Really poor hotel. Not worth the money. Staff were fairly rude. And the room was roasting. No thermostat in the radiator. Linens were old and tatty. Shower cubicle was broken. There was about a cm between the toilet and the shower so had to at side on. And forget it if you want an extra pillow. Apparantly, there were no spares in the whole hotel. This hotel had me googling early flights home!

The property was very clean and welcoming. It is located 25mins walk from Gare du Nord.

Although it does not have great views, I highly recommend it if you intend to be 30min walking distance from Louvre, Notre-Dame, Basilique du Sacré-Cœur and other landmarks.

Needs an update, but was clean.

The room was just a room. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom is very small. I could barely fit in the shower opening. Literally body parts were rubbing to enter and exit the shower. I could lose weight I suppose. The staff was very kind and helpful. They gave me shampoo and new remote batteries upon asking. I didn't like having to leave my key each time I left the hotel. I would stay again. It was very close to public transportation and many restaurants and bars. Just don't expect a resort. The Wi-Fi was TERRIBLE. That would have to be my biggest complaint. If I opened the window and stood in front of it, then my cell service would pick up, but that was the only way to get any internet connection that was reliable.

Didn't spend too much time in it so wasn't too much of a problem.
Beds comfortable.
Air con machine and fans provided otherwise the heat would have been unbearable.
You get what you pay for, so if you just want a basic base, then it may suit.
Great location though, for metro or just wandering into the centre. (20-30 mins steady walk)

Not bad by European standards, very small by North American standards. I am not that big but had to be angle just right to get in and out of the shower. Very good soundproofing to the street and staff very friendly. Overall it is a little dated but did the trick for a brief stay. Note, no in-room safe available and you leave the room key with the front desk when you go out. On the plus side, the bed was way more comfortable than I expected.

Perfectly adequate for a 2 star...

Well located between Gard du Nord station and the river Seine, everywhere in the 2nd and 3rd arr. was accessible within a 25 min walk with plenty of metro options. The room was small and what you would expect for a 2 star establishment but it was clean and had access to a terrace which was nice to step out to. The fixtures and fitting were clearly old and tired, but functioned fine.

The only positive I have for this hotel is it’s location. Great location! Walkable to small shops, restaurants, and metro. Please be aware that there is no air conditioning!!! If it’s going to be there when it’s hot, please look at other accommodations, no fans, no airflow. The room itself was tiny, old, I felt like at anytime the closest was going to come crashing down, the paint was peeling off the walls, the elevator was busted for part of our stay. They also made us turn in our key every time we left and we could pick it up when we got back, I just thought it was kind of strange.

Small pillows, about half American standard sized. Room was quiet. Location not bad but have to walk awhile to get to the train station or metro. Shower had a very large step to get into the shower, at least 40cm high. Leaving keys at desk when you leave but staff remember you so they know where you are staying. Next door to a boulangerie for a quick breakfast. Elevator in good working condition but very small, barely big enough for two thin people and two medium sized bags to fit it.

The good first.. the hotel is about a 5-min walk from 2 train lines, has a boulangerie/pattiserrie across the street and cafes & bistros are walking distance.

The bad... the hotel is dirty, it’s old but old places can be clean. i normally don’t fuzz about dirt, and i was only staying for less than 24 hours, but the room smelled old, and like it wasn’t clean. During my stay the elevator wasn’t working and my room was on the 5th floor. Haways didn’t have a light so i felt unsafe. Upon inspecting the bed, i found a bed bug on the spare bed and bug crawling on the ceiling. I barely slept thinking about the bugs that could be hiding.

Great location, close to restaurants and locals having fun! Staff were very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately no air conditioning, only a little fan, so had to sleep with windows open which made for extremely noisy, interrupted sleep every night! Room was extremely small with no kettle or fridge, which would’ve have been ok for one night. The room decor was fine, but the bathroom was very grotty with peeling paint and mold on the ceiling. We still had a fabulous time in Paris though!

