This was one of our favorite hotels on our European trip. Just what we wanted for German style and ambience. The rooms were clean, nicely decorated, well located near Neuschwanstein and the Tegelberg bahn. The breakfast was phenomenal! We also enjoyed a walk in the valley near the hotel with views of the castles. A great stay! We'll be back.

Location was amazing, hotel and staff were great. LOVED the restaurant, The food and beer were great quality. The town its self is a beautiful and very close drive to the castles. Also with the booking, you get free public transit to the castles. Castles are walkable, far walk, however. Only negative was shower pressure was a little low.

I absolutely loved my stay at this hotel. The room was gigantic and the views were stunning. We were lucky enough to be able to see both of the King Ludwig castles from our balcony - wow! Parking was very easy and there were lots of food options that were easily walkable including the wonderful restaurant inside the hotel.

This hotel is right on the main road in Schwangau. The rooms do not have air conditioning, so you need to open the windows. However, if you have a front facing room, as I did, the noise of the road is too much to get a good nights sleep. Traffic was constant up till around 11.30ish, but started back up again about 5ish.
Nice room. Lovely shower. Friendly staff. Lots to do in the vicinity. Good breakfast.

Lovely Landgasthof

5 star service! I stayed here for ease of access to the area after previously staying in Fussen. This is a very beautiful but popular area and the hotel is modern but definitely in keeping with the Bavarian style.
The staff were all very excellent and welcoming, and after a long journey the check in was quick. The room was spacious, clean and the balcony was great. The beds were also comfortable and the oversized pillows like giant marshmallows - lovely.
I didn't eat in the restaurant here but it smelled delicious, serving traditional food. As i was taking part in the marathon over the weekend, i preferred to make my own arrangements. Breakfast however was good, although everyone turned up at the same time on Monday in spite of the service running 7-10am!
Where this hotel stood out for me was the service. On the Saturday night my rental car developed a technical fault leaving me stuck and unable to get to the race on Sunday. The number on the hire car paperwork for emergencies wouldn't work on my mobile so i sought help with the concierge. He was brilliant, making the call and helped me coordinate the necessary arrangements to have the car replaced that night. On top of that, he also prepared me a breakfast for me to take to my room as the marathon race started early. Absolute first-class five star service, thank you.
(after the drama i realised you need to add the country code if you are phoning out on a mobile registered to another country). You live, you learn!

Lovely Bavarian Hotel

We booked in here for 2 nights as part of a trip south to Austria and we were glad we did. We had a room on first floor overlooking the road and with a balcony. It was a typical, well to us anyway, Bavarian style room with lots of space and a fresh and clean bathroom. View over the house across the way to the mountains but not quite seeing Neuschwanstein Castle. Only draw back being the road can get busy and noisy of an evening if you’re thinking of sitting out for a drink before dinner. However, it wasn’t noticeable at night. The staff are lovely, friendly and helpful and even though we arrived early reception sorted us out with our welcome guest pass so we could make us of it if needed. It offers free local buses service and reduced entry to the castles. Breakfast is in a lovely bright and airy room and is as much as you want of the normal continental style breakfast. Walking distance to the main castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwanstein.

Awsome place and location.

We went there to see the nearby sights and were not disappointed. Not sure about transportation as we had a car, but everything was close by. The two castles are very close, one within eye sight, with a great view out the front of the hotel. Free parking on site was convenient. The food was GREAT in the hotel restaurant. Staff was very helpful and went out of their way to take care of our special requests. Very nice neighborhood to take a walk in and take it all in.

A nice stay but too short

To stay in another hotel that was said to be very good online, we stayed in this hotel only one night. But it turned out that this one was much better than the other one. It is located very near restaurants and a supermarket. The view was gorgeous and the breakfast was very good.

