We used his facilty in 1976 when it was owned and operated by the local indigenous people. It excelled in all ways. We really enjoyed the pride they held of this hotel, including the indigenous artwork and culture displayed throughout the building.
We were disappointed this time on so many level. The smell of cleaning products, broken or warn fixtures. Poor repairs of plumbing. Paper cups supplied with the coffee machine. Room located at near the rear door in an area of maintenence rooms and staff. No artwork in hallway or room. Amateur installation of TV with 4 pieces of modem and other electrical boxes on display infront of the TV.
Restaurant staff & front counter staff reaking of cigarette smoke. The same staff hanging around outside the front entry and smoking. Not an inviting greeting in todays world. The smoking staff where on full display through the large restaurent windows that run the full length of the entry into the main entrance of the hotel.
My wife and I arrived tired from a long three days of driving. We looked forward to a simple supper and sleep in a place we knew of many years ago.
We just wanted a good bowl of soup and sum sleep. She ordered the seafood soup and I ordered the beef stew. Having lived in Alberta all of my 79 years I had a good appreciation of the taste of good beef dishes. The meat??? The meat?? was finely ground, unrecognizable??? No taste of beef. Vegys over cooked.
$200 for this experience. NOT WORTH $80.00.

Check in was quick and efficient, our banquet was fantastic including a great meal and my room was clean and the bed was comfortable.
In the bathtub area there needs to be repairs done...new drain plug, new caulking and new paint as it was peeling.

The staff were very friendly and accommodating -- at the front desk, in the hallways and in the restaurant. We were given an upgrade from a queen to a king size bed which was totally awesome! The cleanliness was noticeable. Wonderful, overall. The breakfast was nice, but it would have been nice to have bacon or sausage.

The hotel staff was friendly. Check in was really quick and easy. The breakfast was a hot breakfast with eggs bacon and hash browns. The room was clean but outdated. Some rooms have been renovated and some haven’t. If you are looking to save some money this hotel is a great choice!

Should have known to steer clear of the place when I phoned the hotel directly to make a reservation. Price was even higher than through Expedia, and the lady argued it couldn’t be.. then told me to just book it on Expedia! Price was 20% off regular price. Anyways, the room itself was a very long confusing walk to the far end of the world. Small, probably has looked the same since it was built, the pictures were not a very accurate depiction of the room we got. The bathroom wasn’t big enough to change your mind in. As for the free buffet breakfast, it was probably the best part of our stay and still wasn’t great. I won’t be staying there again, won’t recommend it either.

Pauline was great to deal with and the only reason that we didn't give them a 1 rating. She was punctual, extremely friendly and very helpful. Later in the evening when there was an issue with the water in our room we called the front desk ( Water was coming in VERY yellow ) . They said someone would come look at it. Two hours went by and no one came to check on it. I went to the front desk to ask if the issue had been looked into in the plumbing. He said someone came to the room and fixed the issue. I was in the room the entire two hours. No one came at all so he lied about that. They then switched us rooms which a staff member mentioned that it really didn't matter that they switched our room to another on the same wing because all the plumbings connected. Needless to say I was not happy that I was unable to shower/ brush my teeth etc due to fear of contaminated water in that room.

The evening front desk clerk was very helpful as was the lady in the breakfast area. The room was clean and comfortable but there is a lingering smell of smoke in the room. Probably cleaning the carpets and curtains would eliminate this.

The hotel is a little dated, but clean. The best thing about it is the amazing hot buffet breakfast and the price. Also, Telus satellite TV. Highly recommend!

I go for a week every month for work and wouldn't book anywhere else in Slave Lake.

Weekend Away.

The room was very clean, but a little worn. The chaulking around the tiling in the bathroom was torn and very old, and the shower curtain rod wouldn't stay in place. The air conditioning unit is one of the old window models and didn't work well. It was a very quiet hotel and the bed was comfortable and the room spacious.

Hotel was ok, food was good, just had some younger people at night in and out of the back of the hotel carrying T.V's back and forth from the hotel to Mc donalds parking lot. not sure if they were selling them or something wasn't about to find out. And the smell of weed in the hallway from the same young people.

Almost got charged twice

At checkout, the front desk clerk would not let me leave and tried to charge me again when Expedia had already charged my credit card. I then had to call Expedia (again) who had to call the hotel. I was in a hurry. The whole process took a half hour out of my travel time!

Great stay. The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. We were expecting a buffet breakfast after reading the reviews, but we were able to get a regular breakfast at no charge, which was fine. The price was excellent. We will definitely be staying here again when we are passing through Slave Lake again!

A fine hotel in a comparatively remote location

We were members of a group comprised of interested parties, Alberta Parks volunteers, from many locations, who were being directed and informed by Parks personnel. We had a very full program.
Each day had an early start and a fine breakfast (which makes for a good start).
