This is a hard review to write. The staff here were very friendly and quite helpful but my experience here was not good at all. when i initially checked in a couple of dogs came running down the stairs. These dogs and a cat (or 2) were allowed to roam freely about the hotel. I actually found a tick on my pillow one night and another was dead underneath the sheet as well as some other little bugs in the bed ( not bed bugs). i did complain and moved rooms, sadly i then got ill and I do believe it was from food i had purchased here. I myself am very displeased and surprised as the cleaning standards seemed to be high, the hallways were mopped daily i was asked if i wanted my room cleaning daily, but i did see one of the dogs toys in the kitchen area.

The place was somewhat under construction. The public areas inside were nice. The staff was very friendly. My room was upgraded and yet still disappointing compared to the photos. I did not have a towel or soap and had a few bugs (ants I believe). The room was dated. The surrounding neighborhood is not safe at all. I could tell, plus my uber drivers said the same. Safe once inside the hotel though. The restaurant menu is good. The coffee was great. For the price I paid it was more than adequate as I could have asked for towels and soap. But although I paid in advance for 2 nights, I checked out early and left after the first night and was able to find a better area and accommodation for the same price. I was not refunded for the 2nd night, but did not ask. I would prefer not stay there again.

This is a quaint European style hotel with excellent potential. The staff is excellent and service is good. They will do all to please you. A little renovation & few additions and you have a true winner. The one downfall is the neighborhood. You feel completely safe in this hotel but I would not venture out on foot in this area, especially at night. Food is above par. I will certainly return again.

I booked 2 weeks here and it was disappointing that they put me in a room downstairs with heavy traffic noise throughout the day. It was so bad I could not even sit peacefully in my room for a few minutes. They did accommodate me to a quieter room after pointing this issue out. I ate there once and that was it because the food is terrible and overpriced for what you get. They need a new cook. Also, the woman that works the bar/counter and serves food has a really bad attitude and gives you cold looks and ignores you when you ask for something. Also, the rooms have no windows and even though there is a fan, it gets very stuffy and the fan is loud.
On the plus, the rooms are cleaned everyday, the view is nice, and some staff are also kind.

Scary neighborhood

The guesthouse is located in the worst neighborhood in all of Medellin. Driving up to the location, I saw drug users on the street and several homeless. The cab driver warned me about the area too. The staff was friendly and told me that as long as I don't walk in the area and get my can driver to wait till I entered the gate, I should be okay. Everyone I met in town told me to not to stay in that area so I moved to another hotel. The room itself is small, the shower only has cold water and The towels and sheets are really uncomfortable. There was even a leak in my ceiling in my room where water dripped. Overall, don't stay in this area!

Amazing Place for the Peso!

LOVE this hotel! I stay here EVERY time I come to Medellin. You just can't beat the value of this hotel and I have been all over Colombia. The staff are the friendliest you will meet. The quaint little bar and restaurant they have there is both delicious and affordable...and the atmosphere is very romantic. The rooms are very comfortable and spacious. This hotel is one of the best places I've stayed, anywhere. The staff is just amazing, I felt like family the entire time I was at the hotel. I stayed here for about a month while on an extended visit to Colombia. The hotel has a 24-hour restaurant, but it feels more like a family dining room. The staff frequently went out of their way to prepare meals for my taste, creating unique dishes just for me. The rooms are huge and quiet. There is even a rooftop terrace to relax and enjoy a meal or beverage. And the WiFi is great. Exceptional!!

Our room was next to the registration area and separated only by windows. Guests talking and milling around did not make for quiet nights. Two other things stood out. There was the stench of mildew, probably from mold in the bathroom tile area. The other was there was no air conditioner, although there was a strong fan in the room that created a uncomfortable draft on to the bed. Fans are not air conditioners, no matter how good. On the good side the hotel staff were pleasant and helpful and there was a kind of congeniality felt among guests. The view on the roof was thrilling. The price was also modest. Still, we found the room short when compared to its claim of being the best deal in Medellin according to Travel Advisers. The location, while close to the metro, was not ideal in terms of neighbourhoods. Overall, love the effort of the staff, including good healthy food, but would not stay there again.

This is a beautiful boutique hotel with hot showers and very friendly and helpful staff. The 24-hour restaurant has good food and drinks. It is about a 10-15 minute walk to the main tourist attractions, so it's a convenient location while still being relatively quiet. Not many restaurants nearby for dinner, but the Metro is close by, so it's easy to get to other areas. Or try the restaurant in the hotel.

Great value near the historical centre of the city

The guesthouse is located in a grittier part of the city, but as long as you don’t walk around on your own after 8pm, things are fine. Also, it is only a 5-min walk from the Prado metro station, making it very convenient to get around (and if you don’t want to walk to/from the metro station after dark, just take a taxi/Uber). If you want to be close to the touristy part of the city, Poblado, which is filled with bars/restaurants catering to Western tourists, then don’t stay here. But if you want to be close to the historical centre, this guesthouse offers great value. There’s no air-con in the rooms, but the powerful fan more than sufficed. Try to get a room that is at the back and has windows to the outside (better air circulation).

