish either the property or Expedia had warned us
Once there service and staff were exceptionally nice and views breathtaking!

Great ambiance in the mornings

Terrain: The way up was tough especially in rough rainy weather. Be prepared for that!

Service Attitude: After my driver and I arrived after a long day, we found no one to receive us at the steps, or even as we went in, the receptionist on night duty ignored us for about 5 minutes while attending to all her other tasks and also speaking t another Caucasian, before realising that we had a booking already. To which suddenly the attitude changed, and I was offered the tea and warm towels.
Was given a room that was quite far away from the main area, really cold and tired by the time I'd arrived at the tent.

Redeeming factor: Lots of sunshine next day, breakfast was generous and colorful, and they also matched a fun naturalist Kasun to my short trekking that morning.

Rooms: Well-designed, nice touches, but cold at night even with the heater. Some insects but that's part of the whole deal. Nice tea inside the tent made it homely. Each tent is not too close to each other, that's good.

Overall for the service and location, felt it is a bit overpriced. Did not see any action at the tea plantation / gardens, maybe just not my luck :P

Such an amazing experience staying amongst the clouds. Incredible food, great facilities, and lovely staff. The spa was amazing over looking the mountains and Jesy was a fabulous masseuse. Our kids loved the cooking class. A must visit!!

Our stay at Madulkelle was wonderful - we cannot recommend it enough. The views are breathtaking, staff were incredibly friendly and went out of their way to help us with anything we needed. The rooms/lodges were like our own little paradise up in the clouds. Definitely planning another stay!

We had an incredible stay in Madulkelle! The honeymoon suite was a real treat - the whole property is so tranquil and relaxing. As other reviews have mentioned the food is not great, which is a real pity given the standard of food in Sri Lanka. There can also be some noise from the dogs at night. But these were things we knew in advance and we were happy to book for the scenery. Some changes and this place could be exceptional, but we loved our stay nonetheless.

Breathtaking

What a place. We loved every minute in the Eco-friendly Madulkelle Lodge. The drive there through the endless tea plantation was just amazing and once arrived we were warmly welcomed and rewarded with our most luxurious 'glamping' tent overlooking the spectacular Knuckles Ranges.

The hotel itself is located directly in the tea fields and the scenery is absolutely stunning especially from the infinity pool. We did take a four-hour walking tour which was absolutely amazing and highly recommended.

Our room was a permanent “tent” and very comfortable, clean and very charming. Each room has a balcony with the same stunning views across the tea plantation. The service was top class and the restaurant food was very good and excellent value.

We stayed 4 nights here and didn't want to leave. Highly recommended for nature lovers and would not hesitate to stay there again.

We loved our stay here, and didn't want to leave! We had researched in advance so had a good idea of what to expect in terms of accommodation (i.e. glamping) but it out did our expectations. The staff were so welcoming for the 3 nights we were there, especially when doing some of the activities such as the bird watching trek or cooking class which were both great. The tents are amazing, feeling very luxurious with outstanding views over the valley towards the Knuckles. The pool and gardens are very well maintained, and it feels extra special to be in amoungst the tea plantation.
FYI we got a private taxi to take us up to the lodge from Kandy, took around an hour and a half (at rush hour).
The food was really good, especially breakfast - big breakfast and dinner meant we didn't really need much for lunch.
We found our whole stay to be really amazing, and already thinking about to trying to go back!

Missed the mark

he rooms and surrounding are stunning. The lodge is let down by the disengaged staff and the imitation Western food. Dinner was $25 dollars each and more expensive than in other high end hotels we stayed at in Sri Lanka. The options were limited, the Western food was very poor and the Sri Lankan food was not made authentically. Breakfast was equally poor. The trekking is also overly expensive.

We stayed in much better hotels at the same price point.

We loved our 2 night stay here and so far it’s been the best shower we have had!
Staff are lovely and friendly.
Tents are beautiful, clean and secure.
Recommend doing a tea tour for 2 hours we had kumar and he was great.

