Prided for being the oldest hotel in Denmark, you can feel its history the moment you step into the lobby, with its charming period furnishings. If you want a true taste of history, this is the place to stay. The rooms are adequate and warm, though ours had a rather slanted floor. The location is excellent.. right next to the cathedral and at the start of Ribe’s old street, two of the town’s main attractions.

A small hiccup during check-in: there was no one at reception, and calls to the provided number went unanswered, which meant we couldn’t access the private parking. Breakfast, however, was fantastic, with a nice variety of options.

we were travelling around Jutland. We are from Canada.We chose this hotel for the nostalgia. All the floors were not level. my husband felt that he was rolling towards the side of the bed.Which is understandable for the oldest hotel in Denmark. Upon entering our bathroom, we were not satisfied with the cleanliness of the shower area. So we opted not to shower that day. With regards to parking, you have to park offsite about 250 m away. You were able to pull up in front of the hotel to unload. Breakfast was included and it was just okay.

The hotel is in a very nice old building located across from the Ribe Cathedral. It is very centrally located, which makes it easy to walk around town from there. There is a very nice restaurant in the hotel but there are several very good restaurants within a short walking distance.
The room we got had probably the smallest shower I have ever experienced, 4x4 ft. It was very difficult to take a good shower.
Overall it was a very nice stay. Very friendly and helpful staff. I would recommend the hotel despite the small bathroom we had.

We wanted to stay at this historic hotel in this historic town. We had high hopes. Our hopes were fulfilled beyond our imagination. The hotel manager is very informative, helpful and engaging. Our room (105) was clean and quiet despite the windows facing the gågade. Bed was comfortable. We dined outside in the courtyard. The wait staff are excellent. We had to leave early in the morning and the kitchen made us a \"to go\" breakfast. Very kind of them. We highly recommend this hotel.

The oldest hotel in Denmark - but we were pleased to stay in a modernised annex building across from the main hotel. The room was clean and the bed very comfy. The main hotel was quirky with its uneven floors and dark decor. Breakfast options were basic and limited - but enough to fill us up.

The receptionist at the hotel could barely muster a hello. Asked about if there was a laundry around and she was almost disgusted that I asked. Check out wasn’t much better. The hotel is very old but the room was adequate and clean. The breakfast was great- lots of variety.

A mistake
An old hotel - but not worth staying there.
Only if one is ready to give up all “modern” facilities.
The rooms are dark and very hot (window don’t open properly), toilet is dump with unpleasant smell… etc

Check-in was a bit chaotic but it turns out we should have told them in advance we were arriving after 6. We received this info (via Expedia) the day after we checked-in.
We thought we were staying in the oldest hotel in Denmark and were ready for modern faculties to be a little on the thin side. As it turns out they put us in the annexe which whilst it is a very low standard it also lacked the historical character. If I’d know we were staying in the annex I’d have booked elsewhere.
Breakfast was sparse but way too many guests for the staff or the flow of food. We had to clear and clean our own table to find a spot.
We had dinner one night at the hotel which was excellent.
Ribe is lovely but if we return we’ll stay elsewhere.

Whimsical and ramshackle but in a very characterful way as it is a very old hotel. My room was not the best as it was at the rear of the property with no view of the cathedral and only of the kitchen ventilation system however it was absolutely fine. The staff were completely delightful and I would happily stay there again.

Fantastic...

We had a wonderful stay, the staff were extremely welcoming and friendly. Could not be more helpful. The location was perfect, right in the middle of everything and the history and character of the building could be felt throughout. The food was very good (but the gluten free choices in the restaurant were very limited) the room was quirky with the sloping floor, walls and ceiling, nothing was level and made for a very interesting few days. The bed was comfortable but not a double, it was 2 singles pushed together that kept coming apart because of the extreme slope of the floor. I fell through more than once. I would have preferred they been tied together and level (just cut the legs!). The bathroom was a good size and the shower powerful and the coffeemaker in the room was a nice touch (the unlimited and complimentary hot drinks at reception were also very good). The entrance to the room was tight and awkward but actually only added to the great feel of the historic building. Overall, I loved it (even though it was very expensive and the parking was a 5 minute walk away) I would not hesitate to stay there again, or recommend it to anyone.

It's hard not to like this quaint, historic hotel. The staff seemed indifferent, but the room was clean with a nice view of the square and the cathedral. Our dinner at the basement restaurant was good but not great with a waitstaff that was slow and unresponsive. The breakfast the next morning was an improvement on all fronts. The town was charming and a fun place to roam around. I strongly recommend the free Night Watchman tour held each evening.