The location is very good, close to local restaurants and a small bakery right across! Our window was facing the street and we could see the bakery. There was an option to have breakfast in the hotel but we preferred to go out or just bring the freshly baked croissants into the room. The hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating. There is someone at the front desk 24 hours.

the room and the bathroom is old and just another place to stay .
nothing special for the those.
but what i love most is the people who works there. the front office, the house keeping , everyone.
they do not speak a very good english but i cam understand them, but how they act when you need help and how they willing to assist you is super top!
and rhe way they do their job, even 5 stars hotels staff could not beat them.

the surounding is great!
restaurants, all kinda food is available with a local pricing!
love them so much for these!
and most of all the subway station is just 5 minutes away on both end of the road!

this is not a fancy hotel, even i think it is too much for the price. but i dont care, since the people and the surounding is super cool!

fully recommended to people who wanna stay a cheap and decent place in paris with a great surounding!

We ended up leaving the hotel. Once we checked in, we were told we were on the 6th floor. The elevator only goes to the 5th.
The room looked like it haven't been cleaned, crumbs under the bed, bathroom was aged. Once we removed the covers to check the sheets, we found hairs on two of the beds. The outlet / plug was broken - didn't stay in the wall. Overall not a clean place to stay.

Poorly managed hotel with hardly any amenities. Worst hotel I have stayed so far in Paris. Service was bad break fast was bad, bathroom lights stopped working in the evening. I booked another room for my colleague and they informed me on the day od check in that its been cancelled. Thanks to hotels.com we still got the room. Hotels.com should remove such hotels which are charging so high for no good service.

Uncomfortable bed as well as bed stains, the bathroom was very small, but most importantly the room itself was incredibly small. Bu the worst thing that happened to us, was that in the morning, we got knocked on the door telling us that there won't be water for 30 minutes due to repairs. But the promised 30 minutes ended up being 2.5 hrs. We wasted a whole day because we couldn't shower. The staff wasn't very friendly and the cleaning lady kept wanting us to leave the room because she had to clean.

Was given a very small room with a double bed against one side of the wall...
an interior room with a view of a breathing air court ...with disheveled paint on the exterior walls.
The bathroom had a very small shower stall with plastic curtain.
When I complained to the reception the night receptionist told me to speak to reception in the morning...when I did speak to the morning reception was told the room I saw and reserved...was a cheaper one ...not the ones on the front side...but on Expedia..it did not distinguish the two kinds so as for me to take the room pictured on the reservation...They were full on that weekend so I stayed put in the substandard room.

1. The hotel's shower holder was damaged.

Budget hotel with friendly staff

You get what you pay for, this was a well priced hotel in the centre of Paris, it is a minutes walk from the Republique metro which has great connections. We stayed in a trio room which looks much bigger in photos but it had all the basic amenities that were needed. The rooms can get very cold at night as blankets are thin. The shower was great however there was a leak in our bathroom which needs looking into. The best part of the hotel were the staff at the front desk, they were very friendly and always tried to help when they could. I wold recommend staying here on a budget!

Awful hotel. We are used to staying in budget accommodation and using a hotel as simply somewhere to sleep. We have also visited Paris before so we knew what to expect. However this hotel was terrible. Surly, uncommunative staff and dangerous rickety stairs led us to our room. The room was tiny, with a small double bed and camp-bed style single bed. The balcony doors did not close and the shower door was hanging off. The bathroom smelt and the neighbourhood was noisy and full of pickpockets.

Not worth the money, avoid!

Hotel was in a great spot, everything else was average. We were looking for a discount hotel and that is what we got so we weren't overly surprised. Our room definitely differed from the pictures posted, and we were somewhat concerned about the cleanliness, but that was our only complaint. Service was good, and location was good. No air conditioning which was unfortunate for the summer, but a fan was provided.