The property is based on a location which is absolutely beautiful. We loved our stay here cuz of the amazing view. The facilities of the property is really good, however, I'd like if the road to get to the place made better.
Breakfast could have a little bit more variety.

Incredible views. Disappointing food.

The views and estate were absolutely incredible. The rooms were clean. Food was disappointing and too westernized. Also not of very high quality. The rooms were clean and spacious but bathroom area was very dark. It was also not very convenient to open the windows on a daily basis.

Beautiful surroundings and a fun experience

Fantastic location and surroundings.
It was a fun experience sleeping in a luxury tent.
The bed was comfortable but we had problems sleeping during the night because it was quite cold and very windy - the walls were shaking and it felt like the tent would blow away. Usually it might not be as windy.
The food was a bit of a disappointment. There was a fixed menu every night which wasn't more than OK. The breakfast was great however, but dinner and lunch menu have a lot to improve.
The hotel staff was sweet, even though we had some troubles communicating; we asked for an extra duvet (since it was cold at night), this took them 1,5 days to arrange.

Fantastic experience at Madulkelle!

We stayed at the Madulkelle Tea and Eco Lodge for two nights. We had a fantastic time celebrating Christmas here in this incredibly beautiful place. Pictures truly do not do it justice. The food was amazing and the facilities are just gorgeous. We loved our little ‘tent’ that was tucked away on the side of the mountain. Our only complaint the entire time was that we asked for two glasses of champagne to be sent to our room and instead we received a glass of something that was definitely not champagne (maybe it was a dessert wine?!). Otherwise every experience we had there was fantastic and we would love to go back someday!

Incredible and unique

Beautiful lodge in a stunning setting. This is great if you’re looking to escape and cut off from the outside world. The lodge is set in a breathtaking landscape which means all activities are enclosed rather than venturing out and the lodge offers some great things such as tea plantation tours, waterfall tours and the infinity pool overlooking the plantations. Food was great and a good mix. Staff made it feel like an absolute luxuary. Cannot even describe the views from the luxuary tents- mind blowing. Make sure you either get transport from the hotel or a driver you trust to get you to the lodge as it’s an hour upward climb on the side of a mountain.

Camping, roaches, bad service at 5 star prices

Terrible staff. Very rude! It does have a beautiful view but the view is not as nice as say Nuwara Eliya. The drive to the hotel is Very rough and dangerous. It is a very long ride because of the bad state of the roads. The room is very small! The pics show the tent opened so it looks bigger than it is. There was a huge cockroach on our pillow the first night. We ordered room service and the curd was rotten, we took the tray out along with the captured cockroach and the managers response was 'what do you want me to do about it?' We woke up and the tray along with the rotten curd and cockroach was still outside our room and not removed! The next night, we found 2 baby cockroaches which made us realize they had a roach problem! We didn't sleep well at all! It's really noisy, the villagers nearby listens to the radio extremely loudly at 5am, the dogs bark nonstop. The menu is set, so you cannot order a la carte. Prices are extortionate. Breakfast includes coffee and tea but they will charge you for espresso or water even tho breakfast comes with the rate. Its 5 star prices for terrible attitude, bad service and a roach problem. We are happy with all of natures insects while camping but roaches - we are not a fan. Plus side yes the view is pretty but nuwara Eliya is nicer, the drive out here and what you get is just not worth it. This is my second time in Sri Lanka.

Excellent place but canned beer!!

Stayed here to relax for a few days before travelling around the island. Got train from Colombo to Kandy then taxi to resort (45 mins). Coming back we took a tuktuk which was great for seeing everything.
This is a great location and totally relaxing. Food is excellent and they catered ad hoc but excellently for my partner who is a vegan (we found Sri Lanka in general caters brilliantly for veggies but takes a bit to get them used to no dairy or eggs). My only minor gripe is that they serve their beer from cans, it is a bit cheap bearing in mind the target market for this place and most places in Sri Lanka, even the lower end all serve in bottles, it is also at odds with some of the lengths they go to to provide an excellent service and experience.

