We had the most pleasant check in experience in Iceland. Patrick was very welcoming and was able to deduce from our last name that we might have dietary restrictions. He arranged for a special dish for breakfast for us. He was able to provide interesting historical information about the city. The church in the hotel was very unique. A simple church but where one could find peace.

We didn't realize this was part of a church. This was a little weird but added to the experience. The man checking us in was very friendly and gave us some good tips. Whole place is dated but clean. No parking out front, but it's not a long walk to the back.

His is a great hotel!! Diana at the front desk and behind the bar was so nice and wonderful she made our experience just amazing. All the staff was so friendly and accommodating and the fact that it is still an active church makes it so unique. It was one of our favorite places to stay!!

The property is a converted convent; you still can attend mass every day if you’re so inclined. The rooms have a sound issue; you can hear the neighbors’ television fairly easily.

This morning there was only tepid water for the shower. Dining options are somewhat limited and very expensive.

Et hyggeligt hotel. Et kloster bygget om til hotel, men der er stadig et kapel og regelmæssige besøg af nonner og munke. Så en særlig stemning. Værelserne var fine. Grunden til, at vi kun giver 4 stjerner er, at hotellet ikke kunne matche den relativt høje pris. Man får mere kvalitet andre steder til den pris.

Amazing stay! From the time we checked in until we left, the hotel was inviting and quiet. Reception was so welcoming, and offered to make dinner reservations. Breakfast in the morning was perfect, a great selection of cold items, and even bacon and eggs for a hot dish. We were only there for one night, would have loved to stay longer!!

The view from my room could not be better! The staff was very friendly and the location is great. The room was spacious and clean. The bathroom was on the small side but seating area and view made up for it. The standard Icelandic breakfast of yogurt, cold cuts and toast was available. The staff made me a dinner reservation when I arrived.

O hotel é muitp simpático, o recepcionista nos atendeu muito bem, nos informamdo sobre Restaurantes e a Aurora Boreal. Nis sentimos acolhidos. O quarto muito bom, cafeteira de cápsula, ideal para um cafezinho ao final da tarde quando chegamos cansados dis passeios. Estacionamento gratuito em frente ao Hotel.
O que mais nos surpreendeu foi ter uma Igreja Católica no interior do Hotel, que anteriormente foi um monasterio.
Aproveitamos para rezar e agradecer pelos dias maravilhosos que passamos na Islândia.

We drove west and south Iceland in September. We stayed at 7 different hotels during the trip. Diana & Daniel from the reception of Hotel Fransiskus are the only ones replied my special requests regarding room selection. Staff are friendly. Breakfast has plenty of selections. Parking lots are below the building. You need to walk up a bit, but not difficult.

Found this quiet beautiful town when rearranging my trip and enjoyed a beautiful sunny day and walk on the cliffs nearby. Quaint and beautiful area (looks different in bad weather though). Very friendly staff. Small room with nice view. Church within hotel with some history.

We were surprise to find out that hotel Fransiskus is also a church. It is a pretty big hotel with very simple but extremely clean rooms. Breakfast was rich and provided everything we needed. The staff was attentive and helpful. Parking is available and the town is in a walking distance.
We had great dinner at Narfeyrarstofa downtown - Excellent!!

Unusual for being a hotel with its own Catholic Church. Adequate rooms overlooking harbour. Breakfast choices different to the norm - no Skyr (!) and cold baked egg but amazing selection of seeds and chicken soup on offer. Just 350m from Baldur ferry and fabulous fish and chips food cart even closer (no restaurant at hotel).

We found the hotel nice and clean. The breakfast was good and everything running low was quickly attended to. The checkin was quick and friendly. We noted arriving to our room that there was a coffee machine but no electric kettle. The staff quickly send one to our room. We certainly will recommend your hotel to anyone who wish to stay overnight in a conveniently located place at Stykkisholmur