We landed up very late in the night and were worried we would not be able to check in but were pleasantly surprised that there was someone to check us in , and that too hospitably ! He gave us a really helpful tip for sight seeing the next day and patiently went through the entire check in procedure.
We were delighted to reach the room to find a huge semi private terrace attached to the room , we weren't expecting this ! The room was decently sized - the mattress could do with a change. The toilet was small but comfortable. Hadn't realized when we booked there was no Air conditioning or safe or fridge however it didn't really make a difference as we got rather cold weather. All in all a very pleasant stay and Schwangau as a base to explore the Castles and Romantic Route is much better than the very tourist populated Fussen ! Do visit San Marco Giovani Pizzeria near the hotel for some great food and absolutely warm warm hospitality !

Guintessential German Hotel

The Zur Post was your perfect, quaint, German Hotel! Just what you would expect and hope for while touring Germany. The room was perfect. I loved how the bathroom was separate from the bedroom/sitting area. The sitting area was also separated by a small divider. The decor was cute and not outdated. Lots of natural light colored woods. Just lovely!

I will say though we were quite worried that we wouldn't be able to get in because we were going to check in late, and we tried to call several times without an answer. When we arrived at the hotel, the front desk had in fact closed but they did leave the key to our room at the front desk with a letter explaining check in, breakfast hours, etc.

We booked two nights here, having had a pleasant stay at the same hotel four years earlier. Reception was not open when we arrived around 6pm and our key was left on the counter. Unfortunately this meant no wifi as a ticket has to be purchased from reception. The beds were very firm and the large fluffy pillows collapsed to almost nothing when laid on. There were no extra pillows and reception could not be contacted for more. We formally checked in next morning after an uncomfortable night. We were promised extra pillows would be delivered during the day. When we returned at midday, the room had been made up but no extra pillows had been provided. Reception was closed already and could not be contacted again. We purchased our own pillows from a local store.

Budget hotel with ok amenities but far away from the castles and no direct view of them. We had a balcony that faced the castles but couldn't see them because other homes were in the way. The pillows were also terrible. Front desk staff was pleasant and accommodating.

Perfect stopover to visit Neuschwanstein

The hotel is on the main road and easy to find in this small pretty village
We were given a room with a small but adequate balcony with a direct view to Schloss Neuschwanstein 2km away
The only thing lacking was that wifi was NOT free in rooms but was for public use in the lobby on their computer
Staff were very courteous and friendly and breakfast was continental and great
Yes we would certainly recommend Hotel zur Post

Excellent small hotel near castles.

Fantastic experience. Very nice folks at hotel, classic experience. While hotel does not have elevator (and our room was on 4th floor), it was easily worth the climb. Staying with our child, our room for three was essentially a two bedroom suite with a balcony and a view over Schwangau and the castles. Breakfast was excellent and well worth the additional cost - especially compared to what we received at other hotels in Europe during a trip for 2 or 3 times the cost.

This hotel is conveniently located, close to Fussen and to Schwangau's castles. We arrived by car around 10:00PM, the hotel front door was open but reception was closed but to our surprise they left us a note and our room's key at the counter telling us to go back and see them in the morning for the actual check-in. Weird but convenient. Can you imagine arriving to a hotel and finding it all closed and having to find another place to stay for the night?

This was one of the best hotels we have stayed at. Definitely more than 3 star quality. Our family room was huge and included 1.5 bathrooms which was great. And our balcony had views of neuschwanstein and hohenschwangau castle! You can't beat that! Upon check in, we were also given discount cards that gave us free fare on the buses and discounts on the entrance fees for the castles and museums. The breakfast was pretty good too which was included in the price. We had dinner at the hotel the first night and the food was one of the best we had. I would definitely stay here again if I return to schwangau!

A typical Bavarian/Swiss hotel. Our room had a nice balcony overlooking the town, fields and mountains, but unfortunately was directly on the main road, so was quite noisy. Good food in the restaurant and an enjoyable breakfast.

Great place-except in a heat wave

This is a great B&B in Schwangau.