Hotel near local facilities and importantly Metro stations, with nearest 2 minutes walk away. Hotel is basic but clean. Staff very helpful and most speak good English. There is a lot of noise at night, but to be expected being so central. We stayed in summer, so with the windows open the main noise irritation is sound of scooters being driven hard. I would return to the hotel, based on value for money and the amenable and helpful staff.

My wife and I booked this hotel on Expedia based on the pictures and customer reviews, which weren't too bad for a 2 star hotel.

When we arrived to the hotel we noticed that the rooms were kind of run down, old furniture, and bed covers, and extremely uncomfortable mattress. Part of our shower glass door was broken so their way to repair this was to hang a plastic shower curtain where one part of the glass door should be. This curtain was nasty and moldy which made showering in this tiny shower unbearable.

The worst part was that there is no Air Conditioning in the rooms. You will have to sleep with the windows open which will do nothing but let the smoke form the adjacent balconies into your room (everyone smokes in Paris) and the noise from the people and cars in the streets will make sleeping impossible for you. When we asked the front desk if we could get a room with A/C he said no but he can see if they have a fan that we can use.

We originally booked it for 5 days but had to leave after spending 2 nights because we couldn't get any sleep. When we asked the front desk if they could at least give us part of our money back they said sorry no can do, all pre-payments are non refundable. We ended up going down the street to a Name Brand hotel which was beautifully renovated and had A/C.

Do yourself a favor and spend a couple of extra dollars for a better hotel. This hotel WILL RUIN your visit to paris, AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!

Good hotel for Paris

This hotel has a great location. It is just 2 min walk to metro and restaurants and shopping. The only issue is there is no AC in the room and you have to open windows instead. But this was not an issue for us because we left in the morning and only got back to room after 10pm. The breakfast is 7 euros and it is pretty good. Hotel staff was wonderful.

The staff was nice however the hotel is so old. The pictures on the website are false. We hardly had room to move around. Only one outlet worked,the shower didn't have proper drainage and the lamp didn't work. I guess we got what we paid for. The hotel was overall clean and the location was good. It's located around 15 mins away from the eifel tower. There's a cafe across the street that serves good breakfast. Wifi was a plus!!!

small hotel with very small room

my room was very small, with the ensuite being much smaller than expected. The bedroom was just about large enough for the single bed, and enough room to change in, but nothing more. The Bathroom had a shower, wash basin, and Toilet but was not big enough for these 3 things and barely bigger than a wardrobe. The shower was actually a struggle to get into, with the doors only opening a small amount. The photographs that i saw on the website before booking are nothing like the room i had, and infant very disappointing.

My room was so small that you nearly can reach it's width by stretching out your arms, window in bathroom won't close (lock broken) so it was freezing cold all night. Overall, it was a nasty surprise. In fairness, location was ok as Republique metro was only two mins away.

Hotel Excelsior is a total rip off. Myself and 2 friends stayed there for 2 nights and it was a disappointment to say the least. It was extremely cramped, the staff was unfriendly and not willing to help in any sort. We were sweating all night both nights and barely slept, the wifi was \"broken\" and so was the elevator so we had to carry ourselves our luggage up 4 flights of stairs with no sorry or help. PLEASE BOOK SOMEWHERE ELSE.

Sad depressing noisy unpleasant place

Not sure where to start: the saggy mattress, the loud chambermaids screaming to each other between floors, the decrepit stained toilet seats, the lack of electrical outlets (2) of which one was yanked out of the wall, the sporadic & unreliable wifi, or the smug tone of the woman whose response to my concerns was simply, \"sir, this is not a palace.\" Caution: do NOT prepay several night til you spend one there and decide whether the convenient location is worth putting up with all the rest for.

Nice place to lay your head while you explore

The hotel was decent and the staff was helpful enough. Most of the staff members spoke English. It is in a really nice neighborhood with lots to do. The open bus tour stop number 55 is not even five minutes from the hotel. The metro is a four minute walk. We did not get breakfast included but directly across the street there is an amazing bakery that has fresh baguettes and croissants. My only real complaint was the Wi-Fi we stayed on the fifth floor which had a great view but the Wi-Fi really did not work very well I had to go to the third-floor in order to really be able to use my iPad and my Internet.

