This is my first time in ChiangMai in the last ten years. I just need to get off the rush hours, office hours routine and get relaxed.

Starting the day with a great breakfast which provides a lot of options (American, and Asian style). I mean the variety of flavors and healthy foods. Then, take an easy bike ride around the garden for your digestion. Anything you can imagine is all in this amazing botanical garden. After that, get back to the room and stay calm with plenty of space, but just for a short moment because the swimming pool was attracting me since I checked in. Just a few steps away from the room, i can jump into the pool and enjoy the sun.

There is a Thai massage room which i hope i could try it next time. Everything is ready for you inside the hotel if you read until this and just want to get away from the city life. Here is one of the best places you should visit.

I will definitely be back next time for my annual vacation. Appreciate for the great services from all staffs and owners.

Excellent stay, spectacular botanical gardens seen via the free tram ride. Wow to the beauty and upkeep of the village! Shower was cold but the bathroom sink had hot water ! Want to bring my family some day .

So the botanical garden is lovely and well worth a visit. The animal enclosures not so good very small. The hotel is well equipped but the staff seem disorganised and badly managed in the lobby area. The luxury room was not distinct enough from the standard rooms to make any considerable difference and the balconys are small and hardly worth it with no seats or table. The food was ok. Room service is only 2 pm till 8pm so not much use to normal people as room service is something usually used after hours not during. Would we stay again, from a platinium members opinion no we would visit the botanical gardens which is 86 baht entrance fee and stay in a different hotel. We asked for an extra bowl with our room service meal and where charged 60 baht for a paper bowl hardly the service expected for renting a luxury room. The hotel grounds are clean the rooms are a little dated but clean. The cleaning staff seem organised. The hotel pools are not sutible for children the shallowest we found was 1.00m and the slide was based in the deep end at 1.80m. The hotel seems more geared towards large tour groups rather than the individual customer

Beautiful setting, lots of gardens. Air conditioning even in the bathrooms. Friendly staff. Delicious breakfast buffet. We had a great stay, just wish we could have stayed longer.

Location : 4.5, Atmosphere: 4.5 Room 3.8, Staff: 3.4, Food 3.3 All out of 5.
As seeing the reviews of other travellers I decide to stay here seeking quiet time and I did get. The place is surrounded by beautiful gardens and really quiet and I was lucky hardly anybody I could see even in the resort though there were people. The Botanical garden next door is also wonderful place to walk round.
The reception staff were not so smiling but they were kind enough to help whatever we requested for.
I stayed in a room with bathtub. The room looked a bit old but clean. Though veranda was there it was small and no chairs to sit.
Food was nothing special or rather not so tasty but okay. There were many items and some of them changed daily. Especially I am disappointed with coffee.

Fabulous retreat

We selected this place to 'get away' and that's what we did. Unless you want to pay, you're not getting back to town soon (although the hotel did pick us up and take us back to the railway station for free). It is beautiful as it's set in a botanical garden. The room we were in was a bit old and tired, but had a good bed and once we adjusted to the totally Thai decor, learned to enjoy it. The balcony overlooked some maintenance shed and waterfowl housing so it wasn't too beautiful to gaze on, but I found myself watching the ducks! The pool was almost private as there were few guests and right outside our door. Breakfast was good and varied. If we need to 'escape' again, we'll head here!! Oh, the evening restaurant we thought was very untasty, a surprise in Thailand. We learned to take our lives into our hands and run across the highway to a local shack that served delicious food for 1/3 the price. There were mosquitos so I would suggest taking spray or something. The desk tried to help by giving us some creme in an individual packet, but it didn't help.

My favorite hotel in Thailand

This place was by far our favorite hotel that we stayed at in Thailand. We will always remember it. One of the best parts is their restaurant. Be sure to order one of their fruit shakes. We found out later that these shakes are served everywhere in Thailand but they were never as good as the ones we had here. The grounds are HUGE with a museum, mini zoo, ponds, and different types of gardens. The only downside is that it is far away from Chiang Mai. They have a shuttle that leaves once or twice a day downtown and once or twice to come back but the one in the evening meets around 10pm. One thing we learned in Thailand is that if your hotel is 20-30 minutes away, taxi's really don't like to take you back. Other than that this place was so amazing.

Horizon is far from the city of Chiang Mai. It is a quiet and peaceful place. Unless you have your own transport, sightseeing is not convenient at all. The room I was given is very spacious. Shower is hot and water pressure is powerful. There is a gym near the reception. Guests use free of charge but the reception has to be informed ahead. Tweechol Botanic Gardens is just behind the hotel. Guests can go there anytime Free of charge, too.

Nice friendly hotel

We were met at the airport & transported back at the end of our stay. The room was good though the aircon was hard to control as it got too cold during the night & it was too warm to not have air moving so reverted to switching it to air only once we retired. Breakfast was good, the staff went out of their way to meet our dietry problems. However, the evening meal was so slow it took 3/4 of an hour just to get desert which was straight off the menue, we were first seated & nearly last to leave. The afternoon reception staff had trouble understanding my basic english, sorry I do not speak Thai, I did not have this trouble in Singapore or Europe.

Relaxing environment, spacious room, good service

- we arrive the airport in the evening and the hotel provided free pick-up service. They also drove up to the bus terminal after checkout, that's cool.
- 30min drive away from town, but they provide free shuttle to night bazaar everyday. Go out at 10:30 or 18:30 and return at 22:00. Its just a mini van with around 10seats. Better to book in advanced.

- the resort is very spacious, you can tour around the gardens and mini zoo. The staff can drive u around with a tuk tuk.