Positives:
The front desk was very friendly and helpful.
The family room (2BR apartment) was huge, clean and well designed! A mini fridge would be nice to have to keep water cold.
From the little balcony in our room we had the most beautiful views of the castles, the mountains. Breathtaking!
Breakfast was very good.
Plentiful free parking, walking distance to everything.

Negatives:
It was really hot when we were there so we were miserably hot and the hotel could not offer a fan. I can’t understand this- if you don’t have air conditioning you should have fans available for your guests. They are cheap-so cheap!! I would have paid for one to have a decent night of sleep. And of course even Germany will have some very hot days every year. So sweating all night, sweating when you get out of the shower, sweating at dinner, sweating at breakfast- it made what would have been a very comfortable stay not as comfortable.

There is no elevator and our room was on the 4th floor, so be prepared for hauling bags up a lot of steps, and in the heat that is no fun.

If we had been there during a cooler time this place would have been a 5-star for us- no question.

A traditional alpine hotel. Our room had a balcony which gave us a fantastic view of the mountains. The decor was slightly dated but the room was clean and comfortable. No fridge though. A superb location for visiting Neuschwanstein castle. It's car park is only a 5 minute drive away.

A very charming looking hotel with a real German feel to it. The restaurant was closed but within walking distance of excellent German Cuisine. He spoke good English and let us know he was spending time with his family, but there was no one there to answer when we needed help. My husband had business to do and needed an internet connection and I had a personal issue and we stopped by the office 3 times with no answer. The breakfast was pretty good though. Their sign did not have Landgasthof Zur Post. Just Gasthof Zur Post. We drove by 3 times before we found it.

Quiet stay in Schwangau

We had a wonderful stay at Landgasthof Zur Post! Room was wonderful - a larger shower than many European hotels - and the view from our balcony was breathtaking. Staff was very friendly, and spoke English which was good. Breakfast was standard but delicious, and the restaurant should not be missed for dinner! If taking the bus from Fussen, make sure you get off at the Schwangau Rathaus stop, and the hotel is only a couple buildings to the east. Wonderful quiet spot (if you want to avoid too many tourists) that is still close to the castles in Hohenschwangau (easy 20-30 min walk) and Tegelbergbahn (10 min walk). We will definitely be back next time in Germany!

Perfect location for visiting the castles and they give you a discount voucher when you check in. Very friendly, excellent restaurant which was filled with locals. The menu had a nice variety of local dishes. Really reasonable prices in both the restaurant and hotel. The breakfast was included and had a good selection. I was really surprised at the large size of the room for such a low price. Be aware that internet is not included.

Great Hotel Near the Castles

We booked the \"comfort\" level room and were impressed by the size, condition, and cleanliness of the room. It is only a short distance to the castles and the restaurant is fantastic. The only very minor downside is that the hotel is along a busier road, so there is a little road noise with the windows open. The traffic died down almost completely by 10pm, so unless you are early to bed, this is not a problem.

The room seemed a bit dated but clean, except stain on carpet. expected full or queen bed, but got two twin beds pushed together, but with gap between them., but bed was comfortable and sheets fresh and clean. The view out the window was beautiful, however because it was a warm night and needed to keep the window open. Very busy street with cars and trucks going buy all night. so it was a bit noisy and we woke up a few times during the night because of it. The staff was friendly and the breakfast good. We used it as a over night to go the the castle and then to Munich. For that purpose the location and price could not be better.

We only stayed one night, but enjoyed our stay in the \"Post\". Staff was initially \"Bavarian Style\" a little rough at the edges, but warmed up during our stay that overall we have to say they were helpfull and nice. The location of the hotel is very convenient and the excellent parking is a real plus when travelling by car.

great place, can recommend, would stay there again. Very good rooms, all in walking distance, cafes and lake. Short drive to Schloss Schwanenstein. Service was excellent. Try the restaurant, \"gemuetlich\"-cosy, good food, good wine, good beer, good schnapps and Christine's service was super friendly humorous and efficient. All dishes were very good. We were all (4) very please with our stay.

