The property looked great, we were in the newer annex which is plain outside but the rooms have a Route 66 theme were excellent. The only issue was the TV didn't initially work, we had to call twice for them to come fix it, which was a quick fix. However, at 4AM the TV turned itself on (volume only no screen) and would not turn off. We muted it so we could sleep. In the morning when we wanted to watch the news the volume was still on and when you selected the channel you wanted it played both audios! Needless to say we couldn't catch the news. Additionally, the hotel is close to the railway and a crossing so there were train horns all night long. Also some gearheads were racing up and down Route 66 in front of the hotel till after 11PM so it was a bit hard to sleep.

Where do I even start. The elevator was not working so we had to carry all of our bags up stairs. The floor in the room looked like it hadn't been cleaned since 1937. The bathroom was the size of a coat closet with no room to even turn around. When we checked in, we were informed that there was no AC, only heat. We had to open the windows in our room for air but the windows faced the street so it was very loud. The beds we the worst though. Honestly a piece of plywood would have been more comfortable to sleep on.

One goes to El Rancho to soak up the ambiance of the place where movie stars stayed. It delivers that - the decor of the Old West and lots of photos of stars and movie scenes. Because it’s true to that, rooms are smaller than we’re accustomed to - one can barely turn around in the bathroom- and things like an antiquated elevator (you open gate and door manually) can slow down folks in their 80s and 90s. The shower was great for size and water pressure, but no grab bars. We enjoyed sitting in very comfortable chairs on the second floor mezzanine looking around and down at all the photos and memorabilia. Breakfast was good- spicy green chili on the huevos rancheros, but slow in arriving. This was our most expensive motel, won’t need to go again, but glad we did.

Our room,205 I think, was disappointing. It was very strange. We asked for king bed, which we got, but it was tucked into a corner so tight that there was no way for my wife to get out of the bed without crawling over me. There were no side tables and there was no headboard and no lights overhead. The place is kind of iconic, but I don’t think we’d stay there again.

This.was a nice place to stay. It was very clean. It has a very small bathroom if you need space. The one thing that I didn’t like was that we could not use the heater and it was cold. My husband takes blood thinners so it was inconvenient for him. I don’t really understand why it was like that. One restaurant employee was rude also so we left the restaurant and went somewhere else. I have been told that there are haunted rooms but we didn’t encounter any thing like that.

Enjoyed the charm & history, which is the reason I booked this hotel. My only complaint about our room is that the bathroom was too small. You could almost use the sink while using the toilet. The water pressure was weak in the shower.
We enjoyed our cocktails and the food was decent. Our waitress could have done better, however.

I picked the amnex bldg not knowing that in April they had already switch to their \"summer\" cooling which meant there was not heating and only AC for the room so the room was very cold at night. Other than the cold room, it like the decorand restaurant food was good.

We reserved this property because of the 9.2 rating on Expedia. We don’t mind historic properties and enjoyed the memorabilia throughout but the room and especially the bathroom did not live up to the description of “deluxe king”. The bathroom was so small you could sit on the toilet and wash your hands in the sink at the same time. The fan for the air/heat turned on and off every few minutes making sound sleep impossible. Our waitress for dinner was a bright spot but the food was disappointing. I am a very positive person but can’t give this experience an overall thumbs up.

This property was over-hyped in my opinion. Kitschy due to history of former actors that stayed there. Fireplace on 1st level was always full so no place to sit and enjoy. The smoke from the fireplace on the 2nd floor was awful. Room was nothing special, in fact you had to leave the bathroom door open to dry from your shower the space was so small. Restaurant was nothing special. Food was adequate, but staff was short and forgot about us repeatedly, especially at breakfast then next morning as we had the breakfast included in our price of the room. All in all it did not meet my expectations.

Hotel was good! Newly renovated it looked goo, price for the rooms was good. Large TVs , nicely decorated.

Only reason 4 not 5 , restaurant food needs to be better. Missing flavor. Mattress needs to be more comfortable. We stayed at the annex and the noise from the streets as expected was noisy. Walls seems to be really thin, like old motel converted into this building. Also no onsite laundry.

We stayed in The Annex, a property next to the hotel itself. The room had no heat, was very noisy with traffic and a loud mechanized pump or something that turned on loudly throughout the night. The parking lot is patrolled by security, I suppose due to the lingering homeless population. Would not recommend The Annex, but the main property seemed very nice.

The staff of El Rancho were amazingly kind and helpful. I had no idea that a hotel/motel like this existed. For anyone who loves old movies, this is a must see! I could not have been more pleased to have spent the night. The decor, the autographed photos, the memorabilia were a welcome reprieve from the road.

Room temperature over two-day stay varied from 58 to 62 degrees fahrenheit. The nighttime temperatures were below 40 degrees. When I requested heat in the room (twice), the staff unconcernedly advised that the heat was shutdown for the summer and there were no space heaters.
If your idea of a comfortable hotel room temperature is less than 60 degrees and you don't mind an unresponsive staff, you might like this hotel. Never again for me.

Loved this funky quirky historical hotel! You walk into an absolute Western saga. You can still feel the debauchery!!! Our room was a lovely clean quiet room. Great cotton linens, squeaky clean. The restaurant was fantastic. Our bartender, Elliot, made an incredible margarita- seriously, the best this Texas gal has ever tasted. We ate both dinner and breakfast here. Ask about the Secret Room. If traveling to or thru Gallup, stay here.

This property was such a wonderful surprise! We had no idea when we booked that it was filled with so much nostalgia, history, and unique movie memorabilia, it made the experience even more special. The rooms are charming, and the beds are incredibly comfortable, which made it easy to relax after a long day. The on-site restaurant was also fantastic. If you’re someone who appreciates history and character, you will absolutely love this hotel!

Stayed in the annex building next door as the main lodge was booked. It was clean, which is a top priority, but the noise was a negative for me. It’s right on the highway and the walls are very thin. Maybe the main lodge would be better for someone who prefers more quiet. It was a convenient place for us to stop for one night in between Sedona and Santa Fe.

We stayed with two connecting rooms (bridal suite) and wished there were two bathrooms. Beds were a little hard and pillows were thin. Not the best sleep. Rooms were nice, hotel was very enjoyable with history and ambiance. Burgers at restaurant were fantastic, service was sloooow. Would stay again, but probably skip diner.

Calling the staff and the service at the restaurant lack luster is like putting lipstick on a pig. The greeting desk response was a poor at best. What a great hotel. We were just passing through and looking for a hotel on our way to the Grand Canyon, and happened to stumble upon this amazing piece of Americana. If you're even remotely nostalgic, or interested in route 66 or the history of 50s Westward expansion, it was 10 out of 10. You'll make minor sacrifices (at least to the snooty lot I travel with), like a small shower, but the traffic noise is lower than most modern hotels, the place is super clean and all in all, I loved it and the kids thought it was a blast.

The deluxe king room was anything but. Ive seen bigger bathrooms in an RV. No ac meant we had to keep windiw open all night with inherant smells and noise. The property is fun, but we were dusappointed in the qwuality of accomodations.
