We enjoyed every aspect of the lodge, from the room to the spa to the restaurant to the safari! The staff are genuinely kind and very helpful.

Unfortunate for us, a tropical cyclone moved in on just our second day and we were all forced to stay in and not go out on safari for our safety. The staff took such good care of us all, ensuring we were comfortable and cared for. While other lodges were closing and being evacuated, Kapama River Lodge did not miss a beat. In addition, they took in guests from other lodges and gave them the best experience possible.

I will say, we had such an incredible first two safaris, seeing so many animals and learning so much from our guides, that despite everything we still left fulfilled and happy!

I cannot wait to return to Kapama, and will be telling everyone who will listen about this amazing company!!

What a fantastic property right inside the game reserve with daily game drives to catch the big five. The food and service, including impeccable hospitality were the highlight of staying here. It’s a beautiful, luxurious modern property, right across the HDS airport. Highly recommend staying for atleast 2 nights ideally three!

Wow wow wow what an incredible experience!! Everything at River Lodge was just amazing, all of the staff are so friendly and the food is delicious, you get to pick from a set menu for each meal which changes each day and all drinks are included. The absolute highlight though is the safari itself, you get 2x 3 hour drives a day which go so quickly. Our guide Phillip and his tracker Kulani were absolutely incredible, they made sure we saw all the animals and got us really close to them. Phillip was so knowledgable and we loved having him as our guide, we got to see the big 5 several times and even a leopard cub! We had the best experience ever at River Lodge and highly recommend to anyone. We stayed 3 nights which was enough to see everything but we definitely didn’t want to leave!!

An amazing 4 days spent here. Every single member of staff went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. Thankyou to the Reception team for traxking down our lost luggage. Thank you to the Management team who recognised it was a special occasion for us both and the room upgrade was amazing, thank you. Food, Pools, Hospitality, everything was perfect. But, the best was Nevermind and Anzi who guided us on the game drives where we managed to see the Big 5 and more including Hyena on a kill, stealing it from an out numbered Leopard, and a Leopard dining on its earlier kill. They went out of their way to track the animals. A special Thankyou to both Nevermind and Anzi. We will certainly.be back in a couple of years.

This lodge was an amazing stay! They provide 2 safaris, one in the morning and one at night, as well as breakfast/lunch/dinner. The guides are fantastic at finding animals, and were very thoughtful on finding specific animals from the Big 5 that we haven’t seen. I would definitely stay here again!

Fantastic 5-star experience

Kapama met and surpassed all expectations we had for a 5-star game reserve. The staff were ever present to ensure your stay was as you wished, the facilities were clean and easily accessible, and the decor/architecture was outstanding. The highlight for us was the food, which was consistently delicious with a always that was always new and fresh for each meal sitting.

Memories to last a lifetime

Sometimes, the stars do align. And it is easier to align if the game reserve staff go above and beyond. This game reserve did exactly that. We celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary and decided on a whim to experience a game drive holiday. From the pickup at the airport to dropping off, our stay and experience here went far beyond our expectations.

What makes this game reserve stand out is the friendliness and attention to detail each staff have, and they striving to make us feel at home and welcomed.

The all inclusive stay has wonderful food and drinks. We stayed four nights and found it perfectly adequate to enjoy the two daily included game drives. We had the perfect guide and tracker, Edwin and Tokollo, whom we clicked well with, and sharing the vehicle with the cute couple David and Aggie too. Every game drive the six of us have together is wonderfully informative, funny and fun. Thank you both, Edwin and Tokollo for making this a perfect trip. Truly memories to last a lifetime.

If you are going to splurge on a safari, you might as well do it right and visit Kapama. They get to know each guest and pamper you, but the amazing staff also give you time and space to do your thing. Whether you want a romantic retreat, epic family vacation or a friend’s get-away, Kapama is an awesome spot. It is where I’ll take all my visitors who make the long journey to Southern Africa to come see me.

We stayed here for our honeymoon. Words cannot describe how we feel about Kapama River Lodge.