Oasis of calm

Great place, very calming, interesting eco concept. Won't suit everyone, essentially you are staying in a (very) posh tent. An expensive one too. 1500m above sea level so amazing views. However, quite cold and wet in Nov. Perhaps we were unlucky with weather? We upgraded to the suite which gives you wifi, tv in your tent plus a little pool and bit more space. Not a great deal to do, but then you wouldn't go there for activities, its more about relaxation. Ditto facilities, food hall/ chill out area and one pool. Nothing else. We did go to the tea factory which was v interesting. Staff and food were excellent. Perhaps a slight misnomer stating location as Kandy, its nowhere near! Kandy is perhaps 1.5h away. And the journey up the hills is amongst the most uncomfortable ive experienced as the road is so bumpy, narrow and winding. A proper road should be laid. But its worth it! Definitely an experience with having and i don't regret booking. Great for a few days during honeymoon. But more than a few days here and i think i would get bored

Once in a lifetime experience

An amazing hotel. You could not beat this experience anywhere else. We hiked to the top of the local range and stood at the edge of the waterfall looking down - an absolute treat for the senses.
We went during the rainy season so the weather was lovely and cool - not sure how the tents will fare in the warmer months without AC.
I would definitely stay here again and have already recommended it to friends and family.

A long ride with a Handsome reward

Hiking, views, serenity, hospitality, uniqueness, excellent staff; I can't say enough about this place. My wife and I unfortunately only booked 1 night but we're able to extent it one more. What an amazingly unique experience if you love calm, the outdoors, and culture. Be sure to walk down into the local villages and ask the staff how to hike to \"The World's End\".

Wonderful!

Amazing hotel! The staff was great, views were stunning (we never grew tired of it!) and the room/rent was extraordinary, wonderful to wake up to the view. The staff were very attentive and helped with everything, even a hospital visit was solved in and out within 30 minutes from the request.

Breakfast was very good, ala carte menu was average.

Very bumpy road to get up there though.

Vue extraordinaire depuis le chalet bien aménagé.
Problème d’eau chaude qui n’a été résolu qu’inextremis, le soir du deuxième jour, malgré de nombreuses demandes...
A part ce désagrément, incompatible avec la qualité affichée de cet établIssement, avis positif, personnel charmant.
Une recommandation, éditer des plans des ballades à pieds à faire seuls, aux alentours.

简陋朴实，但风景极美

最值得称道的地方就是亲近自然。座落在风景优美的茶山上，客房被茶田环绕，景观自然出众。
早餐虽然简单，典型的英式早餐，但是坐在殖民地风格的餐厅里，看着优美的风景，自然觉得一切都值得，而且值得多住几天，细细品味。
与餐厅的优雅装饰相反，房间呈帐篷样，有些简陋朴实。因为雨夜入住，平生第一次遭蚂蟥咬，受了一点惊吓。于是非常仔细地检查每一角落，消灭发现的每一个小虫，这或许就是入住生态旅馆的必然代价。
最有问题的是，离Nuwara Eliya极远。网上标注只有10多公里，那是空中直线距离。实际要开30多公里的山路，要花一个多小时。所以，如果不是要多住几天特别享受茶园风光，建议不要去住。

Stor naturoplevelse og ren og pænt i teltene. Dog en del myrer i brusekabinen, men vi er jo også i et telt. Sødt men uorganiseret serveringspersonale (glemte bl.a. bestillinger flere gange). Undrede os, den dyre pris for opholdet taget i betragtning, at hynder og håndklæder udendørs var ret plettet og slidt, ligesom de udendørs ellers komfortable siddemøbler havde ulækkert betræk.

FANTASTISCH!

Als wij Madulkelle met een woord moeten omschrijven dan zou dat het zijn.
Je waant je echt in een klein paradijs in de bergen van Kandy tussen de theevelden!

Van het moment dat we aankwamen totdat we weggingen was het personeel zo gastvrij en attent, heb zelden zo`n mooi team zien werken!

Na het inchecken even tot rust komen op het terras. De lunch was net geweest maar toch konden we nog even wat eten van de kaart. In de tussentijd is waren onze backpacks naar de tent gebracht.