We LOVED this hostel. Hostel is not even appropriate for this beautiful hotel. Looks like a hole in the wall when you pull up - don't be put off!! Inside is an oasis. The buidling itself is modern and beautifully decorated. The rooms are very big and bathrooms also big and clean with hot water. There is a rooftop terrace with views of the city. The restaurant is open all day/night and serves amazing food! And best of all are the staff. They were so incredibly warm and helpful that they really made this the best experience possible. Oh, and all for $25 a night!!!!!!!!

An oasis of peace

The guesthouse is lovely, convenient to the botanical garden and the central sights. It is a taxi ride away from the action at Poblado. The food is great, breakfast, lunch and dinner. There is a gorgeous roof terrace but breakfast is served downstairs, although one could just bring it up there.

We chose this Centro neighborhood to be out of the EL Poblado Tourist Area, so we knew that this wasn't a neighborhood for walking at night (not a problem to take a cab here). Very near to the Metro (but not the greatest walk from Metro to hotel in the dark). Some local places to eat and plenty of cheap street food.

Other reviews said the staff was very helpful, while we found them to be very polite, they were rarely around and no-one spoke more then a couple of words of English. A little broken spanish and translation app enabled communication. If you need to speak with someone in English, this isn't your place.

The windows look into the building, so not a lot of light, if any. Bathrooms are clean and tiny. Wifi worked. 3 options for breakfast were 9,000 COP and adequate if you wake up starving. If you want good coffee, you'll need to go out.

Should I return to Medellin, I'd look for a place with a little more charm.

61Prado is a classy hostel for international and local travellers. It isn't a place that the 20-something backpackers go, which is refreshing. We met people from all over Colombia and Europe.

The foyer and dining areas are very well appointed and comfortable. Unfortunately, there isn't really any place to socialize and hangout. We generally met people when we were eating.

The staff are friendly and very helpful. The food is excellent and affordable.

The rooms are simple and comfortable.

Luke and his staff take the time to know you

How many owners interact with their guest and make sure they have everything they need? Not too many! Luke is there nearly every day and the hotel in ran efficiently. We don't speak good Spanish yet, but had no problems at all. The food was wonderful. I have a filet and eggs in the morning for less than $10 American. The location is safe and convenient to the Metro, and you can be anywhere in town for a few dollars. We'll return soon.

I love this guesthouse!

Booked about 5 days originally but loved it so much that I decided to spend Christmas here. The minute you walk thru the door you are amazed at how beautiful it is. The food is delicious and really cheap. The breakfast is awesome, my last hostel gave such a small amount of food and coffee that you felt hungrier after you ate, not the case here, they are really generous and it is so reasonable. Also just a couple blocks to the metro and centrally located! Perfect for me. Also a block from the metro toward the guesthouse, great cafe for a cheap $3.5 menu del dia, huge portions, great food.

Conveniently close to some of the tourist attractions in the center, but area is near a neighborhood that is a bit dodgy...especially at night. Definitely take a taxi after dark. Very brief but good stay.

I stayed for one night at 61Prado and was very pleased. I knew of this hotel for many years and met the owner a few times but never stayed there. The place has come a long way over the years and looks very good. The staff is excellent and made my brief stay enjoyable. My room was in the front and if you like to sleep early or wake up late, it is not the room for you due to the street noise. It did not bother me but worth mentioning. I do not want to give any more of a review since my stay was so brief but I look to stay there again in the very near future. That, for me, indicates I was happy and only foresee a good stay with them on that next visit. Thank you staff!

Lobby/restaurant were nice, food was good and service was thoughtful, but the hotel rooms poor (bad lighting, thick rubber matress/pillow covers, extremely hard beds, tiny bathroom with odd smell, fuzzy tv, intermittent wifi, an inch of water on bath floor upon arrival, no shampoo in rooms or avail from front desk, loaner hair dryer did not work), neighborhood undesirable, and accounting/check-out unprofessional. Price was okay, but still did not account for inferior experience. In short, nice staff, good food, horrible rooms, bad location.

Had a pleasant stay at the guest house, walked around the neighborhood during the day. Close walk to plaza de botero, although to get there you have to walk through streets that dont seem too safe, however everyone on the streets seemed to pay me no mind for the most part. Wouldnt suggest walking around at night, especially if you are travelling alone.

We arrived by taxi - 1 hour drive from airport! - at night. It was great that the hotel offered dinner, asimple choice of 5 dishes, but with surprising quality! The filet mignon - perhaps not a smart choice, one would argue - was so good, in fact, that I kept ordering it two nights in a row!

The neighborhood was nice, not much to do (although I went on a Mon-Wed), but the metro is really close by. I would stay here again to avoid staying in the louder, more touristy El Poblado area.

A hidden gem in a great neighborhood

Luke, the owner, speaks fluent English and was always helpful. The lobby and common areas were lovely. I much preferred this location to Poblato, which I went to check out because I read so much about it. From the description I'd expected a kitchen in my room. Instead it was an immaculate common kitchen. Having a window that looks outside is important to me, but most rooms look into the interior areas. I did get a junior suite that looked onto the street and the biggest problem was street noise. We had to either keep the windows closed while we slept, or wear ear plugs. We had wifi in the room and it was mostly reliable.

