Fantastic stay! Unique and castle-like property. Sandy was an amazing server at the high end restaurant. I recommend the tomahawk pork chop, which can be made into a gluten free dish. Cocktails were tasty and worth the calories. I would stay again!

Staff was unbelievable and helpful however, two days I requested repair in the bathroom because only scolding hot water came out so for two days they did not fix it, they only fixed the sink so I had to shower at a friend’s house away from the hotel so for both nights I did not take a shower

I would not recommend staying here at all, in fact I am not sure who is in charge weather the DOD or a private company but since it is on the base of West Point, I can't help but blame the government.
This place is so run down and dirty it is unbelievable. It is advertised as fabulous. I cannot think who could say that. It stinks was full of bugs so old like never renovated.
The front desk staff was horrible actually just mean, upon checking in, not even because we complained.

The room and bathroom were horrid. I would not even suggest going to see West Point because there is no where to stay when visiting,and this should not be the place. If you visit stay 30 minutes away and drive there. Er were there for a sporting event so it was convenient but AWFUL.
The Patton Bar stunk so bad of mold we could not even enter. George would be ashamed!!!

Long story short, fire alarm malfunctioned 3 times and we were expected to wait outside unsheltered in the cold and rain. Macarthur restaurant staff were bad and we ended up driving to mcdonalds as it was the only thing open at 7pm on a Sunday in the area. Elevators were not operational and we had to climb 5 flights of stairs. The walls were so thin, we could hear the neighbor taking a leak and flushing the toilet throught the night, amongst other noises. Terrible experience, but I felt even worse for the bride whose wedding and wedding night were interrupted by the hotels issues. Will not be back. Longer review on Google.

Staff was awesome!!! The room we were in while very full of history in my opinion needs se attention. Bed was great! Furniture needs attention either retire it ir tidy it up, old English and tighten some screws etc. Food at the restaurant was pricey bit delicious steak!!!!!! Bruch was very good!!!! Truly did enjoy the history of the lobby!!!!!

Beautiful Hotel but poor service and communication

Beautiful hotel— clean and comfortable. Loved being on the Hudson and Westpoint. When I checked in and let them know that we might not be able to stay the second night— they told me sorry and that I would need to discuss this with hotels.com as they booked the room. I was charged for two nights after leaving unexpectedly the second day— told me to contact hotels.com as they could do nothing. Contacted Hotels.com who said they had to reach out the Thayer who then said no refund and then after I called Thayer they said no one was able to make the decision until
Monday — confused with the actions of the manager -left a message with the reservation office person and have yet to hear and it’s Monday night. Hotels.com has communicated twice with me to let me know the Thayer has yet to respond. Poor service and communication. Westpoint is amazing but Thayer is way overrated.

Our only complaint was that the restaurant on more than one occasion gave what can be termed as poor service. The evening waitress seemed preoccupied, so she got no tip. Breakfast, we carried paper cups in and they did not offer us coffee. When we complained the girl came and apologized as we were leaving.

Thayer Hotel Review

My son and I stayed here while we were on a visit at Westpoint. We were very excited as the hotel is marketed as very high end. Parts of the hotel is indeed high end but the important aspects are not. The room does not come standard with a mini fridge, which I have never seen before. It is an additional charge to have one placed in your room. The AC in the room was VERY loud and old and leaked on the rug in the room. There is also a freight train line right next to the hotel and a freight will run through ALL night long and blows its whistle each time. The restaurant service in all three restaurants in the hotel was stellar. The people working there were so kind and friendly but the food was not worth the high prices. Then, upon checkout, there was an additional $25 service charge for each night that I was not aware of as I paid in full before arriving. I would not choose to stay at the Thayer Hotel again.

The hotel is beautiful and rich in history. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Front desk staff are friendly and welcoming. However, mixed feelings with the restaurants staff. Some were friendly and others were not helpful and knowledgeable. Restaurant servers seemed to be unsure with military discounts. I was given 3 different percentages from 3 of their dining options. It clearly states on their website the percentage, but it doesn’t specify if it’s for the entire bill or per military members. That’s where the confusion lies. 2 out 3 dining options honored the military discount on the entire bill, where one server in another restaurant was not consistent. He was rude about the situation. In my opinion, management needs to review with the staff on policy so there won’t be future miscommunication.

We were lucky enough to get a last minute stay at Thayer for our trip. The staff was super helpful and friendly. They were great with recommendations for local places to play golf and dine. The room and hotel were clean. There are reviews that say there’s noise from planes and trains but we didn’t hear a thing.

I have to recognize two individuals who were great. My flight was canceled and I was not able to arrive on Friday. I spoke to the front desk manager Emily and she was extremely helpful. Could have passed me off since I had made reservations via Expedia but she didn’t. The second person was the main valet kid. I say kid because he could have not been more than 20 years old. I feel bad I cannot remember his name. Super friendly, helpful and was quick to get my car and was quick to get my car. He was running a well oiled valet machine.
