We had a lovely short stay here in February, which is the quieter season (we were told domestic tourism peaks in January), so it felt especially peaceful. The hotel itself is beautiful - the waterfalls are a real highlight - and we loved spotting the friendly peacocks wandering around the grounds. The resort is quite secluded, so dining options are mostly limited to the hotel’s restaurants, although there is a nice little coffee shop just a short walk away. We were also able to secure transport through the hotel to the nearby botanical gardens and Mon Jam, which was a great day out. The staff were warm and welcoming throughout - a really special spot for a calm, relaxing few days.

I took a solo trip to this resort and I must say the staff is very friendly, the resort is very clean, and the food is very good. Btw there is so much stuff to do around the resort I would suggest waiting to book your excursions once you get here. An employee named Tan was very helpful. They also have a beautiful river fall on the resort! Beautiful mountains as well!

Sukintara is located on a breathtaking river. Perfect if you wanna get away and relax. However several of the bungalows are feet from a loud road so it sounds like cars are driving over your head all night.

Good Christmas Break...

This Hotel is a good choice. Amazing location, friendly, family run resort and private. We did a walk through the forest from the location to the Waterfall - That was amaing and unexpected. In winter, you can leave windows open and hear the river all night.

An amazing hotel. I recommend everyone spend some time here if they are near chiang mai. The waterfall view is simply amazing. Coupled with peacocks on your balcony in the mornings makes this a very special place. Truly unique. The peacocks will come right up to your room looking for food and you can feed them from your hand. Also the staff are lovely.

Hotel was very nice. The waterfalls were beautiful and there are peacocks roaming around the grounds. It is a bit far from town. Around 30-45 mins and 55 to the airport. But you do get to be secluded in the mountains. Breakfast was included and rooms have view of the waterfall.

Tranquil waterfall the focus of Sukuntara

Only stayed a couple of nights, wished we could have fitted in longer. Everything perfect with of course the waterfall being the focus and centrepoint. All buildings setout in perfect eqilibribrium with the falls. Staff couldn't have been more helpful. Good food inc best sweets I've had in all my life. Comments all true - no cliches here. If I really had to come up with criticism - parking. 9/10

Beware you will waste your Money

My wife and I looked at the photos on Hotels.com this property does not look like this. We booked the best Room in the place Angelina Jolie stayed in the same suite that was 15 years ago. The Room was dirty , we booked for one night and had to leave it was so bad. The was supposed to have a pool it was not even the size of a small plastic kids pool and also dirty.

Great place. Loved the location. The staff is very friendly and try to help. Spa a bit overpriced compared to Thailand rates.

The single worst point is that the restaurant closes at 8 pm. So if you come back from the city ( 1.5 hr drive away ) and reach the resort at 8.30 pm : Go hungry or go out again. ( Then u have the issue that there are no taxis available here, u need to rent a car ). This is a management issue and nothing to point at the staff for.

Hotel Stay in Mae Rim, Thailand

The hotel is great if you are looking for a rustic experience close to the elephant farms and tiger kingdom. The property is absolutely stunning. We loved the river and the fact that you are in nature really cool bridge and amazing strolls in the evening.

The only thing is that it is far from Chiang Mai city. It takes an hour to get to the city. If you are looking to do more activities, definitely stay here. we stayed here for 1 night and made a change to our stay to be close to the city. We wanted to spend the remainder of our time in Chiang Mai to check out the night market and Saturday night market.

The hotel has a great restaurant. We ordered fried chicken, green curry, and a couple of other dishes. So good and fresh! Definitely eat at the restaurant!

Also, I thought is was cool that Angelina Jolie stayed here for awhile during her stay in Thailand!

There's an actual river running through the hotel!

OK so I'm going to be really positive about this hotel, even though a lot of you may not feel the same. I love it for one reason only, it looks like it's been reclaimed by nature. 10 years old, Sukantara cascade resort lives up to its middle name. We actually had no idea that there would be a full force river rapid flowing through the hotel grounds, completely amazing, and now at the end of the 2nd day we can still sit and just stare at it.
Yes this place has loose taps, slippery steps, moss everywhere, dampness throughout, rotten bamboo in the shower and a shower head that sprays water in 360 degrees, but that's where the character and charm of this hotel comes in. It's not a modern, big chain resort, it wasn't built 3 months ago. No they don't spray poison to kill all the bugs while you're having dinner (but they did over us a fan to blow them away), and if you don't like wild peacocks trying to steal your breakfast then perhaps you should look elsewhere. Rent a scooter as quickly as you can and then ride around to check out the area, that's my best tip. Ba Ba Black Cafe has world class desserts and coffee at a fraction of the cost, and Sukantara is only 10 minutes from every possible attraction you could ask for, tigers, snakes, monkeys, guns, ATV's whatever. So anyone who loves nature and wants to stay in a place completely intertwined with it should choose Sukantara. If you're sensitive to bugs, dampness and the thought of sleeping in the jungle, don't even bother.

Nice hotel away from it all

Stayed in deluxe panaroma room with view of the cascading waterfall. If you like to stay somewhere you can relax and be close to nature, this place does it. Nearest 7-11 is about 8 km downhill. Serves average tasting food. On some nights the peacock decides to party, but bearable to sleep. Watch the peacock fan out its tail over breakfast. Great experience!