This hotel was cheap and very much a no frills experience which is reflected in the price paid.
The rooms are very basic with blankets as apposed to duvets.
The decor leaves a lot to be desired with paint peeling off the walls and holes in the floor. The shower cubical had broken and was replaced with a curtain.
That said if you want very basic facilities it works. The room was ensuite and the toilet functioned as did the shower and sink, the bed was basic but comfortable and there were clean towels and beddding.
Would I go back? Probably not id pay a bit more for something a bit smarter.

This hotel is very basic -- room ceiling is in bad condition, the bathroom is small, things are old, but the whole venue has a tipical Parisien atmosphere, so this is okay. Below average hotel. Not 2 star but Good location

Rooms were small which was expected. Beds were springy and not comfortable. Shower room was mess. Not worth the money they charged. But good location and near metro. Hotel staff Catherine was very helpfull.

2nights in Paris

The room was very small, but I was traveling by myself and I adjust my room size expectations when traveling in Europe. It is well located to be able to walk to many major attractions.

Most amazing location and lovely hotel

I had a rough start in Paris. EE had put a block on my phone so I couldn't call anyone and my battery had almost died.
The lovely guy at the desk charged my iphone for me and I went up to a lovely hotel room which looked just like the pictures. The bathroom was bigger than I expected.
The location is amazing.
Everywhere is within half an hours walk!
Sacre coeur, Notre dame, musee Louvre, musee d'Orsay.... L'arc de Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower are probably closer to an hours walk in all honesty but you get to experience beautiful paris.
The shopping district of Haussmann is just a 20 minute walk down the Boulevard St Denis.
It really is the perfect location in a nice diverse and hip area in the theatrical district.
I walked alone at 3am and never felt threatened.
There are plenty of places to eat where quite a few staff speak English.... While I tried to practice my French.
Although I didn't have the breakfast as I'm not a breakfast person, it does smell lovely in the morning.
The staff are beautiful people. The concierges, the manager and the cleaning staff were just wonderful.
I will be staying here every time I come to Paris.

Pleasant Surprise of a Great Little Hotel

Room carpet and bathroom needed a good scrubbing. Linen was clean and fresh. Walls are a little thin. Very close to the REPUBLIQUE plaza/metro station. Staff are tourist and English friendly. Very international customer base: English, Russian, Italian, Muslim, Chinese. Good restaurant options in the vicinity(McDonalds, KFC, brasseries, Italian, Chinese). The chinese restaurant 5 Colors (adjacent 2 doors over) is a hidden gem. The locals pack this fondue/buffet restaurant.

La chambre était sale .. le sol collant et sale des chevaux au sol sur les toilettes sur les serviettes.
Le pommeau de douche ne tient pas..
La douche est minuscule avec le rideau de douche qui vous touche.
La chambre ne fait pas plus de 8m2.
Bref à fuir!

Hôtel vieux et mal entretenu et chambre vétuste. Pas de clim, j’étais au 5eme er dernier étage,,une chaleur suffocante.
Dommage car l’hôtel est très bien situé près de la place de la république et le personnel agréable. Mauvais Rapprt qualité / prix. Ayant payé plus de 100€ la chambre / nuit je m’attendais à un peu plus de confort.

Le personnel ça allait mais malheureusement l’état de la chambre laisse vraiment a désirer !
Nous ça va reculer de cacahouète sur notre lit la seule prise fonctionnelle de la chambre au pied du lit est resté dans nos mains, car elle était scotché au mur .
Les files du sèche-cheveux étaient dénudées bref nous n’y retournerons pas !

Chambre moyennement propre, mais très vieux et pas trop entretenu. Le personnel est gentil et serviable, mais les installations sont vieillies.
Nous n'avons pas eu de wifi durant notre séjour