Good hotel in perfect location at 2 km from the castles (you can reach them with a 30 minutes walk). The reception close early in the evening (before 10 pm), but in general the service is good and the staff polite. My room was particularly silent. The only thing that I didn't like is to pay internet. It could be included in the room tariff.

The stay was pleasant - the view was amazing from the room. Should be made aware there is no elevator available. Also, the name of the hotel as noted in hotels.com is not the name on the building. We passed it several times, then stopped at a market to ask. They had no idea what 'hotel' I was referring to (I speak fluent German). Many people joined the discussion and it was finally determined which one it was. Look for \"Post\" only, not Landgasthof.

they are closed mon and Tue and my first room was on the street without blackout shades. too bright and noisy to be good. when they did come in they quickly moved us to back of hotel...much better :-) great location, easy to walk to restaurants (they have a good one right in the hotel) you can even walk to castles if you want to get in a little more excersize.

Fantastic location to see castles

Excellent location - could walk to castles and could see one from the balcony. Good restaurant downstairs (and plenty more along the main street), excellent breakfast and free printing. Room was very comfortable and we had no troubles in communicating as everyone spoke English. We also got given a free bus pass! Only small issue we had was that the WiFi we bought for 24hrs cut out before our time was up. However, overall we would recommend this hotel to anyone looking to visit the castles.

Cute and Cozy!

The hotel was clean and comfortable. The room was large and it was great to have a balcony! We also had a view of the castle from our room. The staff was friendly and helpful. Outside our room was a drink machine which was very nice to have. The restaurant was great!!! Delicious meals!

After a day of visiting the castles, the hotel is conveniently nearby.

The manager was great and gave us excellent directions to Rothenberg.

The breakfast was excellent and met our expectations.

Nice hotel close to Ludwig's castle

Traditional Bavarian style inn with bar and restaurant. Nice large room with balcony but the bathroom was small. Free parking. Food was very good and service very good. Good value for money.

Easy to find and central location

Its right on the main highway. The rooms get road noise. Dinner was delicious. So was breakfast. The walk around the neighborhood was wonderful.

Good hotel but there are better in the area

Clean, cozy room... Front desk was actually very helpful and pleasant. But the restaurant staff was slow and unpleasant... Rude actually. It is not a bad place to stay but there are better places in the town. And if your reason for this trip is to see Neuschwanstein Castle, there are closer hotels at the base of the mountain.

Castle view rooms with a balcony

Hotel staff were friendly,spoke English,explained how to see everything. Gave us maps & free bus passes. Breakfast was included & parking was free right in front of the hotel. The bus stop was a two minute walk from the hotel. The dinner was the best we have had in Europe and it was very reasonably priced.overall the best hotel experience of our trip.

Pretty Hotel

The hotel was very clean and cute. Also the service was great. I had to leave early in the morning before the restaurant open, so they delivered my breakfast to my room so I wouldn't miss it. The room was very clean and big. The bus stop was right there by the hotel so it was easy to get around from Fussen station, to the castle and etc. I easily walked to the castle and it was about 25min nice walk. The hotel is right in the Romantic road, so it's just so pretty and I will def. stay in this hotel again.

Good value, great view and close to everything

Having come from Switzerland it was nice to stay in a hotel that felt good value. Great view of the castle from the room and great location near the bike hire shop and walkable to the publice spa which is well worth a trip!

Good room, good food, good staff

We stayed at Zur Post because we wanted to visit the adjacent castles. The staff was friendly, accommodating and efficient. The room was large, clean and comfortable. The breakfast was very good and the attendant was terrific. The attached restaurant and pub were a great place to hang out in the evenings.

Quaint nice hotel

Nice quaint hotel, clean room, breakfast included in premium room rate (cost is 5 euro otherwise), free internet in lobby only, charge for room, friendly staff, parking outdside free but limited spaces, decent continental buffet breakfast, discount on tourist attractions with hotel voucher.