Historic Ambience but with Drawbacks in Comfort

Our room was in the main building, the one that dates from 1581, on the first floor (i.e. the floor above the ground floor, in European usage). The room was very small, although reasonably well appointed, and the bathroom was cramped. Other rooms on this corridor were considerably larger. Not surprisingly, there was no air conditioning, but it was possible to keep the room comfortable at night by opening the windows. Noise from the street below began early in the morning, however. The hotel's location on Torvet, the square containing the town's Medieval cathedral, was ideal. The buffet breakfast, which was included in the room price, offered a good selection, but no smoked or pickled fish, which are common in breakfasts in other hotels in Denmark and Norway. The breakfast area had an appropriate antique decor. The dinner in the hotel's restaurant was excellent in terms of both cuisine and decor.

Over all I enjoyed my one night stay. The hotel had all the old world charm you could ask for and the staff was very helpful and polite. Breakfast was good. For improvement I would suggest more plant based food items.
The beds were good. The room was relative quite even though the hotel is in the center of Ribe next to the Cathedral.
I did feel the hotel was in need for a major renovation. The price was in the high end for the standard of the room. I am sure the rooms were relative clean, but the stains on the carpet were hard to overlook and the furniture really needed to be cleaned up and repaired or if possible replaced.

Excellent location. Inside, similar to other 3-star hotels in Denmark we've seen. Ventilation for kitchen below our room was extremely loud. Staff said it would get switched off at 11pm, but that turned out not to be true, and by then it was impossible to find anyone (no staff on site, not answering phone).

Beautiful setting, quirky old establishment

The hotel is exactly what you expect from a 500yr old hotel. Right in the centre of town across from the church. You can walk anywhere in town in under 15mins. The staff were friendly and helpful, the breakfast was delicious and the nightwatch tour begins right outside the hotel. The hotel however, could use a major reno while still keeping with the historical appearance.

We stay in the annex building, which is about 150 meters from the main building. Breakfast was served in the main building, so it took some walks before the BF. We found it is nice to walk in the Square in the morning because it is peaceful and quite. The Square get crowded after 10 AM.

Room is in very good condition and very clean.

We stayed in the second floor of the Annex. No elevator and the stair is steep. Not easy if you need to carry heavy luggage.

Hotel should forward a heads-up email regarding checkin logistics. Since parking or stopping near the hotel is prohibited, let guests know the procedure for dropping off luggage. I stayed here 20 years ago and rated the service, buffet breakfast, etc 10/10. Standards since then have diminished. Location is excellent. Ribe is a must visit!

As a Brit, this was a decidedly unimpressive hotel. If you are a yankee, you would be in raptures at something older than your country and prepared to overlook most things. Which is exactly what they trade against. Age instead of comfort. No lift which, for an elderly relative in poor health was not fun after being put on the top floor (yes, it was my mistake to not check when booking). Very old which would be a plus if the entire place didn't smell a tad funny.

Otroligt trevlig personal! Fint och rent rum (bodde i annexet). God frukost, men lite mindre urval än vanligt. Historiskt hus i historisk stad. Lite svårt att kunna ställa bilen nära för att lasta i och lasta ur bagage, ffa på söndagen då hela området runt hotell och domkyrka stängs av för biltrafik.

Morgenmadsmenuen var standard, men brød til skæring slap ofte op, og bacon var tørt og hårdt. Parkering koster 150 kr i døgnet 50 meter fra hotellet, men gratis på en øde parkeringsplads 750 meter væk. Man skal være sikker på at vælge seng ved bestilling, ellers ender man på en gammel 140 cm madras.

Endnu et ophold på Hotel Dagmar.

Som altid god service, dejlig morgenmad, god seng og central beliggenhed.

Men!

1) Desværre bliver man ikke spurgt ved bestilling og checkind om man vil spise på restauranten. Hotellets gæster burde have borde til rådighed.
At sidde i kældercafeen er ikke det samme.

2) Desværre er rengøringen et tilbagevendende problem, specielt når det gældere de dyrere værelser.
Brusekabinen havde store belægninger af SORT MUG og SVAMP på alle fugninger og hjørner.
Det må ikke ske, føj.

3) Borehuller i klinkerne på badeværelse var dækket af Gaffertape.

4) Bordet under Nespressomaskinen var så skjoldet og krakeleret at.....
Ikke pænt.

Men jo historisk hotel, alt er charmerende skævt, service og morgenmad helt fin.
Jeg kommer tilbage.

Men personale/ledelse kan godt tage sig sammen på andre punkter.

God hotel, ok morgenmad

Dejligt centralt hotel, med smilene og servicemindet personale. Dejligt at kunne hent the/kaffe/vand gratis og måtte side udenfor. Værlset var meget mørkt og det ene bord meget støvet. Morgenmad var udvalget lille, det er egentlig ok, men så forventer jeg også det er i top det der er der, men i forhold til den høje pris havde jeg forvente lidt andet. Vi spiste på hotelet det var fantastisk, det under mig man få rabat med ældresagen, men ikke som gæst på hotelet. Jeg tænker man skal prøve at bo der, men nu er det prøvet og til den pris vi gav, vil jeg ikke book der igen.