This place is unbelievable. I’ve stayed at many 5* hotels, but this lodge is far more superior than any of them. The team are AMAZING, Azaria and Milton, our ranger and tracker were unbelievable and so committed to help us track down what we wanted.

Kulani the waiter was an absolute delight. Not a single day did I ever see him not smiling.

The housekeeping team would make the rooms up three times a day. For our first night, they even got a hot bubble bath ready for my wife before we got back from dinner.

To top it all off, the food is outstanding. I have never tasted food at any hotel, lodge or boutique this good, ever. Over our 4 days we were stuffed. We’ve never been offered so much food before and there’s a LOT of variety.

We felt sad to leave as it felt we were leaving our family behind.

All in all, if you’re doing a safari, and have any doubt on where to go or stay, choose Kapama. They will do absolutely everything they can to make your stay with them as good as it can get.

I was very disappointed by the room and the cleaning service, I expected better. The turndown was also a disappointment as they did not even go extra mile for my birthday yet we paid extra change for it. Our bed was as if it was made by a 9 year old baby, the room was dirty throughout our stay yet the cleaner came back very day. The only thing we enjoyed was the restaurant and game drive.

Kapama was amazing! The staff were awesome and so helpful and worked to give their guests the best experience. The facility was clean and so beautiful. I’d highly recommend Kapama river lodge, we had an absolutely perfect stay and have nothing negative to review. I had indicated I was vegetarian upon booking under dietary restrictions, upon arrival the chef immediately sought me out to ask about food and every meal the kitchen management checked in to make sure I had enough to eat, despite there being plenty, they even made me my own veggie boards for lunch. All the stuff went above and beyond and were so friendly. The guide and tracker we had for the safari drives were so personable and made sure we saw everything we wanted to see, saw all big 5 and more. Wonderful

Excellent game drives and service. Staff are great. My family and I really enjoyed our stay. However, WiFi doesn’t work in the room and the food is average. Also, you can’t make local phone calls using the phone in the room. You’ll have to go to the lobby and ask the front desk to make the calls for you. Overall, I’d still recommend this place :).

The best part of the trip was our game drives with our guide and tracker.

The worse part was the room and service elsewhere. The rooms are very dated, definitely not luxury. Our bed was rock hard, our door was thin and the room was extremely noisy due to hallway sounds. The resort didn't feel peaceful, it was overcrowded and often loud. We wouldn't say this was a relaxing experience. The service at meals was spotty - often times we weren't even shown to our table and one night we weren't offered the first course of soup. I was once reprimanded for helping myself by pouring water from a pitcher into my glass at dinner. The staff member who scolded me acted as if she was rushing to do it herself when most nights she barely even took our wine order. Not luxury service, not even Olive Garden level of service.

The spa pool area was nice but the actual service used subpar ingredients and not the ones mentioned on the spa menu. Definitely not worth the money. We regret not staying with a slightly pricier lodge at Sabi Sands. We would've gotten to see better animals, with more experienced guides, and better service.

Game drives were top notch. That’s the main reason to go, and well worth it for that. Common areas are nice but it’s so big that it can’t help but feel corporate and most interactions, though all the staff are very professional, feel kind of forced and phony. Buffet food was plentiful and varied but not very exciting. More of a guided experience — decide for yourself whether that’s what you want or something more flexible.

Kapama River Lodge is absolutely amazing. The service is top notch - from the ranger and tracker to the housekeeping and waiters. The lodge is luxurious, with a beautiful spa and several nice common areas to relax in between drives. The private game reserve gives you the ability to get up close to the animals. I can’t recommend Kapama highly enough. Book your trip now!

Our stay was excellent and was the highlight of our holiday in South Africa. Our guide Mark was exceptional and took us on 6 excellent game drives that were always different and he went out of his way to try and show everyone the big 5. I was amazed at how close we got to some of the animals and the morning coffee stop with the giraffes was amazing. Our tracker Conrad was a nice guy and always brought his excellent home made cakes for our morning coffee stop! Our waiter Joel was always very friendly and cheerful. We were very sad to leave!

