The staff (especially Ibrahim in the main restaurant) were so attentive to not just us, but everyone! Ibrahim ensured we had a fantastic dining experience and even was great at entertaining our daughter. The sun villa was standard and very dated, so we decided to upgrade to beach pool villa. We just wish we had done it sooner as it was gorgeous! The only downside is that the hotel isn't really designed for babies: the cot we had was quite dangerous as our daughter bumped her head on the wood sticling out inside it, then the replacement we had the mattress didn't fit the cot properly as it was too small which is a suffocation hazard, and there were only 3 baby bike seats on the whole island so we could only use the bikes on the last day which was a shame. Would definitely return but only when our daughter is older 😊

The room needed to be updated but was very clean and efficient. The island is terrific with more great beaches than most islands. The Manta Rays swimming around the Italian restaurant was fantastic. We were pleased with the food and drinks on the All-inclusive Plan. The resort lived up to all our expectations and more. The snorkelling here was not up to our previous Maldives resorts but the beaches were better. The staff was also terrific, every single one.

The staff really made it perfect. Mannan the buggy driver was excellent. Showed us around the whole island, recommended things to see and do! Went above and beyond. My husband developed a headache and Mannan went out of his way to bring us paracetamol to our room, perfect service!

Villa Park Sun Island was a refreshing experience. My husband and I had a lovely honeymoon with various experiences offered. There were water activities, spa services, and activities such as badminton, paddle ball, table tennis, billiards, etc. We were full board so breakfast, lunch, and dinner were included at certain times. Employees were extremely friendly and accommodating. Some suggestions I would recommend are adding bells to the bikes they offer to rent. It becomes difficult to navigate on the path when people, carts, and other bikes are all sharing the road. I would also suggest illuminating the signs with the room numbers. At night, the island is peaceful and lite with dim lights, however, it becomes hard to find the rooms without a flashlight. Another suggestion would be telling your room number at the dining hall so no confusions happen. The day of checkout my husband and I did not know lunch wasn't included. Although the staff was very friendly to remove any charge, we should have been informed at check in that it would not be included. We were only told a checkout time and what time to be at the jetty to leave via boat. Also, the food became a little repetitive after the first few days. Overall, great trip! 4/5

A fantastic intro to the Maldives. The resort took care of everything for our transfers which would have been daunting overwise but they met you at the arrivals area and made sure it was smooth on to the smaller plane - minibus - boat and on return as well.
The staff were very attentive and professional, always checking if we were ok but not in a pressured way. The rooms were cleaned to a great standard and any requests for the minibar were dealt with swiftly. Staff remembered our drinks orders for breakfast and dinner which was a nice touch.
The snorkelling around the Island was amazing, we saw a turtle, manta rays, many sharks, stingrays and 1000's of fish. The land wildlife was interesting as well, we saw fruit bats and a Indian Flying Fox!
The facilities (watersports, gym, sports) were staffed well and great condition.
There was always something going on in the evening (may have been due to the Xmas period) from karaoke, live band, violinist, saxophone, singers and an epic Xmas Eve party with proper outdoor festival staging, lighting and music rig.
The food was fantastic, so many options and they were happy to make something if you wanted something different. The chef was going to make a special curry for us but due to other restaurant bookings we missed out.
We had a meal at the Italian restaurant overlooking the water were the Manta Rays were, the food was exceptional. We also tried the Tepenyaki place on the beach, again, great food and service.

The problem is that the restaurant where all the others have access have a bad quality. We asked for an upgrade to this restaurant after trying it for the first time and we were allowed free upgrade. The thing is our room was more expensive than water Villa so it didn't make much sense that we didn't have access to this restaurant.

The activities were amazing, water sports, tours e.g. whale shark and snorkelling and diving centre. The sports - squash, tennis, badmington etc, jacuzzi and cold water pool and the spa..........the facitilies are world class and our room was spectaucluar - our own pool and beach access - thank you. The buffet was great with a good choice and we enjoyed a sunset drink each evening on the beach or the pier.