- we stayed on upper floor at Horizon 3. room is spacious too. But you can hear noise from the neighbors easily, especially when the Chinese tour group go out early in the morning and come back late at night. Quite disturbing.
At the last night of our stay, the weird noise from the gecko in the room made us couldnt fall asleep. We called the front desk for help the staff came and caught it very soon. Very much appreciated.

- good variety for breakfast, egg station, rice and noodle, sausage, some meat and vegie, toast, fruits and salad. But the restaurants is in an open space with some insects flying around. We didnt touch any food without cover (e.g. fruits). Please put a net to cover that, or prepare it on request.

- the other restaurant serves lunch and dinner at affordable price (though it's really cheap to eat at town)

Not bad but out of the way

Lovely surroundings and greenery but the overall facilities never been a 4* resort 3 at a push. Food options poor and nowhere onsite to buy anything like supermarket etc. Ok if staying purely for a conference but 45 mins from old town so if you want to do any temple hoppping or visit site not the place to stay. Staff were pretty grumpy and definitely not used to having kids.

Very nice hotel, pool and gardens

This resort is very nice and quiet. Gardens and rooms are beautiful. The breakfast is very complete with a lot of options. We enjoyed our stay here a lot, Chiang Mai has a lot to offer and we'd have stayed a few days more. The only disadvantage is that this hotel is a little far from the city downtown (30 min by car), but we rented hotel+car at a very convenient price.

The staff were all so friendly and helpful. My rollaway bed was broken and they replaced it right away, the staff even brought fruit basket and fresh coconut later on as a kind gesture. Really appreciated it.
Loved the huge garden/zoo, we took a tram and it took about 30 minutes to go around the garden. Loved the restaurants and the food was excellent, all organic and no MSG. The breakfast buffet was great. Wi-Fi was great, could be used anywhere in the property.
The staff will give you a ride on the golf cart if you need to go anywhere in the property. They had free shuttle from the airport and also to and from night bazaar.

A little downside is that the room is a little small and decoration/flooring gives an older feeling.

Overall, we had a lovely stay at the hotel. We'll definitely come back again next time.

Disappointing stay

My daughter and I actually moved to a different hotel after 2 nights in Horizon. Though the grounds are beautiful, the place is way below standards. The staff don't speak English and are unable to provide any assistance except hiring a cab to Chiang Mai (30$ round trip!). The food in the only available restaurant is average and the service is poor. Pool chairs are super uncomfortable, so you can't really spend more than 30 minutes at the pool. On top of that there is no bar or even water available in the pool area. There is no lobby lounge, are you kidding me? They provide one free bottle of water a day which is ridiculous in the tropics. Overall my worst experience with hotels.

One of the best hotels I've stayed

A truly unbelievable hotel,can not believe the Horizon Village resort is only 4*,I have stayed in 5 star hotels that don't even come close to this resort & the service(and the price..Wow...I payed £28 a night for a deluxe room over looking a lake).I booked with 3 friends for 3 nights and stayed 8 as we had to get back to Bangkok but could of stayed 3 weeks and some if time had allowed.There is so much to do here,mini zoo,boating lake,amazing vast gardens & lakes just to name a few.Will Defiantly be back.

Extremely disappointed with our stay. Booked through Expedia and it was very far from everything. Had to pay extra for a tour because of the hotel distance. There was a shuttle Into town but you had limited times available. Breakfast was disappointing. Not a great selection. We had 3 geckos in our room that were so loud. Never felt welcomed by the staff. Would not recommend to family or friends.

Could be an excellent resort has potential

Could be a great resort but it's lacking tlc on the grounds. Boards were rotted on several walk ways pealing paint ect. Service was so so could be better. Breakfasts were hit and miss one day great one day average. The pool was wonderful and relaxing. Room was nice the air condition was great the only thing bad was the bed very thai style super hard.

Exquisite Garden Setting

The grounds are absolutely the most amazing and best of any hotel or resort we have ever stayed in. Beyond the expected pool and restaurants, which were lovely, there is a small zoo, a very large children's playground, and a huge number of playful topiaries ranging from big dinosaurs to bunnies and flying birds. There are also various gardens, including orchid and even cactus! Plus, the cost was very reasonable, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We will return whenever possible.

bad cleaning of the room, dirty sheets, the floors are never're clean, the bathroom was not cleaned every day, the blankets were not enough. continuous noise during the night, the hotel staff was not efficient, the restaurants are awful, awful food and service, the hotel pool in a state of neglect

Far away - and perfect!

It all depends on what you want to do! If you are interested i shopping, or sightseeing, or city tour, this is not the place for you. It is some 15-30 minutes outside of Chiang Mai and there is not much to do around. BUT, if you are interested in solitude, a big tropical garden, quietness and relaxation: This is the place! And the evening restaurant served absolutely delicious food! The rooms were OK, not the best but comfortable enough. I have stayed at many hotels all over the World, but i have never, ever stayed at a hotel with such a park as this one.

My family stayed at the Horizon

My family stayed at the Horizon Resort during the Songkran holiday. We had a wonderful time. Our kids enjoyed the zoo, swimming in the pool, getting to ride the bicycles and the paddle boats. Also the breakfast was wonderful every morning. It is a wonderful for a family vacation. The staff is very friendly & helpful. I highly recommend it if you are coming to Chiang Mai for a getaway!

Great resort with lots of things to do.
Unfortunately we where there at low season and not much was open inside for eating or drinking.
Nice botanic garden with animals and playground for kids.
Ballon adventure Thailand have their office and launch place within the resort.