The guest house is a few blocks from the city center. I felt comfortable walking around both day and night. There are a some great street food vendors in the area and also an Exito grocery store a block or two away. I am not sure who owns the guest house as there was only a receptionist (Anna) during the day. Very helpful person! At night the place has great ambiance with the toned down lighting, candles, and most of all quiet. The rooftop is a treat for evening viewing. A cooler full of beverages is available 24 X 7 which is nice. A full kitchen for your use both day and night. Also, there is a non-stop flow of taxi cabs going by both day and night. I will stay here again.

Amazing hotel for the price!

I really enjoyed my stay at 61Prado. Same price as a private room in a hostel but feels like you are in a boutique hotel. Beds were comfortable, room very clean, great wifi, tasty affordable breakfast. The staff were great when they were around, but it doesn't have a fully staffed reception desk so it's sometimes hard to find people at night. The only real downside to this hotel is the neighborhood. It's fine during the day and it's close to a lot of tourist sights in downtown area but not so safe at night. Take a cab after dark. Other than that I really enjoyed my stay here, I will definitely be back, it's a great value for the price!!

Great 4 on-the-budget travellers, but beware

I am very pleased overall with my stay at Prado61. There were more lights than shadows on my opinion, so he are the facts: First of all GETTING THERE is a real mess. Even though they give you a precise address, the hotel is actually a house converted to an hotel with no signs what so ever... Every time we took a cab, the driver got lost because nobody knows that there is a hotel there. The hotel is right in downtown Medellin, which I discovered when I arrived, is not actually a good thing, since right know the heart of the city is located in the suburbs (El Poblado). The neighborhood is really creepy, and you go out believing you are going to be assaulted in any moment, so if you go there, drop all your jewelry when you go outside. Thankfully taxis pass right by the frontdoor of the hotel the whole day, so you don't have to go far to pick up a cab. FACILITY: I have to say I was pretty amazed with the looks of the hotel when you actually get inside. You feel like you crossed the world, and are in a beautiful european boutique hotel. At night, the lobby is lighted by candles, is a beautiful enviroment. The room had flat screen TV with cable, and the shower had hot water all the time. On the downside, there's no air conditioning on any room, so be ready to feel some heat, even thought since at nite temperature drops, is not that awful. They do give you a standing fan.

This is a very nice palce if you are more in the hostel mindset. It is in a beautiful old home. It is very clean and the rooms have private bathrooms. However since it is an old home, the noise carries. Also, there is not a receptionist or a person to guide you to places to see in the city. Many of the guests are there for several weeks and they are friendly so they can usually help. Therefore, if you are not looking for luxury but a clean place to stay, this is a great option.

Friendly family \"bed-&-breakfast\" atmosphere. Charming, helpful staff. Clean room (very spacious), private bathroom, shared kitchen and common areas. Hot water. Good water pressure. Relatively okay WiFi. Laundry service. Quiet (except in the street-front room, where daytime traffic can be noisy). Unbeatable central city location. Spectacular terrace roof views. Secure entrance in typical inner-city area (taxis a must after dark). I would recommend this hotel to anyone, except 5-star-luxury addicts. It offers all the comfort a seasoned, sensible, budgeting traveller needs with the relaxed friendliness of a family-run business.

Great little hotel near the center of Medellin

We booked for one night and ended up staying for 2. It would have been longer had we not had arranged travel plans. While the building from the outside and the surroundings are nothing special, the interior and rooms are beautifully renovated and furnished. Its a short walk to the historic center and 2 min to the metro which connects to the rest of the city. A good laundry service and nice breakfast make it an enjoyable place to stay and explore this interesting and modern city.

This is a nice hotel, actually a guest house. It's location is really good, right in the middle of the city and not to far away from the Metro, which is in walking distance. Prado 61 is a very good value in the middle of the city. The neighborhood just outside the hotel is alright, but it can be a bit sketchy around the prado metrostation close by. The hotel still keeps a bit of old charm, but has modern ammenities like cable tv and wifi. The service is top notch and there is always friendly staff around. Highly recommended

Un lugar encantador!

El hotel tiene un estilo muy agradable. Las instalaciones son muy acogedoras y cálidas. El servicio excepcional. La ubicación es muy buena, cerca de lugares turísticos.
El restaurante con muy buenas opciones, deliciosa sazón y precios muy cómodos. La atención de las señoras inigualable, siempre con una sonrisa.

Schönes Hotel

Das Hotel war schön, das Bad leider komplett verschimmelt. Die Fenster sind zum Gang und daher kein Tageslicht im Zimmer. Die Hotelangestellten sind super und sehr hilfsbereit. Das Frühstück war sehr gut und auch mit guter Auswahl. Insgesamt war der Aufenthalt gut.

Las instalaciones muy bonitas, agradable y acojedor, la zona en si algo no tan bien pero me di cuenta que hay otros Hoteles mucho mal ubicados.
Si lo recommiendo!