Hotel far away from airport.No sightseeing around

Hotel maintenance is poor. No hot water in our room #8(claim as Luxury Tent). Cold,dusty and broken water tap and door could not be locked. Woke up in midmight many times by sound of peacocks. Food and Spa price are unreasonable with limited facilities. Small outdooor swimming pool with no shower and sauna facilities. Hotel price charge not worth.
Only attracted by its water fall. Hotel staffs not helpful by given wrong information.Many flies and ants flying around during eating.

Beautiful location, close to many of the attractions for tourists like elephant camps, tiger kingdom, etc. The rooms are a bit dated, but nice. Beware of ants though. You're in a natural setting and the rooms are not sealed well so they get in. Ask for some spray at the front desk and don't eat in the rooms and you'll be fine. Also, beware of booking the luxury tent room if you're traveling with small children, elderly or are otherwise physically challenged as you have to walk across the rocks with water rushing over them to get to the room. Thankfully they upgraded us to a room on the same side as reception after seeing our infant; there is no way we could have attempted that! Overall a lovely and relaxing place and we would definitely recommend!

Great place to get away from it all. Nearest town is 15k away, if you want quiet in a beautiful location then this is the one for you. The staff are friendly and extremely helpful. Trips to surrounding attractions are easily organised at quite good rates. I'd recommend doing a two or three hour trip at one of the ATV places that are nearby. Bear in mind that you are in a forested area with a river running right through the place so there are quite a few bugs and ants around, the staff do a good job of keeping the rooms fairly bug free, but you're going to get some.

Out of the way, but can't beat the peace and quiet

The staff here is amazing. The surroundings are incredible. There is a driver available, or the staff will arrange a taxi for you... Because the only downfall is that you are about an hour outside of Chiang Mai... The spa prices are a lot more expensive at the hotel also. So if you're planning on being in the city all the time, maybe not for you.... But you won't be disappointed with the serenity, the service and the smiles! We stayed for a week, and had drivers come daily to take us to different places, no big deal. We live in a big city and wanted a quiet trip in the mountains.

Beautiful small hotel

Pictures cannot capture the idyllic setting of this hotel. absolutely, unbelievably gorgeous. Rushing water sounds help sleep at night, staff's english not great, so leaves some room for misunderstanding when ordering dinner, but will do anything to ensure a pleasant stay. There was a group of about 25 people who travelled there just to do yoga, the setting was so tranquil. waterfalls and river running right through hotel. Lobby and restaurant all open air. It is about 45 minutes from town, so about 700 baht for fixed rate taxi, but minutes from Tiger Kingdom, and some other activities.

Well-separated from distractions, but not a fun dr

The hotel itself is extremely peaceful and serene, which is pretty much a necessity after the long, winding drive up the canyon to get to it. Great for a relaxing, romantic getaway, but if you're planning to do much in Chiang Mai or Mae Rim, you'll want to find something in a more convenient location.

In the jungle, the mighty jungle...

Great location if you are looking for a true nature experience. The tiny, rustique resort is located in the middle of the jungle, about an hour ride away from main Chiang Mai city. The picturesque scenery (a cascaded waterfall runs thru the resort) and unique design and set up (free running pea cocks?!) definitely make up for the remoteness which at times made transportation challenging. Please be ready for outdoor \"bathroom\", take plenty of mosquitoe spray and make time to try the beautiful (if not a bit expensive) Spa. Only real bummer was that the small Pool was closed due to maintenance which we had not been made aware at time of booking.

Falls-tastic!!

This place as truly unreal, the spa, the food and OMG the location!! I whole heartedly recommend it. My husband I traveled easily from Singapore and found our stay so incredibly lovely. We meant to visit the surrounding area, but instead just hiked to interesting locations on foot to maximize our time at the hotel.

Restaurant Thaï extra, personnel aux petits soins, propreté irreprochable, chambres impeccables. Piscine un peu fraîche mais agréable. Certaines chambres sont proches de la route mais pas trop de circulation.
Habitation authentique Thaï avec beaucoup d'histoire. La nature et les oiseaux en tous genres sont omniprésents. Le spectacle peut occuper plusieurs heures...

Sans aucun problème le cadre ! unique au monde vous êtes transporté dans la ZENITUDE Totale c’est un hôtel que je cherchais depuis toujours et que je viens de trouver (enfin) un vrai paradis sur terre animaux dans leur milieu naturel cascade végétation luxuriante piscine restauration au bord de l’eau chambre vue sur cascade accueil super sympa .
Vraiment pour des gens qui cherche un endroit très Zen croyez-moi vous l’avez trouvé vous allez vous en mettre plein les yeux !

enjoy the natural environment mindfully!

Love this resort is located in a natural rural area, we can enjoy the sound of water fall and hiking any time. The staff is super nice, since I told her I want to celebrate my friend's birthday, she arranged a little birthday cake to my friend for free. Moreover, every staff here make me feel mindful, specially the Thai message, it's wonderful.
Since, the resort is just near the forest, some little insects and ants in our room, but acceptable. if you don't afraid of insects and love natural environment, it's highly recommend.

Awesome Location but needs requires maintenance.

Its a 5 star location but at best a 3 star resort.
The resort needs to do more work on cleaning the buildings.

Toilets and showers are not inside the buildings so the insects and bugs have a field day when you are using the facilities.

Food is excellent.
Location is excellent.

Overall not too bad and is great to fall asleep and wake up to the waterfall :)
