We are glad we stayed here for one night on our Route 66 road trip. The hotel is unique and a great place to do something different. Our bed and pillows were comfortable. The room is on the smaller size but the bathroom is very small with low water pressure for the shower. The lobby and 2nd floor is great to hang out and walk around and look at all the memorabilia. There are some rocking chairs on the 2nd floor porch. Unfortunately the view is of the parking lot. There is a nice patio/garden type area next to the entrance of the hotel. It seems this space is underutilized . It would be so nice to have a margarita cart / bar or a wine cart set up for guests for happy hour . There seems to be an area where a band could play and a bar set up. That would be so fun if they set some entertainment up and a place for guests to gather for an hour or two. They seem to be spending so much effort on making sure there is a huge store for a shopping experience versus making it more of a social experience. Why not feature the positive. The 49er lounge is definitely a place to gather and listen to some music and we enjoyed utilizing that bar to have drinks. When we checked in the employee said our breakfast was not included. I mentioned I thought it was. She did not double-check. I found my booking receipt later and had to go back and prove to her. She gave us our voucher for a limited breakfast menu. Service was very slow in the restaurant. Find the secret room ! Hint; Book.

It's kitschy and cute and that's why I booked the stay. Overall staff dud am amazing job in keeping what could be clean in the rooms clean. Shower, , toilet, , sinks etc were clean but the carpets were stained, torn and had an odor. The drapes were dusty with dead moths scattered near the windows. This is an investment in maintenance issue really more than an issue of staff not keeping up. Fir example the windows were not sealed... probably how the bugs get in and carpet replacement should be considered for the rooms. Also the air-conditioning in my room was broken, got a new room and same issue. It was hot during the day 84° in my room with the air conditioning on. Then at night the eoom went down to 65° and the heat wouldn't kick on. I discovered enjoy the El rancho restaurant on site and the gift shops.

My younger son loved the pool, and the older one liked the fitness center. They thought the hotel was cool, and it is, great history, the hidden room, my son loved. The restaurant is nice. I just didn’t know, or pay attention when I booked, thought we were staying in the main building, with the celebrities names on the doors, but I guess I booked the “annex building” off to the side of the main building. I didn’t know that was there, thought it was just the main building, so we went to the annex and our rooms A/C didn’t work, but they moved us to another room. Next time I will be sure to check that I’m getting the main building

Great nostalgic hotel along Rt. 66. Very clean, fun memorabilia and a nice restaurant onsite, with a bar. Make sure when booking you pay attention to the hotel vs motel, as they do have both. The hotel has all the old 40s 50s Hollywood photos, memorabilia, etc.

They advertise as pet friendly, charge for your pet as most hotels do but do not provide any pet relief area! Told us to go to the park? Or up a block to a vacant lot.

Property very unique. Room was clean. No outside adult beverages allowed, have to buy theirs, which of course are marked up. No fridge in the room. Only stayed a short night so didn’t get to explore the whole place. Security on-site so the property felt safe, apparently not so much at night off-property. Food at restaurant was slightly better than average, and a bit pricey. The elevator was a trip back in time.

This is one of the most charming American hotels we've ever stayed at. The recently renovated rooms are comfortable, well decorated, and small, like they were designed to be back in the 1930s so that you could spend time in the spacious and beautiful lobby and outdoor terrace areas, socializing with your fellow travelers, which is exactly what we did. The dinner and breakfast were delicious too. Be sure to order your breakfast when booking your room -- it was a great value. The staff was friendly and helpful and I'm so happy that after many years of "driving by" we finally got to spend the night in Gallup at the historic El Rancho Hotel. I truly felt like we were stepping back in time. I'd like to thank the third generation owners of this hotel (whose grandfather saved it from the wrecking ball back in 1987) for keeping the El Rancho alive and thriving. If you care about preserving small town American treasures like this hotel, support them by staying here. It's a win-win situation and a real treat!

An absolute must stay if you’re travelling along Route 66. The theming is incredible and we couldn’t stop taking photos of the property because it’s so striking. The rooms are on the small side but kept clean and tidy. Surprisingly the shower enclosure is massive in comparison with the rest of the room.

The only issue we had was the restaurant attached to the hotel. The wait time for food was extremely long and food quality poor. We complained to our server who was apologetic and offered a discount which actually never came. Rather than escalate we just paid the check full price and left. I didn’t want to spoil the experience of the hotel by taking the complaint further. All I can offer to future travellers is to say enjoy the hotel but choose to eat outside of the hotel.

