Just perfect

I booked to stay for 5 days at the Hotel Kapil. My room was simply stunning. No other way to put it. The bed was so comfortable and warm, the room and the bathroom were spotless.
The view from my window was epic; an endless vista over the valley and far off mountains.
The staff go out of their way to welcome you and make sure your every comfort is attended to.
Room service food was delicious and served with a smile.
Plenty of hot water available throughout my stay. Tea and coffee making facilities included in the room.
This hotel was quite possibly the best place I stayed in during my entire 3 month tour of India.
Thank you to all the team and Namaste 🙏

Excellent staff, very comfortable bed with good views. There is no parking and the hotel is situated at a bottom of a hill and it’s a 20 minute hard walk to Main Street. That said, it was good exercise. But it is a good hotel apart from location.

Great location, courteous staff!

Located at just 10min walk from the Lakkar Bazaar and 15min from the Ridge and Mall road , the hotel was away from the hustle of the Mall road and at the same time just a walk away from it. The staff was very polite and courteous. The room offered a great view of the valley. Hotel has great facilities.

This hotel is a little away from the hustle and bustle of the centre of town but is all the better for that. It was welcoming and comfortable. We booked a superior room with mountain view which was well worth it.The room rates are very reasonable. The room was very comfortable, clean and the shower was great, powerful hot and clean. Staff were pleasant and attentive and in house food was good, portions large so don’t over order! . I would highly recommend this hotel, it is a quality hotel at a very reasonable price. Would be happy if all hotels in India met this standard!

Five minutes walk from Mall Road. Met at the railway station by a (pre-ordered) taxi, so no problem finding the hotel on arrival in Shimla ;-). Breakfast (chola bhatura) just like home-cooked (delivered by room service, since no dining room) - room service rapid, friendly, efficient. Solar-heated hot water ran out in my room, my friend next door had plenty :-(, so 4 not 5 stars. I've paid 5x as much for a worse experience!

Could be the best but...

The view and the service excellent but the wifi is so bad it should not be advertised as having it at all. The really bad Wifi mad it impossible to continue making travel plans or even emailing - it cut out so often.
Hotel Kapil could be one of the best hotels in Shimla just fix your wifi.

This was a peculiar hotel as they didn’t provide heaters for their rooms and wanted to charge extra despite the temperature being so low due to the cold climate. Another issue was hot water, we had to keep the water running for 15-30 min just to properly wash our hands without getting frostbite. The TV service didn’t work either, despite the cable technician coming and trying to fix the service, it was of no avail.

Stay away from the WiFi, they give you a new password 3 times a day which is annoying and you also have a limit of 3 devices per room. Not only that, I watched a 10 minute YouTube video and I was notified that my data limit had been reached and I had to wait for the next morning for it to reset. They’re acting as if we’re going to free load off of their “out of their world” internet with 1.0 mbps download and 0.1 mbps upload. Terrorists in caves have better internet than this.

To top it off, room 104 is haunted, we actually left a night early because you would experience supernatural events like doors opening by themselves where there isn’t any wind draft with the windows all closed.

Last but if not the least of this hotel’s problems, they’re cheapskates, we asked for a banana for breakfast and they declined us stating we must spend at least $10 for their fruit platter.

Paying for two rooms totaling $600 for 3 nights, this is worst experience I have ever had. The staff is polite, but that’s probably because they know they’re robbing you blindly.

Great Place

A great hotel. While not very close to the central area, it is still within walking distance. Hotel also provides free car service to up the road and walk back is a breeze as its downhill. Room was not very big but was clean and comfortable. Overall a great stay in shimla. Itel staff were very friendly and accommodating and we LOVED the chicken curry.

Lovely cup of tea on arrival. Tea and coffee in room. Staff extremely helpful. Room a little dated but more than made up by amenities. Lovely food in room dining. Complimentary lift up the first hill to the Ridge (without this the walk up would have been too much for us as everything is on a hill in Shimla). Hairdryer (near mirror - how many times is it not!!!!). Taxi driver who took us on trip to Mt Hatu excellent driver. A must do trip for around 3000 rupees. All in all an excellent experience.