The resort was beautiful and big. The view of the ocean and the walking paths were very pleasant. The staff were extremely professional, accommodating, and friendly from check-in to check-out. We got the meal plan included which the buffet was fanastic. You could get a lot of items cooked to order. Highly recommend going to southern star restaurant...where the hosts, cooks, and waitstaff are phenomenal! They clean the room twice a day so cleanliness was exceptional. Everyone working in the boating department were great especially our captian, Bruno! The outdoor spa is gorgeous! The shark and manta feeding done daily is a great experience. Highly recommend this resort!

The restaurant for the water bungalows provided a phenomenal service. From the time you enter and until you leave they made sure everything was great! This is a great resort to stay. The Resort is extraordinary, beautiful, nice landscape, beaches, clean rooms and excellent staff, free sport possibilities, nice food. A really big choice of everything was available. I missed nothing. Most important the staff, Elias our cleaning service, cleaned our room 3 times a day, was so friendly and the room was always in perfect condition. Mahesh our table service was really friendly and asking for everything we needed, he always had a chat with us and was the best service I can imagine. Hussein the waiter at the coffee machine was also ver special with us, friendly and bringing the coffee to our table, always there for us.
And the diving center has very competent teachers, we made our open water diver course with Sahid and he was an excellent instructor. The diving excursions are also really amazing

The location and island are awesome!!! Hard to beat. What I did not like were the rules/games played on the all-inclusive. For instance, after a couple mile run I walked up to the bar by the mini golf course and asked them to refill my water bottle. They said they could not do it because I was all-inclusive. If they did do it....they would have to charge me. Come on.....that is ridiculous!!!

This is a big and beautiful resort. Given that it is biggest (or one of the biggest) in Maldives, I was keeping my expectations in check. But it exceeded my expectations. Things are planned meticulously right from international arrivals, domestic travel, check-in, planned room change, check-out and departure.
Taking a cycle for roaming around the resort was very good. it is a big resort and going back and forth from your room to restaurants and other beaches and activities become really convenient. All txns are in USD (I did not even see local currency in my entire trip). Prices are high but I would say this is in line with what you pay for the room etc. Though I was contemplating taking all inclusive package, I did not do it and it was the right decision. I strongly suggest to take full board (especially if you are vegetarian). The main restaurant is has very wide spread (for a vegetarian, you can expect around 30-40% of it to be relevant). The only options outside of buffet are Italian and Thai food with negligible Veg options.

Really enjoyed staying here in the property. Their staff is really good, and very friendly that made it a very pleasant stay. Our room-boy was also great with his communication (Thank you varataraj).
The food was very good, they had a lot of options. They were also able to help with my special jain-diet (no onion and no garlic). The chef was very friendly as well.
The programs they had in terms of water sports was also great, we got a chance to snorkel with dolphins, whale shark, sea turtles and mantarays.

This is by far one of the best resorts I have been to, I am amused by how friendly the staff were, I stayed on full board basis, food was perfect, everything in the buffet was delicious, some of the water sports are free, like canoeing and windsurfing (only if you know how to do it), they have also a bunch of great day trips like Sunset Dolphin, Whale Shark Snorkeling, Manta Ray Snorkeling, Turtle Snorkeling, everything was very well prepared, it was a brilliant holiday.

Beautiful resort with amazing beaches and an air of calm. We booked a sunset villa and it felt like we had our own beach.
My only negative was the prices at the resort. Despite being all inclusive, we did want to use the other restaurants. This was an expensive endeavour though and some of the pricing seemed surprising, occasionally main courses were half the price of starters.

My other thing to not is the journey getting there. We were luck that our flight lined up with their domestic transfer, I could imagine this would be a pain if the flights didn’t match up.
My only negative was the prices at the resort. Despite being all inclusive, we did want to use the other restaurants. This was an expensive endeavour though and some of the pricing seemed surprising, occasionally main courses were half the price of starters.

Beautiful place to visit once, great weather, beautiful water and beaches, not happy with the fact that alcohol was expensive and prohibited in the Maldives entire country. Not allowed to take a personal bottle to resort and taken away at airport arrival to the Maldives, but they did return bottle to me upon leaving country.

The hotel gives you an invoice without a breakup. They overcharge you. If you bring it to their notice, they change it back immediately to the correct amount. It seems like a lot of travelers have shared this feedback. Also a lot of fellow travelers faced the same problem. We were overcharged by 500$. The corrected the invoice after we showed them proof receipts.