De loin le plus mauvais hotel (et le plus cher ...) de tout notre road trip en islande: chambre minuscule, vue sur tuyau evacuation hopital a 3 m (tres bruyant, impossible d'ouvrir fenetre pour aerer/rafraichir...), salle de bain minuscule avec lave main en tant que lavabo, bouteille shampoing a meme le sol (bouteille de supermarche rempli d'eau par le precedent voyageur visiblement faute de shampooing suffisant), douchette qui fuit partout, odeur d'egout sans possibilite d'aerer, television ne fonctionnant pas (on a demande a la reception qui nous ont repondu qu'on ne savait pas l'allumer - LOL... en insistant gentiment il nous a dit monter voir "dans 15 min", mais il n'est jamais passe... petit dejeuner tres limite sans plat chaud (juste des oeufs au plat froids). Et surtout un personnel qui ne dit meme pas bonjour ni au petit dejeuner ni dans les couloirs... hallucinant... le tout dans une deco insolite tres tres catho (ca aurait pu etre sympa...) mais tres tres froid... passez votre chemin, il y a bcp mieux avec guesthouse dans le meme village ou encore a Borgames (hotel varmaland moins cher et top)...

Quaint hotel with strange character

This was a great little hotel on the hill of a small quaint adorable town. The rooms were small, but they were comfortable for 2 people. Located within walking distance to anything you'd want from the town. The hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating. This hotel is definitely a little different. It used to be a convent for nuns as it sits right next to the towns hospital. The rooms and hallways feel like it. But, it was cheaper than the Foss Hotel down the road and was comfortable enough for a 1 night stay. The breakfast in the morning was a little strange, but it did the job as there wasn't much else in town open to eat at the time. Would highly recommend if you're just stopping in town for a night! Clean and friendly and good value.

The property is a convent with all the expected charm of a convent. The televisions do not work. The room had the plumbing sound of running water over the bed for much of the night. The views were nice of the harbor but the windows were very dirty. There is no landscaping other than a parking lot shared by a retirement home. The centerpiece of the lobby is a 1970s chapel and a life sized mural of Jesus. There is a Stale smell throughout the facility. No restaurant or facility other than breakfast room. Breakfast was acceptable. We dined at the far superior nearby Foss Hotel which was within walking distance.

Charming Village Stay with a Modest Hotel

This hotel is located in a picturesque, quaint seaside village that’s perfect for a relaxing and scenic walk. Even a short stroll around town is lovely, and I recommend heading up to the lighthouse for a great view.

The front desk clerk was kind and incredibly helpful, which was a lovely welcome and set a positive tone for our stay.

The hotel itself is part of a still-functional church and has a distinct religious atmosphere, both in its appearance and scent. The rooms feel somewhat like converted hospital rooms—especially the bathroom, which is quite sterile—but everything was clean and well maintained.

Given the price, the hotel was adequate: clean and functional, if a bit plain. What really made the stay special was the charm of the surrounding village, which ended up being one of the cutest and most memorable stops on our road trip.

We stayed in a family room for 4 and it was perfect. The beds were all proper beds and this being our 4th night in Iceland, it was the most comfortable by far. The room was clean and spacious. Kettle could be requested at the front desk. Had the view of the harbour from the room and what a lovely sunset view Grear location with short walk to the harbour. Will definitely recommend this great hotel.

Stayed for the last leg of our trip. Two nights. Large room (3 beds, 1 double, 1 twin). Good size bathroom with shelf. TV in room, but per staff management was dealing with contracts. But there was a TV in lounge that got service (?). Breakfast buffet available (the buffets in Iceland always included hard boiled eggs, fruit, cheese/meat platter, veggies, pastries). This was the only buffet that did not include the Icelandic yogurt...missed it!.

My fiancé and I had a wonderful experience at this hotel. Daniel and Sam were incredibly friendly and hospitable and made our time in Stykkishólmur memorable. They both went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed, and meeting them was the highlight of our trip. As an LGBTQ couple we felt very welcome and safe. Our room had an amazing view and was very clean and comfortable (the pillows were amazing!). Breakfast each morning had rotating options and plenty to choose from, and the staff was friendly and helpful. Thanks again Daniel and Sam, we will absolutely be back next time!

Our hotel room was clean, roomy, and had just what we needed for our 2 night stay. The staff who greeted us was welcoming and friendly. The town is rather small so any hotel in the area would have sufficed. However, it is very conveniently located by the docks if you are planning to visit West Fjords as well. Our room was located next to this area which had some seating for guests to lounge in so we were able to overhear a little bit for one night but it was brief as they did not stay there for long - it posed as no issue by the time we went to sleep. This hotel also offers breakfast in the morning which was definitely a money saver! :) There is also a parking lot available for guests. It looked like it may have been full by the late hours but it seems like there was sufficient space to park close to the parking lot even if it wasn't in marked spaces.