De omgeving, het uitzicht en de oase van rust is zo geweldig!

De 1e ochtend na het ontbijt een heerlijke spa treatment gedaan, we hadden Adams Peak nog in de benen dus dat was zeer welkom!

De keuken brigade is een professioneel team die erg afwisselend koken, elke dag een nieuw 3 gangen keuze menu voor een bedrag van maar 18 USD. De kruiden en groenten worden zelf gekweekt naast het terras, hierdoor zie je af en toe een kok langslopen om wat vers te plukken.

Het ontbijt was elke ochtend een feest, wat was dat lekker!!!

Madulkelle heeft een speciaal plekje in ons hart gekregen!!!

朝日が素晴らしい

お茶畑の中に建つバンガローでテレビもなく静かに過ごせます。
ただ、朝6時から近くのヒンドゥ教のお寺から流れて来る音楽は頂けないので部屋のリクエストをするとよい。嫌な顔1つしないで対応してくれます。
ロケーションと共にスタッフが素晴らしいです。

天空のコテージ

ニゴンボを昼過ぎに出たら渋滞の中を6時間かかって到着しました。最期の1時間は車が一台しか通れない凸凹のジェットコースターの道です。ティーファームの頂上にあるテントスタイルのコテージです。テレビも部屋の鍵もセイフティボックスもありません。山間にあるお茶畑の美しい朝日、鹿、リス、ウサギ等しかありません。今まで一番印象深い宿泊です。ここに来るためにセイロンにきました。

От Канди 2 часа езды. Это замечательное место - красивое, тихое и спокойное. Весь отель - это 20 отдельных просторных палаток, с впечатляющим видом на восходы и всем необходимым. Ещё есть спа и большой общий холл, в котором шахматы, книги и бильярдный стол. Тут же подают завтрак и по вечерам ужин из пяти блюд. Всё очень красиво и вкусно. Есть бескрайний бассейн с видом на горы. А вокруг умиротворение и тишина чайных плантаций.

Hotellet ligger fantastiskt fint, utsikten är helt unik. Hotellet är dock svårtillgängligt pga en besvärlig väg. För det priset man betalar för hotellet så hade vi även förväntat oss lite bättre service och mat. Vi bokade en vandring upp till vattenfallet i närheten tillsammans med en guide som jobbade för hotellet och som var helt fantastisk. Väldigt trevlig, lugn och kunnig. Kan verkligen rekommendera en vandring med honom.

Lovely stay in misty tea hills

Madulkele Tea and Eco Lodge is a very nice place to come and relax and enjoy magnificent views. The tent/room was very cozy and clean, and the food was some of the best we had on our Sri Lanka trip. The staff was kind and accomodating. The only drawback was our trip to knuckel hils... As nature lovers, we wanted to get to the hills as early as possible, as dawn/early morning is when you have a chance to see wildlife and the birdlife is active. Unfortunately, we felt that the staff was not being straightforward about this trip, and we ended up not getting to the knuckles until around 10 am, at which time the birdlife is quite, which is a bit dissapointing when you've traveled half-way around the world... So if this is important to you: make sure to be very clear about wanting an early start (perhaps contact the hotel well in advance) and specifically make sure you get driven by car, not tuk-tuk (the ride is supposed to take 45 minutes, but with tuk-tuk... double that!). Still, we really enjoyed Madulkele and the staff and can really recommend it! (ps. don't miss the trip to the tea plantation and factory! pss. for any nature walks: bring leech protection and salt psss. even if it says so at hotels.com, the rates do NOT include breakfast)

Horrible!!!

Le cadre est idyllique,les tentes tres confortable mais malheureusement tous ca est gâché par des prestations détestable. Personnel très antipathique.On a attendu les valises dans les chambres 3/4 d'heure.Notre chauffeur et guide ont ete refoule de l'hotel.Il ne restait plus rien dans le buffet.Et quand a la route l'acces est impraticble et extrement dangereuse et enffondre a quelques endroits.Nous deconseillons cet hôtel.