Great clean resort. Stayed at beach bungalow. Only downside is that the bungalow allocated to me was far from reception/lobby, so had to rent bicycle. But besides that, had an pleasant experience. Beach is also very clean. Water activities are expensive but good.

First of all, there is nothing bad to say about the Maldives. And that is all this resort has going for it, the location.
I spent over $20 making phone calls prior to arrival to make flight arrangements. I was asked to call back again, and again, and again. The final phone call resulted in the agent giving me a time to check in at the airport. When we arrived, well before the time given, our names were marked as No Show and our flight had already departed. We sat for 5 hours at the airport with no information. And when complaints were lodged, we were again told to come back later, not once, but twice. Staff kept saying that they did not have control over the flight times. Well, you had control in making sure that the CORRECT times were given. We originally wanted to ask for late check out, thinking it would be fair to make up for an afternoon lost. But after our stay, we couldn't wait to get away. Hotel was stingy, only giving ONE small bottle of water each day. A can of coke cost us $4.5, BTW. It's not just overpriced, that's blatant price gouging. You did not have any other dining options other that was is assigned to you, down to the minute... and staff were incredibly rude and obnoxious. After making yet another mistake on our departure flight, we were essentially harassed the entire morning to leave. They came to our door at 7am, then again at 10am, for a departure at 11:45am. We sat in the lobby for over an hour. Please, go somewhere else. What a joke of a resort.

We took a family holiday, returning to UK 3 days ago. Staff were superb, all inclusive options were great & superior beach villa was clean, spacious & located steps from the sea. Hotel organise transfers for you & you pay them upon arrival. This holiday was great value for money. It was our 2nd stay at Sun Island in the last 11 years and it did not disappoint. The staff are so friendly and they go out of their way to help you. There is so much to do on the island so you will not be bored. The staff work so hard to keep the Island immaculate. The superior beach bungalows are spacious and spotlessly clean. The food is very good and there is lots of choice to suit everyone's tastes.

Excellent resort with a lot of room type options. Stayed in a Water bungalow, which was a wonderful experience. This is a must try in Maldives. Also, take the opportunity to observe the night sky here. Our west facing water bungalow offered unbelievable views of stars and even faint views of the Milkyway galaxy cloud (late October) on nights of clear skies. Rooms were excellent and well worth the price. Overall, all facilities including the restaurants, resort activities and most service is good. Only complaint is that some Waiters in restaurants do not serve Indian guests the way they do others. I think they just assume that they will not get a tip and do not care to serve, which is a shame. Apart from this, it is a very good place to enjoy a vacation overall.

We had a truly wonderful time on Sun Island. All bungalows are right be the beach and you have your own little space with sun loungers and chairs.
Hotel staff are super friendly and helpful. They had arranged our transfer from Male airport and everything went swimmingly.
We were half board and enjoyed the breakfast and dinner buffet and its big and daily changing variety.
The perfect location if you are after a super relaxing holiday and taking in the incredible scenery.

Gorgeous island, stilt houses, reasonable price
We loved Sun Island. We stayed in one of the stilt houses and it was incredible. We were able to walk down the stairs directly into the ocean. The view was awesome, the room was good, and the facilities on the island were good. There is a free shuttle to the sister island of Holiday Island, which has better snorkeling than Sun Island. The only things we didn't like were the Whale Shark excursion and the shark and ray feedings. The Whale Shark excursion was unlimited in numbers, so when we did find a whale shark, dozens of people piled into the ocean and scared the shark away. They really need to limit the number of people on the excursion. Eventually, if they keep this up, the whale sharks will just go away rather than be harrassed by snorkelers and divers. The divers actually touched the whale shark on the face and took photos with flash directly in its face, blinding it temporarily. Disgusting behavior! When we first got to Sun Island, we thought the ecosystem must be very healthy due to the number of sharks we saw. However, we then realized there were so many because they were being fed nightly. That is a terrible practice and actually harms the sharks and the ecosystem. They should stop doing this.
The staff, especially the cleaning staff, were very helpful and kind. We had a great stay and hope to return some day.

the resort is not at all worth the price, even though we had taken full board package the hotel simply refused to give free drinking water even in the restaurant during lunch dinner or breakfast time, that is absurdity at its highest level, we felt cheated, the water sport activities are so expensive that we could not try even one of them, there is no control on prices from the hotel side, even there is no senior staff or sales representative available to whom we can refer our queries, once you land there it is as if you are at the mercy of the hotel staff, we had been to other property last year and it was far far superior to this place, even the food spread for vegetarians is quite limited and not many options are available, i would never recommend this place to any of my family, friends colleagues or anyone else, certainly a very poor show!!