Also the hotel has a surprisingly well equipped gym which I wasn’t even aware existed.

The rooms are fine. Small but functional no fridge no microwave. I ate at the restaurant twice that day. The chili Rellenos were different , crispy. The green chili cheeseburger was very good. On Sundays most of the Mexican restaurants in town are closed.

This is a classic Route 66 hotel, we enjoyed our stay there very much. The only negative was that we were there in early May and they had not switched on the air-conditioning yet so our room was a bit warm. The staff was great and they have a good restaurant and bar. This is a must stay if you are driving Route 66.

The kitschy charm of the old hotel was a nice change from cookie-cutter roadside lodging. The hotel staff did not help us with our bags, go into detail about the history of the hotel but the history is well documented all over the walls. The restaurant/bar was fun, even though the bartenders/servers were not in any rush, the food was good and there’s a hard 4-drink maximum. The one treadmill they had was Out of Order, and there was armed security on premises. Overall, I’m glad I saw all the history and was a fun change from typical lodging.

This is an iconic hotel on Route 66. We arrived late, we were very tired from traveling all day. The hotel is very busy. They were accommodating, we had an issue at the restaurant with seating. The restaurant manager came out and was very nice and seated us and made sure we had everything we needed. They were busy but many tables were available, but would not let us sit down initially. They have a very old elevator and you have to pull very hard to open it. This hotel is decorated beautifully. So iconic. They have a nice restaurant, a gorgeous Ortega gift store. The rooms are small but nicely decorated. The bathroom is tiny. I mean tiny. The AC wasn’t working well and the room got very warm in the night. There is no fridge in the room. And, our room never got cleaned so we had to go down and get towels and coffee and bring it to the room, make the bed, etc. the carpet in the room was quite dirty.

Me and my husband enjoyed our stay. Our room was comfortable and clean. The bed was soft and we both slept well. I mentioned to him this morning, how quiet it was all night and this morning. Much different from home. We both were happily surprised by the quietness. The bathroom was very small! However, it was as such to keep to the originally of the hotel, which we both appreciated.
The staff were all very pleasant and friendly. The restaurant was nice. Food was okay. We hope to make this a destination we can spend more time at in the future.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at El Rancho! We stayed in the old part of the hotel where the rooms are named after movie stars who stayed in them. The room was cleverly decorated to fit the theme. The halls are also filled with photos of movie stars who stayed there .The lobby and sitting area is spectacularly appointed with a Western theme and interesting artifacts. We took an interesting and informative tour of the hotel with Leroy who told us a lot about it's history. Don't forget to try to find the book in the bookcase that opens the door to secret room if you stay there!

We enjoyed this landmark hotel. We were told it was prom so the local traffic was a bit noisy. Staff was courteous and helpful. They had not changed over to air conditioning yet but brought us large fans for our rooms. That turned out okay. The restaurant was very busy and we had a bit of a wait. That gave us some time to check out the great gift shop. Our food was delicious and wait staff friendly.

I can't say enough great things about this hotel. The whole vibe is classic Hollywood Western and warm and friendly. The staff was delightful. It feels ageless from the era of real cowboys to Hollywood cowboys to a fun place to pretend got be a Hollywood Cowboy now. The room came with a lasso and cowboy hat. The decor in the rooms and everywhere was fantastic. We had the best time.

I found the stay (1 night, Deluxe King sized bed main building) generally excellent. The hotel is profusely decorated with mainly memorabilia from the American West and the Golden Age of Hollywood-a lot of cast and crew stayed at the hotel while filming on nearby locations. I was in the Gregory Peck room-decorated with materials specifically from him and his movies made nearby.
The room was very clean and had basically everything needed, although this room did not have a mini fridge, so bring a cooler if you need things kept cold. The room was pretty small, fine for me as a solo traveler but two persons in the room would have to get along well. The hotel was renovated about 5 years ago, and the shower was really nice. It did require a bit of squeezing past the toilet to get to it, so if you have mobility challenges you might request an accessible room.
The only negative (I think it really only affects visitors during seasonal changes), is that the main building in which my room was located, has an older style HVAC system, in which the heat and AC have to be switched over for the whole building. It was on heat yesterday, and my room was 80+ degrees when I checked in. The only option was to get a fan from the front desk, and open a window, which had no screen. So I just went to dinner early and hung out in the lobby until about 730 pm, after which the room was fine.
The staff throughout were very pleasant and friendly, and the room was very quiet at night. I would stay again!