Pros: extremely friendly staff always eager to assist us; delicious room service food, well priced broad menu; free ride to Lakkar Bazaar; great location, only 10 mins walk to Mall Rd for shopping and sightseeing. Very clean room with a kingsize bed.
Cons: no restaurant, so we had to eat in our room on the bed (we didn't mind but others might); firm bed (too hard for me but fine for my partner); small room.

Would we stay there again? Absolutely! We loved the little extras provided by the staff... a flower on the dinner tray; shampoo, toothpaste and emergency kit provided in the bathroom; free transport to the bazaar; umbrella when raining.

We stayed there for our honeymoon in December.I am writing the review for the hotel under the various areas.
1. Location: The Hotel is located a few steps below Mall Road(Lakkar Bazaar), means you can reach mall road in around 10 minutes from this hotel on foot.It is located near Radisson Hotel (for those who go there first time, Radisson is the landmark to reach the hotel).Proper parking is available for Cars,etc.
2. Rooms: We stayed in Super Deluxe Room. The room was very good, all facilities of hot water etc were available. Electric Kettle was provided to us for making Tea/Coffee 24*7 whenever we wanted. Haridryer was also provided in bathroom. Overall we were very happy with the room and the ambience. The view from the room was awesome.Electric Blanket was there although we wanted a room heater to heat the room but it was not available.
3. Food: The food was good and economical. The items on the menu were the usual ones but the quatity was more than sufficient in the order.
4. Service: The room service was also very good and quick. The reception persons were very soft spoken and responded to all our queries very quickly.

Overall we will highly recommend this hotel to anyone who visits Shimla.

Best hotel in Shimla - fantastic view

We loved this hotel. There aren't many rooms, but be absolutely sure to pay a little extra and get a \"Super Deluxe\" room, like we did. The view is absolutely spectacular. I believe the cheaper rooms don't have a view. The difference in price is very little.

Our room was (by our standards) huge, beautifully decorated, and the most amazing picture window. Like most hotels in Shimla, this is not in the centre of town, but the quality was obviously much higher and views far more spectacular.

The in-room food offered was reasonably priced, however it was the BEST food we had anywhere during our month of travelling in India.

The gentleman who attended our room was brilliant and always cheery. We happily gave him a tip (which is quite unusual for us).

I stayed in this Hotel in the last week of Mar'15 and it was really good in terms of cleanliness. Nano car facility (one way) will be provided from the Hotel, till half way the Mall. You need to walk for some distance (approx 1.5km) to reach the Mall that will be difficult for some people other than that this hotel is really good.

The place to stay in Shimla with rare road access

Lovely decor, warm bed on a cold night. DELICIOUS meals from hotel kitchen, though no restaurant it didn't matter. Lovely service though a bit forgetful but as soon you ask...it's there. Laundry service quick and good. Nice quiet and here's the real winner - deluxe valley facing room has just a stunning view you must wake up to while in Shimla, the old English building now the Radisson in the foreground. Loved it loved it. No negatives except maybe a heater if you're there in Winter but electric blanket is lovely and does the trick.

Worth staying here despite not being in the centre of town. Take a taxi when you arrive at the train station and then once you have your bearings you can walk into town. And there is a complimentary taxi if you don't want to walk up hill. Cosy and comfortable room with welcoming cup of tea and biscuits in the room shortly after we arrived. No restaurant so easy room service and good selection. Very good driver who works for the hotel who drove us to Dharamsala the next day.

Great Hotel in a Great Location

Hotel Kapil is the perfect place to base yourself when in Shimla. Adequately-sized rooms with all the required facilities and features make you feel right at home - including complimentary Wi-Fi. My room also faced out towards the east, giving incredible views of the valley below Hotel Kapil is within walking distance of the city centre, including The Mall and The Ridge, but the hotel also provide a free taxi service to Lakkar Bazaar.

the hotel is fine although quite a long step downhill from the main ridge in shimla. It doesnt have a cafe or restaurant, though will do in-room meals, but just 50 m downhill next door is the radisson which has a great cafe with great views, so eat there.

Not a Hotel but just a small guest house .