Reception staff was not pleasant especially the lady on duty in the evening on March 26th. We paid a lot of money for a suite and two rooms and we were not able to get on free bush walking tour. In addition, the paid activities such as interactions with the elephants ran at this same time as safari. We signed up for the paid activity and we lost the free activity: safari. We had outstanding safari team: Gerard(ranger) and Jeffery(tracker). Food was good and plenty of it.
The room charge for two people is fair considering what is included, however, the cost for three people is very steep for a suite which should be adjusted down.

Highlight of our honeymoon

My husband and I stayed for three nights and had such a fantastic time! The lodge was beautiful, our room spacious, staff helpful, and the food was really good ! Our ranger Zaan and tracker Philip were great and we saw the Big 5 within 2 drives.

A two to three night stay would be more than enough time if safari is your only goal. Otherwise the pool is nice to hang out by.

We went to the spa one morning after our morning drive & breakfast. We booked the “detox and destress moor hydrobath”, the baths were so neat to hang out in ( wish it was for 45mins rather than 30, but only because it was super nice) and followed with the best massage either one of us has had.

On our final night we booked the “ Romantic Sleep-out in Kapama Game Reserve”. Wow. The pictures on the Kapama website do not do justice to what a unique and magical experience this is. While quite expensive, ZAR 8900 on top of what you pay for a room, this is a highlight we will never forget.

Overall the experience at Kapama was great. Would recommend to family and friends. It was a bargain for the money. Food and excursions were spot on and the premises were lovely to be on. My only trivial critique would be the lack fastidious service and some of the staff were both very friendly and accommodating while some members were a bit lackidazical. But I think that was situational.

Amazing Safari Experience

We loved our stay at Kapama. The lodge is really nice, it's the perfect combination of safari and relax. It is located inside Kapama Private Game Reserve, so your hotel fee already includes 2 game drives per day. They have everything organized so that as soon as you get there, you know who your ranger will be. The game drives were amazing, we got to see the Big 5 (special thanks to our experienced ranger Freedom), plus many more animals. Additionally, the hotel facilities (pool + spa) are perfect if you want some days of full relax. The price may seem a little bit high, but it's totally worth it. Would recommend it to anyone looking for a great safari experience.

Every part of this hotel was fabulous. We saw plenty of game animals (excluding cheetah and leopard) and our driver and spotter went above and beyond to get us up and close to the animals. There was plenty of delcious and fresh food even though it was a buffet, high standards were kept throughout. Staff were friendly and even our cleaner Mphephe new and remembered our names, which is a first! Spa is definitely worth a visit for the treatments and the private pool. I would highly recommend this hotel.

We just returned from a 3 night stay at Kapama River Lodge. Our safaris were excellent and we were lucky to see all of the Big Five, including the elusive Leopard.Our ranger and tracker were excellent and it was fun having dinner with our ranger every night. We were able to discuss the day's game drives in detail with him at dinner and it was a fun bonding experience with our fellow game drive mates. Our room was a spa suite and was lovely, and very clean. My only complaint was a little mold in the shower. One of our sinks didn't drain but when I mentioned it at the front desk it was fixed immediately. Food was okay. Not as great as Cape Town or the Wine Country but fine. It worried me that cold food items on the buffet were not on ice or any type of chilling. I stayed away from mayonnaise based salads etc.but it was very hot out and I thought cold dishes should be chilled in some way. Overall we had a wonderful experience and I think Kapama River Lodge is a good value. I would recommend to friends.

Overall the staff was great and Location was amazing. Our safari driver Edward and Collen were the best. Extremely knowledgeable about the terrain and animals. The hotel food was average at best. The beds however were not as comfortable as you would imagine for the price. It felt like a brick.

We stayed only one night at this beautiful lodge, as we had a reservation at another property within the reserve, but it was more than enough to make our stay truly memorable.

