The site is well laid out, and we enjoyed our stay. There are some reptiles in terrariums and a butterfly aviary. Part of the paths is fully paved, which avoids walking in the mud; another part is unpaved and quite muddy. It would be helpful if the site provided rubber boots, as we saw at other lodges, since few people bring this type of bulky boot with them. We were able to observe a good variety of birds, but they were often high in the trees. It would be really great if this site installed a fruit feeder and hummingbird feeders, as we saw in several places, so that the birds would be easier to observe.

We saw tapirs! This is a remote, exciting place. The rooms are lovely. Food is good. Here’s the butterfly garden, beautiful past to hike fellas lost that have been rescued.

Poor check in with no bell man, had to carry our bags uphill further that two handicap seniors would have liked. No hot water in the morning, they kept saying it was going to be back on but never did by the time we checked out. Complained and they purchased us a breakfast for the inconvenience. Nice experience in the rainforest though

If you are elderly it is unsafe. The rooms are not inclosed so no heat or AC, the room was very small but the bed was comfortable, guess I didn’t do my research or they were vague on the conditions you were going to stay in. I saw only a few animals and the breakfast were not free. Nothing was climate controlled on the property. Then walking to your room or anywhere else was very slippery and steep.. Not a lot around either. We left early because it was pouring and I mean pouring rain. I couldn't get dry or warm and we were informed it wasn’t going to improve. But the time it wasn’t raining was nice.

This is a nice place to unwind for one or 2 nights. Rustic lodge, pillows and sheets need update. I like the gondola, you can really hear the trucks from the hwy. eventhough they are inside the forest.

You are out in the middle of a National Park. That is going to appeal to some and seem bad to others. There is one gift shop, one restaurant, etc., but I like getting to make friends with the staff and the scenery and unique beauty is what I came for.

Basic room in forest. Only seating is on porch. Some windows are glass, others screens. Even being a mile off the main highway, truck engines were louder than most insects. And you can sometimes hear snoring from other rooms.
Convenient location if you want to use the tram/zips or hike in the national park up the road.
Dining for dinner was pretty good, though only tried vegi pasta and steak. Breakfast was 7:30-9:30 and had several menu options including eggs or pancakes.
Birders seemed to find a lot of interesting birds. I only saw a few toucans.

Lots off green around, but the room was old and nothing inside 1 bed and 2 night table, no A/C a old ceiling fan moving humidity around the room. Even saying it is a Park you could listen to track using their Jacob Brake the whole time day and night. Cracking floor and a toilet you pray before flushing never know the result. And the restaurant forget it they don’t even have a bottle of Vodka to serve you a drink.

This place is so beautiful! If you are looking for a place away from everything , this is it. Rooms are clean, property is well maintained clean staff is so friendly. Some of the things I didn’t care for , was there is no way to get coffee first thing in the morning. Not everyone waits till 730 to get coffee . The other issue I had with the property is that it’s a one way road to get in and out. In the early morning and late at night they had nobody there to let you out. Reception should be there 24/7

Literally like camping in the jungle. Amazing experience. We saw so many animals within feet from our cottage. Rooms are very well ventilated with screens so AC is not needed but you need to be mindful that people can easily heard you talking in the neighboring cabins.

Love the jungle, disappointing room

Ok first the good: the location being in the middle of the jungle and on a ecological reserve is awesome. The jungle is amazing and it’s so fun to see all the cool wildlife. The staff was pleasant and friendly.

The bad: this was advertised as a nice, clean, quiet space and it was none of that. The lodge is right off of the main highway so you can hear big rigs breaking all night long! The room is adjoined to another room (unless you get the suite) so you are sharing a porch and windows with other guests! This means any sound they make, you can hear it and it interrupts the ambiance of the jungle noise! Plus when they smoked cigarettes on the porch the smoke went straight into our room. I am angry at all of this because it was $110 USD and only worth about $35 per night. Very disappointing.

Amazing place just off the main road but feels like being deep in the jungle. Bed and apartment was very comfortable and beautiful. They need two sets of pillows - one high and one low. The pillows were too high for my neck for a comfortable sleep. Apart from this the stay was perfect.

We had great service right from the start. A guide was assigned to us to help us throughout our two night stay. He was very knowledgeable about the area and was extrmely helpful in all matters.

The beds were comfortable. The water in the shower was either scalding hot or freezing cold. I never did geta shower there even though they tried ti fix it once. The rooms did not get cleaned on the second day. They brought in fresh towels and that was it.

My overall stay was only OK and I thought that the value for the price charged was low.

Awesome lodge in the heart of the rainforest.