We reached the Hotel on the 2nd Oct evening . The look of the Hotel from outside was disappointing but we still had some hopes from the Deluxe Suite we had booked . There was no place like a proper lobby in the Hotel and when we were taken to the Suite ,it was so small . The name was Suite but the room was below the ordinary level ,the bathroom was Horrible . We suddenly realised that we had made a mistake booking this on Expedia . The impression of the Hotel on the Expedia site is good but actually they are cheats . We just wanted to relax and ordered for a cup of tea and biscuits ,and the biscuits were soggy and smelly . We moved out of the Hotel looking for other places ,but all was booked and were trapped in this Hotel for 4 nights and the only solution was that we used to be out for the entire day and used to come only to sleep . Never use this property .

Really friendly small hotel with helpful staff and a good position for the centre of Shimla. Don't be put off by the in room dinning, all the food is cooked in the hotel and is served promptly and is of a high quality at reasonable prices. Everything cleared away once you have finished by efficient room service. The view from my room was as good as any from the centre of Shimla itself. Hotel has its own car/taxi which is reasonably priced. Hotel prices in Shimla can be quite high at peak times and this hotel offered great service at very reasonable rates. Highly recommended.

Good cozy hotel close to the mall road

Booked it online . Was close to the mall road, around 10-15 mins walk. They would give you a free drop for 1/4th the distance. coming the facilities, I stayed in the penthouse room. It had a small balcony with a view, a tiny living room and a tiny bed room. The bathroom was clean and had many modern amenities like hair dryer, shower etc. They provide a chart of nearby places to visit. they even lent their umbrella when it started raining. Provided free wifi . Looks like they made optimal use of the limited space that they had.

Dont let ur taxi drop u at the lift (which takes u to the top of the ridge). You have to walk a fair distance to reach this hotel with ur luggage.

Overall, i would say i had a good time at the hotel. Good staff, good rooms and good view from the room. You have climb a bit to reach the mall area though. However the hotel does provide one way complimentary transfer slightly up the hill so your climb becomes a bit easier. Overall, a good place to stay.

I have stayed there for 10 days,,, Nice stay and i loke the location as it is in the pleasant place but not far from the main attractions. they drop you near mall road with their car for free. DO NOT ORDER FOOD THERE. first day non-veg lunch was awful. Book super deluxe suit. I booked it and it was best room in hotel and i was very impressed. 24x7 hot water and bathroom was better then my expectations. TIP:- always take aways food from sher-e-punjab on mall road near woodland showroom. It's cheaper and best food (If you are meat lover like me). Highly recommend

From 28th.Feb.to 2nd.March -2014 visited with my friends,on liking the location,cleanliness, food quality and the tariff, i repeated my visit with my spouse along with another couple from 31st.March to 2nd.April -2014, our check-in was fast, staff was helpful and always smiling and the other couple Mr.Amarlal Arora from Sahranpur (UP) was upgraded from Deluxe to Penthouse Room for night on FOC basis, small 2* property with 15 Rooms and walk-able distance to Mall Road.

Fantastic Service, Good Rooms & Great Service

The hotel is located at a convenient position to reach from Simla station, the staff is very courteous, the rooms are very well maintained and clean, the amenities are comparable with a 3-star hotel. The food was also very good. Only the room was a bit too small as compared to what a Deluxe Room should be in size. Overall it was a very good experience.

Hotel needs to change its definition of room categories. Like for example: Super Deluxe room isn't really what super deluxe room should be. It's a very small room smaller than the rooms of most budget hotels.The only decent room sizes are of the suites.
The only plus point is its proximity to the mall road.

Lovely budget hotel in great location.

Booked penthouse suite for 4 nights. It was very cosy with heater and electric blanket (essential in February). No restaurant but food can be ordered in room, which is a great option after a very busy day sightseeing. Staff were are pleasant and friendly.

friendly, clean and good location in Shimla. Very helpful staff with courtesy lift to within 5 minutes walk of town centre. No heating in bedroom, but electric blanket very welcome! Comprehensive room service offered.

Fantastic stay

The room and the toilet were both very clean. Room service was very good. The amenities provided by the hotel and the location was also very nice. The only problem we noticed that there was no attached restaurant to sit and eat. But apart from that we wish to rate this hotel excellent.
