The hotel is lovely, and the history really permeates. The pianist in the lobby was elegant, and our meal in the lobby restaurant was wonderful, both the food and the service. The room was large and comfortable, but it was very difficult to cool the room adequately with the air conditioning. It was also adjacent to two busy streets, and the traffic noise was not dampened by the windows much at all. Overall, it was a good stay.

Our room was comfortable. The only thing to me that lacked was that the TV was too small. It had a nice shower and comfortable bed. I did love the historic atmosphere of the hotel—almost like stepping back in time! It was also convenient to several nice restaurants. Great breakfast we had at the cafe! The check-in, restaurant, and valet staff were very helpful and courteous!

The Brown is a lovely enclave in the heart of the city. Its rich history makes for an interesting stay. The cocktails at the bar were phenomenal and the waitstaff excelled! When we arrived, a live pianist was entertaining the guests. The room was simple, but lovely.

The rooms were dated and I have stayed several times during the last 50 plus years. Pealing wall paper, AC vents that were either wide open or completely closed, bathroom tile that had not been cleaned even close to recently and a TV the size of a microwave. IT ONLY COSTED ME 250.00!!!

The Hotel it's self is beautiful inside. The outside needs some up keep.
The main dining area had a very strong musty smell couldn't eat in there.
Had a chef table experience, nice service but way over priced.

The hotel was overpriced and lacked basic supplies like coffee and tea. The mattress was extremely hard, causing me severe pain and making me miss my front row show with Robert Plant. The bathroom baseboard was filthy with residue. The layout was confusing, making it hard to find anything. The parking fee was excessive. Checking in was a hassle; no one was at the desk when we arrived, and a nearby hostess ignored my daughter’s request for help. Fortunately, a kind food server came to assist us. The hotel needs a better check-in system, like a phone or buzzer, since they mentioned using a camera to monitor guests. We waited 10 minutes before the clerk came out to check us in.

The Brown Hotel had Shuttle Service and then would not shuttle us to Chrurchill Downs. The next day we dropped people at Churchill and they were told to call when they wanted to get back. That was on our way to the airport. I felt like we were treated very poorly. The Hotel is masterpiece but staff is not engaging. I was returning to visit Kentucky after 50 years. Had lived there in elementary school. We were outsiders, I did not expect that.

Great location, beautiful building in and out loved the designed, and decorations. Sadly to report that the carpet in bedroom needs to be clean to feel fresh curtains needs to be vacumed, i could smell the dust, all doors need to be cleaned and disinfected. Front desk help needs to be more explicit about what hotel is offering. Mother's day brunch was in a beautiful salon and food was delicious. Hotel has excellent location and it's beautiful!

And then when he did take my drink order he took other orders and then had to run around and find their bottle of wine, etc while I waited some more for a simple drink. And yes I was there before them.

Built in 1923. It has loads of charm. Lots of character. The rooms are a little outdated.

The hotel has a great history and the lobby is beautiful, however, the term \"faded glory\" is best to describe the place now. It needs work. The hotel is not located in a very good area with bums passed out on the sidewalk and lots of homeless wandering around. The room was just ok. Certainly not a 4 or 5 star room. The bathroom is nice. The famous Hot Brown is WONDERFUL!!! The main problem is the place is tired and the staff needs more training. There was trash just thrown behind the bar glasses on the window ledge, a stapler sat on the bar, crap just left around, etc. Fine if I'm a local tavern but this is supposed to be a fancy place. We had reservations in the lobby restaurant. When we checked in the hostess wanted to seat us at a high-top table in the walkway by the bar...in an empty restaurant. Seriously? They expect me to drop a couple hundred dollars on dinner in an empty \"fancy\" restaurant sitting at a high-top table like I was having dinner at Hooter's? It sounds like I'm being picky. Maybe I am. But once you see the lobby of the Brown and imagine what it COULD be, you will understand why I was VERY underwhelmed. There are nicer hotels for the same money.

I have always respected the dignity and beauty of historic hotels, and finally got the chance to experience the Brown. The architecture of the public areas is magnificent. It is clean and well maintained. The food was extraordinary.

Unfortunately, check-in is a sad introduction to the historic experience. The staff was polite and responsive, but the logistics were deplorable. Traffic jams were common at the front door, and anyone not using the valet was relegated to an alley side-entrance to the parking garage. Once parked, hotel guests are expected to cross the ally in an 2nd floor causeway to check-in at the desk.

Then the guests are expected to take the elevator back down to the 1st floor to get a transfer cart, then go back up the elevator to the second floor, and back across the causeway to the parking garage, then back to the 2nd floor main lobby, to take the elevator to your room, then back down to the 1st floor to return the luggage cart, then back up the elevator to one's room.

A historic venue of this caliber is damaged by the sad process of simply getting checked in. I've never seen such a distorted process.

It's an old Hotel, well kept but to me doesn't meet today's standards. Nice bathroom, OK bed. I did not like the area, lots of homeless and buildings that are not occupied. Did not venture to go for a walk anywhere. In general it looks like Louisville is going downhill. Churchill Downs experience was excellent. No simple breakfast, only expensive at the Hotel Lobby.

The Brown is a beautiful, historic hotel located in downtown Louisville that is close to restaurants and nightlife. The staff were wonderful. Want to give a special shout out to Jeremiah. He was our bartender our first night and our waiter the second night of our stay. While there you must try the Hot Brown as this is where the dish was originally created. It was delicious!

We had a very pleasant stay at the Brown. It is a beautiful building, the rooms are spacious and clean, and the staff are kind and helpful. We especially enjoyed the bar in the lobby area and the warm expertise of the bartenders (Kat, Jeremiah, Umut and James?). The cafe downstairs has excellent breakfast (the best omelette I've had in a hotel restaurant) though I liked their a la carte menu better than the buffet they serve on Sundays. We didn't want to drive anywhere during our stay so with its proximity to the main attractions of Downtown and to the Nulu area, this was the perfect spot for our first visit to Louisville. We'll be back!

This hotel is easily worth the money, and everyone must try the Hot Brown. I visited with my elderly mother, with the idea that local relatives would visit us there. They did. The lobby is excellent for this, and the room offered a sumptuous sofa, which also fit the bill. The Cafe has a limited menu, and the prices on the Internet are incorrect. Sad part is that there is no menu in the room. Front desk says to use online menu. This is why I can only give four stars. That said, the food is good, although a room-service cinnamon roll, which cost a shocking ten dollars (versus six on the menu) showed up as no more than a petrified hockey puck. All else was great, including the Manhattans at the bar. Beware--the fine-dining room is closed.