We saw many tapirs, anteaters, ants, spiders, frogs, butterflies and toucans during our stay. It was so wonderful! Juan Miguel is incredibly knowledgeable about the rainforest and the animals that live there. We learned so much and had a delightfully comfortable stay in the Tapirus Lodge.

I went as a solo guest to this lodge and it was one of the best decisions I made during my 9 day trek of Costa Rica! Very fond memories of this beautiful place with so much to offer! Staff was extremely helpful and nice. Grounds and room are stunning and very well maintained. Food was excellent. Great way to start my first trip to Costa Rica! Highly recommend this place!!! Great tour; not much else

So, here's the deal. You get there, are transported to your room on a bus. You're hit up to do the various tours like ziplining and stuff along the way, then they escort you to the gift shop. And when you're there, they tell you absolutely no wandering off on your own. There is obviously concern about safety, which we get. But for us, we did home rentals throughout CR and went off on our own and explored without rules. If you want rules and a \"cruise ship\" rainforest experience, this is your place. If you want to explore on your own, don't come here.

Now, on the bright side, our nike walk with the guide was great. He's a true expert on the forest and went out of his way to show us frogs and other creatures at night.

Overall, I'd say if you're a family and a more typical tourist who wants typical tourist stuff, this is the place for you.

Odd. Cool.. but know what you are getting into.

This was an odd experience. We booked the Tapirus Lodge expecting a lodge like others we stayed at in Costa Rica. Little did we realize that there is no lodge to speak of. Rather, there are just five little duplex cabins the jungle, with very little in the way of amenities. We are surprised to learn that we just park our car at the highway lot and take a shuttle 1.5 km in to the camp. The shuttle stops at 4pm and it isn’t safe to walk in the dark (nor are you permitted to)... so after that you are bound to stay at your cabin with nothing to do. We were not permitted to walk anywhere without a guide, with led to the feeling we were trapped at summer camp with no privacy and no options. We didn’t realize were would be required to eat at the ‘restaurant’, which served lousy food (the eggplant was particular terrible) at the designated time of 6:30 (not included but the only option). The food was so bad in fact that we opted to skip dinner the next night and eat chips and salsa we picked up at a grocery store 20 min down the highway. After dinner, it was lights out at 9. Literally they turn the power off. On the plus side, the tapirs are cool. The zip lines are fun and where else do you get a tarantula outside your front door? This place would have been great if the price was lower and expectations were better outlined. It is more of an adventure hostel than a lodge. My husband and I would have enjoyed it, but had I known, I would have brought my parents to a place like this.

The location is complete inside the jungle with good restaurant and very helpful and friendly staff. We booked a zipline trip and got. as Hotel Guests 20% off and additional a free tour through the hummingbird-, frog- and butterfly-garden.

Tapirus Lodge, Guacimo, Costa Rica

We loved this place! Although we had planned to drive from San José directly to our rental house in the rain forest near Puerto Viejo, on the coast, a day before our departure we reconsidered. Best last minute decision ever! The drive from the capital to the Caribbean is really long and slow... after flying all day and realizing that it gets dark a little after five in December in Costa Rica, we were very happy to stop.
We were greeted by Miguel Delgado, a welcoming, accomplished guide there. After settling into our snug little cabin, he provided us with dinner and then took us on a long, amazing jungle walk in the dark. We realized that we would have walked right past everything he knew to look for: frogs, spiders, tapirs, snakes...
In the morning I went with him on a short walk; after a very nice breakfast, once again we adventured into the jungle, this time over the canopy. At the top of the gondola ride we hiked again, and after descending from this amazing experience continued hiking and learning from Miguel. We had another nice meal (all three meals, and the extraordinary guide service, comes with the price of your overnight stay) and were really sorry to have to leave.
We couldn't have had a better first experience, and want to be sure Miguel knows how much we valued his introduction to Costa Rica.

Mitten im Regenwald

Tolle Unterkunft mitten im Regenwald. Zimmer ist 1/2 einer Hütte mit Terasse. Großes Bett, kein Kühlschrank. Schöne Parkanlage, nettes Personal. Gute Frühstück im Restaurant wo man auch abends gut essen kann. Zufahrt über eine enge Privatstraße, die keinen Gegenverkehr erlaubt und deshalb per Funk geregelt wird. Angebote wie Führungen, ZIP-Line und Seilbahn sind direkt vor Ort. Seilbahnfahrt ist schön, aber sehr teuer. Wir würden wieder kommen.

Very nice place right next to the hiking trails . The restaurant staff was really nice (especially Carlos). The room was ok but badly soundproof (we heard the neighbor cough). We did the gondolas (tram), it was really beautiful but it’s really not worth the price ($66 US per person). Breakfast was included but only okay.