Upon arrival, we enjoyed a beautiful and delicious lunch — the food was excellent and the service, outstanding. Afterwards, we went on our first game drive in a private vehicle, which, in my opinion, makes all the difference. During this very first drive, we were lucky enough to see all of the Big Five — an incredibly exciting experience.

Back at the lodge, we had a very enjoyable dinner as well. In fact, the food throughout our stay was consistently excellent. The rooms are superb — very comfortable and seemingly new or recently renovated. The shower is great, and the bed is extremely comfortable.

The following morning, we went on another game drive, which was just as beautiful. We saw many animals again, except for the leopard, which seems to be the most elusive.

After returning, we went straight to breakfast, which was abundant and delicious, with a wide variety of buffet options. Later, we enjoyed a massage at the spa, which features a beautiful pool. Unfortunately, the weather was cloudy and quite cold, so we couldn’t fully enjoy the outdoor area.

We really liked the lodge. As we were on our honeymoon, we chose to stay just one night to experience it. One thing to note is that the lodge is somewhat larger than others in the reserve, with more rooms and groups. For those seeking a more intimate

O Boma foi bom, ótimas carnes no fogo, porém faltou uma decoração, a música, a representação da cultura local. Teria criado uma experiência especial. O Kapama poderia fazer noites com algum entretenimento mostrando a cultura da região.

Não tenho palavras para expressar o tamanho de nossa satisfação por ter ficado no Kapama River Lodge. Tudo, simplesmente TUDO foi feito para pensar no conforto e bem estar do hóspede! A ternura e o carinho de todos (sem exceção) nos deixaram abismados! Nunca fomos tratados tão bem! A estrutura do local, a arquitetura, o conforto… tudo é perfeito! As refeições (pratos elaborados minuciosamente e feitos com perfeição) foram outro ponto alto da estadia. Não poderia de mencionar nosso guia Lans que fez dos nossos games/safaris uma atração a parte e não poderíamos ter encontrado um guia melhor! Não poderia deixar de mencionar a funcionária do restaurante Remember… como o próprio nome dela significa, lembrarei para sempre do modo como nos atendeu em cada refeição!

De um lado é o aeroporto de Hoedspruit e do outro já é o Kapama. O local é lindo, bem cuidado e com funcionários extremamente gentis e preocupados com o seu bem estar o tempo todo. Menção especial ao Ranger Katekani e Tracker Blessing. Come-se bem e com belas paisagens. Tivemos uma lua de mel muito boa por lá e conseguimos ver os big 5. Dias inesquecíveis.

Hospedagem fantástica e safari inesquecível

Tivemos uma experiência incrível no Kapama River Lodge durante nossa estadia de quatro noites. Desde a chegada, fomos recebidos com extrema hospitalidade e o serviço impecável se manteve durante toda a viagem. O quarto era espaçoso e confortável, as refeições variadas e saborosas.

Os safáris foram inesquecíveis! Conseguimos ver os Big Five e muitos outros animais de perto, guiados por uma equipe experiente que tornava cada saída emocionante. Vussi e Ringo foram excepcionais.

Sem dúvida, foi uma das melhores viagens que já fizemos e recomendamos para todos que buscam um safári inesquecível.

Un séjour exceptionnel

Séjour magnifique dans la réserve naturelle de Kapama. L’accueil et la qualité de service étaient impeccables. La chambre était spacieuse et la literie est très confortable. Des animaux sauvages passaient devant notre balcon, des kudus et des impalas. Un phacochère est venu nous dire bonjour pendant que nous prenions notre petit déjeuner sur la terrasse du restaurant.

Un Grand Merci à notre guide Rassie pour sa gentillesse, sa disponibilité et pour les aventures que nous vécues ensemble lors des games drives. Il nous a fait découvrir la réserve et nous a dévoilé certains mystères de la vie sauvage. Le fait de regarder les animaux sauvages comme les lions, les rhinocéros, les girafes, les buffles et pleins d’autres dans leur milieu naturel était impressionnant.