Waiting long time to check-in (almost 1 hr), change room (1+ hr), enter restaurant (10+ mins). Wasting lots of our valuable time. Found hotel are using paper based process to record everything for such large property with over 100 rooms. What a mess !!!

A great bargain in such a 4-star resort. Big island for a family with kids. We stayed for four nights and it seems not enough. Recommended for longer stay. A lot of activities for kids and definetely a good resort for people who likes to mingle around.

The islands themselves are amazing to see never seen such unique beaches anywhere in the world but the hotel itself was definitely not a five-star. The food was extremely overpriced and was average tasting at best the staff were not that friendly and the service was definitely only a 2 to 3 star. The housekeeping did not do a very good job cleaning the rooms they only made the bed each day and never restart the fridge I would expect more from a five-star resort especially at the prices they are charging even if it is remote. Still glad that I experienced it but I would probably look at other resorts over this one!

Loved the stay here. It was full of numerous activities that the resort has. The stay at the water bungalow as well as beach bungalows was quite fulfilling. Only hotel service can improve a bit and the food needs improvement as it gets boring and repetitive after two days of stay.

During the stay in the island, we totally forgot our normal life stuff. We were really relaxed. The management of the resort is quite experienced. All the staff are quite polite, kind and friendly except one guy who works at Golf Club whereby there is free wifi. He is not polite at all. The 2nd day when I was going to sit down inside the bar (as outside no roof and no umbrella), he pointed me to sit outside without any explanation and with dark face after I had told him I wouldn't buy any drinks there. I lodged a complaint at the counter. But this happened again on 5th day. After I replied him I didn't need any drinks, he said this place was for people buying drinks. I had to ask him what's the police. He just kept saying people came here for drinks. But there were only a few guests using wifi there. I talked to the counter about the unhappy incidents again. A guy politely apologised and learned the details from me. Except this matter, everything is nice and enjoyed. But people on holiday really don't want to be disrupted by this kind of issue. In addition, 3 more suggestions. The food within the island is quite expensive. Second, departure breakfast is actually in Coffee shop instead of normal main restaurant. But we were not informed. And the schedule is quite tight for departure. Thirdly, the fight to Male airport was delayed quite some time.

It was our first stay in an island. And we stayed in a water villa for 2 nights. Stay was very nice. Room was good. The first advantage of water villa we felt was we can do snorkelling just underneath/next to the villa (something like private).

Sun Island resort and spa is very beautiful and HUGE! The staff there are very friendly and helpful. I booked the standard room beachside, our room overlooked the beach. The resort organised activities for everyone which I found very exciting especially the stingray feeding. I was there with 7 friends and we all had an amazing time. The only issue we faced in our room 480 was the air conditioning wasn't working properly, but it was fixed before we left. It's a resort for everybody, not just couples.

The hotel is situated 20 min flight from Male. We stayed there 8 days from 2 to 9 of January 2014. Ocean veiw villa, but not superior. The room is small and the firniture is really old. TV i guess more than 10 years old. 5 restaurants in the island -the best is Coffe Shop, others are good for one time. Waiters are very slow and sometimes rude, but you have no choice (10% service charge is obligatory). Water activities and diving centre are very good, but snorkling equipment need to be renovated.
Ocean is great, beaches are perfect and the weather was great. In general we had nice vacation, but next time I will choose another hotel.

Resort far exceeded my expectations of 4 star. I liked the overall design of resort including beachside villa, overwater bungalow, restaurants and other facilities.

The reception charged us a staggering extra commission and tried to blame our bank.
After many many many protests, they made us pay again without the commission, and promised a refund which never arrived.
After two months we paid twice our vacation, we never got our refund and will have to involve our lawyers.
